This is soooo under-rated. Super helpful and down-to-earth advices from a seasoned PM. I really appreciate it, Jason. Thank you for building this community, and I am a fan. :)
Good afternoon, Yesterday I had a recruitment interview for the position of junior project manager. I watched your videos on UA-cam a few times and they were very helpful. today I received cooperation offers. Thank you very much ;)
Thank you very much for this information. I've been working for PM position for 3 months (and i've never worked in IT and as a manager) and i wish i found this video earlier. And hello from Russia :)
Hello Jason, you are so brilliant! Not only your wonderful advice and presentations, you exude a calm and positive air. Hope you and all your family keep well and safe. Thank you for sharing.
I must have watched this video five or six times. I've had a few interviews over the last four months, but my biggest one being on April 24th with a top 50 firm. Review notes and prepare for tomorrow.
I had not considered that, but the position must be a good fit for you. Following the interview, I went to the building to speak with the hiring manager. My first thought was: I do not want this job! They called me last week with an offer, which I turned down. I was so unhappy at my last work and don't want that life anymore. Got another interview today at 1pm EST re-watching the video again
Surely you know what are talking about. Contrary to most videos, No fluffy stuff, no bs - Glad I've found you. One more member of your community. Subscribed :)
So glad to see your channel running back! I was amazed by the similarities in our thought process, every time you asked a question, I answered on similar lines. It makes me feel confident about myself. Thank you :)
@@PMPerspective I am leaving the business field in which I have spent the last 13 years, telecom. I'm currently looking for an IT Project Manager position with a non-telecom organization. To answer your question, no, I have not yet received a job offer because the procedure involves three interviews. I'm on my third interview today at 1 p.m. ET. The two most useful questions and responses from the interview were about soft skills and team motivation. Thanks Jason
This should not be a free video. People should spend money to hear this. Infact, nobody should get a chance to hear this after I am done. This is that good!
I really like this episode, the most comprehensive explanation of a PM interview i ever see, congratulations you have won a true follower in me, im currently preparing myself for Canada job´s interviews and this was pure inspirational - Greetings from Yucatan Mexico!!!
Great outline about bringing everybody in to get commitments. I would say in the modern environment it is the best way to engage people and to stick with an idea of getting things done.
Very good advice. Lack of knowledge can sometimes be a humbling experience, but acquiring it in a trusted environment from a credible and respectable source is motivating.
John from Greece . Again Another question . Is it better in the beginning to master Primavera or go with the Ms project planner .Or maybe there is another program ? Thnk you .
different companies prefer different tools, so there is no golden rule which one to master. I would say, initially you need to understand the principles of how the project management / task tracking tools work and how to manipulate with them. This will help to catch up quickly on any tool the company is up for. And to increase the confidence, you could look for the top 5 - 10 tools in the market today and to go into the free trials to study them. When you understand the main principles, you could pick one or two to master them deeper
Really helpful advice to prep for a job interview. I'm wondering if you would have any particular considerations for a second round interview at executive level.
I really really am inspired after watching this video. Very clear cut explanations and expectations. What if the PMP holder is not experienced in project management but have some 6 years of experience in Business Analysis and Customer experience? How to enter into PM jobs with a PMP certification in that case??
I seem to be having a problem with the narcissistic people, typically Head of PMO / Hiring Managers / VP's etc. These people have become far worse in their attitude in the last 10-15 years, than ever before. I have 43 years as a successful Project Manager, I have half a dozen patents, and have made companies literally millions of dollars, and customer awards to go with it. One interview, the very first thing the head of PMO said was, "I don't consider you a Project Manager", this was before we even spoke! Another one, the first thing he asked was, "Tell me what year you graduated college", you can guess how that went. And a recruiter said, you have too much experience, I don't know what this stuff means, can you remove about half of it from your resume.....
I'm sorry to hear about these challenging situations. I'm hearing stories like this more often than I'd like. I'm finding that the latest generation of PMO leadership has little real-world experience leading change.
I've been playing around with the times. I work full time, like many in my audience, and it'd be hard for me to guarantee that I'd be available during working hours... But I'm happy to play around with time slots before and after working hours...
I have my ACP. Should I wait until 2021 for my PMP? It seems if I go for my PMP now, I may just be wasting my time learning outdated material and methodologies. Agile resonates with my much more that waterfall but I want to make sure I’m well rounded. Thanks for your input.
hey, if you mean that in 2021 they are doing to launch the new PMBOK guide and you expect that there will be something significantly different, we need to remember this could also could cause other changes. And this could be changes in the studying and exam processes. I would say, until that time there are many confirmed materials available, courses and approached to pass the test. Also, if there would be absolutely new methodologies in the world, do you thinks that the institute would take them in the exam until they are tested and confirmed. I have passed the PMP a couple of years ago and since that time what I have studied for the test is more than relevant and applicable. What is more, when you are a PMP this means you are dedicated to your professional path. Similar to the ACP you will need to maintain your certification by learning and updating your knowledge in Project Management. Therefore, if you feel you are ready and you need the PMP, and if you pass the exam now, you will always have a chance to catch up on any new methodologies that will be introduced to the world 🙂
Kristina Kushner thanks for the feedback and insight. Not surprisingly, many with experience have suggested the same. I’m now working towards a June PMP exam. Thanks!
How do you define success for a project, and what metrics do you use to measure it? Was asked this on interview last week ; my answer was Cost , Schedule and Scope baseline are meant during monitor and control
Thank you for your very informative information! I'm wondering if it's acceptable to take my notes to the interview and take a short look on and read from it? What else they might ask in the Project Management interview? Could you please share? Thank uou very much!
This was great. I followed all the streaming and unfortunately I had a question but it was the last question before you finish and it was not answered. Can you please check it and answer me. Thanks
I am a scrum master with 6 years of experience. I am starting to see more agile project manager positions. I am involved in project management meetings all the time. Do you advise scrum masters to get project management certified to get that knowledge? I realize it is not a typical responsibility of a SM but wondering your thoughts of getting PM knowledge.
Hey, I'm a high school senior in California and was wondering if there was a way I could get into contact with you, you seem like an educated individual and this seems like a career field I'm interested in.
This was very helpful. Thank you. Please continue making videos. These were super helpful. I loved your peptalk and used it in my interview, and interviewer loved that comment.
I'm a mid-level experienced 'IT Infrastructure Project Manager'. Please discuss about commonly asked Project Manager Interview questions and how we can answer in real time world. Not theoretical answers
Hello! I have been following you for a while and wanted to ask your opinion on my current path. I’ve had a similar life experience to yours. I wanted to finish an actual degree and pursue my career in PM. I am currently enrolled in college for an Associate Degree of Aplied Science in Project Management Technology . My plans are to finish this degree in 1 year and then get my CAPM certification. Is is this a viable path to succeed in PM? I keep reading that Associate degrees don’t help at all. I would really appreciate your input. Thank you for everything you do!
Laura, if is still relevant, every education you get is great and beneficial. I would continue in your specialization and industry you study and find company where it apply. Build PM basic skills: technical applications (method and tools), leadership and project accomplishments skills. Good luck in your path. 😉
I seen your videos and all and I am really interested in product management course but I have no idea about the job opportunities of this field also I have admission from sault college Ontario should I go for it ?can you please tell me the job opportunities for product management?

Could y help me with the following questions please? 1)You are the new project manager, how introduce yourself in the first meeting? 2) What will be the words in the kickoff meeting? 3) Management of cross-funcional teams and it’s meeting?

Where there any pieces of advice, in particular, that helped you to connect with the interviewer(s)?
