I like that this camper is taking the classic camper shell and bringing new life in! Seems like a great option for quick camping and something you don't feel silly having on the truck day to day.
This is really a good option. It is a little pricey if you compare it to having a camping trailer. The pros and cons are yours to figure out. You can pull a trailer with your toys and not worry. The weight is right on! Small trucks could get this on and not worry to much. Really cool.
I've owned mine now for over a year and absolutely love it. I will admit, I like the changes they made in the new over cab version. I do have a second truck..........
@denim_joey we can tell by the haters' comments that they are absolutely clueless. Those complaining about price has not looked at the other options. The same people are probably complaining about high cost of everything else and demand higher wages for themselves.
@TuanNguyen-ld8kl As I mentioned before, I've owned mine for a while now and have used it at least 60 nights in total camping. I'm amazed with the build quality and have found few issues. I have never felt my Moonlander wasn't worth the price and my only regrets are with some choices of mine on options and accessory placement.
But how do you keep dust coming in from tail gate area. Having had shells, its a problem. Like, its a real problem that can keep you from sleeping at night with congestion and cover everything in it with a layer of dust.
@@Dagger-Moose I have a 2015 Silverado with a canopy and was surprised that water gets in around the top of the box, even with a sealed tailgate a Chevy Silverado or gmc water and dust would still get in, I think this canopy would benefit from being fully enclosed, with insulation too, I live in Canada, last winter I camped in -25c or -13F, I don’t have insulation either or a heater, definitely not recommended, lol
Does the ceiling dome also have blackout shade? Otherwise... What's the use of the other two windows having shades? Still getting all the light from the ceiling.

I'm usually first one to criticize the price, but in this case i find it somewhat reasonable. If this was Patriot camper base price would probably be $59k. It's not cheap but even if you build it yourself and count in your hours at minimum wage plus material tools etc. it's not going to be much cheaper...
Yeah, it's pricey for what it is, but there are roof top tents that cost as much, so it's not bad. I'd want some insulation, but it doesn't look like there is any room... That will be an oven in the sun, and the siding will be cold on a frosty fall night.
You got a great deal on your truck. Priced mine out and everything including insulation was less than 15k. Buy it as a empty shell and do the work to install windows, fan, lights, insulation yourself and it's around $10k. I thought that was pretty reasonable
@TuanNguyen-ld8kl Not 20 years old, and not a beater. And it's not a camper, it's a topper. This thing is priced at about 3 times what it's worth, like everything new in the auto industry.
Suggestion for Luke: For the original Moonlander, you should design an overhead mount to store the bed panels when they are not in use. It seems moonlander-x may be too tall in the deep woods... they would be where i go at least.
Problem with these and FWC X is dust. Sealing the bed and the back gate, pfft. One of the things I like about my FWC Hawk, you get in it after a full day of running trails, all the stuff inside, including bedding is still nice and clean. Multiply that by a weeks trip, it makes a big difference.
A tailgate seal kit and bed rug pretty much eliminate dust. And then you have a camper that is 800 lbs and thousands of dollars cheaper than the camper you speak of. Each have their own purpose though 🤙🏼

I know the Ranger Raptor needs the load box reinforcement kit, but I am wondering (1) how much suspension sag you had with the load on, and (2) did you feel like the preload on the raptor bed had an affect on wheel travel/roll/suspension performance when you took it off-road? None of my local truck expedition specialists have been able to find any rear suspension upgrades to level the truck due to camper sag since its a performance coil over.... maybe you guys at TFC know of options or solutions, or if you feel like the ranger raptor is fine and rides level in stock setup with the camper. Thanks in advance - nice camper review.
It seems to be a very impressive product AND production process so this is not a criticism of the Moonlander itself but based on the shape and size and height and width of it I think there will be a substantial drop in MPG. I have an aluminum top/canopy on my F150 that’s tall enough for my 6-foot to stand up in it and it dropped at least 2 MPG from fuel efficiency and it’s only as wide as my cab. The height of this Moonlander is a bit less but much wider and the extended version would be even wider so you are traveling with a full sail in the back pushing air.
@radica… You might be able to reduce the mpg drop if you build the over the cab portion with a slope instead of vertical front surface. You build everything in house so you can make it happen. I think that would worth 1-2 mpg. Again, not a criticism of the product and because unlike others you actually build in house you can quickly and easily change your camper. 1-2 mpg doesn’t sound much savings but it adds up. You start with 18 mpg and adding bigger tires, lift, weight, the camper and you are down to 11 mpg at no time.
@@is6566 The cabover does slope both down and inward to reduce aerodynamic drag. Remember all the bedding and bed platforms need to fit up there when not in use.
