  • A view of the entire drive from Anchorage to Wasilla in Alaska. I speeded up the footage 4 times to condense the video time. The only road is the Glenn Highway/Highway 1. This is the road you would take if you were headed to Denali, Fairbanks, Canada, etc.

Personally I would pick Palmer over Wasilla. Palmer had a farming community feel/history that I like. Take care.

Beautiful, do you call this a freeway or simply a highway? Thanks 👍🏻

John, is there a bicycle path along the road entirely from Anchorage to Wasilla?
    Thank you, enjoyed the video!

Hello, no the path doesn't go all the way from Anchorage to Wasilla. It does go north of town to Eagle River. The path is on the north side of the Glenn Highway. You can connect to another bike path on the south side of the Glenn Highway at Eagle River and that continues to run north for a few miles. The Glenn Highway is two lanes in each direction from there with wide shoulders. You can stay far enough away from traffic by riding on the shoulders. Are you planning a long bike ride?

Alaska John No, but my wife and 3 daughters and I are completely in love with Alaska after visiting my Aunt, Uncle and cousins this year. They live in Wasilla.
We are planning on moving up to Alaska early next summer!!
I enjoy bike rides, though I’ve never rode longer than probably 15 miles at once, so far.
      Thanks for the info!

Where are you moving from if I may ask? It's about 45 minutes when the road is not covered in snow/ice/etc. and not rush hour time. Maybe a little less if you have go a little faster. If you come from the south side of Anchorage you can add a little move time.

I have made this drive many times! I love Anchorage. Wasilla is nice too. It's NOT the mistake by the lake, as some people have called it!

Haven't had summer yet in Anchorage. 2 to 3 days above 70 degrees but that is it. Maybe just Spring this year and no summer weather.

How long is the winter? Where I live it is October through April. And it's still quite cold in May. June-July and August (September ain't too bad, but that's when rain season starts) is summer. And it's a very nice, beautiful temperate summer.
Temperatures up to 30 celsius (86 farenheit). In the winter it can go down to -25/30 degrees celsius (-13/-22 F) at its absolute lowest. So I guess the weather isn't too bad, but it's still not exactly pleasant for most people. For me it's fine, I like the snow and the cold.
I live up in Nordland in Norway. Which is actually a higher latitude than Anchorage.

I'm living in Alaska since 1994. You're wrong, Alaska John; our summer is about 4 months.
By the way, over 75 degrees is a scorcher for us, Alaskans
