The thing that impresses me the most about Kolibri is the graphics. Looks like a neat unique take on the genre.

Awesome shoutouts, i sure wouldn't be here if it wasn't for ppl like Cyanidebreathmints. Overall the "shooter community" here on youtube is just amazing. Great dudes and dudettes for sure.
Kolibri looks ace! Especially the backgrounds, very well made. It will be at the top of my list when i get my hands on a JP 32x.

So glad to see some more Bullet Heaven! I'm also glad to see that you're getting the props you deserve, too. I don't even play bullet hell shooters and I love watching the show! It's amazingly informative, interesting and so well produced.
The second you started up Kolibri all I could think was, "This looks like Ecco the Hummingbird." Very beautiful game.

Bro!..thanks heaps for the shoutout it's an honor and also to be mentioned among such great company!..
I want a 32x for this game alone!..it looks magical and simply amazing (in all departments)! At least there is a pal version(didn't know previous to this) even though it's pricey..there's hope!

This music pushes the Genesis & 32X to it's limits.

This game is actually very surprisingly unique, I think I may need another game to add to the 32x collection.

Well this is certainly surprising. I never even heard of this game up until now. Never actually played 32X to begin with, though..
    Anyway, great video. ^^

Looks like a cross between Mr Heli, Bangai-O and Ecco the Dolphin. Interesting.

It actually is from the developers of Ecco The Dolphin.

@shaurz I do too, I cant think of anything more fitting as an introduction for a shmup show.

I enjoyed this review! The only question that I have is whether the gameplay changes when you play in coop mode. Some games will double the amount of enemy AI when you choose the two player option. Does this game do this?

Sorry well I must've got confused because they look similar. It was stage 3 or 4, side scrolling, left oriented, over a pond/swamp.

Kolibri looks so beautiful but the version for my region (EU) can be multiple hundred pounds, if it ever pops up at all that is. It doesn't help that I'm a big ecco fan. This is way high up on want list.

I made the mistake of not buying Kolibri and a 32X back in 2001 when I could have had both for peanuts. Oh, to be young and dumb again :)

Seriously. I'd have gotten a Saturn instead of an N64 easy.

I was lucky in that, since I got married just a couple years prior, and was living in a larger city, there was some supply of Saturn stuff at the local independent game retailer. I bought my Saturn in 2000 for $35, snagged the Action Replay 4-in-1 that same year for $25, and a handful of great games dirt cheap. I lament not buying the US releases of Mega Man 8, Saturn Bomberman, and X-Men vs. Street Fighter when I could have had each for $25 or less. Now those all command stupid amounts of dough.

+Josh Dieckmann biggest advantage of learning a decent amount of Japanese. I don't even bother with US saturn anymore. but I do have most of the big titles. Shining Force III, dragon force, burning Rangers and Rayearth , just to name a few

    • @joshdieckmann595
      @joshdieckmann595 8 років тому +1

I've thought about that. I'm also considering getting another Action Replay to either make or have made the Pseudo Saturn cart so I can play burns, just so I can grab some translated games. As a collector, I want to own the physical product, but I'm sorry, I can't bring myself to pay $200 for Radiant Silvergun, no matter how good it is. It's not rare, it's just priced that way. There are still reasonably priced Japanese games, though, so buying the Japanese release, then grabbing a translation or burn of the US version is something I can justify, assuming there's not a current digital alternative.

Another thing I would like to add when it comes to the 32x this is pretty much your only option. There might be some other game out there but im 90% sure that this is the only shmup on the 32x.

Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000 would be the other one actually, which is more "pure" than Kolibri in the end. Shadow Squadron might count if you're reeeeeally generous.

  • @wadestoss3325

Anyone who is thinking of getting this, it doesnt play like a shmup. If you want a 32X shmup better to go with zaxxon motherbase 2000.

Kolibri reminds of of Agony on Amiga that I used to play as a kid:

I enjoyed enjoying ecco 1 back in the day but when i revisited it recently i hated how ecco controlled and found it very slow and boring. Kolibri looks like the game i should of played instead of ecco :-)
