I like that this camper is taking the classic camper shell and bringing new life in! Seems like a great option for quick camping and something you don't feel silly having on the truck day to day.
This is really a good option. It is a little pricey if you compare it to having a camping trailer. The pros and cons are yours to figure out. You can pull a trailer with your toys and not worry. The weight is right on! Small trucks could get this on and not worry to much. Really cool.
I'm usually first one to criticize the price, but in this case i find it somewhat reasonable. If this was Patriot camper base price would probably be $59k. It's not cheap but even if you build it yourself and count in your hours at minimum wage plus material tools etc. it's not going to be much cheaper...
Yeah, it's pricey for what it is, but there are roof top tents that cost as much, so it's not bad. I'd want some insulation, but it doesn't look like there is any room... That will be an oven in the sun, and the siding will be cold on a frosty fall night.
But how do you keep dust coming in from tail gate area. Having had shells, its a problem. Like, its a real problem that can keep you from sleeping at night with congestion and cover everything in it with a layer of dust.
1) Cool product. 2) It shows the dirt on top from your footprints. 👣 3) Can you fully enclose yourself in there at night to keep the bugs and cold out? Guessing you close your tailgate first, hop in, then close the top? Presumably there is a latch then to get out?
Looks like a great innovative company. You guys should go one step further and start building Aluminium flat trays/ canopies as one unit or trays with a seperate canopy like we have in Australia. Even bulldust doesn’t get in quality canopies.
Problem with these and FWC X is dust. Sealing the bed and the back gate, pfft. One of the things I like about my FWC Hawk, you get in it after a full day of running trails, all the stuff inside, including bedding is still nice and clean. Multiply that by a weeks trip, it makes a big difference.
A tailgate seal kit and bed rug pretty much eliminate dust. And then you have a camper that is 800 lbs and thousands of dollars cheaper than the camper you speak of. Each have their own purpose though 🤙🏼
It seems to be a very impressive product AND production process so this is not a criticism of the Moonlander itself but based on the shape and size and height and width of it I think there will be a substantial drop in MPG. I have an aluminum top/canopy on my F150 that’s tall enough for my 6-foot to stand up in it and it dropped at least 2 MPG from fuel efficiency and it’s only as wide as my cab. The height of this Moonlander is a bit less but much wider and the extended version would be even wider so you are traveling with a full sail in the back pushing air.
@radica… You might be able to reduce the mpg drop if you build the over the cab portion with a slope instead of vertical front surface. You build everything in house so you can make it happen. I think that would worth 1-2 mpg. Again, not a criticism of the product and because unlike others you actually build in house you can quickly and easily change your camper. 1-2 mpg doesn’t sound much savings but it adds up. You start with 18 mpg and adding bigger tires, lift, weight, the camper and you are down to 11 mpg at no time.
Does the ceiling dome also have blackout shade? Otherwise... What's the use of the other two windows having shades? Still getting all the light from the ceiling.
We are working to offer a factory shade but a Velcro shader is easy to make is you want to block the light. This is also optional, you don’t have to spec yours out with the bubble window.
As an Australian I find America normally kicks our ass on most things. You really suck on four-wheel driving and touring after market. Just do a flatbed and half make it yourself, or buy something pre fabed that's twice as good and half the price
I could be wrong, but I think there are probably few flatbed options for a bed that small here. Most of our flatbeds are for HD trucks, so I think that would be the biggest issue. I still say a flatbed on an HD truck with a built cabin is the best option for this sort of thing, but I do think this Ranger setup is nice if you wanna do some serious offroad stuff
I feel the same, but hopefully the pricing reflects this. I have a friend with a project M on his F150 SuperCab 6.5 ft box. I love the full headroom he has. It’s finished/insulated inside but you can add insulation for the fabric pop up as well. I think this is a little more expensive with the cab over option in comparison (similarly optioned). There are some nice additional options the project M has vs the moon lander products. I live in Canada and having to drive to Boulder together this installed is significant. The Project M also required a 4 hour drive, but the installation was done in Canada. Big plus for me. There are multiple places you can get the Project M installed in the USA which is generally more convenient. The Project M is made by 4Wheel Campers. As it is with anything, shop around and see what fits you the best!! They are still significantly less than a slide in camper, 1/4 the weight and with Project M campers you can get jacks to lift it off your vehicle similar to a slide in camper. Very convenient for my buddy. He has a huge heated shop he parks the shell/camper in a corner of when not in use!!
I would switch the panorama roof more forward and the max fan rearward for ‘poop’ mode…. Btw, I’ve never used the propane fire pit - is it safe to run on the tailgate?
Oh so cool! My husband ❤this & wants it on his truck. He liked yours, want it for when won't have the Bruder w/us. Though like the look of original more. Can they color match(wrap) the vehicle? Online it's like basic white & black. Good to 👀 Mr.

Love that module
I love VHB and have multiple size rolls but for that application some rivets as well would make me happier as a customer. Nice little rig
Yeah, not sure about relying solely on VHB. Seems like an unnecessary way to cut costs.

We have a 6'7" bed PowerBoost. If we ever stop towing RV trailer with it I'd be interested in something like this.
Many of our customers tow a trailer and use this as a garage or deployable secondary camper 👍🏼
Pretty surprising the price at base is 2900 to 9000 depending on size still high but less then others not bad if metal is made in america
We use very high grade materials and thicker metals than most, but because our design is simple we are able to keep cost down and longevity up 🫡

you could actually sleep in couch mode. that's what i'd probably do if i was solo

You are bang on ,Dust intrusion is really hard to mitigate on these, without some kind of pressurized filtered unit .
Did they have to add support to the Ranger bed in order to install this?
No but it won’t be on it for long. 😃
New rangers do need the internal supports added (thanks ford) all other trucks do not need added supports.
Very nice.

only if tfl pays for it
