  • This is one of my favorite movie scenes of all time and the fact that I had the same gun they used in the movie, I just had to give it a shot. Needless to say... It's a lot harder than it looks. Let me know if you want to see Part 2.

It’s a pretty remarkable shot. 1 MOA at 1,000 yards is ten inches. That can at a mile requites about .5 MOA accuracy in strong wind. Training is important but if he used a kestrel and hand-loads, that would have given him a much bigger advantage than that very expensive rifle.

I have a camera made by SME (Shooting Made Easy) that you put down at the target. It broadcasts a wifi signal up to a mile line of sight that links to a phone or laptop. When you shoot the software makes a comparison of the previous target and will highlight the difference to show where you hit. I have used mine out to 600 yards no problem. I think it would be perfect for your application.

I would have liked to see a paper zero on the rifle. Cheytac advertises the M200 intervention to be a sub MOA rifle and according to literature online, the average M200 is capable of a minimum of 1/2 MOA groups while some specially tuned rifles have achieved 1/4 MOA or even better. Having an idea of the rifles actual capabilities would give a more realistic understanding of what you are trying to do and put into perspective just how difficult this shot realistically is.
As any shooter worth his salt would already know a rifle shooting 1 MOA (which is considered to be a fairly decent rifle for most applications) is going to be printing a 10 inch group at 1000 yards. A 15oz can of Dinty Moore is 2.87 inches wide by 4.37 inches tall.
So at 1000 yards with a 1 MOA rifle you could completely miss the can by more then 3.5 inches on either side or more then 2.75 inches above or below doing everything perfectly and have no recorse other then to just keep keep throwing lead down range and waiting for a lucky hit because a 10 inch group is the best the rifle is capable of.
(I know moa is a conical circumference not squared but for illustrative purposes it gives an easier mental picture to none shooters to follow along with the example)
Stretch that 1 MOA rifle out to a mile and your looking at a group that's printing a hair under 53 inches (again a Dinty Moore stew can in 2.87"wide x 4.37" tall) the odds of hitting a target that small at that range INTENTIONALLY are astronomical at best. The round can definitely get there no problem but the factual ballistic capabilities of the rifle make this shot literally impossible to make as a one off intentional act. Sure if you keep throwing lead down range you'll hit it eventually, but not because it was on purpose or intentional but simply because the target was within the rifles accuracy margin.
Even if you cut the MOA of the rifle down to its "advertised" accuracy of 1/2 MOA your still looking at a print group of just over 5 inches at 1000 yards which gives you a much better chance of punching a hole in it but there is still a margin of error that you couldn't correct for even if you did everything right and still continue to miss. But then at a mile you'd still be looking at a target print group of 26+ inches again taking this back into a shot that isn't capable of being made on purpose intentionally or repeatedly by anything other then blind luck.
If you continue to throw enough shots down range your bound to eventually connect with it once but it won't be because you ment to do it or could do it again on purpose or with any kind of consistency or dependability.
And to be clear I am in no way shape or form speaking negative about the shooters or their abilities or shooting skills, this is strictly a comment on the capabilities of the rifle alone and how insanly far beyond the the physical performance limits of the rifle you are trying to go in order to try and make this shot.
Hell if you took an actual literal laser that had a divergence of 1.2Mrad(which would be pretty good for a typical diode laser) and were to mount it to a tripod aim it at the Dinty Moore stew can one mile away and turn it on, by the time the laser made it to the can the beam would be covering a an area almost 10 feet square and that is coming from a laser beam that was just 1mm in diameter at its start.
If that doesn't illustrate the impossibility of this shot I don't know what will. By all means if it makes you happy to blast through ammunition at 175 bucks a box to try and hit something that if and when you do finally hit it will be purely by luck but go for it, but at 8.75 a shot......
I can think of better things that I'd rather be shooting at.
    🤷🏻‍♂️
But thats just me though, regardless I enjoyed the video and I sincerely appreciate you putting out the content and wish you the best of luck if you do continue with this goal so thanks again be safe and God bless 🙏.

Pay somebody to make you 1 mile long HDMI cable.
Set up a camera filming on a laptop set up next to the target a mile away.
Have the camera display full screen on the laptop next to the target.
Go to the display settings on the laptop and have the display duplicated and displaying on two monitors the laptop and the second monitor connected to the HDMI cord run the HDMI cord 1 mile to where you’re shooting from.
You will then be able to get a live view of what’s going on and the grouping is.
Another possible way is to buy a star link Internet, router, and set up a Samsung cell phone live streaming .
Watch the live stream from a another computer or phone. The only issue is most times live streams. Have a 2:59 minute delay so you will not be able to adjust for wind quick.

      @ShawnRector 2 дні тому

Sure zoom call is definitely a possibility, but that falls in the same category as live streaming to a service or a website.
If you have a camera set up, there’s no lag or delay.
There’s no telling where this property is at. And how far away the property is from cell phone towers.
If they’re conveniently is a strong signal nearby, and you can get full cell phone service then potentially zoom meeting stream could be a good option.
Clearly, I said that in the original comment get the Elon Musk Starlink service to have a good signal and set up a live stream. If you would’ve read the initial full comment. Hahaha
Hope this guy making the videos is not dumb enough to have a Apple product. that would be hilarious

I have milk jugs and 20oz’s hangin 520yrds from the porch and my fn spr .308 makes quick work of em long as you hold still. Hit a 5hr energy drink from 250yrds also which was a good shot for me. They make those big rifles out to be something ther not which is precision rifles like ai’s..rpa’s..and such. Btw how come you havnt tried rangemaster precision arms stuff..? May wanna look into 1

One thing thatll help next time is using an anti cant level just to make sure youre 100% level. Making sure all of your hardware is degreased and loctite to your scope and base and using a 2x2 splatter target behind the can to see impacts alot better. Or putting a colored light behind your steel plate to see impacts

Great video! Amazing how Mark Wahlberg did it so easily.
I’m poor. I have to impress myself by shooting 2” pill bottles at 200 yards with a .177 air rifle. Yep. Surprising what you can learn about long range shooting with a lowly air rifle. The rifle is an air Venturi avenger in .177 caliber. The rifle costs about as much as 2 box’s of his ammo. My ammo is $.04 per round. I use 12.5 grain NSA air rifle slugs sized to .173.
200 yards requires about same dope as a 6.5 Creedmore at 1150 yards. 11.1 mills is my 200 yard dope (50 yard zero). And I still had to use some holdover. Video is on my channel. Loved seeing this shot recreated. Seriously, air rifles at 200 yards and beyond give you all the same challenges (almost) as shooting centerfire at distance. Imagine your .6XX BC projectile had its BC reduced to .07. 2-3 mph full value winds can make things interesting. Great practice for learning to read wind. Any love the video! Cheers!

Weird question: no disrespect: I live in communist NY. When I did my will and trust I was told I could not give specific nugs to specific people. In your case, how does that work? When you are 110 and you leave earth how do they figure out who gets what ? Can I have this NUG. Cause that was super awesome. Morbid question I know, but I’m dead inside. Respectfully Jay.

You can hit at a mile with 6.5 but because it goes transonic before reaching the target makes it tough. I’ve done it before but I think it is more luck than anything. For a mile you’ll want to select a round that’s supersonic at a mile, imho
