Finding BIG gold with the Fisher Gold Bug 2 - Dredge Tailing Pile two pound Nugget/Specimen!

  • On a recent prospecting trip up in the northwest, I find a whopper of a nugget, weighing 660 grams which is just 2.5 ounces shy of 2 Troy Pounds. The metal detector of choice for this trip was my high 71 kHz Fisher Gold Bug II. This VLF (very low frequency) type detector is the perfect choice for hunting these remote tailing piles because it's light, fast, and has amazing Iron ID capabilities.
    After running two different specific gravity tests to find the actual amount of gold in this discovery, the total gold content is 10.83 ounces.

    I have known Gerry for many years, seen his skills and exceptional detecting classes. I have always maintained that Gerry could find gold in a bucket of sand... He is GREAT! No, this is NOT a commercial! ~LARGO~

    On the old dredges, there used to be a guy on either side of the stacker line with a bucket between his legs. It was his job to grab the big ones that came out of the dredges trommel and place them in the bucket. Sometimes they came too fast and they missed a few, sometimes they were still covered with mud and they missed those.

    I don't usually place random chunks of gold that look like rocks in random spots but I must say you found the one gold rock I placed in the only spot I would place any gold rock and now I think its time you return what is not rightfully mine back to you this instant.

    Hi guys. I intend to do my detecting work in Zimbabwe, southern Africa and was wondering what the best gold detector you recommend for nuggets is? Ideally also one we can use to find a gold belt for proper mining after. Thanks

  • @Shyguyexplores
    @Shyguyexplores 6 років тому

    Gerry how many karats was this nugget? Was it 24K solid gold? When I saw it said it weighs almost 2 pounds, I figured it was worth about $40,000 but maybe more because if its large size. There are collectors who will pay more than spot gold for a nugget which is unusually large.

      Ground balance,then set to high mineralization,if thehot ground is still a problem then switch to discrimination .
      Hot rocks will popand click but only nin ferrous targets will beep.
      There's zero threshold in discriminate mode
