this video was extremely helpful but i have a few questions. i have an external mic plugged into my Presonus audio box and the audio box is connected to my computer through USB. but i would like to know first if the "New Instrument" applies to microphones, and if they do, how do i make studio one record with my external mic instead of the mic built into my computer?

@creativityhails Sounds like buffer size issues. Check the buffer size of your audio interface in your audio setup in S1.
I want to set up a Focusrite MKII and Focusrite 18i20 (lomked) and I need hardware control surface that will work the (16) inputs (8 from MKII and 8 from i18i20)... Do you have any suggestions for functionality as well as price? Maybe a Behringer vs. a Mackie for example due to price (in theory, since I don't even think a Behringer CMU would link together to do 16. only 8). A compatibility list and/or a presales techie to chat with would be great.
Move the screen? Not sure how you mean, but S1's screen setup can be mostly tuned to your liking.

I am.loving my akai midimix, bit I cannot get the recarm button to work, so I can only use the midimix live as such, but cannot record the effects I have programmed to it, delays, reverbs ect.

Well, I just used a usb first act mic to test recording. The program recognized my asio driver that I think I installed when I tried to record in FL studio 10, or in your video I think you said it comes with it in there. I'm using the free version before I go out and buy the artist version. I see you can't drag and drop audio in the program which sucks haha. I also have a samson co1u studio condensor mic, but that shouldn't matter.
Hi Brian, I have a Roland-MV8800 and I followed ur step by step guide. U use a MC groovebox from Roland.
But in my case it won't work propperly Whjen I select for example Tr.01 (midi) I normally should get An orange signal.

Cool! Sadly artist can't use third party plugins, unless you're using one included with s1 artist. I think it comes with a version of EZ -- in that case, just make sure it's installed.

What should be my settings for Yamaha MOX6. I wish to use it as a MIDI KB as well as record its own sounds. It is the latter part that I am stuck with.

Hi, just starting with studio one and I have a Korg D3200 Digital Recording Studio that I would like to connect and use with the DAW. do I need to buy a Midi to USB cable to get it to communicate with my computer? Once that is done can I upload live instrument tracks from my Korg straight into Studio One?
I have a M audio Keyrig49. Midi IN is working but midi OUT don't. So I can install the keyboard and is working, but not the instrument with the midi send (I can choose only Microsoft synth) can somebody help me? Because of this I can not use the control link

Brian, I have a Presonus Audiobox 44vsl and am trying to load Superior Drummer in Studio One but so far have been using Toon Track Solo. I was told I could run SP from Ezdrummer as well but havent figured it out. Im just trying to play my Roland Td-6v e-drums with new sounds (samples?) from all that software, so far all is running but im delayed a bit. When I strike my pads the time is delayed that I hear the sound from my amp. Do you have any ideas? Or work with that software as well at Obedia?

I have done absolutely everything that support has shown and all you have shown (exluding my last request) and still have gotten nowhere! Im using a presonus audiobox, all my settings are identical to what you have shown but nothing ever comes through my e-drums even tho it seems connected. any ideas? ps i like your videos, you are a natural speaker which helps

Hey man, wondering if you could help me here, had a look down through the comments to see if anyone was having the same problem as me but cant see any, basically I want to hook my behringer xenyx 1204usb mixer to work with studio one, but when i go to 'add external device' nothing comes up in the 'receive from' our 'send to' boxes. probably something really stupid I'm doing, but i have all the drivers installed and studio one seems to recognise my xenyx. any thoughts? thank you...
i am a complete noob at this. i went and bought a at2020, the audiobox w/ studio one. now, mind you, i'm pretty sharp with these electric computer thingamabobers [seriously, i program and design websites] but for the life of me, I can't get the mic to "work" or will it only record? will it not also work as a mic?
It would depend on how the mic is supposed to be setup in a DAW, I would think that it should show up as an ASIO device.
Hi, Im using Studio One w a Firebox as my interface. I'd like to get my Zoom R16 to function as my control surface (something I was able to do fairly easy w Sonar). I can't seem to get it to work correctly however. I've got Studio One recognizing the R16 and have it set up under New Control Surface, but that's as far as it goes. None of the buttons/faders are working and MIDI learn isn't giving me many options. Have you or anyone else reading this dealt w this situation? have suggestions?
My studio one is not picking up signal from the persons mixing device. I have just changed laptops and I can't set it up properly. There is no issue with any of the cables. Do you have any idea as to why the program won't be recognising it?
Does anyone know how to use an ewi4000 with studio one? I add it as external hardware but it is not showing up in devices thru midi :(
Hey Brian. Hope you still respond here. I've been fighting this for almost 2 years now. Almost impossible to find help which is sad, so was glad to find this. I hope. I just can't get my studio one to record, until of late. Now I can some, but there is such slap back/ echo so bad, unless volume is @ 1, it's worthless. Now I watched this video, and it would be helpful but for one thing. In the Receive from: I have 0 options. in the Send to: I only have Microsoft junk, like Midi mapper (emulated), GS Wavetable synth (emulated), and Synth. What I have is this: Alesis multimix8 USB fx, Microsoft 8.1, ASIO4ALLv2, Cyber Power pc, MCI Z87-G41 pc mate MB, Intel core i7 proc., 1 Tera-HD, 32gb Ram ddr3, Nvidia G-force GTX 760, Realtek HD Audio Card, all Liquid cooled. I also will have a full range KB and a couple Guitars I want to play thru the Alesis mixer. I run the cord from mixer to computer USB 3.0 port as usual, also, I have a main cord going from Main out: to my Roland jc 55 amp. I have reg. mic cord into trac 1 atm with a Shure Mic, an instrument cord into #2 for KB atm. I do have headphones I can use, and can also set up amp as monitor. Everything is close, so cord distance isn't an issue. Hope this is enough info for maybe a simple answer lol.
I have the MC-909 Groovebox by Roland and I've been trying to get it to talk to Studio One 2 with no luck. I'd like to know whether you have any documentation for setting it up,. hardware\software properly? I watched this video, but I don't have the 909 running into my computer, but rather the Audiobox and the only option I get there when setting up the midi portion is Midi IN\Out. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.
I got it configured, but the configuration doesn't stay in the version of Studio One I'm using. I'm using Studio One Artist 2. I think the reason it doesn't save the config (Keyboard & Device) is because they want you to buy the better version (duh.....) I also tried to set up my Maschine and realized the version I have doesn't allow VST's....So, it looks like I have a version issue. Thanks for the help. I did get something out of this video and that was how to set up the 909 as an external device\keyboard. I'll have to pony up for the better version at some point.
Hello there! I have a Novation Xio 49 MIDI Keyboard. I tried my best to set it up with Studio One but it was of no use. I am unable to play with the keyboard. I use a USB connector connected to the USB slot in the computer with a firewall pin at the other end connected to the Keyboard. Could you please help me set up and help me connect and use my keyboard with Studio One. There is no signal inside Studio One when I trigger a key (Note).
Not sure if the mixer has drivers, but if it does, install them.
I don't think the editor works in S1, but if it does, it'll show up as a VST insert.
You could send the output of the mixer back into s1, and make sure you're not monitoring the recording back into s1, then play out, thru the mixer, record in s1 to record the mixdown track.
@MrJobesy You have a lot of hardware, I can't troubleshoot that thru youtube comments. the best I can tell you is to follow the manuals for your devices and use the methods I show you here, or you can call me for some one on one training.

Im not sure which version I have of studio one I have... For some reason I think maybe something went wrong with my installation. i cannot get Studio one to be a midi Slave. So far in every single program I have ever used.. has an option to set it to be slave. This is driving me crazy trying to find the button.. Is this normal?

I seem to be at a loss so I'm asking you (and everyone else I can find) I've got my midi Keyboard controller working with studio one 3 artist...to a point. However, I have a snag that is driving me nuts.
I don't do a lot of complicated midi stuff, but I do use the keyboard quite extensively for instrumentation. (bass, strings, electric guitar etc.) No problems using Presence, Mai Tai and the other synths included in S1 Artist... but I cannot get the pitch bend wheel to work or any of the command buttons (play, record, stop, rewind etc.) I'm sure you realize how important it is if you're playing an electric guitar lead, for example to be able to bend a note.
I have another DAW that I've been working with for well over a year. Not as good as S1 but it seems to automatically recognize everything and I have no problems with that DAW's Midi Learn Features.
But I cannot get the "Midi Learn" function on S1 to work at all. I've followed the instructions in the manuals, videos from both Presonus and other Studio One Forums over and over, but nothing happens when I turn knobs, push the pitch bend wheel or push any of the command buttons.
Have I missed an important part of the set up sequence somewhere?
Is Midi Learn a song by song procedure?
I can work around it using my other DAW, but I really like certain sound palettes in S1 (especially the "Strato" instrument.. closest to a real guitar I've heard so far without buying expensive guitar sequencer software)
Can you point me to a video, or is there a specific page in the manual I missed somewhere for getting midi learn to learn my keyboard controller? Like I said, I can play the keys just fine and record and so on and manipulate and edit the sounds to my heart's content, but cannot get S1 to talk to my keyboard regarding any of the other features.
If this helps, I have an older model M-Audio Oxygen 25. (the older one, not the one with faders) Bought it directly from it's previous owner so no registration which means I can't get any tech support from M-Audio. Tried to get hold of them but they ain't responding.

Does Studio One Prime and Artist support the use of external hardware effects? I'm turning away from Cubase because you need their Pro version to add external gear. Is this the same with Studio One?
What option should I choose - instrument or control surface?
I believe it does, but you'd want to check their specs on their website to be sure that the Artist version does that.
If you want to add external gear, it depends on what the gear is, hence the different hardware choices.

Hi Brian! I was able to successfully set up the software with my MIDI instrument. But today when I trigger the notes, a hiss or a buzz noise is heard along with the sound of the selected instrument. It is jarring and disturbing and it happens with all the sounds including the drum kits. Could you please help me solve this problem. I need to get rid of that disturbing buzz (hiss) noise. Help me out please.

+Kayode Martin You can't record the sounds - MIDI is not audio. You'll have to record the sounds from your board.
Those Behringers can be tricky - make sure all the drivers are installed, and that you have it wired up properly.

Hi, i would like to run midi from my Roland TD20's directly to the back of my RM16AI. Would that work the same or do I need to use an interface to convert to USB and run into the Mac?Thx in advance

Studio one 3 is not allowing me to do placement.Drag and drop not working....
The keyboard won't show up; only the MIDI port for the audio interface - therefore, set the in/out ports for the audio interface's MIDI ports, and you should be good.

What i cant figure out is how to use effects on my vocals with a keyboard!?!?!? i have a s49 komplete and it has the finger a great effects program but i cant the sound to go from one stem to another if that makes sense?
+Cg Hook I can't really say, sounds like you want to do a vocoder. You'd need a vocoder plugin for that.
Or maybe 2 Korg Kontrol 2's link together some how.. and work with the MKII feeding the Focusrite 18i20 8 channels, then the other 8 channels do give me a 16 channel hands on feel (before I go to full mouse click stage w/ Presonus Studio One Pro...

Hey it would be awesome if some one could help me with a problem I have. I installed the drivers and Studio One reconises the audio box, but when I use the phantom button on the audiobox to record into the mic, an error message comes up saying, "The audio box could not be initialized. Please check your hardware config and try again". Then studio one no longer reconises the audio box device and comes up with another error message when I try again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like a reinstall of S1 might be necessary.
check your I/O settings in studio one.

Shouldn't need a trigger, but you might want to make sure that the roland is receiving MIDI.
I cannot add Native Instruments Maschine and a simple Casio keyboard to work together,, Helpppp

I'm seriously considering switching to studio one on a mac. I'm a PC guy, and have an older version of Cubase. I'm worried about a few things. 1. can I import and use the drums and other sounds that I've accumulated over the years. 2. am I able to play my music in real time? if I can't do that, I'm not sure I'm interested. 3. can u add plug-ins such as auto- tunes and VSTS?
Macs aren't better at anything than PCs are.
You can import things made in other apps into studio one, yes, and you can use third party VSTs, yes, as long as you have a version of Studio One that supports it.

I connected my keyboard to my audio device through a midi cable and when i go to "configure external devices", and try to add it (new keyboard), it doesnt recognize my keyboard. What might be wrong?

You do need a midi cable, if it doesn't have USB.
