The Weight Intro And C Chord Variations And Fills

- I often hear from students how they want to learn to embellish chords, so that's what we'll talk about in this video...
I was inspired by "The Weight," by The Band, and the little intro that is played at the top of it.
I originally played it in an 'E' shape, but later saw Robbie Robertson play it in a 'C' shape and thought that might make a cool lesson.
So grab your guitar, I hope you enjoy it.

I love lessons like this. Messing with chords/triads and pentatonic shapes are some of my most valuable and memorable fret board discoveries.
Came here looking for the intro of "the Weight" but got so much more. Great lesson
Superb. Clear. Expansive. Mind blown
Thank you for the lesson. You explained it in a way I could understand. Please keep up the good work and I am now a new subscriber 😊
Thank you very much for this lesson. I love lessons like this. I really liked how you explained it using the CAGED system and the pentatonic scale. I hope you'll do more like this.
Thanks Griff. I really enjoyed this lesson. You’ve given me lots of ideas to play around with and right now I’ve got time to work getting these ideas under my fingers
i dig ur insight....its not verbatim and yet its dead on accurate
and i got to keep going over the box lessons you posted.....they rock!
Wow,this was great fun. I knew about the relationships between the pentatonic shapes and the CAGED chords but I never quite had it under my fingers. Now, as I noodle along while following you, I can feel it coming together. Maybe, I'm just ready for it. It's definitely in my learning program for a while. Thanks for the great lesson.
Good Teacher explains it well, good lesson Griff...
That was 15 minutes well spent!
How I hadn't seen the chord/pentatonic tie-up for infills before is beyond me
Great lessons to connect pentatonic scale and chord embellishment.
Great explanation with theory. Thanks!
Thanks so much! You finally helped me understand the caged system!
Thanks Griff, cool stuff there!
Sounds good,thanks for sharing that.

Great video!
Thank you! 🙂 I'm a beginner, so it will take time to learn this song ... but some day, I will play it.
@@keithclark486 No, I have been working and after that been to tired to try. But ... some day! Right now I listen to others playing instead: that's more beautiful to the ears. ;)
Nice lesson Griff

You could also call this the Keith Richards lesson. It is the secret to his early sound.
Yeah it's really everywhere🤣👍
Spent way too long trying to read that awesome shirt!
Is it a play on a Stones song, but “Beast of Bourbon?”
Journey Lights
Hendrixy!
This is cool, however I thought we all knew these voicings, until I realized I'm old, so of course I know this stuff. My son, probably not🤔
Ahh ...key of ‘C’ ...no sharps or flats to figure out! Easy!!🤫
I DON'T KNOW HOW HE'S DOING THIS BECAUSE ALL GUITARS ARE ON SHUTDOWN..... MUST BE 6 FOOT AWAY...FROM PICKER...
