I really like how you’ve matched the volumes as closely as you could between the bypass and enable modes of the plugins. So often, people doing these types of reviews don’t take the time to match these levels, and the volume is noticeably louder when they turn the plugins on to compare the sound without it; and this jump in volume can fool our ears (and brains) into thinking a plug-in sounds good (or great) when it might actually not, and only being louder. Nice job! 🙏
I use the api 2500 bus compressor,, Manley massive passive eq and Ampex 102 on my main bus in a similar way. The options are many and UA has so many amazing plugins to choose from.
@@jimhardiman3836 I never really used a pultec until I used the uad one and I am in love 😍. Since then I've compared uad's pultec against the nobleq, waves puigtech, audio acustica's purple and today I'm going to trial it against the rule tec but so far uad has beat them all. Great plugin😍
Man, when he said, just kiss it, he wasn't kidding! Listening with speakers on my iPhone 13 without headphones I really couldn't hear hardly any difference at all 🤷🏼♂️
Instead of a high and low boost (which I would leave for mastering) I often do a broad midrange cut. Which kind of gives the effect of putting the bass and treble more forward but without the phase shift on the low end. I'm also using the SSL Buss Compressor plug in, which is remarkably good IMHO. Another thing I've found is that what sounds fuller on your magic wideband Danish oiled teak and elm system, sounds kind of muffled on a car stereo or Bose system. Too much of that 2nd and 3rd harmonic can build up and make things sound cheap.
I stay away from 2-MIX EQ altogether bc I know Mastering will surely EQ it and they'll be doing it in an acoustic environment with monitors superior/better tuned than my production space no matter how much effort I put in that regard. Also, ear fatigue and recency bias can come into play. Dynamics, texture and glue are characteristics that I want to "sign" my mixes with. I'm cool with enhancing those on the 2MIX because it doesn't matter if my mix position is 1ft off center or if I'm getting refections off the desk etc- I'll still hear pretty well exactly what the compressor is doing or the saturation is going with confidence. With EQ I'm less confident only because I know a 1ft different in the position of my head or the way my ears happen to be adapted at that time of the day or what volume I'm listening at all can drastically affect frequency curve adjustments I would make. Maybe it would be great (which I do a reference mix with EQ for the client, pre -mastering) maybe not. But I tend to leave that up to the fresh ears, in the better acoustic environment. Now, if you don't know the mastering engineer or what their work sounds like, then I might give a touch of my own EQ. Rarely though. And yes cuts only. 👍🏼 Cheers
What’s the big difference between the diff tape size 1/2 1/4 ect and which is usually preferred for the master bus ? Also what are the Calibration numbers used for +6 +9 ect . Thanks in advance for your great videos and tips .
Generally you'll want 1/2" for printing mixes. The wider tape width gives you more oxide to store the magnetism, hence more goodness. Having said that, sometimes 1/4" is cool for a different vibe. The Cal switch determines determines the amount of fluxivity that is "pushed" onto the tape. Higher cal setting means hitting the tape harder at the the same given VU meter level. Which will result in more tape saturation.Hope this helps.
I have a basic question: I purchased Universal Audio Twin, it came with some plugins, when I go to my account I see the listed plug-ins . but when I'm using one of my DAWS and go to effects, I choose Universal Audio, it shows a ton of them 90% of them when I choose are demos! Is there a way that you can only see what is authorized?
Where is the best place to put Ampex in your mastering chain? First, in the middle, or last before the limiter? I would love it if someone could answer this for me thanks in advance.
it depends, it might be cool to experiment and put it first. So your tape doesn't react to the low end added by an eq for example, do what feels good !
Hi sir, uad apollo twin x adapter does not have three pins, only two, All the wires whether mic, Headphones or monitors is connected to twin x all have electric current, In our studio earthing cable or ground wire is properly connected, But apollo has only two pins in its adapter, I'm getting electric shocks by apollo, please solve the problem, Thanks
Sounds like you have bad electric wiring. The ground pin on 3 prong power is safety only. A path for current instead of a human body. Your neutral conductor should be providing the ground reference for the hot wire. If these are both wired correct you should not get shocks. I'd get an outlet tester at a hardware store and confirm you have correct wiring. (when I had tube amps this was my endless struggle)

Hmm, not sure that's true. Mixbus compression is the mixer's domain for sure! MEs want the mixers best mix, whatever it takes. Now if we're talking about peak/brickwall limiters, then yes!!! MEs do NOT want that for sure.

Live Track Mode. See here for a good demo. ua-cam.com/video/R_qkBqgYfxs/v-deo.html

You should make the GUI from 100 to 75 or so...

the manley example is definetly not level matched, I feel offended by them these companies thinking that we are stupid or what ?
Compression before eq? Interesting
Thought so too but maybe that 8k bump upstream from his compression was featuring harshness or sybillance from all the brighter elements.
