Congrats on finally getting this one to the finish line. I know I'm excited to dive back into the Dragon Age universe and I hope that it does very well for Bioware.
Congrats to the whole team on the milestone! No creative project is ever as easy to make as it might appear on the surface, and I'm sure that given how complex game-dev looks on the surface, the reality is a byzantine rat's-nest that manages to produce the games we enjoy so much through sheer force of will, talent and coordinated commitment. Hope you all can take some time to step away from the rest of the race to the finish line (e.g. stomping out bugs and polishing for the early/day-one patch, if there is one) and relish the accomplishment; you've certainly more than earned it.
Thanks Mark, this was great. 'Going Gold' has always seemed an enigma to me. (just picked up an 'Enigma of Kirkwall' in DA2 - still playing that wonderful and incredibly underrated game :) Blessings.
Since most devs have moved on to different projects by the time the game is released, is the release day a pretty low-key day around the office? Is the gold announcement a bigger celebration day for the team than anything else?
I'm honestly not sure. There is something powerful about it actually being in stores The EP is busy through launch (and beyond) so I honestly was too distracted to notice :)
maybe bioware finds some golden discs from the past in a shelf somewhere, prints them again, plays them, recognizes how good the titles were for its time, where the strongpoints have been and why these titles were so attraktive to players and where bioware has lost the track and finds back to it's "golden" roots. this would be really "GOLD"
My mind is still boggled that after 10 years the next game is finally nearly here! Thank you for explaining what it means! I just thought it was just an informal thing to say that it's ready to be shipped but knowing that it was an actual thing and was an actual certification just goes to show how little I know about game dev! I know that it's not as simple as copy pasting the code of the CC and then launching it, but as someone who has insight to how things work behind the scenes, would you be able to tell us how likely or unlikely it would be for us to see the Character Creator before the game launches?

Old Fan here. To be honest, I am somewhat skeptical. It is good to see that this story arc will finally be concluded, and I will play the game. However, I am one of those old fans who think things have been going overall downhill since DAO. Every DA game after DAO also had its virtues. DA2 had a good premise, story structure and story elements, but it came a high cost in player freedom. DAI looked beautiful and had lots of nice exploration, though too much filler content and a lackluster story, albeit with really memorable moments. But all of my favorite characters and themes are from DAO, and of all the games DAO's combat is the only one I liked at all. I am also very much disappointed that some of the decisions from earlier game relating to to the big picture will not be imported into DATV, especially since decisions regarding romance, which I consider largely irrelevant, *will* be imported. My attitude to the stories of DA was always that the world is the true protagonist. Our characters, as important as they are to us as players, are largely irrelevant in the larger scheme of things. Apart from those decisions they make that directly impact the world, who they are does not matter. We shall see if I can play the new game with such an attitude, and come away from the story satisfied.
I preordered it already on PS5. It looks amazing and it’s been far too long without Dragon Age. I’m also going to gift a Steam copy to a friend just to spite all of the weirdos boycotting the game. Looking forward to it!
I've been waiting for Veilguard since 2015, so I cannot overstate how happy I was when the news hit that the game had gone gold. It'll still be years until I can play it, since I need a new PC to run the game, but the game will be there whenever that happens so I have that to look forward to in the future.
Thank you for the insight, Mark! I'm very excited, and slightly anxious, to get my hands on the game! I assume you're going to be playing it as well? Have you given any thought to what race/class/background you might choose?
This is the most anxious I've been for a game release in a very very long time. DA is my favorite game series ever and all I want is another amazing game.
Would you say that nvidia 4090 graphics card and 128 gigabytes of ram is overkill for dragon age the veilguard. True fact this computer is the first first computer i have ever built.
@@MarkDarrah it took me year to get all the parts for the computer. I originally had a 3080ti. But that died on me less than a year. Rather than dealing with gigabyte customer support. I ordered a 4090 which is from MSI.
I’ve seen way too many hate videos on this game such as it’s too woke, it’s not like origins, and only 3 choices will crossover (which I know most of us were disappointed in) but you know what, I’m still excited for it. It’s in the same fantasy universe that I enjoyed in the past three games.
I will fully admit I was spending the entire time trying to see what that last word was on your shirt (while also listening intently!), so I had to laugh at myself when you deliberately showed it. I am super excited that it's finally time for DATV to come out. I've been a Bioware fan since the BG days, and have played (almost) every game made since then, so the wait for a new game to dig into has been long, to say the least. Everything they've shown of the game so far has hyped me up, too! I honestly think it's going to be really good, so I wish there was a time machine to skip forward the next few weeks. lol
Congratulations sir been a fan since origins Release date. The da team seems to go through trials since Exodus. Yet no matter what dragon age games always leave me satisfied. All Accolades to DA team 👏🏿🍻

@@MarkDarrah That is both good and sad to hear. It means we can maybe get a behind the scenes video on the previous version(unless you are legally not allowed to do it, I dont know how these things are handled for unreleased games) but not on the current version unless some of the lead devs decide to open a youtube channel down the line.
first of all congrats for the game getting gold and finally come out soon after all this time! thanks for the insights and couple of explanations. even not totally into the lore and books i still follow DA since origins and i REALLY like many brave, creative and innovative decisions which are made for Veilguard. (the biggest since origins IMHO) but i also have a few concerns (and no, not cause of the really "out of touch" reveal trailer): 1.even it looks fun, will combat get too overloaded with effects? 2. will partymembers do recognisable dmg to enemies during fights? (i dond't want to be the only dmg dealer, especially if there are no controlable partymembers anymore which i personally dearly miss...) 3. can i - hopefully - disanle the sparkling effects during navigating in the interface? (i think the interface itself looks really good and i fortunately don't have anything against purple its just the sparkling and too many effects for me personally) 4. can i disable the many "helping/interaction icons"? i really hope so cause i really think they are not needed in general from what i saw footage wise. 5. i really hope we have some great melancholic track guiding is through the game like primarily origins did. but the revealed track of hans zimmer gave me hope. it sounded really nice. about what other games i am personally looking for. to be honest Veilguard will be the last game this year i am looking forward to and there were quite some nice games this year.
@@MarkDarrah oh. thx for the response anyway! i just wanted to point this out cause beside the companion dmg the game really doesn't need the hole sparkly stuff and also not the "holding the players hand" that much. just constructive criticism. nothing else to complain from what i saw. really like the rest :) keep it up
I remember when Cyberpunk went gold then 3 weeks before launch they delayed the game 3 months lmao...or something like that. They delayed the game after gold status.
I hope their initial sales expectations factor in many people today wait long after their initial release to buy the game because today's games routinely need multiple patchings.
There is so much pressure on Bioware since DA4 has been cooking for 10 years. In hindsight, do you wish Bioware's leadership team would have stuck to its guns, not give in to corporate pressures, and had just finished off the chapter of DA4, five years ago? That you had just built on what was already done, prioritized fan wants, fine-tuned gameplay mechanics, delivered a tight and satisfying story, all while introducing the latest graphical tech advancements for the time? I can only surmise that DA4 released in 2019 would have done, at minimum, the same numbers for sales as Inquisition and probably much more due to it being a story conclusion. This current release could have been for DA5 and an expected reboot easily justified to fans. As it stands now expectations are so high on every front, do you wish this was the release of DA5 instead of DA4 or can you confidently say it needed this much time to develop into the game that it is?
@@MarkDarrah I'm guessing it had to do, at least in part, with Anthem sucking a lot of the DA team's manpower into finishing it's game. It's too bad that that investment had such a massive negative impact on the company.
I really like you quite a bit Mark, and I have been a HUGE fan of the DA series since the beginning. I was VERY EXCITED to play DAV! Extremely! When I heard they had removed world states, it absolutely killed my enthusiasm for DAV. Killed it DEAD! Being able to shape parts of the narrative across 3 games connected me to the story in a much more personal way. It was MY story, in a sense. DAV might be a good game, but it can never feel like MY story since what I crafted, however great or small, has been completely removed, leaving behind a default world state that will more than likely feel alien to me. 3 choices can hardly reflect the story I felt connected to. For that reason, I simply cannot play DAV.
I’m still undecided on whether to buy. I don’t even want to play the first three anymore for hype/experiencing the story before the new game. I don’t know if they realize how this controversy and (more specifically) their responses to it have made a lot of big fans not want to support this company anymore. I’d like more dragon age but I’d also like to be respected as a consumer and it unfortunately seems like I’m going to have to choose between those.
Very excited to play. Ive been a fan since high school. I went crazy when I learned this takes place in North Thedas cause thats all i wanted for DA4. Dream come true!
Thanks, Mark! I was a little confused on went gone gold meant. :) 13 days till DAV! I can't wait to see what BW has cooked up for my favorite franchise! 🎉
I know you’re probably sick of people talking about the world state thing but do you think anything could be done in the future in an update that adds a few more da:I questions and adjusts/adds codex? Or is that for the modders? It was always the little things to me that mattered.
BioWare for once picked the perfect release window, basically every competitor or major release has been postponed to 2025 (Avowed, Kingdom come 2, AC: Shadows), so Dragon Age can really rule the Holidays. Though maybe on the downside it is just speculation, but it is maybe a little bit unfortunate that it lands on the american elections, as culture warriors are going extra loud these days (as also seen in this comment section), that might make a dent on sales (or maybe not)
As long as the disk contains the full game and is playable off the disk then fine. There are plenty of games like final fantasy 7 rebirth and baldurs gate 3 that are playable off the disk without updates. If this game is the same then great news. Needing internet to download the game is a stupid practice that i hate. Its incredibly anti consumer and horrible for game preservation. Plus the ps5 disks can hold up to 100gb so the full game can be optimized and compressed onto it no problem. Hopefully DATV is the same. Wpuld also be nice if its playable without the need for a day 1 patch.🙏 I understand updates fix issues and such. But i dont mind not downloading the patch and playing the 1.0 version if its mostly bug free.

The version listed in the system requirements was to fix a common stuttering issue in Windows 11, so if you haven't experienced that, no need to worry.

Thank you for explaining all this! Omg... Dragon Age The Veilguard is so close now!! After 10 years... finally!! 😭
So close!
Is it normal for the "final disc" to be pressed less than a month before release? It seems like cutting it very close.
Yup. Pretty much.
No one wants stuff sitting in warehouses these days
@@MarkDarrah Warehouse space costs money for storage, I suppose. Every little cent counts.
Congrats on finally getting this one to the finish line. I know I'm excited to dive back into the Dragon Age universe and I hope that it does very well for Bioware.
Hope you enjoy it!
Congrats. I am looking forward to playing it!

(just picked up an 'Enigma of Kirkwall' in DA2 - still playing that wonderful and incredibly underrated game :) Blessings.

maybe bioware finds some golden discs from the past in a shelf somewhere, prints them again, plays them, recognizes how good the titles were for its time, where the strongpoints have been and why these titles were so attraktive to players and where bioware has lost the track and finds back to it's "golden" roots.
this would be really "GOLD"
… not the point of the video at all.
My mind is still boggled that after 10 years the next game is finally nearly here! This time 10 years ago I was thinking about who my Inquisitor would be and presumably using the Keep to confirm my world state and stuff (maybe not, Inquisition was November so not sure how long before the Keep existed)
I don't remember when the Keep came out either
And now the keep is irrelevant, and your choices do not matter in the slightest, still feeling good about it?
@@connernickerson5509 Yeah I'm still really looking forward to the game even though it doesn't carry over as many choices as I want.
I will be playing, thank you so much for this game! Especially after 10 years! DA accompanied me through countless hours and let me forget the bad parts of life. Ignore the haters and keep up the good work!

How does it feel for the game to be so close to the public now? After having DA4 rebooted 2 times

I'm waiting for October 31st. I'm super excited for this Dragon Age. And I hope to play Silent Hill 2 as well. Both great games.
On the other hand, I'd like to know your thoughts on Cyberpunk when it came out. I know that now it is a completely different game but based on your graph shown in the video, how to categorize it or would the market demand come into play?
My best guess is that they made something that passed cert but planned a big patch

Regarding, the Veilguard, I personally wait until reviews come out for games, and the same will apply to DAV. That said, I hope the lore of the franchise is respected.
Waiting for reviews isn't a bad idea for anything you are spending money on
But what about the world states sir why would they do that

Is the game going to have denuvo?
I don’t actually know
@@MarkDarrah one of the reasons they gave for not using the keep anymore is that the game doesn't connect to the internet and is completely offline.
So now if they put in denuvo, that'll be heart breaking.
Always a pleasure to listen to you explain the intricacies, Mr. Darrah. Also a trip to see my friend's name pop up on your members list, I'm glad he's contributing to the cause! Thank you again.

Thank you for explaining what it means! I just thought it was just an informal thing to say that it's ready to be shipped but knowing that it was an actual thing and was an actual certification just goes to show how little I know about game dev!
On a somewhat related note, with DA:TV having gone gold, in your personal opinion do you think Bioware would still have time to be able to put up Early Access to the character creator? I know that it's not as simple as copy pasting the code of the CC and then launching it, but as someone who has insight to how things work behind the scenes, would you be able to tell us how likely or unlikely it would be for us to see the Character Creator before the game launches?
That’s a question for them
Omg!!!! Congratulations to the team for their hard work to make it to the finish line!!! 🎉🎉🎉. Congratulations to us fans who will soon get this amazing game to play on a little over 3 WEEKS!!!
Soon

It is losing any attachment to reality as time goes on...

You all are mental this game is going to be garbage.
@Billyitsangel2 why are you here?
Would you say that nvidia 4090 graphics card and 128 gigabytes of ram is overkill for dragon age the veilguard. True fact this computer is the first first computer i have ever built.
You can never have too much power!

I honestly think it's going to be really good, so I wish there was a time machine to skip forward the next few weeks. lol

If it is okay to ask, how different current version of the game is compared to what you worked on until your departure?
Pretty different.
(the biggest since origins IMHO) but i also have a few concerns (and no, not cause of the really "out of touch" reveal trailer):
1.even it looks fun, will combat get too overloaded with effects?
2. will partymembers do recognisable dmg to enemies during fights? (i dond't want to be the only dmg dealer, especially if there are no controlable partymembers anymore which i personally dearly miss...)
3. can i - hopefully - disanle the sparkling effects during navigating in the interface? (i think the interface itself looks really good and i fortunately don't have anything against purple its just the sparkling and too many effects for me personally)
4. can i disable the many "helping/interaction icons"? i really hope so cause i really think they are not needed in general from what i saw footage wise.
5. i really hope we have some great melancholic track guiding is through the game like primarily origins did. but the revealed track of hans zimmer gave me hope. it sounded really nice.
about what other games i am personally looking for. to be honest Veilguard will be the last game this year i am looking forward to and there were quite some nice games this year.
I don't know the answers to most of these. I think BioWare has started showing some of the options which may answer #3 and #4
@@MarkDarrah oh. thx for the response anyway! i just wanted to point this out cause beside the companion dmg the game really doesn't need the hole sparkly stuff and also not the "holding the players hand" that much. just constructive criticism. nothing else to complain from what i saw. really like the rest :) keep it up
Yay! Congratulations to the team! That's really awesome. ^^

I remember when Cyberpunk went gold then 3 weeks before launch they delayed the game 3 months lmao...or something like that. They delayed the game after gold status.
Yeah… I suspect the patch went sideways

That wasn't possible to do. We'll talk about why eventually.
Fair enough

You never know but I wouldn't expect so
BioWare for once picked the perfect release window, basically every competitor or major release has been postponed to 2025 (Avowed, Kingdom come 2, AC: Shadows), so Dragon Age can really rule the Holidays. Though maybe on the downside it is just speculation, but it is maybe a little bit unfortunate that it lands on the american elections, as culture warriors are going extra loud these days (as also seen in this comment section), that might make a dent on sales (or maybe not)
I would be curious what effect the big election cycles have… DAI was midterms

As long as the disk contains the full game and is playable off the disk then fine. There are plenty of games like final fantasy 7 rebirth and baldurs gate 3 that are playable off the disk without updates. If this game is the same then great news. Needing internet to download the game is a stupid practice that i hate. Its incredibly anti consumer and horrible for game preservation. Plus the ps5 disks can hold up to 100gb so the full game can be optimized and compressed onto it no problem. Hopefully DATV is the same. Wpuld also be nice if its playable without the need for a day 1 patch.🙏
I understand updates fix issues and such. But i dont mind not downloading the patch and playing the 1.0 version if its mostly bug free.
