Thank you so much! I was baffled. My truck ran perfect. Then would NOT start. I checked the battery. Neg ground. Alternator wires. All good. I was just teaching my son how to drive a stick on the bumpy dirt road the day before. It must have shimmied loose. I'm a lady but prefer to fix my truck myself after the "blinker fluid" incident!!! Have a wonderful holiday. Nothing but respect.
@@HoodHandyman this was very helpful but I need to ask you a few more questions on these old d21 I have one myself and needing some advice please feel free to email me or reply to my comment and we can figure out a way to chat. Thank you.
The fact that you got in and did something is cool, but reaching out and helping others by filming is awesome. Trying to narrow down my stuff, but all contacts are secured..I will make a video similar...if only as successful as you..sir. cheers and good looking out!!
Hood Handyman I second that. I literally just broke down at Home Depot and as I was waiting feo my wife and before calling for a tow I found your video and it started. You are one awesome hood handyman!!!!!!
awesome video! I am in a similar situation having the truck shut off when I use the headlights. I am inspecting wires now but this video was a great help and told me where to go
Right away, I noticed your battery is not designed for that car. The terminal posts should be at the REAR of the battery, not at the front. This allows all other wires to be shorter and not "customized." I loved your quote, 'I'm not an electrician at all.' Duct tape looks nice.Good luck.
plastic connectors off six years ago soldered gray fusible link wire from O'Reilly's and put on my own little connectors that I can tighten down on the positive battery terminal and it lasted for about six or seven years till it got corroded
I have a similar problem with my Nissan -00 d22, will check this out tomorrow for sure! Btw, the connector isn’t actually needed right? So if I don’t find the broken cable I can just replace the entire connector and shorten the cables, right?
If you can't find the cable its possible to replace the connector but I don't know about shortening anything . theres barely long enough wire already . thanks for your comment please like and subscribe
@@HoodHandyman Yeah I realized that while looking for a damaged wire, the weird thing for me is that I’ve never had any problems while driving the car it’s just that sometimes you can’t start it at all and sometimes it starts directly after I’ve turned the key I’ve ordered a fuel filter and I’m also going to check if there’s air inside the fuel lines, just subscribed btw Greetings from Sweden👍
I have a Nissan truck 96 ran fine parked it for a few hours now just turns over won't start up. Can roll off will crank run until you give hard gas then acts like it runs out of gas it is getting gas fuel pump comes on fuel filter is good??? Please Help!!!
May I recommend twisting and folding the skinny wire to prevent it from coming loose! Either way, great video! Just finished dealing with this problem and it completely befuddled me for the longest. Haven't driven my 92 D21 in a while but it's interesting to see that ignition wire corrode
Ihave one..brand new starter, alternator, mass flow sensor, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, timing chain, cranks with battery charger and the battery still drains dead..any tips
I have the same issue rn. New alternator, New starter, New starter relay, battery is good and something is draining. I was told the voltage regulator and I just notice my wires are a Lil corroded. I would say, take a look at the electrical stuff. Wires
@@fredgallegos3157 I haven't gotten one yet. I have been biking it to work, 20 min, saving on gas, but it would be by the right fender. Next to the fuse box. There's two alike. One is a starter relay and the other is the voltage regulator. The one further in and smaller is the voltage.
Hey guys I like to ask if eny one can help me out please I was driving me d21 1993 and die when you turn key light go on dashboard but no star meybe someone have that problem can help me please thanks God bless
Hey man would it crank but wouldn't start? Or wouldn't crank? I have same issue. Drove pickup for 2.5 hrs and parked it for couple days. Got back to town and it cranks over but doesn't fire. Had the pickup for 3 years and it's been 100% solid except this
Your starter works. Look for spark and fuel supply, less likely a problem. My 1989 D21 2WD cranked n no start was due to out of timing, which I UA-cam search and fixed by resetting timing in June 2021. 5 years ago, same crank n no start forced me to had it towed to a local shop for a fix by replacing the ignition sensor which is inside the rotor. It cost 550 dollars.! It is cheapest to buy a rotor which has the sensor in it. Search UA-cam on how to replace rotor.
That's your fuel cut off wire . Go thru the harness as much as you can don't pick your part because they could be even worse all worned out these wires get hot and if they ground guess what bro your truck will be on fire literally just be careful replace wiring with the same gauge but get new material I know this trucks good luck hope this helps be safe bro
If your car cut out while you we’re driving it isnt your battery your battery is only used to start the car after that it does absolutely nothing but charge takei g volts from the alternator after the car had turned over and started the batteries job is over
There's also a straight starter contact ignition single wire connection just to the back of the battery. This connection goes bad too. Simple fix. Just Bypass back to the ignition switch.
Those original connector plug wires are basically fuses. Those were designed to burn off on the inside should there be a short circut. I think the 720 & D21 both have those. My 720 did the same damn thing till a old guy that did sales and services at Nissan around 1975 to around 1994 came by my shop & told me that thats my problem. & true as f#*% that was it
Same truck, no start. Ended up replacing the starter. Still no start. Finally, I noticed this small rubber pad on the floor mat under the pedals. Turns out, it was a pad that had fallen off of the clutch pedal. The pedal arm has a metal plate with a rubber pad attached that engages with a safety switch that lets the engine know that the clutch is disengaged before it will allow you to start the engine. The rubber pad had torn off of the metal plate, leaving this hole where it would normally contact the safety switch. Replaced the rubber pad and it started right up. Felt like a real dumbass.
