Clever design - I'll follow along the journey as it develops...!

It is a good proof of concept. Part of the fun of the hobby.

Like the design, very creative. Doesn't matter if it's crude as long as it works. Very nice.

There are some HO dumpers on UA-cam that seem to have had a lot of thought in their design. Not the Walthers ones but the scratchbuilt ones. I find them inspiring.

Wow, the rotary dumper sounds just like the transfer table! Neat design, bet it gets even better.

Just like on the Flintstones - same sounds. The baby carriage wheel squeak was the same as the roller coaster going up.

So cool !! Like it a lot. If inside a building it does not need to be much improved either.

That's pretty amazing what you built. Crude you say. I think it looks good and is pretty cool 😎

Those rollers are genious! I'll be honest, I've been in HO almost 30 years and only recently realized the wheels could be moved along the axle. (Had a bunch of mystery derailments with one car and found it was out of gauge.)

Excellent work. It's simple and gets the job done. You will have to record the sound effect. It'll get tiresome running back and forth when someone wants to dump a car...

Use springs for the clamping mechanism as a way to return it to the open position after dumping the hopper car.

You need C clamps with tabs and foam that holds the car in place. As you pull the train through the rotary, the foam is already against the car. You stop the train and with the tabs over the top of the car holds the car to the tracks.

Dear Joey, love the simplicity of the design, will be great to see a rendition of your design on the layout.
Same category as the stub end rail slider, I would say.

Hi Joey Nice work I'm wanting to do something similar but with rotary dumpers I've alway wondered about the unhitching side of things so I was more thinking of the traditional way and using the open bottom style with magnets or some other form of spending the bottom plates some how well done
    cheers Mark

Nice concept with the cams. I struggled with how to get clamps to work and ended up with spring-loaded arms - reliable if not prototypical - on this N scale dumper. The arms are held up when the dumper is upright and drop down to clamp the top of the car when the cylinder rotates toward the dump position. Ignore the clamps on the adjacent cars, only needed with rotary couplers. ua-cam.com/video/RQrFvwuUmrg/v-deo.html

Maybe a dumb question but, what is gator board?
I have not heard that term.

    • @tracksidescenery
      @tracksidescenery  Рік тому

Never a dumb question. Basically it's presentation board. Same material we make our Helix components out of. Gatorboard (or gator board) is a type of display board with a dense inner core made of foam and a rigid exterior made of wood-fiber veneer

Galileo, Edison, and Bell ad nothing on you Joey. And, they didn’t provide sound effects.
