AMAZING GRACES - Christine de Pisan, the first feminist

  • Christine de Pizan (or Pisan) (c.1364 - c.1430) wrote both poetry and prose, and was one of the first authors, male or female, to have been paid for her work, making her one of the very few people at the time to make a living from writing.
    She challenged the church, the state and the treatment of women. Indeed, some scholars argue that she can be seen as an early feminist, using language to convey the important role that women play in society.
    But after a very prolific writing career, why did Christine suddenly stop writing 12 years before her death?
