Great video. It is clear and easy to understand. The pump on my 2003 Ram diesel has been leaking A LOT lately. Now, it is time to replace it, and your video will help. Thanks!
Great video. Thank you. Very helpful. You don't just tell us how to do it, you show us how to do it along with a detailed explanation of what you're doing and what we'll need to do the job from start to finish. A refreshing change from a lot of the videos out there that start halfway thru the job, shot from a bad camera angle, have only a music track for audio, or they're vague at best. I definitely hit the 'like' button and subscribed. Nice job
Thanks for this video! Helped a ton. One additional thing I figured out hard way, is if you have the old style snap ring back pump, be EXTREMELY careful removing the pulley because no one has them. Only pulleys for the new style (bolts on the back) pump. I ended up finding one at a diesel conversion place in Montana for $102...
I watched your video and it was very well done. Like you said I was looking up videos because my 2004 lost power steering and brakes at idle. I'm sad to admit that I did not know you have to change steering fluid or it can go bad. I've had my truck for 17 years and never thought about it. I stuck my truck in the mud yesterday and the fluid finally broke down completely. I followed your instructions on flushing out the fluid. I put new fluid in and all works great without changing the pump. I was told to do this by a professional mechanic friend of mine. He said the pumps do not go out most of the time. The fluid loses its intended properties and thus the problem. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for posting had to change mine(2003 Dodge Ram 2500 with 245,XXXmiles) with the inner fender well out was the ticket, now just gotta figure out the winding noise I have now..I managed to take mine out through the wheel well.
Thank you, Steve. I appreciate you making this video. I got my 03 3500 5.9 motor rebuilt @ ~329k miles and it's been making a bearing noise for the last 2-3k miles. Was hoping it wasn't internal and after popping the hood and really listening, I think the noise I'm hearing is coming from the fan pully so I took off the belt to spin the fan and immediately saw oil coming from the PS pump at the seal so I knew I needed to replace that original pump at the same time, and yes, the pully bearing is a bit noisy so that's probably bad. I haven't taken off the old pump yet so hopefully I have the right one coming from Amazon...we'll see. Don't know where you are, but it's hot here too in Las Vegas. Not looking forward to changing these parts in 105+ weather this weekend. Thanks for the tips on how to make this as easy as possible. Cheers!
Thanks for the nice comment George! Sounds like you wont have any problems getting that pump done! I'm in Fort Worth, and it is pretty hot here as well. Pretty close to 100 degrees, we we have a million percent humidity!😯😆 Best of luck buddy, and Cheers to you!
Excellent video - one can barely see in places you got good video. My reservoir is loose and was hoping that it could be tightened without pulling it maybe not.
That's a nice ATC 350X in the background bud. I got the same issue with the power steering pump on my 04 Cummins, but my pump builds pressure in the reservoir and after a while it blows the reservoir cap off.
Thanks! 350x....do I need it as an old fart, no...do I ever want to get rid of it...no🤣 From that day I put that pump on, however long ago it was, it has worked flawlessly!!!
Great video! I liked the ending & the Sam Adam's beer, ha! One of my favorite beers. I just changed & replaced my evap core, heater core & dryer on my 2004 ram 3500. Changing my power steering pump is next on my list. I wasn't sure if I wanted to tackle it or not. I buy my parts on Rock Auto, & so far have not had any problems. What do you think of Rock Auto? I have 250,000 miles on the truck, & the only thing that has been replaced is the water pump. The truck is 16 years old, so things are starting to go bad. I carry a 2007 Lance camper on my truck too, so it gets a workout.
Your truck sounds awesome! I have 180,000 on mine, running perfect! Rock auto has great reviews. I've never used them, I usually get most off of Amazon. Sometimes same day shipping. Probably saves few buck from rock auto. Rarely by from local parts houses unless I need it right then. I did get this from Oreilly. Cardone pump, probably what rock auto sells as well. Best of luck, and thanks for commenting!!
You made it look easier than it was for me. Mine was leaking everywhere so pretty messy job. I ended up taking off wheel well and tire to get in there. Sadly both bottom bolts holding the fan shroud snapped off. Bummer
Easy access is by removing the fender well. You can flush the system with the old pump so long as it’s functioning if you don’t want to run the new pump dry.
@@StevesBeyondRepair if you pull the driver wheel it gets even easier. If the lighting wasn’t shitty it would be because there was easy access and these videos wouldn’t be needed! Lol. This is the one component that is a real PITA to get to on these trucks- but at least we don’t have to remove the cab to change a fuel pump!!!
That is soooo true!! Put an aftermarket fass fuel pump on it, still working perfect! I think I took the tire off as well...yet another failure in my videoing!! But I am improving. Thanks again.
@@StevesBeyondRepair I had to go through all this crap because the reservoir to pump O-ring failed and was leaking. PITA. If it weren’t for staining the stamped concrete driveway I would’ve just added a little every three months!

Yes I do. I was not able to turn the steering wheel if I was idling. Had to rev it up, then It worked. Every day it go worse and worse. Glad i changed it. Still working perfectly!!

ATF+4 has a friction modifier in it. Standared ATF does not and will extend the life of the pump FYI

Hi, can you tell me number of the pulley tool do you use?
Hi, it was a power steering pulley puller and installer kit from harbor frieght.
what size stud do you use to press the pulley back on?
It was a 3/8 stud if I remember. All the power steering pumps used to come with them to install pulleys. I have a handful. Thanks for watching!

Harbor freight.
Where you buy this power steering, with store I mean?
I bought it at a local auto parts store. Oreilly auto parts.
So the pump what you got was remanufactured?
@@vladimirpecerita7495 let me see if i can find the part number. It was a new one from oreilly

Yes sir. Harbor freight 63068.
