I'll be honest i thought the video was gonna be about how the story beats of the film lie to the viewer. For example, Howard wins the bet, his colonoscopy results were good and he reunites with Julia(not the best person in the world but at least it's someone) It makes you think that everything will work out for Howard but they ultimately don't because he's a terrible person who took too many risks.
The opening scene in Ethopia was among the best in the film. If it had been written badly it could have been incongruous, but instead, with its cacophony of voices and vulnerable camera angles surrounded by furious people, it encapsulates the chaos of the film. And then we come out of Howard's colon. He treats everyone like shit and he thinks we're shit too. Through happenstance and "wrong" ideas they created a magnificent opening sequence.
Stasis Although that works as an analogy, I mainly think the colonoscopy scene - and the other times he is seen concerned about his health - is trying to show that Howard is actually concerned about his mortality. but the gemstone obscured that, leading to his series of self destructive decisions
idk man, they feel pretty out of place to me. it's probably those two scenes that left me disoriented for almost the entire movie. it only started coming together for me in the last betting scene. super good movie though.

Cheers from Singapore! I already grew Safdie's films after Good Time. It was very raw and genuine film making. Then Uncut Gem. Really intense drama till the end.
Things were moving so fast that you hardly had time to consider the gut punching realities of what just happened in each scene. It wasn't a shot for shot pulse pounding movie where the score emphasizes important scenes. Or where one scene felt insanely critical.
