this guy deserves so much more recognition than he has
You're right! He is such an artist! But i come to think... does he need it? What is the recognition after all? Like... mass media or something? I believe that he wouldn't be the great artist that he is being on the top of the charts... he is doing what he feels and composing with his heart. When the 'music industry' takes over you... all those things start to fall. Thanks for read me.
he won an oscar....
@Raglan Road bro he's good there. Money is in touring these days and this gent sells out nearly every show he does.
I agree
hmm let's see Critics Choice Award , a Grammy...oh and an Oscar, he has more "recognition" than most
I have watched this every Christmas since 2013, when it was first broadcast. I am dreading the day it's taken off UA-cam. I've even contacted the production company behind Letterman but they won't give me a copy. This is my Christmas gift to myself every year, and I never want it to change. First play of 2021 is tonight!
I'm seeing it for the first time in 2022 and I've become hooked! Van Morrison through and through. London UK.
I hear ya Chris😊 Completely attached like a new born to it's mother. Best on UA-cam, my go to, particularly when I need a little Light💫💫💫☀️
Hi Chris,
You provably can downloaded from youtube using some website or app.
I’ve just shared it with myself !
Almost time for another watch sir!
An excellent talented and humble man Love his music and his spirit.
Glen Hansard is maybe the least appreciated artist of the total extra class. And it is only because he is obsessed with music and the humble, he does not need to do any extra promo. I saw him maybe 6 times or 7 live in the Czech republic, and he always plays with total commitment, whether playing for 300 listeners in the castle courtyard or for a full hall. He is a surreal artist!
Funny that you talked about commitment, when you know he was in « the commitments » movie. Totally agree with you, humble like a Irish
Thats holy true, no fires, no clowning......only pure music !!!
AMEN! A most talented musician, more than most! The Irish “less is more” runs through their veins, versus the American MORE IS MORE!! I speak from experience having lived in both countries, and why Irish musicians regardless of celebrity choose to remain living in Ireland. Whilst in Ireland I bumped into Bono drinking at the pub, and Bob G hanging in Dublin on the street - twas just another day 🤷♀️
Awh, this was nice to read! I'm from Dublin, yeah we like our melodies more than pyrotechnics ha. Glen is a sweetheart as well, ran into him a few times and he's just another lad in the pub
@@gentlyfierce1960 Haha yeah Bob is always round town. A lad I went on a few dates with lived in his old gaff. Mattress had the tags with his name on :S Bono keeps to himself but his daughters went to school with me (couple years older), so he'd be on campus for hockey matches and plays. Nice enough but... I mean take off the purple shades indoors mate ha. He's more LA than Ireland now.
You're spot on, loads of celebrities come here for privacy. Michael Jackson, Kim&Kanye, and remember Jay-Z and Beyonce went for a walk in the park with their new kid once, someone took 1 photo and let them alone. TMZ said it was because Ireland was so far behind we didn't know who they were.😂 Like, nah mate we just respect privacy. 😂😂
Glen is where my heart rests, the song of good hope breaks me down and also gives me the strength to get up again, keeps me going.
Glen is a human like so many of us who understand what live's about ..
Music can heal the world if we all listen to our hearts.
Love him, he's one of not many.
Please believe in yourself and magic can happen, never give up the belief.
NEVER EVER
He is the most charismatic musician of our time.
He is a human dynamo
Glen's music is timelessly beautiful and he is as good live as in studio, which is really rare. What a beautiful soul + voice.
For myself , live to the audience ( eye to eye he's better than many oher's ) .

Glen is one of the greatest artist of these last 20 years. Period.
facts
I stumbled across Glen Hansard after watching the movie Once. I only watched it because I LOVE movies about music or musicians. Fun Fact for novice Glen Hansard fans: Glen had a substantial part in the movie The Commitments from forever ago. He looks about 17 years old in it. And if you haven't seen that movie, what's wrong with you? It's so good! So Anyways, that movie turned me on to his music. I have and love all his stuff and then years later my wife and I went to the Broadway play titled appropriately enough, Once. It was AMAZING!!! Then a few years ago (probably 2015), I FINALLY had the chance to see him live in San Francisco. I've seen well over 100 concerts in my days and this live performance was my ALL TIME FAVORITE concert I've ever been to!! His passion, commitment, talent, and connection with the audience is truly one of a kind and absolutely genuine. I've been waiting for him to come back through anywhere within 500 miles of San Francisco and I will go... I'm serious. It was that entertaining. He was in Southern California last year but I had a vacation already booked and paid for. I was sorry I missed it. Come back to SF Glen.... And hurry!!!
I'm not at all ashamed to admit I've listened to this at work for the past 2 days on repeat.
would love to have revolate . awesome tune . go wan the Paddys
Last year I had a pleasure to see Glen Hansard live and it was the best concert I’ve ever seen. He came to Poland with his band consists of guitars, piano, strings and winds instruments. Glen’s music is just like him - energetic and positive, that’s why I couldn’t stop myself from smiling during the entire show. He also played some songs full of magical folk sounds straight from his motherland - Irleand. But the most amazing thing that night was the connection between fans and artists such as moments of Glen’s little talk and singing together polish songs „Hej, sokoły” and „Płonie ognisko”. It was really unbelievable evening.
About 25 years ago in clifden Galway it was a night of music with Glenn Hansard and friends , to this day I think that was the best concert ,he nearly blew the mic away with the volume of his voice
I have watched this so many times, it will never get old! ♡
Same , keep going the way
I had the privilege of seeing him live in concert last week. It was the best live show I've ever attended. He is definitely underrated. Great songwriter and musician.
Glen, Damian Rice, Mundy...what a generation of songwriters! Ireland I love you.
+gommax75 makes us so proud
and Mic Christopher RIP.....
Was going to add..don't forget mic Christopher.. topped them all!
dops o o think they are better than him
One of the best concerts taped and online--ever!
It weird seeing him with a guitar without a giant whole in it.
hole
He believes in getting his money out of his guitar like Willie Nelson does.
@@andrewkling9530 Stupid person
@@sartainja You are stupid.
Mary Mc Mullen Bit harsh there Mary. Bad day?
Glen is amazing... every show he plays, there's just that much of energy in it.
This man makes magic on the stage, makes magic with his lyrics, makes magic with his music. Totally in love of this magician. ❤️
I dream of the words to express what this man's art has done for my life and I know countless others'. His gut honesty and his organic craft are absolutely inspirational.
Bravo. Marvelous performance. Endless gratitude.
Am I the only one who has a lump in their throat from beginning to end of this amazing show?
I actually cried copious tears !
Bird of Sorrow has to be one of my most favorite songs--so passionate!
Agreed.
Did you cry...?
'Goosies' all over from that song😯🥰
@@sherp2u1 maybe
Was at this performance. Nothing but heart and soul on this stage.
Wow this is better than any therapy session I've ever had ... Lots of tears and smiles. I'm left full of hope for myself... and humanity in general. We are capable of so much, capable of this.... thanks Glen!
I was lucky enough to see Glen at the Capitol Theatre in 2018. Waited for hours to stand 2nd row and it was worth every minute of it. Best show ever.
The band he's playing with is amazing. I love all his shows but the band makes this one the best I've seen.
the parting glass from @69:50 is the most beautiful thing i've ever heard. National treasure this man is. Incredible
alk3ie 1000%
his honesty gives so much power to his delivery , it just rips you apart , i still haven't found anyone that is able to to that so effectively
how could they make the performance of 'when your minds made up' even more epic than the movie version. just incredible. blew me away!
Glen, Van would be proud of you, you're sublime, absolutely fantastic...... true soulful, loving music. thank you
such an amazing concert! u wont see his talent in 2022 anywhere! he is amazing!
the new Van Morrison, Glen H is an absolute legend, love him. Years of music to come, can;t wait...
This Gift is so "out of this world!"
God bless you, Glen ! Among all the sound-trash of today , you made me believe in music, in touching music again. And as Stevie Wonder said "Let's make love great again "! love is not America (Mr. President) , not Africa, Europe , Asia, Australia , not even the Antarctic (despite they need even more for the frozen arses).Who makes him self great makes others small !
This Gift... unbearably perfect
He broke the string twice 😂
@@cubonemaker5080 and we don’t care and neither does he. This is the gift of being a street performer for decades in Ireland. He can cope with anything and do anything he wants to and it’s all mesmerising and full of energy.
@@swami19581 yup! And I think it’s freaking awesome!
UGH, I CAN WATCH AND LISTEN TO THIS ALL DAY EVERY DAY... LOVE HIM!!!! :)
so so glad i stumbled upon this recording. worth every second!
It just does not get better than this.
That horn section is so killer!
he 's becoming even better and better :) awesome Glen!you seem so happy up there
One of the BEST shows I've ever been to.
It's so good to listen to Glen at this time of year, it's like he transports me back to Dublin and Grafton Street for a little while...:)
Easter Sunday and have just missed mass listening to this and have to say no apologies as I have learnt more about myself and life in the last hour than any sermon would have taught me!!!
I like how Glen announced himself on the show.
Glen changed my life. The music, the lyrics, the passion.....just incredible. Ringing in the new year alone with this blaring in the living room. Love it!!
Could sing the phonebook. Brilliant live
BTW-- this is The Frames. at least two or three of these guys are long time members of Glen's band from Ireland. a shame they couldn't have been billed as "The Frames" since no one would know who that is. because they're one of the best bands of all time.
+Chris Altman Yeah, I was laughing at that. The only Frame missing is Colm. If you look at the Swell Season's live videos, it's even more obvious--it's the full Frame lineup + Marketa. Glen said once "Outside the US, we tour as the Frames, inside the US we tour as the Swell Season. Same band."
chris altman so true they are the best band ever!
I think the hardcore fans know this already so thee is no need to say, also its the 'Glen Hansard'show afterall
They are great, no doubt about it.
As the frames i believe they are stuck in one music gender, alternative rock. But as Glen's band, they have much more freedom to create and play
This is such a brilliant performance from Glen and the band. So glad folks get to see Glen's incredible energy, charisma, and talent. Love this man! Love this band!!
Such a voice of these crazy times..joy and pain...and when he dances...
this has to be one of the most spiritual things I've seen. saw him in Sydney this year and was moved for days. The energy him and his band channel is beyond words!!! :)
Couldn't agree more! He's a channell as I've not experienced in music. He has a love of the 'Holy', and LIVES IT more importantly through his humility and service to his craft, versus image!
Jaysus Christ , if ever a man was IN his music , how is he not a fucking superstar , nothing but respect from this finglas man to a star from ballymun . Amazing
I love how he broke his string, and handled it so smoothly.
+Singit I've seen him do that live, it's astonishing, never drops a note.
My guess is that when you play that hard, you have to become a pro at handling that really quickly haha. If you watch closely he actually broke another one at the end of the same song. He does it pretty often!
He is so humble and so connected to his band and the audience, so in the zone, the energy is overwhelming
genius and probably one of the top 5 rock vocalists in the world right now
Best 1:19:04 seconds in the middle of the night I've had in a while.
I wish I could like this 100 times.
Saw "ONCE", rushed out to buy soundtrack. Saw Glen & Marketa live at a huge venue in Chicago, which of course Glen made you feel you were at an intimate night club. His latest solo album is superb, so heartfelt. He is truly our very best songwriter, singer, performer of our time!! With so much computer crap music, just take the time to listen to this extraordinary performance. I am NOT a star struck type person, but Glen is the only star I would LOVE to meet, just so I can thank him in person for the gifts he gives us. This is just PERFECT!!!
You would love Damien Rice too if you loved Glen.
Tutte le volte che ti ascolto!!Glen !!per me e una nuova emozione!!!😇🤗🤗🤗🤗😍😍😍😘😘🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶💎💎💯💯
The Gift is the best song by far...agree?
Performed live, absolutely. I actually think it's not as brilliant on CD, but live it's 100% my favorite.
I don't care if I'm in my office or the metro. I always head bang to it.
Saved my life
take a bow lad, that was incredible
LMAO DID GLEN JUST DO HIS OWN INTRO?! hahaha love that man
seen him twice this year in galway, freaking amazing, he played for over 3hours in the town hall, just pure class
I saw him in Paris last week, same. Three hours of great music.
He is wonderful. Saw him as the support act for Eddie Vedder in Australia in February.
that saxophone solo on Drive All Night was fire also....!
This concert is phenomenal! Thanks for serving this gem up!
I can't stand Glen's presentations! Which one I see I get more goosebumps! He is so wonderful!
It's just , beautifull !!! So good songs , so much melody, amazing.
Going to see you at the Cannery in Nashville on Sept 18th at the Cannery, Americana Festival with my kids. Can't wait.
55:12 This part still give me the chills. Broken string won't make this guy stop
I saw him some 26 years ago and watched him restring a guitar himself and retune it mid song without dropping a single line, absolutely unreal
Props to the entire strings and brass section; they've really accentuated Glen's voice and he really knew how to work them into each song.
My favourite concert, by anyone, ever. And I've seen Alison Krauss and Union Station, LIVE, in Bangor, Maine. This guy is amazing.
Didn't know he even did a Letterman recording. He is something else. A ntional treasure indeed. Our very own Dylan.
We Irish love to sing and sing along, fortunately, some of us can actually sing like Glen!
It may be 7 years old but what I love about this is the way Glen just looks like he is having fun, enjoying the whole experience including getting electrocuted by mic and wrecking 2 guitars in one tune ;p Seeing The Frames back mid 90s in small local venues in my home town are some of the highlights of my teens. He never looked like he was just going through the motions which i'm sure he was at times. He even joined us for a post-gig beer once, little did we know he'd be an Oscar winner and a very popular musician especially with so many world renowned musicians. How lucky to have had Pearl Jam and The Frames as my favourite bands and then have the two frontmen collaborate so often!!
@@carinagrennan129 Well he broke strings on 2 different guitars (55:07 is the first), within a song or 2 of each other which they all found funny. He doesnt go easy on guitars, have a look at his 'original' in other pics or vids from a number of years back with a hole in the body worn through, but I'm sure they are strung knowing that he will test them and yet pinged 3 in total on 2 guitars. There's a live solo acoustic gig in the US, broke strings early on, had to change the set off the top of his head, was going to sing with no music until another band let him use one of their guitars - I think he was afraid then as that band were on straight after lol.
@@carinagrennan129 I think this is the gig ua-cam.com/video/ooow7xqTMt0/v-deo.html Are you based in the US or just were lucky enough to catch a gig there? He is such good pals with Eddie Vedder, if I was at a show in the US i'd be praying that Eddie would be brought on stage!!
@@carinagrennan129 Home in Ireland currently, for a while at least. I saw the Frames in my home town 3 times during the late 90's when they were still just making their way. Then Glen did a few solo gigs 2 I caught which was pure luck as I just happened to be home from London both times. Really small intimate venue too so loads of interaction with the crowd and kinda informal if a gig can be formal lol. I'd be furious with myself for missing the concet you mention but I have one also - Pearl Jam were supporting Neil Young at Slane Castle, I was a kid back then, was a bit tired after the stupid o'clock early start and watching every supporting act from midday 'til 5pm. Sharon Shannon was up next so I went and found a quit spot for a snooze....I slept through her set, and managed to sleep through the 1st 45mins of PJ!!?? One of the loudest bands at that time and 100k people there ugh sickened lol. I was 13 or 14 so not like I was drinking or smoking or the like. Wee bit of trivia though you may know - if you ever watch the movie Pulp Fiction again watch out for a character wearing a The Frames t-shirt!! Are you from Michigan or in the US working? They are playing Chicago in the Autumn, though while it looks like its not a big trip its probably 6 or 7 hours of travel from Michigan with the size of The States lol. That would be some gig to get to if it even gets to go ahead.
@@carinagrennan129 Yeah hard to know whether to buy tickets when you have to organise flights, hotels, etc on top. How did ye get into The Frames/Glen Hansard? I ask cause when a student in London I worked in an Irish bar (not at all a stereotype lol). They only played Irish music/bands but only well-known bands - U2, Cranberries, Corrs, and the like. I convinced the manager to give me £100 to buy a load of albums from Irish bands that were excellent but just didn't make it big (ua-cam.com/video/cDo6Lgylsjg/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/ZQbDeHpgozA/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/cuLcCmj4vMY/v-deo.html). There were so many people that were asking bar staff who these tunes were by - the Fitzcaraldo album topping the heap!! Ugh, I had so many plans myself over the summer too. Yup I am born and raised on in Ireland. I think it's incredible that someone born in the US, with Irish roots , has an interest in Irish bands at all!! Teaching must be really odd at the moment but hey teachers are as front line as, medics, police, fire crews. I couldn't do what you do!!!
There are a good few more bands that I could have stuck in above. I missed much of their heydey :p But still great bands!!!

He destroys those strings in "This Gift!" Great show! Glad I caught it live :-)
Je ne connaissais pas du tout, la révélation. Super concert. Un régal !!!!
It's Christmas time, time to watch the whole concert. Again.
Discovered this concert and put it on my playlist. You're right-- watch it at Christmas time!
Brilliant concert [under statement] !!!
One of my favourite vocalists! What I like about Glen is, he's always been honest in his lyrics.
Loved this. I haven't seen much of his stuff outside of Once.
Truly awesome performer and one I would love to see live someday.
Simply cannot get enough of Glen's magical voice, songwriting. Always a breath of fresh air.
Seen Glen 3 times and have no problem putting all three in my top 10 shows of all time.
Glen you are amazing how many musicians are given the whole david letterman show to themselves ? you are the irish version of bruce springsteen your songs are just unbelievable and you and springsteen have another thing in common because both of you received an oscar for writhing songs falling slowly and philadelphia how many other musicians can say that . Plus glen you have never forgotten where you come from no airs or graces about you a class act so keep on rocking
Thank you to all parties involved. Fantastic!
I remember this like it was yesterday.
That was the best concert I‘ve ever seen
He is amazing!!! One of those guys which is even better live
My husband on our first date played Glen Hansard for me on the jukebox. This is now our have sex soundtrack. Haha
For everyone who thinks Glen is just about once, check out. The Frames set list.. The frames is Glens band for the past 20 years or so..
A true gent is Glen!!
This is the best concert that ever happened.
Mind blowing. Wonderful stuff, particularly "Her Mercy" from 39:45 and Springsteen's "Drive All Night" from 59:45. Loved every moment. Thanks Glen Hansard (and Stephen Cleary for sharing).
Love this guy!! Awesome musician!
THE SAX STARTING AT 1:04.........omg! Goosebumps all the way to the marrow of my soul.
Love Glen Hansard!
I usually watch this every year at Christmas. for some reason I needed it today
he's genuine!!!
Love the crescendo at the end of Her Mercy
I got rid of my television years ago -- but finding this made me glad to know there are not such blind folk behind the scenes. Been following Glen's career since the Oscar win -- bought the movie Once the minute it came out -- it has since been passed on to a good friend and musician. Danny boy :)
Gabrielle Price Best live show I've seen that I wasn't at. Thank you, gotsome. Thank you, thank you.
Gabrielle Price Watch The Commitments, he was a lot younger then but it's a good movie.
Thanks Anna!
Greet concert ! And shows in nice way all his facet's without loosing him self in "I can do it all" ....
