- The first results of NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) indicate that the orbit of asteroid Dimorphos around asteroid Didymos was changed, altering the orbit of the binary asteroid system around the Sun.

Nice.
Cheers 🤘
I'm excited for the future implications this will bring to people wanting to understand and interact with systems / phenomena outside our own.
Fascinating 🤔
Just wondering...can the gravitational pull of the parent asteroid cause the stricken asteroid to crush into the parent? For example, if the moon got closer to earth, it would crush into us due to the earths gravitational pull.
Great acheivement indeed..however, has the mission deflected the orbit inward or outward by 30 odds minutes? I am assuming it's outward?
Explained at 4:00
@@SciNewsRo No, it doesn't explain it at that timestamp. But yes, it's outward.
Cool
She knows her shit...
Realy like dart
Rad!!!
Wouldn’t it be ironic if this test actually changed the trajectory to hit earth and ended mankind? Fate loves irony.
Impossible, the closest approach so far was 7 million km away from Earth. The Moon is 0,38 million km away.
@@SciNewsRo nothing is impossible.. we don’t know what Dimorphys and Didimos will undergo, what they may meet along their ways and how that has been changed by the little bump we gave it.. who knows.. or we might have prevented something.. who can say. Us pretending we understand or know anything is the greatest illusion..
@@thegoodthebadandtheugly579 Do you comprehend seven million kilometres?
@@SciNewsRo yeah, sure. This is potentially irrelevant depending on the mass of the bodies..

exactly what I thought...seems like not many are looking for the dart mission results!
