    The triangle sounds surprisingly good for not being tuned

    • @Anvil_knocker
      @Anvil_knocker  6 місяців тому +19

      I know, I do wish I had a better tuner so that I could see what it actually was.

      @@Anvil_knockerbells have TONS of overtones. I think it might be something similar here. You’ll probably just have to compare its sound to something already in tune and match it up.

      You have to tune a triangle i just use a speed square

      How do you tune a triangle? Grind it away?

  • @goldenstarmusic1689

    If you are wondering about the pitch of the triangle, there's multiple harmonics in there that give a pretty dense sound. However I can tell you the root note is probably D, with upper harmonics like A notes in there. Best of my absolute pitch ability here but you did a great job! I love how rich it sounds.

      @picklerickshaw 5 місяців тому +1

      For those who don’t know what absolute pitch is: it’s the ability to have notes memorized, which, to me, is the most impressive thing for a musician in general. There might be more impressive things for specific instruments, but god damn, it’s damn near impossible to get absolute pitch. Trust me, I’ve tried to train for relative pitch (knowing notes in relation to each other, which, if combined with having a note memorized, is makeshift absolute pitch), and that’s hard enough
      Props to this guy for sure, even if it’s a genetic thing

      Thank you so much! Although I don’t know if I can consider what I do music… Other than the metronome of the hammer and anvil

    I for one like I like it when somebody talks about their craft where they're doing their work.

      Thank you! I’ve never liked the videos where they just put music over it through the whole thing

    the "spirales" on the ends of the triangle and the uneven sides make it sound on three simmilar but different frequencies at once. that's the reason, why your tunerapp can't lock onto one of them. nontheless it sounds cool and unique. :)

    • @Anvil_knocker
      @Anvil_knocker  6 місяців тому +13

      I didn’t think about how the spirals being different sizes would mess up the tuning, I was mostly just thinking it would look cool. But you make a very good point, I bet it’s multi phonic

    The cowbell brings me back to ski racing days 😌

    • @Anvil_knocker
      @Anvil_knocker  6 місяців тому +1

      I’ve heard that people ring cowbell instead of clapping while racers are going down the hill, I wonder what cultural aspects influence that

    1.31... you really showed you got the balls to do this kind of work lmfao

    • @Anvil_knocker
      @Anvil_knocker  6 місяців тому +6

      In that particular scenario, a lack of balls would’ve been preferable…

    Ça c'est bon!! ⚜️ I'm a Cajun Musician and play the triangle (the "Petit Frére) as 1 of my percussive instruments. There's a specific technique. Not a dinner bell 🤣 Looks & sounds great. Great work! 🔥

    Percussionist here!! I absolutely love this!! Here are more detailed thoughts on the long form video that people should go watch!!!
    I FREAKING LOVE TRIANGLE. IT'S SO AMAZING AND ALSO SO ANNOYING TO PLAY. LIKE CONSTANTLY TRYING TO STRANGLE A SLOWLY SPINNING SNAKE. IT'S THE BEST.
    He did a really good job with it too! I agree with one comment that the different sized spirals are probably affecting the tone/pitch. However, triangles also just Be Like That™
    Different side lengths, metal thickness, as well as beater thickness all change the sounds in varying ways. Larger sides, deeper sound. (We had a giant triangle that was like, almost a foot on each side. Loved that ugly ass Bass Triangle. Sounded like shit lmao.)
    For professional concert purposes, it would not be up to standards. But for loud noise to ring for dinner? He killed it!! Amazing job 🧡
    now
    Cowbell
    Bigger is better in my opinion. And to get that deeper sorta **clunk** noise, he'd need a bigger base. That is usually more for the instrument side i believe, as you also want room for it to resonate more and space between your hand and the stick. Cause holy cow (bell) it *hurts* hitting yourself with a drum stick. Especially a marching stick. *shudders.*
    But
    Again, for his purposes, as well as one for actually being on a cow with the "jangly bits", i think he did a wonderful job. Very happy noise for a happy video!
    Thank you for sharing your joy and may your next project go smoothly and ring true 🧡

    Now I wonder whether it makes a noticable difference in the triangles sound when you do/do not harden it.

  • @zaxolotl

    This is a really cool video :D The triangle sounds very cool and looks beautiful
    If you want an idea for a simple-ish metal instrument you could make that would make different notes, you could try to make a kalimba (thumb piano)!! though i think you need some kind of body for acoustics, and most are wood, it would be cool to see you make something less percussive and more melodic!
    Another metal instrument idea is a tongue drum, but i think they are much more complicated/hard to create because they are rounded (but i adore the sound they make)

    It doesnt play one note, it plays notes and overtones, especially since you've got those loops at the top. Each side is going to ring differently, as well as the loops

    The triangles pitch is very close to A, with a slight micro tone, which i cannot pinpoint.
