I am currently working night shift. I have for almost 20 years. I love it. I go to bed around 6 am and I get up at 2pm on work days. I work Friday nights and when I get home around 4 am, I stay up and get my yard work done and my housework and laundry done, then I lay down for about 3 hours. I get up and stay up till about 4 or 5 am. I try and keep my same schedule all week with the exception of my day off on Saturdays. Then Sundays, I'm free to enjoy the day off since I did all my chores on Saturday! By the way, I will be 60 in July. I have no health issues at all that you mentioned. Good luck to you and I wish you success in your life! :)
There are many studies that show the negative health impact of night shift , would not suggest anyone to do night shift , it will take a toll on your physical and mental health
I'm about to start graveyard shifts in retail and wasn't sure how I am going to work my sleep schedule....I've also heard a fan for white noise, dark sunglasses for sunlight while you are driving, black out curtains, and ear plugs. I really like your strategy of not changing your sleep schedule too much. Thanks for the tips!
I worked night shift for a year or two at Walgreens, the second day of nights was brutal where I felt terrible, but then my body got into it. I think I didn't take advantage of the weeks off as much as I could have. Probably would have gone on a bunch of cruises looking back.
Yeah I try to keep a routine and in the next 12 months I'll be traveling a lot more now that I am more financially stable. I am not financially free / independent by any means but much better than when I first graduated. Trying to fit in the travels before starting a family.
My APPE student got tickets to Columbia (the country) for like $300 so if you're flexible with where you go, I believe there are some incredible deals. Look forward to living vicariously through your adventures
Another tip I would give as an overnight pharmacist is, do not eat when you get home. Have your dinner around 4-5am while at work and keep it high in protein and low in carbs.
Do you only work afternoon/evening shifts at your part time job/s then since you’re asleep from 4AM-11AM on your week off? I work overnights too. My sleep routine is 10AM-6PM on my days on, and 10PM to 6AM on my days off. How I do the switch is on my last morning of the rotation, I go to sleep at 10AM, wake up around 3PM, then go back to sleep again at 10PM that night until I wake up the following morning at 6AM. Sometimes it’s hard to stay asleep at night though, so I would binge watch on Netflix in bed until 6AM. I think I’ll try your routine; it sounds healthier. 👍🏼
I'm finding these comments very interesting. I'm of the exact opposite and stuggle to work a day shift. I can work the entire day and never wake up but i can work all night no problem, Wide awake. Afternoon and Midnight are my favorite shifts. Hardest part for me is trying to function in a dayshift society. If i could do my shopping and go to the bank at 3am i would. Being a night owl has messed me up for a very long time and has caused alot of challenges in my life. Night shift for some people is great
I started working night shift about 4 years ago, and I go to bed about 7 am and wake up around 3:15 or 3:30 I do this every day and I can fall sleep in about time as I go to bed. Room dark curtains relatively quiet. But the problem. I have an appointment let's 11:00 I push my self to stay awake, however I don't sleep passed the wake up time 3:15. This is so I can maintain my sleep schedule.
Being doing night for a few years i let it go way to long if u work nights make it short term i start 9 pm to 6am gym after work is the only way it gets done so i get home like 9am go to bed at 11am but won't fully go to slee till 3 pm that my body gives up not easy shift .....ill say make it short term
I'm about to start working night shift from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. part-time at a navy base. This is my first overnight job so I'm trying to learn some things. It's not bad but might messed me up for a little bit
I work only nights from Monday to Friday 10pm to 6am been doing this for almost 2 years now and i go sleep around 7am and getting up at 2pm but i am always tired and feeling weak all the time. It's like my body don't want me to do this.
I'm the same but it's the opposite for me when i work day shits. I'm tired from 6-2am never wake up then go home and fall asleep at 3pm. Night shifts are best for me. I think it's hereditary
This is the big secret to surviving night work: Keep the same schedule (and dont eat ater 23.00 when at work) Keep schedule even Off work. Sort off, the doctor explains it were well.

4-5 hours of sleep, that's like everyday for a couple of months.. and I hate it .. I am also working on night shift

Been doing night shift for 9 years. I'm now 32 and having a hard time managing blood pressure. Borderline hypertension with spikes.
Why not stop working nights’ Your body is already telling you to stop

I enjoyed working overnights. The problem for me was I felt tired. Like jet lag tired.
I have the same affect with the fatigue, although I feel more mellow yet somewhat slower with brain power. It’s a trade off.
It would be great if you could do a what I eat in a day video!

Yeah earliest shifts I take are 12PM shifts. But they range from 12pm, 230PM, 4pm, 9pm or 10PM,

shelly yastagirl amazing and I can relate to that. Working night shifts our body seems to be acting against us. You can’t control it anymore.
Did it for a year and a half. Never again
