- This weekend, I presented at UC Irvine's Honor's Conference on Christine de Pizan, the first known professional female writer in Europe! Originally, I was not going to share this on my channel then had various questions about it, so here we are. I know this is not the "usual" upload... whatever that means, however, I think there is a harmful religious aspect to this phenomenal woman's story. The fact that in the Medieval Ages, women were so looked down upon and did not have access to books or even an education as Pisan did, gave her an advantage to think critically about what philosophers and poets of that time period thought of women. It was also a starting place for her to build an allegorical city to uplift women. Christine was an early feminist before there was even a word for that.
In honor of Women's History Month, I give you Christine de Pizan and her Book of the City of Ladies! Which, I recommend too if you're looking for something fascinating to add to your TBR list!

She was born in Italy- her father was a doctor in Italy and was called by the king of France- she was of italian culture.
Exactly. She was 100% Italian. Her real name was Cristina Da Pizzano, later "frenchised" in Christine de Pizan .Her father Tommaso Da Pizzano was a medical doctor and astrologer educated at the prestigious University of Bologna. Cristina moved to France as an infant with her family when her father Tommaso was asked by the king of France to become the court physician.

Then much later came Clara Schumann, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie

I see a lot of her in you - your ability to challenge flawed conclusions about yourself and the world and come to your own rational conclusions.
She did a lot for women, but when we look at her way of thinking it was way different from feminism. Feminism is based on deism or even secularism.
The way of thinking of this woman is based on a theistic world view.
Her world view is based around religion. Deism and secularism on the other hand are empty, so that they have room for ideologies like feminism.
The whole thing is like calling St. Francis a Socialist, because he cared for the poor.
It's just not correct.
I want to learn French so that I may contemplate her true meanings,..
