- In my latest video, I show you how to use the 4x4 gear lever on the new Mahindra Thar. This one is the diesel Automatic model. Apart from showcasing how to change the gears, I also showcase the speed difference in the same gear when you shift to 4x4 low.

IT was a great video and good info. Pls let me know about the diff locks in the 2021 model diesel manual how it works as the 4wheel gear shift does not show or indicate .Does it come on automatically. Thanks
2H : Normal mode ( power to rear wheels only)
4H : For slippery , rocky , dusty ,snowy etc conditions ( where more power/torque along with the speed is required)
N : just a stop in between 4H & 4L for safety purpose and not to screw gearbox .
4L : situations like climbing , towing etc is required where u need more power/torque but at the cost of lesser speed .

@@rameshnayak1480 N means neutral , it just gives u and the machine some time with extra safety buffer to avoid inadvertently selection of other mode suddenly .

And what 4H too what gear should we put
I thought that when you have 4H turned on ,while making circles the or taking turns the drive shaft experiences a force and can cause permanent damage to the driveshaft? Due to the differential mechanism and logic….4H has power distribution 50-50 to front and back…

No. Just be in neutral
mileage will increase if you will follow my steps -
1). Good tyre pressure
2). Slowly acceleration
3). Constant speed of 30 to 40 kmph with power petrol
4). Servicing on every year of your car
5). Avoid sudden breaking and avoid sudden acceleration
6). your car rpm should not be more than 3000-4000 rpm
7).In traffic areas drive at 20kmph constant speed
8) .Good quality fuel and engine oil will increase mileage

Neutral mein gaadi nhi chalegi. You need to put it in drive mode(for automatic) or 1st or 2nd gear(for manual)
What happens when the 4x4 lever is at N, but you try to drive ?

This makes no sense: why is the traction control off when in 4 low? One would need all the traction that one can get. I have been driving 4x4s since 1965 in all manner of cars/trucks.
Traction control doesn’t add up traction as you are possibly thinking. It switches off torque supply to wheels when over slippery surfaces so that it doesn’t slip further because of a freely spinning wheel over a traction less surface.
