Don't add olive oil no Italian adds it Contrary to popular myth, adding oil into the water does not stop pasta sticking together. It will only make the pasta slippery which means your delicious sauce will not stick. Instead, add salt to the pasta water when it comes to the boil and before you add the pasta. But the rest is okay bravo Jaime
Na. The starchy water is added to the pasta while you are finishing it in a pan with some sauce. You have to finish cooking the pasta in a pan with the sauce in order to get the best flavor. Adding the starchy liquid makes it creamy and delicate.
I would gently push down the Spaghetti as the lower part softens. Leaving one part up and one in the water will make it cooked uneven. And spaghetti are ready quiet fast compared to bigger kinds of pasta.
Foc4ccin4 the pasta starts to melt as soon as it hits the boiling water. Thick fettuccine takes a bit longer to melt though. But if it's a thin pasta, it only takes about 10sec for it to soften in the water so you and twist the pasta into the water.
I think he meant that you should take some of the starchy water that was from the pot itself, and then maybe drizzle it back into the pot so that it keeps the pasta from becoming mushy. I hope that helped explain your question. :)
' first put dry hard noodle / pasta in the pot... pour a chicken booth or water and slow stir... pour canned of cream corn / corn or any vegetable... pour canned of chucky chicken, alfredo cheese sauce and slow stir... put in the refrigerator at overnight... dont need to cooking heater or hot / dont need salty... next day noodle / pasta already soft thaw then pick up the pot / slow stir then put turn on low heater / hot until low boil and turn off the heater / hot and slow stir... wait a little 5 to 10 minutes... ready to eat yummuy soupy
If i think what is italian food ? Specify yourself please. You said that Jamie is the first person you see who cooks pasta well and now you say "if you think this is italian good you`re saying shit".I don`t follow?
Kiril Velkov assume you ate pasta everyday of your life till now, would you consider yourself eligible of judging whether a pasta is well prepared or not?
While the pasta is cooking, little amount of starch from the pasta will dissolve in the water, which make the water kind of blurred. The word "starchy" probably just his way to called it.
David Anderson olive oil in the water keeps the pasta from sticking together as it's cooking. It's been proven to work. Hell, even Jamie Oliver puts olive oil in the boiling water sometimes, he said it himself.
Just so here's no misinformation, the salt is only for favor; yes the solution will have a higher boiling point that just water but its so minimal, it will have almost no appreciable effect on the time it takes to cook
I think he is using De Cecco brand pasta, that is some good quality pasta, don't ruin it by adding oil in the water. Good quality pasta won't get your water starchy. If your pasta does make the water starchy, it is cheap quality pasta.
you're doing it wrong because first of all , in Italy , we use 10 grams of salt for every 100 grams of pasta. so it's not just a little bit it's the correct measure. nr2 : when you put the pasta you got the correct technique @Jaimeoliver but because of the hot temperature in the bottom the pasta for those few seconds will get not burned but risk going close to it. what you should do is just immediately immediately after you throw them in the water push them all down. all of them trust me , they won't break, they never do. so cooking pasta isn't rocket science but doing it right can be learned only if you see it in italy where it was invented and where we eat it almost everyday 😃. cheers Jamie nice video
Jamie Oliver can cook pasta! Like all of you in the comment, for sure. By the way if you want to cook pasta perfectly, when you put it in the boiling water, you can't wait 'till it goes down "naturally". Simply, because if you wait too long, the pasta in the boiling water will cook then the one outside it will not cook. In this way it is not uniformly cooked and you will have half the pasta "al-dente" and the other it's f****** over cooked. Then it's important to just not treat pasta like a punching ball, it's delicate.
I would prefer Gennaro's way to put pasta in boiling water... he doesnt lose it but simply put his hand over the pasta and let it sink slowly as the lower part became softer then lose it
Clearly no idea what hes talking about, Taylor Russo? And who are you? Jamie Oliver learnt his trade in Italy and became the great chef he is today working many years there. you obviously know better tho eh ya fud! If you know so much why you watching a video on how to cook pasta?
Well about the oil in the pasta I've never heard of it, in Italy if you don't what to stick pasta you just don't have to leave it there, you have give a little mix sometimes, that's all I know :)
well beside the fact that i prefer to do my own pasta... u NEVER wanne put oil in your pasta water because it makes the paste not stick toghter... which sounds good for cooking the pasta... but u want your pasta sauce to cover or melt with the pasta and if u put oil into your water it will prevent that... i am sorry for my bad english!!! ... i am just a pasta lover ;-) i would also probaly add a little bit more salt... and as i sayed better do your own pasta 00 flour and some good eggs... roll it out and u will love it... espically if u start going crazy about doing tortillni/ torteloni! ravioli and so on.... xD love!
Why are there so many English chefs in popular culture today? I would be the first to credit them for many areas in which they are experts...except culinary arts. No other culture has such a long history of ruining food than the English.
I think just time it correctly so you can add the sauce to drained pasta immediately, or drain the pasta and put it back in the original pot, I think ideally you line the timings up perfectly though.
That''s badass! - the way he opened that pasta packet :D
Come ogni italiano... non è mica una novità 😣

And in those ten seconds I push it gently down.

He's hair is so funny in this video, he's lovely.
Assuming you know the proper technique for mixing the pasta and sauce (if you don't just look it up) Just ad the water while you are mixing.
i'm italian and this is the first person who cooks pasta well
So if you are italian that means you are a pasta expert ? Please...

@Jhung Dulini 12 minutes
Its sea salt they use. Its not the same as normal salt you buy out of the supermarket.
what is "starchy" water?
It's like my eyes are open now!
Thanks Jamie!!
Mad skillz
That is much helpful than Gordon Ramsay’s one.
I don't have olive oil can I use just cooking oil.
While the pasta is cooking, little amount of starch from the pasta will dissolve in the water, which make the water kind of blurred. The word "starchy" probably just his way to called it.
great vid!!!!!
Jamie, could you give Gordon a ring and explain to him about NOT adding oil to the water. Gennaro doesn't.
David Anderson olive oil in the water keeps the pasta from sticking together as it's cooking. It's been proven to work. Hell, even Jamie Oliver puts olive oil in the boiling water sometimes, he said it himself.
Thetechgenius You only do it really with freshly made pasta
Thetechgenius yeah it's been proven it's useless
The olive oil add is to prevent boil over!
I always add a few drops of olive oil to my pasta water....glad its not too crazy
NICE

the pasta into the pot is enough for me....

Great tips, but it looks like you need to put a little bit more water in the pot, Jamie :)
we don't have kettles in the USA. Now what
Gorden put oil in pasta bro you said not?
Finally, no olive oil.
Why are there so many English chefs in popular culture today? I would be the first to credit them for many areas in which they are experts...except culinary arts. No other culture has such a long history of ruining food than the English.
Bollocks mate.
You forgot putting an oil to a boiling water mate..
oil is not good also washing spaghetti after cooking, u take the strengh from spaghetti
+Mars Steven Alonzo No need to put oil in the water. Spaghetti generally don't stick.
"Most people ... might even let the pasta sit there in the collinder"
Ok so how do you avoid doing that?
I think just time it correctly so you can add the sauce to drained pasta immediately, or drain the pasta and put it back in the original pot, I think ideally you line the timings up perfectly though.
Add the pasta to the sauce, not the sauce to the pasta.

Do not put oil in pot
He said "English style pasta" lol
what you just gave one tip
Mentions common mistakes, next sentence says put oil in the water.
you say passta....I say pasta....
Theatrics of boiling pasta. Slam open the package and twist and thrust the pasta in the water. This is not necessary.
Well done Mr Oliver, now instruct Ramsay how to cook a perfect pasta, he mix oil and water, for god sake.
Exactly like he just said he does sometimes....
