LYRICS:
When I look in the glass I can see you there
I can see you around my eyes
So I follow the star in the eastern sky
coloring the horizon
With the moon in your teeth like a piece of cheese
Crumbling everywhere
And you’re gathering kindling and blackberries
You send up your gilded flare
I know whichever way the wind blows you’re gonna face it
Stand tall you can be someone to follow- you’re gonna make it
On the night you were born I cradled you
I held you in my arms
And with every planet in Capricorn
I knew you’d sound the alarm
Always fighting the good fight, baby
Picking up whoever’s down
You’re giving them words for their weaponry
You wear the mother of exile’s crown
I know whichever way the wind blows you’re gonna face it
Stand tall you can be someone to follow- you’re gonna make it
I know whichever way the wind blows you’re gonna face it
Stand tall you can be someone to follow- you’re gonna make it

A beautiful tribute song to the American Suffragettes movement! Grammy bound for sure......
that melody. that voice. that bridge. the phantom odd time bar. the slow down. that banjo. that stripped down kit. that hollowbody bass. that accordion. that mix. SO GOOD what the heck
Great.
Brilliant! Love Aoife! A modern Joni Mitchell.
The purity of Aoife’s voice reminds me of hearing Alison Krause for the first time
❤
I will be at the Barbican, London on the 18th.
🙂
OMG! IS THAT THE NOAM PIKELNY???
thanks Aoife, lovely as always
Something just happened in my heart
Peace ❤
This may be my fav or yours Aoife. That melody, your voice.... stunning. Thx Aoife and crew!
Wunderschön!
Beautiful song on a lovely album. The skill of Aoife is that she creates technically complex songs (in terms of key and time signature changes, controlled discordance etc) without sounding contrived - the musicality and emotion, which matter most, are still forefront, and I think that's a rare talent. And who doesn't love a good concept album 🙂. Looking forward to seeing her and band at the Barbican (UK) in June.
Aye.
I will be there as well.
🙂
Real inspiring thoughtful passionate enjoyable !!
Looking so forward to see her in the UK soon :)

The song is so motherly and feminine. Aoife, you write the best womanly songs.
