Very cool, Randy! Have you had some drifting issues lately? Our got progressively worse over the last couple months but this was really extreme. I’ve never seen her turn left though so that was odd but the calibration definitely worked.
Heck yea, man! I never would’ve thought of this without WayNorth Drones mentioning it. He totally fixed Rose. Lol. I’m sure it would help fix other issues too so it’ll be my go to calibration.
Oh that’s cool, Chris! I guess it’s pretty common but I’ve not had this happen with Jack before. Just Rose. She must’ve wanted some extra attention. Lol. I never would’ve thought of this as a fix but I guess they have these calibrations for a reason. It’s almost like they did it on purpose. Lol
Awesome video. Thank you! I just got into the habit of running a cal on the imu whenever there a software download. I do that and the gimbal . So it's related to installing an update? My 2 se suddenly drifted to the right. Tried this calibration, then it drifting in kind of a circular motion. Will try in daylight again later. There is a update downloading on the backgeound, hope that is the issue. Didnt change anything, aside from adding few little stickers, shark eyes and mouth. Bit worried, but will try again in the morning
Oh dang. I don’t know if it’s related to an update but it’s very possible. Then again it may just be something the Mini 2 and SE drones are doing because of age? That’s probably not the case. Lol. Definitely keep us in the loop, buddy.
@WeretheRoberts will try in a moment. Its only few months old. The app warned that hoovering was unstable due weak gps. And it was at night. Will try in a moment when the weather cleared up a bit
@WeretheRoberts pheew, in my case it was the weak gps, satelite causing instable hoovering, drifting. The issue reduced, vanished when the number of satelites increased. Now that's solved, my BP is also good again.
The issue might be compass interferance. As you took off near the truck the compass faces the wrong direction and that can cause it to turn on its own. You can see at 9:12 as soon as going away from the truck the drone icon resets rotation and rotates right, you could have a flyaway if you dont calibrate the compass
Oh you could be right. I think it’s probably a combination of a few things like the compass, imu, maybe gimbal and user issues too. Lol. I never noticed that icon resetting before. That’s a good point, brother. All I know is the problem has persisted lately. It’ll go away for a few flights after I do an imu calibration but it always returns. Let’s just hope the fly away doesn’t happen. Thanks so much for watching and for the advice, Alex. Sorry it took so long for me to reply. It’s been one of those weekends. Haha. God bless!

I really wasn't expecting that to help, but then again I really don't know much about the IMU calibration stuff. I guess it's more important than I thought, eh? lol

@@WeretheRoberts I can take some of the blame for flying in an area loaded with obstacles with little experience, definitely made me a more cautious pilot lol. Took the drone out to an open field after the IMU calibration at home, I must have done it wrong because I had to do it again out in the field before it was working correctly. It was difficult to know if I had it on its side correctly as the mini 3 pro doesnt sit flat on the sides very well. Took it to a few different sites and had no issues so far though, I will definitely be checking that calibration before flights. Another interesting test. Guess I have been lucky, have not had that issue with Pete. That is the unofficial name of my Mini 2. Don’t know if it will stick. Keep up the great videos , God Bless.
Lol we were lucky too until that fateful day I saw Rose turning. I love the name Pete by the way. That’s the name of our elephant phone controller attachment bracket we use. Hahaha.
Hey buddy it's great to see you again. We are still in Yuma for the winter. And I am busy doing the never-ending maintenance on our RV. I'm glad you did this video, one more thing I need to do before my next flight. We will head to Washington State at the end of April. I haven't flown all winter so will be glad to get up there to fly above the rainforest and Puget Sound. Catch y'all later pal. 😃😃❤️❤️ Sue says "Hi" to you and yours.
Mine drifted and crashed into a building. It wasn’t strong winds. I tried to correct it at first and then it seemed to stop, turned it towards me and started drifting in the same direction and I couldn’t correct, and it went right inti a building. Outside of warranty period. Debating whether to buy a new one.
Dang that sucks!!! I’ve been fortunate with being able to control the drone while it drifts. It seems like I have to do the IMU calibration every few flights for some reason on both mini 2 drones we have. Sorry to hear about your crash. We’ve upgraded to the Mini 4 pro and have been doing some comparisons between the 2 and the 4. The Mini 2 is still my favorite drone but I gotta admit the 4 is really working on me. Lol.
Just found the channel recently. Curious about the Cell phone mount extender that you use on the controller. Ive done some searching but I cant seem to find the exact one you have. Awesome! I noticed it a few months ago but this was the worst it ever drifted and it never went left like this before. Very weird but I’m glad it’s fixed. Lol. Eventually she would just fly in a big circle. Hahaha
Good info. I had that happen to me the last time I flew. Didn't occur to me to calibrate the IMU, but it makes perfect sense. I don't think you'll disprove this one in a future video. Haha.
Hahaha. Give me time and I’ll disprove everything I do one way or another. Lol. Let me know if it helps, man. I bet if I did this to Jack, he’d fly in circles all on his own.
Sweet! I have this problem with both of our Mini 2 drones now pretty often. But as soon as I do the IMU calibration it flies straight. Sometimes I have to do it every first flight of the day but most times it’ll stay straight for a couple weeks or so. Im not sure why it keeps getting out of calibration but it’s a simple fix and it seems to work great. Let us know if it works for you!!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. That was cool. God bless! Kevin.
Hey! Thanks for watching and commenting, buddy. The up and down is way different than the drift I usually have. Mine is usually just slightly to the side with the Mini 2. The up and and could have to do with maybe a dirty optic flow sensor on the bottom. I’m not sure but that could just need cleaned off. Wouldn’t it be funny if that was the fix? lol. Nice and cheap. But I wouldn’t get my hopes up. My suggestions are usually wrong. Hahaha. Definitely let me know if it helps though. That would be interesting. God bless and thanks again for watching! Kevin
@@WeretheRoberts funny enough pal,,about 2 months ago,,I had it out flying and I had a problem with my phone,,my phone froze up in the middle of a flight and some reason my drone went crazy and landed about half a mile away way in a corn field and it took me hours to find it,,,I’m just wondering if that’s the problem what you said about the sensor underneath because of the damp field it was on till 2am in the morning,,,probably won’t have it out now for couple of days but I will definitely check this and clean it,,,don’t think I’ve ever cleaned them sensors buddy so thanks for that,,I will get back to you 👍👍👍

@@WeretheRoberts yeah, mine still covered but I still don’t want to have to send it in for anything never know how long that will take. And I might even have separation anxiety if I had to do that.
I have a mavic 2 and 3 times in the past year (including this morning) the drone takes off, hovers at 4ft, then lifts up to about 20 ft on its own then starts wildly drifting? Any thoughts? Can’t find anything online
Oh wow I have no idea or suggestions other than maybe contacting DJI. Maybe they could help you fix it without sending it off. It almost seems like an issue with the bottom sensors maybe. It could be they’re just dirty and need cleaned? Definitely let us know if you get this sorted out. I’d be interested to know what’s up
Thanks for watching, buddy! No idea how often it needs done but this was the first time I calibrated Rose. I’ve done Jack before but that was just for a video. Lol. I’ll do it more often though nkw that I know it actually has a function. Haha
@@WeretheRoberts Ha, exactly - now that I know I can do it! Other one I wonder about is how often to change propellers....don't want that to be "the time before they failed". 🤔
Well, I’ve had these drones for over 2 years now and haven’t had to change blades yet. I check them before each flight for cracks but more importantly I check the screws each time and make sure they’re still tight. If you do change props, make sure to use the new screws that came with the props because they have fresh lock tight on them. Or I guess you could just add some lock tight to the old screws and reuse them. Either way, the blue lock tight is gonna save you some headache and maybe heart ache. Haha
Mine did that but it would slowly rotate left when hovering. I recalibrated the imu it fixed that. But now almost every time I turn on my controller on it beeps and says to recalibrate the controller
Wow I’ve not seen it rotate when hovering at all but the last few flights I’ve done I’ve seen them rotate in flight pretty drastic. I’ve also heard the controller beeping like it needs recalibrated, too but it corrects itself pretty fast. How do you recalibrate the controller anyway? Lol.
That’s a great question, Jerry. I don’t have any experience with Holy Stone except for that one $40 drone I had that I crashed repeatedly. Lol. I’d say as long as the drone lets you do the calibration, it can’t hurt, eh?
*Is Jack in "Timeout"? Ok, my list of causes for your dilemma: 1) Get your finger off the Yaw and drink less coffee 2) The drone wasn't fully acclimated (haha) 3) Ask advice of a knowledgeable drone pilot (Waynorth Drones. I know him. Too cold where he lives).*
Hahaha. Jack isn’t in time out anymore. He stole my coffee so he needed some alone time. I’m always asking advice from better pilots and sometimes they give me a good answer like WayNorth drones did. Lol. I just wish I knew what I was doing.
Hey again, Edward! I’ve not had to do a stick calibration but I know it can be done. I’ve tried looking it up for the Mini 2 but haven’t found anything showing exactly how to do it. If I find out how, I’ll definitely pass it along.
Thanks man! We’ve had this issue for a while and we think we actually figured out why. We just released a new video today but the fix isn’t in that one. Lol.
Awesome!!! Hi back, Sue! I bet you're excited to get back to WA, guys. Your drone feels neglected... hahaha
Any help would be much appreciated! I have a Samsung Note and I have to remove my otterbox to get it to fit on the controller mount.
Awesome!! Welcome to the channel, brother. It’s always cool to have people watch along as we screw stuff up lol. Here’s a link on Amazon for the bracket I have. It’s definitely worth the money and it should give you enough clearance to not have to remove your case in the future. Love that little thing. Lol. Thanks for watching and again welcome. God bless!!!

@We're the Roberts that, mine's coming.
I never had mine to drift like that but I know what to do now if it does. Thanks.
I have this issue I will try it out
God bless! Kevin.
Hi pal,,mine drifts all over the place,,mainly up and down usually,,very rare it keeps very still in hover,,what’s your thoughts on this pal
Kevin
@@WeretheRoberts funny enough pal,,about 2 months ago,,I had it out flying and I had a problem with my phone,,my phone froze up in the middle of a flight and some reason my drone went crazy and landed about half a mile away way in a corn field and it took me hours to find it,,,I’m just wondering if that’s the problem what you said about the sensor underneath because of the damp field it was on till 2am in the morning,,,probably won’t have it out now for couple of days but I will definitely check this and clean it,,,don’t think I’ve ever cleaned them sensors buddy so thanks for that,,I will get back to you 👍👍👍
lol that’s a horrible story but it brings back memories of an old EXO experience I had. It’s cool that you were able to find it in the middle of a corn field. That had to be seriously a needle in a haystack, eh?
@@WeretheRoberts haha yes it definitely was buddy,,it took me hours and I couldn’t feel my legs haha
What are you using to secure your phone to the controller? Great video.
Very cool! Thanks for the comment, buddy. Here’s a link to the bracket we use for the phone. It really is a cool accessory and helps with glare. Also it keeps me from having to take the phone out of the case to get it to fit on the controller. Anyway, let me know how you like it if you order one.

Might try to calibrate the RC controller also, might help also.
That’s a good idea. I may look into that if the problem comes back. I’ve been told by a couple people on here the problem will persist and I may need to return her to DJI for repair or replacement in the future. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. She’s not covered anymore. Haha.
@@WeretheRoberts yeah, mine still covered but I still don’t want to have to send it in for anything never know how long that will take. And I might even have separation anxiety if I had to do that.
Haha. Separation anxiety. I think drones have anti separation anxiety. They want me to leave them alone in their case. Haha
I’d be interested to know what’s up
@@WeretheRoberts I was extremely lucky, only the propellers were damaged. I just finished recalibrating the compass and imu and everything else ok.
Oh good deal. :)
That is pretty sweet. I wonder how often the IMU needs to be re-calibrated?
Lol.
It's in the settings either under safety or control down close to the bottom
@@BeamsOutdoorsok cool. I’ll check that out.
Just woundering if thatwould work on a 720 E holy stone
That’s a great question, Jerry. I don’t have any experience with Holy Stone except for that one $40 drone I had that I crashed repeatedly. Lol. I’d say as long as the drone lets you do the calibration, it can’t hurt, eh?
Many thanks THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY
@@WeretheRoberts 🤣 I believe I gave you links to a free Mini 2 course a while back. Did you not look at that?
@@DavidLorenzoFlorida hahaha. I was telling Nobbygreen earlier I have a retention problem. Lol
Have you ever flyed your drone out 1km then turned off your controler and see if it returns home?
Lol I’ve not gone out that far but we did go out I think 500 feet and did that. It worked like it was supposed to but man, it was nerve racking.
I'm new but can you do a sick cal
Stick he meant
Hey again, Edward! I’ve not had to do a stick calibration but I know it can be done. I’ve tried looking it up for the Mini 2 but haven’t found anything showing exactly how to do it. If I find out how, I’ll definitely pass it along.
Why didn’t you put the Tokyo drift song In the background
Hahaha. That’s a good idea. Wonder if Music Bed covers that song. Lol
just to let you no your coming through 1 headphone one sides louder than the other
Thanks man! We’ve had this issue for a while and we think we actually figured out why. We just released a new video today but the fix isn’t in that one. Lol. Next Monday though we have a new one coming out and hopefully it’s fixed. We didn’t mention the fix in the video coming up but if you get a chance to watch it and let us know if it’s actually working right that would be awesome! Thanks again, buddy. God bless.
I dont have this kind of drone
Thanks for watching even though you don’t have this drone. Are you looking to get one though?
All the videos use this drone
We have a couple Mini 2 drones we use and we also use a Mini 4 pro. Now that thing is awesome!!!
It's not a she. That's so annoying.
Lol. Thanks for watching. Hope you at least enjoyed the video. Have a great week and God bless! Kevin
the way you call your drone "she and her and ROSE???" is insufferable...
Hahaha. What should I call her then?
