I have a different opinion and I like this monitor even with the matte matrix, if you need a shiny matrix, you have plenty of other monitors from other brands, leave LG alone, it's not your monitor, not this target, you want a shiny one, buy another monitor, leave us the consumers to choose, this monitor is not bad, I won't look at it with a lamp or a microscope to see if something is wrong, the image on the OLED is excellent.
I understand that you want to have some influence on LG to make a shiny matrix, but LG only makes semi-matte, matte screens.
You went crazy with this grinder, it's a great show for LG, maybe you'll be able to change LG's decision in the future.

I've watched a number of videos now on the glossy vs Matte mass debate.....
I get why some might 'need' matte, & why some prefer gloss.
It seems to me that what is required is some enterprising manufacturer to offer a glossy screen with a magnetic bezel where a matte cover can be easily attached/detached to let the customer decide depending upon the lighting conditions in their room & what compromises they are willing to accept.

It's passively cooled and has a nice design. Still wonder if there are more manufactorers going for the WOLED display, QD-OLED seems to be favorouble by most for some reason. Maybe the the Korean's have a thicker finger in the pap.

I do agree that glossy monitor has better image quality, but after using LG C2 for 9 months now, I would reccomend to anyone to buy matte because with glossy finish, you always have to keep your room very dark if you want clear picture. Thank you. Whether it's a TV or a computer monitor, glossy is always the way to go. Everyone makes a big deal about glare. But glare can be controlled. The ultra-rich black, super-deep colors, and razor-sharp text that you only get with a glossy surface means that a matte monitor simply won't do.

There won't be one, because this won't do anything, the issue he is having is with the panel itself, not the coating. The new panels from LG use MLA technology, which means you have micro-lenses in front of the pixels. The photos of the "blurry pixels" isn't the mate coating it's the micro lenses, and this is primarily an issue with taking photos of them rather than an actual visible issue.

I have this monitor now for two days. I can't say that the matt coating (read: in the realm of matt coatings) is anywhere near bad. Comparing it to a Samsung LE32D550 TV (VA 1080P matt) it's better in terms of reflection blocking. Iiyama ProLite B2483HSU (TN 1080P matt) is much worse since it doesn't block anything. Before I was using the AOC Q3279VWF (VA 32" 1440P glossy). The text clarity is better on my LG OLED (disabled cleartype). Off course I can't judge how much better it would have been if it was glossy...
I definitely do understand the attraction of a glossy panel since I have a LG C1 55" TV.

The normal adhesive used to hold on the 3M anti-glare sheets will dissolve in water. I have remove dozens of these display coatings by soaking the panel in water for about 12 hours.

I own and owned a lot of OLED TV's and now using a PG27AQDM.They will probably never get a full TV-like glossy coating because everytime I got a dirt spec, a fingerprint or some saliva on the TV glossy panel, it was almost impossible to fully clean it and monitors are more prone to that happening.

Let me ask you this, what did you think about the matte before you zoomed in 1000x into it?
I get your frustration about a $1400 monitor having matte, but that said it really isn’t that bad. The daytime appearance destroys the QD because it stays black better, and at night you literally can’t even tell it’s matte. Heck I can hardly tell during the daytime.
As someone who also prefers gloss over matte, I gotta say you’re definitely exaggerating how bad it actually is. It’s still the best monitor on the market IMO.

    • @thedisplayguy
      @thedisplayguy  5 місяців тому +18

If I thought it “wasn’t that bad” I wouldn’t risk destroying the monitor to buff it out. It looks really bad, and it’s easily noticeable at any reasonable viewing distance. I can even spot the grain across my room.
I also heavily disagree that it’s the best monitor. Aside from the grainy coating it has a number of firmware issues I would consider to be pretty severe.
The QD OLED options right now are superior in almost every way minus ambient light handling.

There always seems to be this thing monitor manufacturers do to destroy a good monitor. Almost all monitors I saw over the last decades have had some kind of dealbreaker for me. It's like they do it on purpose. You see the perfect monitor: and then it's CURVED. Then you see another perfect monitor: and then it has a grainy coating. Then another great monitor: no, it has non-standard RGB so text is hard to read. Or burn-in. Or price far too high.

As the owner of a glossy LG OLED TV, I sure as heck do not want a monitor like that. I love the TV but it's basically unusable during the day unless I close all my curtains. Not sure how bad the matte really is but I refuse to buy that LG OLED monitor because it has a fan. Hopefully something comes out which improves upon the current 32" 4K OLED options.

    • @Skylancer727

From my experience whether matte or not, if there's windows in the room they should never face it. My current system does as there's not really anywhere else good to put it with power, and even though I have matte coatings you easily see the glare and completely ruins blacks. I basically leave the blackout curtains in the room closed all the time because of it.
Basically the difference between them is, do you prefer sharp glares or your entire screen having lifted blacks. To me sharp glares are far easier to ignore much like how many phones today have holes punched into them. Not everyone views it the same like how people grow used to looking at something at lower resolutions and stop noticing the loss. You will get used to it eventually, but I personally don't want to go through that.

I respectfully disagree. I’m a proud owner of my LG C2 42, and its coating is the only reason why I haven’t upgraded to a “proper” monitor yet. I understand that not everyone’s rooms are light-controlled, but for my use case of late-night gaming, it’s absolutely perfect.

Did you really need to wet sand it off? I remember soaking wet paper towels on a VG248QE for 6 hours which weakened the adhesive for the matte coating and I was able to just peel it off exposing the polarizer layer and making the monitor glossy that way.

@@interceptor001 They add them for reflections. Some people can’t handle a single reflection on a screen of any size. While a lot could care less about reflections like me. Company’s need to offer a matte and glossy version. It would fix the panel coating wars instantly. And I removed it with a razer blade and a lot of patience and time. There is the wet paper towel trick that’s been around for a long time. Buffering it is the dumbest way of doing this because it doesn’t actually remove it and a extremely high risk of melting the panel under the film.
