After making short work of the npc, it scans you to see if you pose a threat, then leaves once it determines that you're safe enough

To appease the conspiracy theorists: This video is a compilation of three shorter videos originally uploaded to the XboxDVR service. There are multiple encounters here, which have been spliced together to create one video, likely due to limitations of the XboxDVR service (or limitations of the knowledge of the user). The ship that appears and opens fire at the beginning is an Anaconda, an NPC pirate - we just couldn't see the taunting chat messages that accompany such things because the Thargoids shut down this pilot's HUD. When the Anaconda magically disappears and the fuel levels change - that's the splice between videos/encounters.
Please shut up already. His fuel levels and destination change between the 2 spliced videos. The Anaconda that glitched in even disappears and he now has someone in his wing
@@gavinmitchell3709 yes the sequence itself was scripted but I meant just the random encounter portion of it. Wasn’t like a “if you go here this is going ton happen” moment.
There’s something inherently terrifying about a hard fact, an unbreakable rule you’ve lived by for years, suddenly being meaningless. “Hyperspace is safe. If I can just to hyperspace, it’ll break off the pursuit completely, and even if they follow me, I can be ready to fight or flee as I need.” Suddenly, your hyperspace, your illusion of a safe place, is shattered, and you drop into the black, far away from the light of any star, and your systems start inexplicably losing power one by one. You have no control, no ability to fight back or even self-destruct against whatever just did the impossible.
I will list some possibilities for what it could be and what it's agenda might be. 1. It's a scout-ship/rescue ship searching for the remains of what was in the crash-site. 2. It's Thargoid but it doesn't want to cause another-war/situation, after what happened with the last war. 3. It could be a drone. 4. The ship's could be collecting data on us, where we colonized, where we didn't, what we make our ships out-off, what's used as weapons and what ships we use. Personal opinion but I think it's best to let them take the first shot because we don't know what they want, maybe they are worried about starting another war against us? After all it seems like frontier wants us to not think of the aliens as human but as something-else.
This is a great way to introduce new content to the game. I'm not a player but the idea of essentially Discovering an expansion in the game, (is this a correct characterization?) seem slike a brilliant idea.

Wakes are what ships leave behind when using their frame shift drive, which is the FTL drive. Using a wake scanner you can pinpoint the direction the ship that left the wake left is and follow them. Thargoids, however, leave wakes that cannot be scanned, cannot be followed, and really just reveal nothing at all. This and other things suggest that Thargoids use different likely more advanced frame shift drives.
piegunman Wakes are energy residue left over from a hyperspace jump. Scanning it allows you to pinpoint exactly where the ship jumped to, so you can track it. The wake being unable to be decoded means that it’s both an energy signal we can’t trace, and that we can’t follow the ship.
