I was just watching Chamber again and it struck me how the "multiple Voldemorts" problem would be solved. If the diary Tom Riddle got a living body for that piece of soul, the piece of soul you call "Voldemort Prime" would simply rejoin that body. Those pieces of soul would not be repaired, as he would not go through the process of genuine remorse to repair his fractured soul, he would just be in the state of 16-year-old body with a fractured soul just like the moment he murdered Myrtle. The only thing that would have caused a conflict would be if two separate pieces of soul managed to get inside living bodies at the same time, but that never happened.

In one of the last episodes you asked how it is for people with another mother tongue than English. I am from Austria and so German is my first language. For my eleventh birthday I got the first book translated into german. So I read all the books in German except the last one (this one I only read in English). Then my English was good enough to read them. Later I reread all of the books in English. And now when I talk about them I can't remember the German words for the special words in the wizarding world, eg. snitch, bludgers, ... Some words were "translated" to German, others not. In the book that I got for my eleventh birthday Sirius' last name was translated to "Schwarz" (german for black), in the later books he was called Black without the translation. I needed a very long time to make the connection because of that. Even after the scene in the Three Broomsticks. 😅😅

Got back at this friend ten years later - i read book 5 of game of thrones while she was only watching the series 😏 so i could tell her a little bit about Jon Snow. She called it even after that 😅
I keep shouting at the screen when you guys miss something very ovbious that you do not mention. In the chamber after the basilisk is blinded but still chasing Harry, Harry puts on the sorting hat and says "help me, help me". That is when the sword appears in the hat and hits Harry in the head. Why the head trauma I do not know, this is something for the Carlin Bros to ponder. This fulfills Dumbledore's statement that "at Hogwarts help will be given to those who ask for it." I saw this as I was reading the chapters along with the pod casts. BTW, I love the pod cast you give so much insight to the books.
I think that in the wizarding world it's been known for centturies, that the rightfull place of Gryffindor's sword it's in the headmaster's office. It dissapears from there, when a true Gryffindor needs it, and returns after it's used. It explains that Dumbledore hide it there and was sure it wouldn't dissapear somewhere else, when it's time for Snape to give it to Harry. So if you are a Gryffindor and you go to Dumbledore's office, and you need the sword in brave or desperate curcumstances, you would be able to pick it up and use it.
So, I'm currently catching up on a backlog of episodes and am listening to Chapter 17 right now and had an epiphany... what if Salazar Slytherin built the Chamber of Secrets because he was secretly a maledictus and didn’t want his friends to know he was slowly changing into a basilisk? Is this some old fan theory that I've never heard before and was discarded long ago?
You guys are mixing up movie lore and book lore when it comes to Tom Riddle. In the movie Tom speaks with Dumbledore. In the books Tom speaks with professor Dippet instead. Therefore, Dumbledore isn't seeing a parallel in the conversation with Harry when he lies to Dumbledore. I'm sure Dumbledore knows Harry is lying, but there is no relation for Dumbledore to a previous conversation with Tom.
Hey, Brother! Jay, I moustache you a question: would Dumbledore know about Quirrel's time studying trolls, say, during the summer, then say Quirrel returns with no recollection of it. Would that give him cause the next year to hire Lockhart, with knowledge of his modus operandi?
Quirrel was able to get in and out of Gringotts without getting caught. That makes him an extremely talented wizard, so as far as I'm concerned, Travels with Trolls theory confirmed. Nice one, bros.
I know Fantastic Beasts doesn't make any sense, but what if Fawkes isn't Credence, or Corvus. What if it's Ariana? 'A son cruelly banished' could refer to Dumbledore being 'trapped' inside Godric's Hollow after his mother dies. 'Despair of the daughter' Ariana. 'Return great avenger with wings from the water' Fawkes could come during a time of need for Dumbledore literally out of water. I love the theory of phoenixes being past Dumbledore's who've died coming to aid the present ones, and I think Fawkes being Ariana holds more weight due to her relationship with Dumbledore.
I have a way too long thing written about this very idea that I plan to give the brothers when I see them at the live taping. are you cool if I include your notes (with credit)
The extra edits of close ups when each is talking, intense, well done to the editors!!!!! It does get a bit jarring near the end.... But eggcellently done! Most of the time, I think it's great, maybe some of the close ups for one-word responses could be wide shots with a little buffer to slow it down a little bit, speaking as someone with seizures.... Though I do understand the thought process, and it was a good idea that really added an extra level to the video.
I just started watching Through the Griffin Door yesterday. Right now I'm on The Sorting Hat, and so far the series has been awesome. I never realized how deep the books got even before the whole "accepting death" motif was introduced.
The fact o fell behind my almost 12 chapters is crushing. To catch up it will require 12 hours lmao. Love the channel and the commitment to the plot keep up the good work
Well to the importance of the car I would like to propose a theory of mine, that it is actually Dumbledore, who is making the car drive inside of the forbidden forest. He could have heard Hagrid suggesting that they should follow the spiders and waited for them there like he did with the mirror in the philosopher’s stone. He might not want to approach them if not necessary and therefore use the car. For the arrival of Harry and Ron it might be possible that Snape was send by Dumbledore to have a look out for Harry and Ron as they were not in the train / at the feast. That fits with Snapes chair being already empty, when they arrive at the great hall. It would be therefore possible that Snape made the car drive into the forbidden forest from a distance to stop Harry and Ron from doing something with it and other students from seeing it.
Something I just now considered while watching this. Why does Dumbledore not consider the prophecy fulfilled when James and Lily die? As far as the prophecy is concerned, Mouldy Voldy comes to attack the Potters, Lily dies to save Harry thereby giving him the power the dark lord knows not. Mouldy marks him as his equal with the curse and then 'dies' half a second later due to the sacrificial love and meaning one died at the hand of the other. I could be missing something but I'm pretty sure the prophecy be lookin' awfully fulfilled, especially because Dumbly doesn't figure out the horcruxes until at least Chamber of Secrets.
@@IdaSantti But Dumbledore doesn't know that, he just knows that after attacking Harry he disappeared and his forces fell and he doesn't know about the Horcruxes to assume that he's still alive
@@saltshaker1118 he didn't know about the horcruxes specifically yes, but he never believed Voldy to be dead and gone. That's why he put Harry to live with Petunia
did dobby mess with the floo powder travel? harry ends up with the malfoys right after and they incriminate themselves in that shop at that time... coincidence?
Hermione is excellent with memory charms. She removed herself from her parents' memories but left the rest. Her parents went to Australia (Sydney?). So yes, you don't have to wipe a person's entire memory.
I personally head-cannon that Dumbledore himself teaches DADA to the O.W.L and up students so that they aren’t left with an incompetent teacher for such important tests.
I LOVE the idea that lockheart stoll travels with trolls from quirrel. One of my really big issues with Quirrel is the scene at Halloween when he faints at the stress of a troll. We are very aware that trolls are his speciality and most of the teachers would know this, especially dumbledore and probably those guarding the stone. So why is he so freaked out? I know its a diversion for him, but why did he think it would work? The teachers would expect him to deal with it. So maybe lockheart had just recently stollen his memory about trolls and he forgot how to deal with them? Not sure if memory charms could have a short term dazzling effect and then a long term forgetful effect.
Dobby is necessary in this book to set up House Elfs and their rules. So when Kreacher follows RAB's orders it's understood without stopping the story for an explanation. Other house-elfs too.
Whenever it comes to Dumbledore‘s big plan, I think so much of it can be chalked up to him being such a skill the legilimens, like when he’s in Hagrid’s hut. I’m pretty sure he’s probably reading Ron and Harry’s minds, which allows him to know that they’re there and then he uses his power of deduction to figure out which corner they’re most likely in, hence why he can seemingly look at them even when they’re invisible. I would also imagine this is how he could figure out what Lucius was up to with the diary.
Well legilimency wouldn’t help Dumbledore because that requires eye contact. But he would well be able to read the room. Therefore noticing Hagrid making tea and serving cake. Many even hearing voices inside the hut. He could then deduce that it is probably Harry and Ron who are there and that they are using the cloak to hide.
Next video idea: What if Dobby never visited Harry? Without some plot reworking, it looks like Harry either gets eaten by Aragog or gets his memory is wiped by Lockhart. Of course, Harry and Ron only miss getting the info directly from Hagrid because Fudge comes. And they could maybe thwart Lockhart another way. Would it have been a great setup and payoff? Not necessarily, but if they do, maybe Ron could use his wand legitimately the whole year and he is just able to thwart Lockhart himself, similar to how he helped with the troll. Then again, the cave in doesn't happen, so there might have to be a spell they learn that triggers an explosion or something, and that 'fixes the timeline'. This spell would be the setup and payoff learned earlier, like the Wingardium spell.
I'm for a partial plan from Dumbledore. I think Dumbledore is okay with hiring Lockhart, for example, because A) anyone truly competent with the dark arts may recognize a pattern and realize the position is jinxed, and so wouldn't take the job unless they had a very good reason to, so he would be desperate to hire even a 2nd or even 3rd rate teacher. and... B) Dumbledore could use the jinx to his benefit to expose or remove people he dislikes. This would explain why he hired Lockhart or Umbridge, as a way to eliminate them without actually doing anything to them. With everything else, Dumbledore has limited information too. His entire plan, likely, is to just keep Harry alive long enough for him to die at the "proper moment." Any big plan he does have would only start to get into motion around book 4.
One thing came to my mind today when listening Deathly Hallows. Why did locket Horcrux try to murder Harry while in pool? I mean Harry is also Horcrux, so it seems strange that Horcrux is trying to destroy other Horcrux...
I think somewhere in the books it’s indicated that the Sword of Gryffindor resides in the headmaster’s office - which is to say - Gryffindor’s office. It’s there when Snape has to get it to Harry in Deathly Hollows. So I imagine that’s where it “lives” until needed and from there it travels around to present itself to Gryffindors in need.
So I keep commenting on the videos that there was something in wizarding world that explains why Dumbledore hired Lockhart. What I didn’t remember is how it kind of does fall in with his big plan. Here is the quote from wizarding world: Albus Dumbledore’s plans, however, ran deep. He happened to have known two of the wizards for whose life’s work Gilderoy Lockhart had taken credit, and was one of the only people in the world who thought he knew what Lockhart was up to. Dumbledore was convinced that Lockhart needed only to be put back into an ordinary school setting to be revealed as a charlatan and a fraud. Professor McGonagall, who had never liked Lockhart, asked Dumbledore what he thought students would learn from such a vain, celebrity-hungry man. Dumbledore replied that ‘there is plenty to be learned even from a bad teacher: what not to do, how not to be’. That last line is similar to what Ben and J have been saying about showing Harry not to let fame get to his head.
I have a suggestion for a potential Lockhart Victim. Bathilda Bagshot. We know she knew Dumbledore, he would have heard plenty of stories from her in the years he lived next to her in Godrics Hollow. She was introduced to James and Lilly by Dumbledore. Her memory went funny at some point. The reasoning given for her memory has always been her age but she is the only magical person we know who has memory issues without being affected by a memory charm.
Do we have any information how the sword can be used in a duel? It can destroy magical objects and it cuts like a normal sword. Maybe it can block spells, because I don't know how someone would use a short-range sword as an offensive weapon against a wizard with long-range spells. It's also impractical if you can only use the sword or your wand at the same time, maybe it's small size makes handling both possible.
Wonder if it could have played out with Dobby at the Weasley's because possibly Arthur gets how to re-phrase questions to get info from Dobby? the broken wand might have occurred from some "stupid" stunt that a youngster might make at school, at a more appropriate time later in the story. it makes a different story, but could still work.
Dobby is nearly the Indiana Jones of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The only thing he did that directly affected the plot was stopping Harry’s mail and preventing him from getting on the train.
I was listening to goblet of fire and I realize something Frank Bryce is only awakened due to a pain in his leg so what if he never woke up, Nagini would’ve never been turned into a horcrux (I forgot which book Dumbledore confirms this in, but it is said that he ties the connection between the death of Frank Bryce and the sudden change in Nagini) meaning that Harry would never have seen the vision of Nagini biting Mr. Weasley which means Dumbledore never connects that both Harry and Voldemort have a link into each other’s minds. Meaning, as soon as Voldemort realizes this, he will have a much greater connection because Harry would not have been taking lessons against it, or Voldemort find out at all?
Big What if idea, maybe after hearing the rumors of a dark spirit(Voldemort) in the Albanian forests, Dumbledore has an idea, to draw out the dark lord in his weakened state, to give him a more meaningful farewell. As well as to offer the magical community a more satisfying end to the dark days. The reasoning hear could be that Dumbledores' "For the greater good" ideas may still be brewing in the cauldron. Regardless of his reputation, he is still just a man, however magical.
I'm mentioning Dumbledore saved Dracos soul by having Snape kill him & not Draco, brought me to think about Harry in Sorcerers Stone. He killed a man at age 11 & he doesn't mention or show trauma of killing someone at such a young age. Adults in combat zones sometimes crack under the weight of taking a life. So Dumbledore keeping him humble & sociopathic is a HUGE accomplishment.

Dumbledore warns Mr. Malfoy not to bring more of Tom Riddle's objects, especially horkruxes, into Hogwarts, while Harry is in the room. 5 years later, Harry brings another Horkrux to Hogwarts.
Without Dobby, Ron wouldn’t have been in detention and scrubbing TM Riddle’s trophy. Well… maybe he would for assaulting Draco, who would have spent an evening vomiting slugs.
I see a bunch of people saying that the story ends at obliviate but it discounts a couple of things first of all the wand ron’s wand core which is already not loyal to him would be even less responsive to Lochhart so I don’t think the spell happens at all I think the wand fizzles and sparks but probably won’t produce any actual magic. Second is that that knowing a broken wand will probably backfire makes Lockhart a non threat if got a working wand they would have been quicker on the draw. However the spiders would definitely be a bigger issue without the car escape becomes far less likely but far from impossible thanks to the spell Hermione used on the pixies Immobulus.
regarding the looks of the wands, I always thought that there is some kind of business that offers personalisation or that it is something the wizards and witches do themselves, because otherwise it would be weird that Voldemorts or even Lucius wands looked the way they do when they bought them. And in the movies the appearence of harrys wand also changes, from the boring looking stick to the thing with the handle made of bark. But recently I thought maybe its some type of selfactualization or adapting the wand does to better fit to their wielder. what do you think?

In the chamber after the basilisk is blinded but still chasing Harry, Harry puts on the sorting hat and says "help me, help me". That is when the sword appears in the hat and hits Harry in the head. Why the head trauma I do not know, this is something for the Carlin Bros to ponder. This fulfills Dumbledore's statement that "at Hogwarts help will be given to those who ask for it." I saw this as I was reading the chapters along with the pod casts. BTW, I love the pod cast you give so much insight to the books.
They already talk about this in DETAIL in the Heir of Slytherin chapter, the episode before this.
Come on Lockhart, "Dances With Werewolves" was right there! 😆
I never noticed that Snape knocks the Carrow’s out! Amazing detail!
Fellowship of the Phoenix
Love the pun !
the way J said "Ollivander?!?" had me giggling
Congrats on your first sponsor on the podcast guys!! 🎉
Quirrel was able to get in and out of Gringotts without getting caught. That makes him an extremely talented wizard, so as far as I'm concerned, Travels with Trolls theory confirmed. Nice one, bros.
Not to mention Dumbledore fell in the same category as James and Sirius, he was about fame and it caused him so much pain
Why would Dumbledore have to have donated the phoenix feather for the wands before The Duel? I don’t understand that part
@hufflepom oh yeah sure thanks!
In my mind whenever Dumbledore wants Snape to do something, but doesn’t want to explain why he just says, “do it for Lily” lol
The one think about Lockheart. Dumbledore knew he was a fraud AND knew the DADD was cursed. He had hoped the curse would expose Lockheart as well,
How heart breaking would it be to see a scene with a young Gilderoy visiting an old Newt….
But he didn't really died, Voldemort says so himself
@@IdaSantti But Dumbledore doesn't know that, he just knows that after attacking Harry he disappeared and his forces fell and he doesn't know about the Horcruxes to assume that he's still alive
@@saltshaker1118 he didn't know about the horcruxes specifically yes, but he never believed Voldy to be dead and gone. That's why he put Harry to live with Petunia
Didn't you Guys make a video about Dobby not being pointless in COS ?
Hey Brother, I have an question for you: Why doesn´t Harry burn the Diary like he did with Quirrell.
did dobby mess with the floo powder travel? harry ends up with the malfoys right after and they incriminate themselves in that shop at that time... coincidence?
Also dobby teaches all three of the trio about how house else have been treated and the thing that tips the scale in hermoines loves for ron
Appreciate J with the Salty Dog sweater during the sponsor spot; a lot of good memories on Hilton Head.
HP ALWAYS! The mustache J! lol. Also, loving this alongside content!
Hermione is excellent with memory charms. She removed herself from her parents' memories but left the rest. Her parents went to Australia (Sydney?). So yes, you don't have to wipe a person's entire memory.
The "Pre"-Order was right there guys 18:14 lol
If Dobby wouldn't have shown up, then Harry would probably only see Dobby as a weird little creature with Luscious.
Dobby is necessary in this book to set up House Elfs and their rules. So when Kreacher follows RAB's orders it's understood without stopping the story for an explanation. Other house-elfs too.
I’m not sure if it’s the case in America, but in England grapes are a typical thing that you’d bring to a hospital
Amazing! Thanks For this! Love it! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Bringing fruit to someone in the hospital is a British custom
There was TONS of responses saying this when they mentioned it first time…there’s no way they didn’t see them
Though I’d say it’s actually a pretty European wide custom
@@ObsessiveGeek I was one of them lol
@@ObsessiveGeek didn’t know that, I assumed (since they hadn’t heard of it) that it was English only
In the middle of the night?
A Very Good Video 👌🏻👍🏻
If the headmaster’s office was Godric Griffindore’s space it is likely that is where the sword lives normally.
Without the flying car, Harry also sees the carriages that pull themselves and Thestrels are much more surprising later on
He sees that in year 3 and 4 ? He just doesn’t go to the sorting ceremony year 3 because he’s being checked over by Madame Pomfrey.
Love the stash J, love the content gentleman
I'm for a partial plan from Dumbledore. I think Dumbledore is okay with hiring Lockhart, for example, because
A) anyone truly competent with the dark arts may recognize a pattern and realize the position is jinxed, and so wouldn't take the job unless they had a very good reason to, so he would be desperate to hire even a 2nd or even 3rd rate teacher.
It wasn't in the office. Snape had secured it and placed a fake in Bellatrix's vault.
Great bonus episode! Google form submitted!
So I keep commenting on the videos that there was something in wizarding world that explains why Dumbledore hired Lockhart. What I didn’t remember is how it kind of does fall in with his big plan. Here is the quote from wizarding world:
Albus Dumbledore’s plans, however, ran deep.
I really hope you guys do Pacific Northwest tour maybe for like book 5 or something
I actually always thought that he hired an Obvious Teacher just to get him for impersonating other people in a first place
I have a question
What book editions are you useing?
Love the podcasts, amazing. But isn't the sound very rumbly? Could the team look into that a little bit with the audio setup?
Guys!! Like MANY other people said, Ron’s wand!! Dobby was rather important in that sequence of events and having Lockhart eventually meet Karma
To me Dumbledore's Big Plan is to HP as Rhaegar+Lyanna=Jon is to A Song of Ice and Fire. It's pretty much cannon at this point.
Dobby is nearly the Indiana Jones of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The only thing he did that directly affected the plot was stopping Harry’s mail and preventing him from getting on the train.
The broken wand and the car in the forest.
How will the live podcast work for people who can't go?... look forward to these every week ❤
In the movie, not only did Snape deflected the spells towards the Carrows but also took their wands before he flew away
I think the banchey book would be more of a connection with Dumbledore's friend, he has talked about his friend dealing with banchies
Here we go
I may be misremembering, but wasn't the sword in Dumbledore's office in year one?
Personally I like the Spellslinger series way of getting to the Truth by using playing cards to tell a story
Without Dobby, Ron wouldn’t have been in detention and scrubbing TM Riddle’s trophy. Well… maybe he would for assaulting Draco, who would have spent an evening vomiting slugs.
For maybe the last 3 years I was convinced ben was the older of the two brothers. He seems like it
They are the OG Dumbledore's Army lol
They have a Google doc where they’re picking out outfits for the tour? Well, that’s fucking adorable
regarding the looks of the wands, I always thought that there is some kind of business that offers personalisation or that it is something the wizards and witches do themselves, because otherwise it would be weird that Voldemorts or even Lucius wands looked the way they do when they bought them. And in the movies the appearence of harrys wand also changes, from the boring looking stick to the thing with the handle made of bark. But recently I thought maybe its some type of selfactualization or adapting the wand does to better fit to their wielder. what do you think?
Hay j and Ben absolutely love Harry Potter, and I love your deep dives and theories on scb, and this is the most in-depth dive into the books I have found anywhere loveing every episode.
I have a question which is what if anything would happen to the story if dudley also was accepted to hogwarts as we know there is magical opportunity that runs in the family and it could have passed to dudley.
Keep up the amazing work
From your English fan.
I have a question, we see house elves all throughout the books but are there other types of elves? Like forest elves or something like that
Hi what if snape got the defense against the dark art job in book 2
There's an article on the Wizarding world website that talks about how Dumbledore is friends with several of the people Lockhart stole stories from.
