Barry Allen The rationale I hear from my Republican relatives isn't "how dare the government tell me to get myself health coverage". It's "how dare the government tell me that I have to pay for that poor person's health care?" with a side of "they're going to use my money for things like abortions and birth control!"
Barry Allen some because they dont like being told what to do by the government, some because they cant afford to eat +pay rent let alone pay for insurance cover. America is a country with a lot of ppl that dont have much and a few that have so much.
Barry Allen Hi, as an American I would like to explain. Congress is run nearly entirely by idiots. Unlike the presidency where you can only have 2 terms, congressmen have unlimited terms and barely any competition. Some of those guys have been there for over 30 years. During their childhood there was more racism, sexism, homophobia, and an even worse education system. Unfortunately this has skewed their collective perspective. Like most older people, Congress doesn't like change. Unlike most older people, they actually have the power to do something about that. Something looks like Socialism? Bam! Vetoed. Information that is different from their personal opinions (And the wrong information they were taught is their schools)? Bam! Ignore and whine. The national debt increases? Bam! Blame Obama and act as if Congress doesn't completely control how the budget is spent. This is generalizing most congressmen, however there are members who are sane and want to help the country. People blame our education or our President when in reality it's the fact that their are no term limits in Congress. It's like if you get an old car then give it new paint job. Then after the car crashes due to the brakes failing, the new owner blames the paint job. Bad Presidents can mess up the country, but it's about time that people see that a bad Congress can do just as much, if not, more damage.
Just an FYI because many people don't understand this. You NEED universal coverage in order to allow people with pre-existing conditions to get health insurance. The only way insurers can afford to take in high risk patients is if there are a ton of healthy low risk patients.
@KingofUSA85: Let's improve on your novel idea. Abolish every public service. You don't want your burglars in your house? Pay for your own police. You want to make sure your property is safe when there is a fire, pay for your own fire department. You want to get somewhere? Build your own road! I am sure we can find several other areas where the public is forced to pay for individuals. We can save the public from spending billions. End of Ironie
Everywhere in the world ppl understand the principles of healthcare ... only in the usa ppl are too stubborn to understand. It is sooooo easy. Reps are so laughable. And Trump has no plan at all. He uses words like a sales man ... talking much about nothing and trying to sell you nothing for a gold coin. Poor folks!
Cut military spending and switch to a single payer system. I don't see why its so hard for some people to understand that healthcare should be a way bigger priority than the military.
Uh, with the rise of Isis and the fact that we're about to get a president (Hilary) who wants to go to war with Russia and Syria, I would think that military spending is pretty important.
draconitious it shouldn't even cost more than you already pay, in the uk we have it while paying a lower percentage of our gdp than you guys do on healthcare and having a lower gdp per capita (I think).
Just read about a woman who had her tongue ripped out by her angry boyfriend. He tried to bite her ears, nose and lips off. A terrible story. But what was most abhorent to me was the line about "Friends have set up a GoFundMe page to cover her medical expenses". THAT IS THE WORST PART OF IT. She is a victim of a crime and has to pay for treatment?
Thats why you dont live i. the US. If i lived in the us, my first priority eould be to emigrate to a less mentally unfortunate country. Without people, failed system such as the US would collapse l.
Because the christian racist supremacists in our country hold too much power and our education system is crap. Did you hear about the christian mother who complained about her daughter's school teaching information, not the religion, on Islam. It is like saying: let's learn about the Holy Roman Empire without talking about Christianity. *faceplam*
Only thing is, that isn't why the prices are higher. Obamacare isn't your only option for healthcare. You can say Elementary Economics all you want but it doesn't apply.
bertohead No the real reason prices are high is a combination of risk to hospitals and insurance as a business. Hospitals need to charge more because they can't be sure everyone is covered like they would be in universal health care. Insurance needs to charge more than health coverage to make a profit. As most insurance companies don't do anything but insurance, they need to mitigate their risks as well. Net result, you end up with a greedy middle-man with out of control prices. Add in pharmaceutical companies and bad things happen.
+Yoon Jeongsoo the junior doctors union have like some other unions being infiltrated with hard left Corbyn supporters and seem to think that by having strikes they can bring down the Tory Govt. and then a hard left labour will take over
Nothing is free, the government runs mostly on taxes. Hmmm, 200 years afo our tax burden was 2%, now it's over 50% when you consider federal, state, sales, gasoline, etc. If you didn't pay half your wages in some form of tax don;t you think you could afford to pay for your health care?
the insurance isn't very good. I had an infected finger, my total bill 550. My cost after insurance was $170. The lady at the counter said had I not submitted it to my insurance. My out of pocket would have been 130. So my out of pocket and bill was more by sending it to the insurance company then just paying the clinic directly. Our system is broken.
I have no answer to any of those questions. I happen to be at the pharmacy waiting for my prescription, and I saw the total amount on the screen. She looked over 65.
This isn't a surprise, or shouldn't be. I don't have ObamaCare, but my insurance goes up every year. I don't think it's a matter of what went wrong, it's the fact that people need to USE their healthcare. If you're paying more out than you're getting to finance a program, there are problems. Try paying for your own insurance, totally, on your own; it's astronomical. Even if your employer helps, it's still expensive. Young people think they will never get sick, but without healthcare, one big illness can bankrupt you. I agree that every plan needs to work out the kinks. Anyone who has their corporate office making programs that THEY don't have to use knows about that.
i still find it hard to believe how a developed country like the US doesn't see universal healthcare as a basic human right! the NHS isn't perfect, but im so glad im from a country where i have the piece of mind to know i have access to health care no matter what
Jayant Chaurasia You mean that there's such a thing as non-Indian doctors? My PCP is Indian and there is one white doctor at the doctor's office that I go to but he's an old fellow that's been around since before the US started having fewer people making it through medical school. He's so old that I've heard him call vaginas hoohaws. I'm 45 and I'd never heard it called that before.
Jayant Chaurasia We are going to repeal and replace them, let me tell you. We are going to have doctors so white that Norway will be jealous. Its going to be tremendous
Thing is, There were a set of subsidies that went to insurers to make up for the influx of those they originally would have rejected. Marco Rubio slipped language into a spending bill as a rider, that canceled those subsidies. Now insurers are backing out.
switch to single-payer system. make it compulsory for everyone. problem solved. this will lower cost for everyone. take it as a flat rate tax on health for everyone. Sometimes you will benefit from your insurance more and sometimes someone else will. Depends how often you get sick. Also....you never know. Maybe nothing happens to you but what about your parents? Cancer, strokes....those things can happen to anyone. And if you have a lot of sick people in a country .... well that's no good for anyone. e.g. in Czech Republic everyone pays compulsory cca $65.00 a month. I don't see it as a big deal. My friend had cancer and was in a hospital for a month. she didn't have to pay anything. my brother in law had a heart attack and had an surgery and stayed in the hospital for a week. he didn't have to pay a dime. and one day when I get old, injured...who knows, I am covered. one less thing to thing about. the system works pretty much everywhere and for everyone in Europe. it's a win win situation.
I like your proposal, but having a flat rate shits on the people at the bottom of the social economic system. In some cases that 65$ could be a good percentage of someone's monthly income. While in others', that's a 1000th of what they bring in monthly.
The alternative is not to be covered in a private system with premiums of $650 per month. The state could subsidise those at the very bottom - example: those on welfare in the UK (and under 18s) get free prescriptions [it's around £9 for everyone else].
There's a very simple solution to all this. PUBLIC FUNDED HEALTHCARE!! Almost every county in europe has it so surely the us can as well. It baffles me that this doesn't happen
All the Republican legislators, and most of the people bleating about it on social media, get health care through their employers, not on the exchanges, meaning the premiums of Obamacare plans don't affect them at all.
To everyone who is in their 20's and thinks he is invincible and doesn't need health insurance: I was 20 years old when I had an accident while playing football, my AC joint pretty much shattered in many many small pieces. I had to go to the hospital where they tried to screw the pieces back together. One year later, I had to get surgery again, the screws didn't stay in place and my shoulder dislocated again. The second surgery was a big one, they completely cut open my shoulder, removed all the bones from my joint and replaced them with parts of my collarbone. Now I have to take medicine for the rest of my life. The medicine cost me 140€ a month, the surgery both times cost a total of around 50.000€...I should say would have, because you know how much I paid? 10€ because I live in Germany.
Ryan Gibson They are in different industries. Internet Service Providers need to cover areas with a large scale of infrastructures which means the entry barrier is very high. However, the insurance providers only need to provide service from "man-force".
Dylan Chen The barrier is also high for health insurance organizations, considering they need a very large pool of expendable wealth to survive when they first begin service. Without a considerable volume of subscribers to off-set their expenses, they experience the same issues that the ACA is now (but worse). Ultimately, if everyone -- even those healthy -- are not contributing to a single service, then the service will only be more expensive (or less supportive) for those who end up using it. This is why current health-care organizations have systems in place to deny high-risk subscribers, while hiking-up prices for those who experience an accident.
Because you live in a DIRTY COMMUNIST COUNTRY, the true AND FREE US OF A will never lower itself to force its citizens to pay for something that's not related to them.
How is health not related to a person? So many countries have a good healthcare, why don't the US have one? That is pretty sad. Why do you see healthcare as affront to human rights?
Dear Americans is this a correct sentence: „[...] getting rid of immediately Obama Care!“ ? In School I learned that the the tense comes at the beginning or the end of the sentence. So please tell me.
Konst Saalfeld Is this a joke or are you genuinely asking for help? Well anyway: Spelling: American Beginning Grammar: "Get rid of Obama immediately!" 1"the" "at the beginning or the end" Other than that it's ok. If you need anymore help just ask and if this was a huge joke I hope everyone got a laugh out of this comment.
No, Trump just has grade-school level of rhetoric. Actually, that is an insult to most grade-schoolers. He should have phrased it: "[...] get rid of Obama Care immediately!" or "[...] immediately get rid of Obama Care!"
Yeah sometimes when you're being interviewed on the spot with no pre written lines and millions of people watching, you can stutter sometimes. Just like Obama putting "uh" in between every sentence.
So... we immediately get rid of Obamacare. Then we're going to come up with a new system so great that nobody has even thought of it yet. And then we are going to get Congress to pass this new system. Should be up and running in about 50 years.
No, the problem with ACA is that it isn't public. It isn't a good idea to expect companies to pay for your medical care when it is in their best interest to not pay.
I have witnessed the positive effects that making healthcare finally available and affordable has created for Americans. So many Americans don't have to suffer through an illness or dread that something gravely serious could be affecting their health. Its great to have this, it is a very progressive and positive decision for our country. A lot of lives have been saved by preexisting condition regulation. If the original plan wouldn't have been compromised by the Republican party over and over, and the plan preceded (the way it was intended to be) "I would have coverage". When I signed into Healthcare.gov for the first time I was excited, but whilst trying to get some help I was informed of Tennessee's choice and that no relief could be given. They could have made that possible in Washington. I live in one of the 18 states that have not extended Medicaid eligibility and I can't figure out why. In Tennessee 2 year free community college tuition is offered now, ????? so it couldn't be the cost... right? I remember the government shutdown over this. It astounded me. The fact that we had a Democratic President for two terms and probably sure Hillary will be elected making it 12 years at least. Many feel that the only reason we still have a Republican house in congress is due to gerrymandering and voter suppression. I've had it with this "party" as a whole. Healthcare is just up an fact that we had a Democratic President for two terms and probably sure Hillary will be elected making it 12 years at least. runnng, its still new and with something as complex as this there are going to be things that need to be adjusted and tweaked as Obama mentioned.
Why didn't you make it mandatory? Here is an obligation for businesses to provide health care to employees, and government provide health care to people without a job. You guys implemented in a way you trust other people, and we all know people are shit. If I'm wrong, correct me please. It's what I understood watching this and other news about it.
Mandatory for businesses to provide health care to their employees. And everybody needs healthcare, specially in the era where everyone pops a pill for anything.
ofcourse nobody likes to be TOLD what to do. shouldnt americans out of themselves decide to pay as a group for eachother instead of being FORCED? good stuff to think about
That would have been their vote for obama, if he just had the guts to make it part of his program, but he had not enough trust into his people to actually ask them the right question.
There is no need for healthy people to subsidize the sickly. Simply create a federal system, wherein people are mandated to pay a percentage of their wage into a fund, with which they pay for their medical procedures and make it transferrable to other family members.
To be a doctor you have to be very skilled and intelligent. Plus they make like over 100k a year. So in my eyes there's nothing wrong with that. "All white girls like starbucks" or "all black people like watermelon" are versions of a "bad" stereotype.
When I was younger (7/8), because health care was so expensive when I cracked my skull open and my head was bleeding I couldn't go to the hospital because my family didn't have enough money. I'm worried that if trump gets elected I'll loose health care and when something like that or worse happens again I won't be able to get treated.
I had my health insurance license, scored a 93 on the exam on the first try, the reason I'm humble bragging is so that you know that I know my sh**, oh and I stayed in a holiday inn express last night so I reaally know it. I am getting sick and tired of how short term this country's memory is about EVERYTHING. Nevermind us not taking inflation into account when we think about pricing things gas is cheaper now relative to the strength of the dollar than it was when it was hovering around $1.00/gal in the late 90's/early 2000's but you'll never convince someone of that cause all they see is the $2.00/gal. Here is what you need to know, before ACA there is this crazy thing that happened to the people who had health insurance, their premiums went UP every single year. That's if you could get insurance in the first place but yeah they went up and before ACA they were starting to go up significantly and your employer who was taking most of the burden for your insurance was starting to cut benefits covered or shop around and switch companies. Not only that but you had a lifetime maximum on your insurance of a couple million depending on the policy. Sounds like a lot I know but ask any family that ended up filing bankruptcy cause they ended up in a burn unit and their insurance stopped paying for it cause it maxed out and they couldn't get new insurance do to a pre-existing condition. ACA sucks for a litany reasons but premiums going up is not one of them. If you take the employer out of the equation then you are going to naturally have more expensive insurance. The issue is people who have had insurance through an employer at one point in their life think, "Well I had amazing coverage before ACA and I only paid like $65/mo and it never went up." Not realizing they just had a good employer who was probably paying $200-400/mo for their insurance. Obama and the Democrats tried to have the government cover insurance like an employer would but the GOP stood in the way. You can either have lower taxes and higher premiums or higher taxes and lower premiums but not both. This isn't disneyland so get out of here with the Mickey Mouse sh**.
Here's my issue with Obamacare- it has resulted in increased expenses due to illogical overuse while at the same time compensating by reducing doctors' earnings. The illogical overuse is in that since the implementation of the ACA, there have been a record number of people attending emergency rooms for ailments that don't require the use of an emergency room at all. Want a better solution? If we keep the ACA, at least find a way to advise people when they should or shouldn't attend an ER. Not instruct, advise. Food for thought.
the reason Obamacare is having to raise the rates is because you still have for-profit insurance companies trying to make a profit if it were a single-payer government health care that's goal wasn't to turn a profit it was just to make sure everybody had Healthcare it wouldn't be nearly as costly and enrollment wouldn't be optional it would be automatically done in taxes you would have 100% participation among taxpayers and no profit motive which means much lower cost couple that with a government that's not afraid to stand up to pharmaceutical companies and Healthcare wouldn't be expensive
There are plans you never heard of .... because they haven't even been thought of. Wow, another genius statement, a stable one for sure. You can't beat logic !
It is too bad not all of the show is on youtube, I guess because comedy central links some bits on here to entice us into us going on to comedy central's site to watch the show. I want to comment on another segment in this show... when Trevor talks about being sick more in America and says, "It could be the food." The food quality of American food is terribly poor. TRUMP talks soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much about REGULATION yet the food regulation is terrible poor, UNBELIEVABLE. Most "illegal aliens" work in the factories of butchersville (another name for slaughter houses). GMOs corporations can own a seed and yet this is linked to other disease, and should be illegal like most other countries. In the last 5 years, a dramatic increase has occurred in juices (probably in all foods now); a substance called "natural flavors" linked to addiction. Also, Enriched Unbleached Flour is used in bread, the main ingredient in most all breads, what that means is it completely strip the nut of it protein, the shell. It is not proven yet but to my belief this is what causes Celiac Disease. Be aware of what you eat!!!!!!!!!
It's so strange looking at america from the outside. I'm from New Zealand, and here we have free/subsidized healthcare (GP visits usually have a surcharge), pharmac which makes most prescriptions $5 each item, for your first 20 then free after that. We have private and public hospitals. if you need surgery or treatment, you talk to your GP to choose if you want to go public or private. For non-life threatening surgery, provided you meet the criteria you will wait up to 6 months, if it gets to 6 months before you have your surgery you will have your surgery in the private sector paid for by the public sector. People choose to have health insurance if they want to have surgery and treatment more quickly, without being on a waitlist, and they have their surgery at private hospitals. private hospitals also do elective cosmetic procedures etc, but mostly its the same surgery as the public hospitals, just for those that want to pay to have it sooner- be it paying themselves or having health insurance to pay for it. If you have a life threatening event, if you need emergency surgery or if you have a life threatening chronic illness such as cancer, you will get your treatment fast through the public sector. If you have an accidental injury, we have ACC. ACC covers or subsidises any emergency treatment as a result of an accident. it also covers the cost of an ambulance if you have a motor vehicle accident. from the clips inserts, i kinda think the US needs ACC haha! I find it so confusing that a lot of americans think that having universal health care is a bad thing.
One thing not being pointed out enough in this coverage is that this doesn't affect the vast majority of Americans who get health insurance from their employer, and that the ones that do get health care that way are actually still paying substantially more on average than the people who get their health care from the ACA, even with the price hikes.
I haven't been to the doctor in 10 years but that is not why I haven't signed up for obama care. I work 60 hours a week to maintain financial solvency, which means I make slightly too much to get subsidies on health care. But even with those hours put in I definitely cannot afford healthcare along with my other expenses. Before Obamacare I couldn't afford health care and now the only thing that has changed is I get fined for not being able to afford health care.
Typical hey, but maybe USA wants Comedians to run the WH. Its always better just to listen to the rallies speakers themselves than a broken telephone conveying messages.
I'm one of those young people who did not sign up for health insurance and still don't have insurance to this day. Like it was said, it's too expensive for some people and frankly paying a fine would cost less that actually having the insurance. For someone who is earning a salary that is just slightly above the low income margin, living in New York City, it is just not feasible to add insurance on top of the big list of bill every month. Sad to say that I'm not even one of those healthy young ones. I have pain all over my body and am in need of medical attention from an orthopedist but I can't and resort to wearing braces everyday. I was getting tired of the pain and was thinking about getting insurance to fix myself up but I guess that plan is down the drain.
Its interesting to see that pretty much on ALL social issues americans always think about PROFIT. economy and profit and how much will something COST them. completely obsessed with money. VERY rarely do i hear other values being used such as helping people, caring, togetherness, collective, helping, selfless, controlling capitalism etc. very interesting and very poor level of state of mind in general speaking in the usa
I'm libertarian, not republican... but HOLY HELL, does NO ONE who has watched this video understand why republicans don't want healthcare?? HERE is why: 1. Worst Case Scenario: Joe Couchpotato -- lives his whole life eating McDonalds and Doritos, has never exercised a day in his life, never worked a day in his life and doesn't want to, knows full-well that he should be exercising and that his diet is shit because who the fuck doesn't know better, and then you're telling me that I have to help pay for his heart attack at age 35? FUCK THAT 2. The same drug/procedure in the US costs 10x what it does overseas. Why? Because of US corruption and lack of competition. (insurance companies cannot compete across state lines) Our shit is unreasonably expensive, and this needs to be fixed FIRST. Otherwise tax dollars are going to pharmaceutical companies' pockets. Yeah, real bright, take from the people and give to the greedy fucked up corporations that have corrupted our government. 3. Our food is SHIT. Because of corruption and other reasons, we are SO slow to improve the health quality of our food. Trans fats were only made illegal a few years ago! Are you fucking kidding me? Do you know how long this shit was outlawed in Europe?? There is a long list of ingredients and such that SHOULD NOT EVEN BE LEGAL in the US that other countries outlawed long ago but food companies infiltrate and pay the FDA and congress to ignore the damn science. 4. We can't afford it right now!! YES we should stop spending so damn much on the military (and also so damn much in general!), but the fact of the matter is Liberals for some unbeknownst reason cannot seem to get in their damn heads that there is this thing called ECONOMICS and right now our debt is MASSIVE. If our economics get terribly much more out of hand, you won't be able to find a job and even feed yourself, never mind fucking healthcare! If we can get rid of reasons 2, 3, and 4, then yes! We absolutely should have universal healthcare coverage, because for every worst case scenario there is a best care scenario of someone who genuinely deserves coverage, but until then IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE IN THIS COUNTRY.
1 was covered in the video. That person gets covered by you either way. 2 I completely agree things are too expensive, however studies have shown that the state lines part doesn't work/happen. There are already states where insurance companies can compete across lines and they choose not too because of costs. In which case the "solution" would be to use incentives, but then you're spending money to make it work which kind of defeats the purpose, no? 3 This one is kind of difficult. I get the idea, but wouldn't information and labeling be better than making things illegal? Just because it's unhealthy doesn't mean you should ban people from it. 4 I'm not sure why you blame liberals, it's both sides. I mean, you started with military which is typically a republican spending area, plus pushes for cutting taxes which sounds good... Except that it doesn't work when you don't have less spending anyway. Stuff's complicated.
I think managing healthcare market hikes would go much further in reducing healthcare costs. No one should have to pay $250 for an epi pen that's only worth $15.
Question for the US here (and i might simplify it a bit too much here): Why don't you look at other countries? Look at Denmark. They have very high taxes, among the highest in the world, nearing 50%. That sounds bad, but when you look at what they get in return, you might think again: - Education: largely funded by taxes - Healthcare: Almost entirely funded by taxes - paid marental-leave - care for the elderly - disabled people (with handicaps) can get social benefits Taxes are not bad... If they are used right they can do so much for the country. The Netherlands (my home country) has the same. The Primary Healthcare (PH) is funded by taxes. You pay taxes? You have basic healthcare. PH takes care of you in cases of emergencies. When you get hit by a car, or suffer a bad fall at work, or get stabbed by your annoying classmate etc. etc. and so on, and so on. If the US can raise the taxes, but use that to fund Healthcare, EVERYBODY would have healthcare, and it would be funded by EVERYBODY. Taxes are not optional and you have to pay taxes. Boom! solved. (it is simplified, i know... but this is the basis) Why doesn't the US look at how other countries have Healthcare. Ask them; How do you do it? I am 100% sure that other countries would love to help the US out. But the main problem with the US is that they think: "We're the US. We don't need nobody. USA USA USA!! Best country in the world!" What do you do when you don't know how it works? You ask someone who does know. What happens if you try, but fail miserably? You ask for help.
Here in germany you have to have a health care insurance by law. so everyone has an insurance and pays for it and everyone gets treated if they have to be and i think thats the best way. :)
Just a heads up about voting hence why you should, "The presidential election is held every four years on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November. You help choose your state’s electors when you vote for President because when you vote for your candidate you are actually voting for your candidate’s electors. Most states [all except Maine and Nebraska] have a “winner-take-all” system that awards all electors to the winning presidential candidate [by popular vote in that state]. However, Maine and Nebraska each have a variation of 'proportional representation.'" - National Archives Vote to swing the vote. Every state except two are swing states. Just vote!
I use to be healthy : young, no alcohol, not overweight, sport, no smoking, etc But guess what! Car accident and a cancer. Happy to have a health care system in my country. You never know when you or someone you love will need healthcare.
Take a look at the salaries of the heads of these Insurance companies. From close to 30 million a year to "only" around 12 million a year. Add the "golden parachutes" that many corporate leaders get as incentives and you find your "need" for a raise in rates for insurance.
I'm English and I don't understand why the Americans would boo having free or subsidised medical care? Is there a reason for this? Surely you would want free or at least cheap healthcare?
That's why we pay for health care out of our taxes in the UK. I was young once, I paid for the NHS. Now i'm getting older and I know I will soon use the NHS. See how it works?
When I was young like 15-16, I use to watch a program on AXN called "Top 20 Countdown" or somthing. Even in those days I could easily tell that Americans were the "Smartest kid in the room"
If you want to fix health care in the US, you need to fix how hospitals get to charge over 100 times of nanufacturer price on a bag of IV. Producing a bag of IV cost around $1.07. With this in mind check your hospital bill if you got an IV before. It will show charging you in hundreds.
4:14 at this timestamp what did they do and why? The main reason I ask is cause being partly blind is not exactly the greatest of medical defects and makes it really hard for me to see at most times.
You joke about adding lower quality plans, but that's exactly what PPACA banned in the first place: cheap plans for catastrophic coverage. People were pissed off when they lost these plans.
Even the none Obamacare plans are going up and have new costs, it's not just the Affordable Care Act plans. Paying more for less in all the insurance plans.
why the hell would anyone in any country not want mandatory health care?? wtf is wrong with america??
America is also lower in education... so there is your connection
Barry Allen The rationale I hear from my Republican relatives isn't "how dare the government tell me to get myself health coverage". It's "how dare the government tell me that I have to pay for that poor person's health care?" with a side of "they're going to use my money for things like abortions and birth control!"
Barry Allen alot of people believe it will raise out already high taxes or put us even more in debt.
Barry Allen some because they dont like being told what to do by the government, some because they cant afford to eat +pay rent let alone pay for insurance cover. America is a country with a lot of ppl that dont have much and a few that have so much.
Barry Allen
Hi, as an American I would like to explain.
As a cancer survivor, seconded.
Poor folks!
+KingofUSA85 Tell me, where in the Constitution does it allow for corporate subsidies? Make your argument without resorting to bullshit or stfu.
Correct. And for that very reason you guys don't have health care. You guys are to dumb to do it voluntary and like betting on bad odds.
Cut military spending and switch to a single payer system. I don't see why its so hard for some people to understand that healthcare should be a way bigger priority than the military.
draconitious We don't live in a direct democracy and the Congress is bought out by military contractors and insurance companies.
Uh, with the rise of Isis and the fact that we're about to get a president (Hilary) who wants to go to war with Russia and Syria, I would think that military spending is pretty important.
draconitious it shouldn't even cost more than you already pay, in the uk we have it while paying a lower percentage of our gdp than you guys do on healthcare and having a lower gdp per capita (I think).
bonjanglevash But isn't the heath of the people a bigger priority than some stupid worthless war?
cut military spending?! ooh. we have ticked off too many people. we need the military for real, now.
This makes me so thankful for having been born in a European country with universal healthcare.
They are trying to collapse european universal healthcare system, by overburdening it with non-working refugees.
At least in germs the money for refugees comes from a different source than the money for our healthcare system, so it is not in danger
Nick G
that's not how this works.
that's not how any of this works
The USA should have free health care I am luck I live in the UK
Mohsin Ahmed Same, the NHS isn't perfect but it is still really good.
The NHS is fantastic
***** That very sad
Mohsin Ahmed or at least go to Single Payer like we all want
US is quite poor imo. it has a territory equal to that of 50 countries yet it can't provide its citizens free healthcare and education.
I have a crazy idea, why don't we just eliminate the middle man's profit margin, aka the insurance company.
Brad Davies because Republicans are even less likely to vote for that
You are crazy, who would profit from that? Your idea will never get a majority from american voters.
Traumglanz why do we need to profit off the sick and dying?
you want to work for free? be he first one
But who's going to pay for the doctors lamborgini then?
What the hell is wrong with the people in our country?
Being taken care of when youre hurt isnt your right, its a privilege and a service you pay for!!! What do you think we are, A first world country?!?!
00:17 Did this dude say the Gubment?
Mercenary 1914 you hear what you want to hear.
Rowland Aloriba Cool Story, bro?
he totally ddid
I didn't pick up on it at first, but yes. Yes, he did.
Mercenary 1914 how tf did you even pick on that? 😂😂😂😂
Literally the entire developed world has free healthcare except for the US.. how can it be that you fuck this up time and time again?
Because the christian racist supremacists in our country hold too much power and our education system is crap. Did you hear about the christian mother who complained about her daughter's school teaching information, not the religion, on Islam. It is like saying: let's learn about the Holy Roman Empire without talking about Christianity. *faceplam*
that honestly goes beyond me. funny on how the u.s. basically made an industry out of people's lives.
No competition=Higher Prices.
Elementary Economics.
Fuck I love the NHS
Theo Snelson Is that why junior doctors are striking every other year?
Yoon Jeongsoo This is literally the first year in history that the Junior Doctors have done a full strike.
+Yoon Jeongsoo the junior doctors union have like some other unions being infiltrated with hard left Corbyn supporters and seem to think that by having strikes they can bring down the Tory Govt. and then a hard left labour will take over
america is slacking at this point, why would any one NOT want free health care please?
Anny Almeida its not free. Obamacare just makes it more available and requires you to get insured, you still have to pay for it like before.
Krombopulos Michael I think shes talking about universal healthcare. yea we do want it. cant seem to get it passes.
It can be exploited for greedful purposes, just like with the USSR.
Anny Almeida Cause its not free
Nothing is free, the government runs mostly on taxes.
Hmmm, 200 years afo our tax burden was 2%, now it's over 50% when you consider federal, state, sales, gasoline, etc.
If you didn't pay half your wages in some form of tax don;t you think you could afford to pay for your health care?
"They don't have a plan, they just hate mine!"
the insurance isn't very good. I had an infected finger, my total bill 550. My cost after insurance was $170. The lady at the counter said had I not submitted it to my insurance. My out of pocket would have been 130. So my out of pocket and bill was more by sending it to the insurance company then just paying the clinic directly. Our system is broken.
One time I saw this elderly lady and she paid over 5000 dollars for prescription bottles. How is that legal?
Is she over 65; not on Plan D? or old tourist, not eligible for government health care program.
Or maybe she did not tell you the whole situation.
I have no answer to any of those questions. I happen to be at the pharmacy waiting for my prescription, and I saw the total amount on the screen. She looked over 65.
...sounds odd!
If you hadn't submitted it to your insurance, who would have paid the remaining $420?
Ignorance is destroying America.
Healthcare needs to be a priority!!!
Anyone who has their corporate office making programs that THEY don't have to use knows about that.
i still find it hard to believe how a developed country like the US doesn't see universal healthcare as a basic human right!
the NHS isn't perfect, but im so glad im from a country where i have the piece of mind to know i have access to health care no matter what
Just one question.... why all shown doctors in the background are indian?
Jayant Chaurasia 'Cause they're the only good doctors.
+rosedaline valetine False.
Jayant Chaurasia
We are going to repeal and replace them, let me tell you. We are going to have doctors so white that Norway will be jealous. Its going to be tremendous
Jayant Chaurasia because indiands are the only ones who are smart enough to make education a priority. hence trump as a presidential candidate
LEAD and STYROFOAM Plans...priceless lol.
This does not feel like the right time... but you sir are charismatic as HELL
"If anyone knows the importance of young people helping old people, it's Hillary." Went right over the crowds head.
I got a daily show ad before this video.
As a Britain looking at this really does make you appreciate the NHS (free health care).
Honestly I think if we spent less on the military and invested more on our people here we would be better off. Bernie Sanders had a solid plan
Stop ObamaCare, let insurance companies to compete each other, and benefit people!
You mean like Internet Service Providers already do?
/sarcasm
This is why current health-care organizations have systems in place to deny high-risk subscribers, while hiking-up prices for those who experience an accident.
more like benefit themselves
You are right, there has never been such a thing called insurance fraud
In my country i maybe pay like 15 euros (16,47 dollars) a month for my healthcare, is that too much for americans to handle?
NIELS MICHIELS thats great. we want it too, but morons will not vote in the people who want to pass it
American companies charge way more than 15 euros. if it was 15 euros no one would complain and government wouldn't need to intervene.
Isabelle M.
I think he was making a sarcastic joke XD
On another note it's a shame that the Republican Party can't see why a universal health care plan is a good one
Dear Americans is this a correct sentence: „[...] getting rid of immediately Obama Care!“ ? In School I learned that the the tense comes at the beginning or the end of the sentence. So please tell me.
No, seriously; just don't even try to analyze Trump's grammar... It'll just make everyone more depressed.
Konst Saalfeld
Is this a joke or are you genuinely asking for help? Well anyway:
Spelling:
American
Beginning
Grammar:
"Get rid of Obama immediately!"
1"the"
"at the beginning or the end"
Other than that it's ok.
Obama pauses, but his sentence structure doesn't fail catastrophically.
This is not something that can be said for Trump.
Americans, lets live without govermental healthcare, and lets creat America's funniest Home Videos......................
and Jackass
get on Air India for ur medical care from now on....
So... we immediately get rid of Obamacare. Then we're going to come up with a new system so great that nobody has even thought of it yet. And then we are going to get Congress to pass this new system. Should be up and running in about 50 years.
Dumpster Dude 2016
I've paid car insurance for 47 yrs, never made a claim but continue to put up with rate increases bc of bad drivers. That's life
Wow, 12 days away from president trump... WHOOO! 'MURICA BBY!
12 days until Trump gets fucking curbstomped.
Keep drinking the Trump kool-aid m8. I'm sure it'll help.
5Oblivion yeah!!!!!
No, the problem with ACA is that it isn't public. It isn't a good idea to expect companies to pay for your medical care when it is in their best interest to not pay.
is it just me or are all those doctors In that pic Indians
Yeah, also though so
US has many Indian doctors and surgeons. It's the norm.
wait. they are omg lol
gigi stoner US has many Indian everything
I thought the same lol
I have witnessed the positive effects that making healthcare finally available and affordable has created for Americans.
So many Americans don't have to suffer through an illness or dread that something gravely serious could be affecting their health. Its great to have this, it is a very progressive and positive decision for our country. A lot of lives have been saved by preexisting condition regulation.
If the original plan wouldn't have been compromised by the Republican party over and over, and the plan preceded (the way it was intended to be) "I would have coverage". When I signed into Healthcare.gov for the first time I was excited, but whilst trying to get some help I was informed of Tennessee's choice
and that no relief could be given.
They could have made that possible in Washington. I live in one of the 18 states that have not extended Medicaid eligibility and I can't figure out why. In Tennessee 2 year free community college tuition is offered now, ????? so it couldn't be the cost... right? I remember the government shutdown over this. It astounded
me.
I guess I understand. In that context, Obamacare is still better than nothing
ofcourse nobody likes to be TOLD what to do. shouldnt americans out of themselves decide to pay as a group for eachother instead of being FORCED? good stuff to think about
Basically americans did not realize something which other people fought succesful for since at least the 1870's
Was it just me who noticed the stock photo they used to depict doctors were all Indians 🤔😱😱
huh
Mathew George Ya but it's a "good" stereotype. What's wrong with Indians being successful doctors.
I'm worried that if trump gets elected I'll loose health care and when something like that or worse happens again I won't be able to get treated.
just jump to single payer. fu(k it
I had my health insurance license, scored a 93 on the exam on the first try, the reason I'm humble bragging is so that you know that I know my sh**, oh and I stayed in a holiday inn express last night so I reaally know it.
This isn't disneyland so get out of here with the Mickey Mouse sh**.
wow, i'm so fast that no one has not even clicked the unlike button....
*dislike
Annisa Adiba what is the meaning
And your grammar is so horrible, that no one has not even been able to correct it not.
I think he was making a joke.
D4RKBRU73 s0rry f0r b31ng stup1d :)
Exactly. We need to get the insurance companies out of health care. They are making millions that could otherwise be spent on health care.
There are plans you never heard of .... because they haven't even been thought of. Wow, another genius statement, a stable one for sure. You can't beat logic !
getting a john oliver vibe from his videos these days
Okay, nice to Americans are still against basic human rights.
Young people aren't getting coverage because they can't afford it.
Man, that was the first time that Obama actually seemed to be struggling during a speech.
did trevor say "flailing" instead of failing in 7.26? i feel like i heard flailing
me too but flailing is still a fitting word
he could us either, flailing is often accompanied by a last ditch effort to save one's self when failing.
One thing not being pointed out enough in this coverage is that this doesn't affect the vast majority of Americans who get health insurance from their employer, and that the ones that do get health care that way are actually still paying substantially more on average than the people who get their health care from the ACA, even with the price hikes.
Single payer is the only solution. No More #HealthcareForProfit
We all knew that by the end of the video it would all lead to Trump and making fun of him
Typical hey, but maybe USA wants Comedians to run the WH.
If it had wheels, Congress would be the biggest clown car in history.
*sees dude land on lightbulb* NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
Last time i get sick. Going to the doctor and getting some medicine . Guess what i paid, nothing.
I'm libertarian, not republican... but HOLY HELL, does NO ONE who has watched this video understand why republicans don't want healthcare?? HERE is why:
1. FUCK THAT
How come we have to have car insurance by law? Why do medical cost raise so much faster then all other items in our economy?
we cant watch your show in germany.
biased show
Mario Navarro
?
Heinz Erhard don't worry he's a trump supportr
Comedy Central is pretty biased toward the left, probably because it's run by educated people.
what does that have anything to do with what i said? are you shure you are responding to the right comment?^^
From Europe: this is incredibly depressing. And what a stupid idea it is to not have chosen the public option.
Why the doctors in that picture are all Indians?
idisappear911 Ever look at the list of PCPs available on your health plan? My PCP is Indian and rather large percentage of doctors in the US are.
idisappear911 to saved mo money, thank you obama👺
cuz immigrants be hardcore
i live in france and i have never paid for any medication my whole life. everything is covered 100%.
This is a very sensible analogy that should be spread more. You and your team are doing a phenomenal job.
I think managing healthcare market hikes would go much further in reducing healthcare costs. No one should have to pay $250 for an epi pen that's only worth $15.
Question for the US here (and i might simplify it a bit too much here):
Why don't you look at other countries? Look at Denmark. They have very high taxes, among the highest in the world, nearing 50%. That sounds bad, but when you look at what they get in return, you might think again:
- Education: largely funded by taxes
- Healthcare: Almost entirely funded by taxes
- paid marental-leave
- care for the elderly
- disabled people (with handicaps) can get social benefits
Taxes are not bad...
Boom! solved. (it is simplified, i know... but this is the basis)
Why doesn't the US look at how other countries have Healthcare. Ask them; How do you do it? I am 100% sure that other countries would love to help the US out. But the main problem with the US is that they think: "We're the US. We don't need nobody. USA USA USA!! Best country in the world!"
What do you do when you don't know how it works?
However, Maine and Nebraska each have a variation of 'proportional representation.'" - National Archives
Vote to swing the vote. Every state except two are swing states. Just vote!
I use to be healthy : young, no alcohol, not overweight, sport, no smoking, etc
But guess what!
That last scene was brutal.
I'm English and I don't understand why the Americans would boo having free or subsidised medical care? Is there a reason for this? Surely you would want free or at least cheap healthcare?
Good god that poor lady at the end!! I just hope she has anything to cover her!
I just love you Trevor...you make me laugh every time..
I love you man keep staying truthful and upfront
Great job Trevor.
I get my news from Trevor and I'm proud 2 say it!
If you want to fix health care in the US, you need to fix how hospitals get to charge over 100 times of nanufacturer price on a bag of IV. Producing a bag of IV cost around $1.07. With this in mind check your hospital bill if you got an IV before. It will show charging you in hundreds.
The Federal Food Stamp program doesn't work well either, they use an outdated system that needs to be fixed
Lol I swear I spit my spit out in laughter at that last bit where the Donald was "plans that haven't even been thought about yet"
Even the none Obamacare plans are going up and have new costs, it's not just the Affordable Care Act plans. Paying more for less in all the insurance plans.
In nature, when something requires a healthy host to survive, it's often (not always, but often) called a parasite
if everyone in the us paid into healthcare it would be affordable and work,
