Every Gait of a Horse, Animated
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- I needed to learn better cycles animation and the software , so I animated this horse as my private project.
Horses' have many gaits, some specific to the breed (ex: hackney trot) so there's a lot to breakdown, analyze and animate.
I also made few dressage figures, since I've never seen it animated before.
I put frame numbers for anyone who would want to break it down for personal animation. =)
Music is called 'The Melody of Chroniko' here: • Melody of Chroniko
ANIMATED IN MOHO PRO 12, DESIGNED IN ILLUSTRATOR
------------------------
To see additional files of how the rig works and other, see my page: alexgrzybowska...
Featuring these gaits:
Standard gaits: walk, fast walk, trot, canter, gallop, fast gallop, jump, rearing
Dressage figures: piaffe, passage, flying lead change
Special: idle, limping, spanish walk, pace, hackney trot, tired canter, prancing
'tired canter' aka every riding school pony ever
i love this but i literally got sad at the end when the horse fell doing the rear😢
He's fine. Just a bit embarassed =)
I Got scared when the Horse fell on it’s back after rearing.
Karlas Weird World same
Me
Victoria Anderson they do sometimes fall on their back if the lose balance. It is sad when it happens.
@Victoria Anderson lmao ive seen horses slip and fall and trip. You overestimate them. When they're focused, they are gorgeous animalz, but even they have clumsy moments.
Victoria Anderson they do not lol anything can happen u are such a idiot-_-
Woah, I was just doing a little research on horse skeletons and walk cycles and stuff when I found this. It really surprised me how neat this is. Sure, it doesn't show much for anatomy, but this is a great reference for walk cycles and the others you've done. Very nice! And so smooth!! I'll make sure to put this in my plans folder, thanks for doing this, it really helps. Can't believe you have so little attention for such a good thing you've got going. Amazing.
You have no idea how much it means for me! Thank you very much! I'm really glad it's helpful for somebody! I wrote number of frames for other animators; it's easier to break down.
As for the popularity... this channel is fairly new, I set it up to easily show people portfolio works. Maybe it will grow someday, because I'm constantly working on something, animating this and that. Who knows? =)
If you're interested more in anatomy than animation then I recommend this video (+ other in the series):

They were very helpful for this project.
Thanks again, share if you like and enjoy. I'm looking forward to hear from you in the comments =)
300 like great comment
READ BEFORE COMMENTING
I never seen a horse who behaves like a dog (Disney's Tangled) or a reindeer who also behaves like a dog (Frozen), yet these things are possible in animation. I never claimed I made a scientific video, 100%, absolutely realistic one. Even if a horse in real life can't walk on three legs, so what? This is a side project of mine, to learn spacing frames and timing and cycles because they are the most difficult to get right. I'm tired of people telling me about tolt and 'jump is not a gait', 'can't walk on three legs' crap. If you want real horses go watch real horses. I appreciate the insight but it's enough. You have to consider the fact that most people don't know all about horses, when they see a horse who can't stand on one leg they figure out that his leg is hurt and he is limping, AND THAT'S WHAT I WANTED TO TELL, nothing more. Animation -> communication
I called fast gallop FAST because it 's really intense 9 frames/second cycle in opposition to the more relaxed 15 frames one. JESUS I know gallop is the fasted gait!
I know it's hAckney not hOkney trot. It's a typo, deal with it.
Also hackney is a natural gait. Check the video of a hackney pony colt showing it.
For all the 'Spanish walk is abuse' 'passage is cruel' etc. This is a DRAWING, ok? How you handle your real-breathing horses is your business. Every horse is different, every trainer is different, some trainers are cruel, some are delicate, some horses like tricks and training some not. Of course I don't support abuse! Who in they right mind would support abusing an animal? Again this is a DRAWING. I can do with it whatever the hell I want with it. If I want him to walk on front legs, he will. Peace people. Grow up.
As for the anatomy... Yeah, not realistic right? And so what? Did you also notice that the mane is a solid block of colour and legs get thinner when they bend? The hoofs are triangles? Not realistic at all. GOOD. It's SIMPLIFIED. It's more handy to animate that way. Also design. Have you seen 'The Last Unicorn'? 'Mulan'? Some horses are realistic some are not. You can like it, you can hate it, your business. See this list: www.buzzfeed.com/mathewguiver/the-ultimate-ranking-of-disney-horses?.mjKpDQ7BaR#.skLqMgVw90
But it's still a horse right? ALL of you recognize this creature as a horse. Gotcha! It supposed to be horse. How much can you subtract from the horse for it to be a horse? La question intéressante.
Have you seen Picasso's bull experiment? No? Here: www.artyfactory.com/art_appreciation/animals_in_art/pablo_picasso.htm
For all the kind people here, thank you for providing additional knowledge in cultural way. I appreciate and take it heart. This way I can get better.
For all of you mister and misses KNOW-IT-ALL don't comment if you have nothing to add. Check if not sure. Wikipedia helps. All rude, offensive, hateful or plain stupid comments are deleted.
Actually! Horses CAN walk on three legs, and even live with three legs in specific circumstances, but since they rely so heavily on them and it is so difficult to make a prosthetic, nevermind the cost of such a thing, they are often put down.
Jerico Nox we also have the technology to heal fractures in legs too. It’s just shattered legs that can’t be healed causing horses to be put down.
The music made this an experience
This is timed so well with the music. When the horse is getting to a faster state the music is intense and I love it!
I learned more about animation in this simple 2 minute video than I did in a 5 month freaking animation class.
The tölt will be in the next video. Stop writing about it.
Alex Grzybowska ok sorry
Literally was just going to comment about it. Good thing I read first. =P
The animations are fantastic!😘😘
Alex Grzybowska lol I was just about to say something
I love the cartoony style
When a I was riding a horse once I was walking around the arena and this other horse started trotting like it was a friesian and he wasn’t trained to do that at all. The rider noticed and asked my instructor if he was trained but she said he wasn’t. He only did that for a short while.
WOW! You have got TALENT! O_O
Thank you! =)
You should make an animated horse series with this horse :)
neat little video, but i just thought i'd let you know that a horse cannot physically walk on three legs. so on your lame or "limping" cycle, there could be improvement made! either way, i enjoyed the video, fun animation :)
Erin Griffin Yup. And limping shows better when a front leg is injured.
Erin Griffin They can, but only putting the tip of the hoof down.
Yes they can 😂
I’d like to see u try
I’ve seen a deer RUN on three legs so I assume that a horse can walk on three legs
Thank you so much! Was trying to find good references for horse moment! Absolutely gorgeous animation!!
Why don't you have more subs? It's always the good ones who go unnoticed.
Don't worry, new subs come almost every day =)
Why does this horse look exactly like a dog? Lol fun animation!
That is awesome! It was really funny when the horse reared up and fell down. It's simply fabulous, keep up the great work! Have a fantastic day!
ITS MAJESTIC
especially the rearing :P
Really like that you put a bit of character and humor into it :D
Is it just me or the prancing looks pretty funny
The gallop looks great, a lot of people get the gallop wrong :D the animation is adorable!
I own s horse and have been around horses for 10yrs (I’m 14) and know all of this stuff but I just clicked on it because it looked so friggin adorable 😂😂
That is a majestic rear
Consider a gated horse as well, good job fam you know what horses do
it took me awhile to realize I was watching this at 2x the speed so i was incredibly confused 😂
The prancing is so funny😂 (no hate I just think it’s funny)
Aww this is so cute!!! The rear part was funny but poor horse!!!
Those animations are adorable
You really need to make a animated series on horses
This is rlly satisfying
This is really cool, you're awesome at this.
at the end tho irl i was like WASTED
WOW this is so cool. I used this for a school project thanks to you 😀 and have you credit.
This is so neat
This is so adorable >_
This is so cute!!
So cute!!
This is sooo cool
Love the art style
Ooo I love your style!!
This is great!
Music is called 'The Melody of Chroniko' here: ua-cam.com/video/mMrCkxf0RP8/v-deo.html
CUTEY
Ok thats adorable
Impressive
AMAZING
Wow this is one talented horse. My bid starts at $10,000
😂
Claire Clearman mine is 20 million °~°
I love this so much!
Anyone else kind of die when the didn’t chance the back lead as well
I love horse riding .and thanks for the video
Horses can also Pleasure trot/lope.
I love this!!
I have a horse and some of these were a little off like the limping one. And the trot should be slowed down and extended a little more...
Other than that really good job
I love it!
This is so cute
THESE ARE SO CUTE!!!
Aww so cute!
Spanish walk and the hockey trot XD
It's very good
I love your style
(hackney, not hockney) ; )
Ups! Sorry! Typo happens...
You should make an animation series
wooow this is the best......make game with this annimations !!!!! NICE JOB !
Excellent! Very well done! That is how a horse moves. I know horses very well. Its fun when training a horse to get them to do all those gaits that you animated, accept the limp of course, when lunging a horse. I am an artist/painter, and I'm sure I'll find this helpful someday! God bless and thank you!
You are very welcome! I uploaded it for people like you. =)
Congratulations! Great work of research!
I've never seen a horse prance like that before but overall good video
because when you see it, it's usually a foal
That was so unpredictable when the horse fell over at the end
WHY DID YOU ADD THAT LAST SAD PART ALEX *cri cri*
Okay so even though the anatomy definitely isn't the focus in this Video one (in my opinion) quite big mistake is that in the video the horse's back is bending upwards as it moves just like it would in a dog or a cat. Concerning the movement of a horse it is a very important factor that it's back does not do that so I think it would be useful to consider this for depicting the gaits as it makes the movement more realistic. Anyways: I generally really enjoyed the video and will surely use it for getting a better knowledge of the horse's leg movements in different gaits
You're right about the back movement. I exaggerated it, because the animation felt more energetic and alive that way. If I didn't, all gaits would be as stiff as the trot.
Thank you for a kind insight! =)
OST from Kaiba
nice!!
What about bucking?
I wanted to but...
Not a gait, plus I ran out of time of the song =/
BUT
I'm thinking of doing another animation, a follow up to this one, so I can include more horse motions. =)
Hi Alex! I really like this! I’m thinking of making a movie (animation :v) about a horse for my 10 or less viewers XD Can I use the guidelines in this, please?I’ll credit you if yes!Let me know ASAP!Thankyou Maple :3
Of course you can! I uploaded it mostly for this purpose, to help animators =) Most people in this comment section assume I'm illustrating horse gaits for riders.... eeh *facepalm*
Good luck with you project! =D
Great job!
Tired canter is actually a "lope"
It's so cute!
Some horses walk differently is it just showing the movements
1:34 omg i died😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂this video is amazing and that animated horse is very talented😅btw im just wondering if lope is a different pace to canter cuz i know that lope is a western version of canter but is it the same? 😄😄😄
Great video and funny too😍🐴
Thank you, kind person! =D Canter and lope are the same, they are just called differently. It's just American/ British English thing.
Yeah yeah yeah!!
Great job :D
There also is a tolt which is my personal favourite gate!
Tolt will be in the future video =)
This is really cool :D
Not sure what's up with the prance, but otherwise quite well done!
Is it okay if I reference some of these? :0
Yeah, it's fine!
Besides prance this vid is very good
needs a little work as some of the gaits aren't natural(if that's what you was going for) but very impressive animation
Po prostu G E N I A L N E
So is that supposed to be a duck
Jejku, jednak Polacy są nieco utalentowani.
no jasne B))
I'm not 100 percent sure, but I believe gaits like the Spanish gait are forced by tar or something burned onto the horses foot and made it hurt to walk. But I'm not sure so.
Oh my, that's an abuse! D= As far as I know, the spanish walk is trained by lightly tapping a shoulder with a whip and then a horse is trained to respond to the rider. It's more like a circus trick than a proper gait.
Eagles, if you don't know; don't say so. The tar, etc that you're thinking of is to achieve the unnatural BIG LICK on Tennessee Walkers. It is mostly outlawed (we're working on it still) but done by unscrupulous trainers. But the Spanish Walk is not done with tar.
You forgot the "small walk" and same for the trot. And when the horse gallop and change the leg (sorry I'm not english) you forgot to change the legs under the tail (really sorry for my bad english)
cant resist watching
is it psd or vector?
Thanks! Originally created in Illustrator in vector, then imported to PS to split the body parts on layers. So it's rasterized vector =)
Alex Grzybowska thanks for help :-)
Alex Grzybowska Whats the music? Wonderful animation by the way! Splended! 😊
It's called 'The Melody of Chroniko' here: ua-cam.com/video/mMrCkxf0RP8/v-deo.html
And thanks!
The canter is wrong but other thank that it's a really good video
Uh, the pace more so falls under the category of a walk as the hooves do not move on the diagonal (such as back left, front right). They move as if it would be a walk (such as front left, back left and vice versa)
Check your sources before you write
"The pace is a lateral two-beat gait. In the pace, the two legs on
the same side of the horse move forward together, unlike the trot,
where the two legs diagonally opposite from each other move forward
together. In both the pace and the trot, two feet are always off the
ground."
Wikipedia, duh
Alex Grzybowska
....
You don't have to be so crappy about it, I was just voicing my opinion. Although Wikipedia isn't always right.
I kindly suggest looking at Standardbred race horses. They pace and can go as fast as a horse can gallop. It's really not a walk at all. It's a breed specific gait for a harness race horse.
This is very cute xXx
Cool!!😄😄😄
The hackney trot is actually abuse. Correct me if I’m wrong, but in some places they put burning acid on plastic, and wrap it around the horses’ hooves so it’s too painful for them to step down, but they are forced to walk. If I’m wrong don’t kill me lmao
Hannah Hyde no. The hackney horse is bred to trot like that. No pain needed. Google them
You are thinking of the Big Lick
Please don't confuse every gaited or modified gait breed horse with Tennessee Walkers. That only happens to that breed, and ONLY in Big Lick shows. You cannot sore a trotting horse, like a Hackney or Saddlebred or they won't be able to stand. Tennessee Walkers are the only breed that gets sored. They don't trot so they can catch themselves while sore and also mask lameness better than a trotter. Hackneys and Saddlebreds are bred that way and enhanced with weight lifting. That's it.
I believe that's more on the saddlebred side of showing. Hackneys really do have an over pronounced trot that can be bred naturally, although I don't doubt that abuse goes on in some circles. I remember thinking the same thing until I saw a video of a young Hackney foal trotting to it's heart's content!
This is useful to me (I don't anim8 tho)ps what's the music
No i spoko.
