Bro one doubt what is the purpose of the button there in the automatic lever on the side
O/D off button (over drive). It limits the transmission to 3rd gear. So you have L= 1, then 2, then D = 3 and 4. If you only want 3 you press the button.

Do you have an idea if the 4wd not engaging, the indicator is blinking meaning not engaged but it shifted to low range. What could be the problem?

I am little doubtful on your statement of when shifting to gear 2, it will start from 2nd gear, I think its pretty similar to GV, if you place it in 2, the car will start from 1st gear, will shift to 2nd if RPM increases, but will stay at 2, no matter how high is the RPM, but if RPM drops below the RPM range of 2nd gear, it will shift back to 1st gear. Basically it will switch between 1st and 2nd gear

Spoke to a few experts.
2 means start in 2 and stick to 2. Example black ice where u don't wanna be in 1 and don't want the extra spin.
Update : an owner says start in 1 but stick to 2
@@BunnyPuniaVideos ok, in GV, I have L, 2, 3 and then D (which is effectively 4th).
When I shift to 3, it starts from 1, shift to 2 and then 3 based on the RPM range, but as I stop, it shifts back to 1. Similarly when I am at 2, it starts from 1, shift to 2 and then stays there, no matter how high is the rpm, but it shifts to 1 at really low rpm or at stop.

@@BunnyPuniaVideos When 2 is engaged, it will toggle between 1st and 2nd gear only depending upon the rpm, whereas L will restrict it to 1st gear only. It also have OD button, once OD is switched off, Jimny will toggle between 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear, no matter whatever be the rpm, it wont shift to 4th gear which essentially is the only overdrive gear.
I recently got Jimny and my friend have a Thar. Every video that i watch said "never use 4x4 on paved roads"
Even my service manual says that using those in roads can damage the system.
My friend on the other hand uses his Thar in 4x4 mode on a regular basis even on city roads. and his car is still working fine.
We both live in city and have zero use of 4x4 on daily basis.
I am confused and reluctant to even put my car in 4x4 mode. Is Thar more reliable in 4x4 ? and exactly where can i use this 4x4 mode when almost all famous hill stations have paved roads these days.

Using neutral your vehicle cannot go. you should use any gear even when using 4x4

Yes it can be used. Try to avoid full lock and make bigger turns, but if you have to, then lift your feet off the throttle when turning. Don't fight the steering wheel.

How and when does the differentials lock ?
No you can't. You'll bind the drive train up. The diffs don't lock but you have the AllGrip system

If you press OD, the gearbox will not go into OD or overdrive mode. It will only operate in 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears

Overdrive mode is what 4 speed + 1 or 3+1 ... meaning D is upto 3 speed and OD is 4? Or is it 5?
OD ON 1-4. OD OFF 1-3. There is no 5th gear (in automatic variant).

Only because the 4 low gear hasnt got engaged properly..you need to push and pull back the 4*4 gear knob properly
