Thank you for the comparison, Mark. This goes to show just how much every quad can benefit from a little tuning or at least a preset on any firmware. Not to mention each quad is a little different. Even my 5" Apex quads are tuned slightly different to try and achieve peak flight performance.
nice comparison! thx Mark! Be great to add comparison of forward flight stability across the throttle range (horizon jitter) in a slow 0-100% throttle ramp with no stick input. this is what a lot of people continue to complain about these days, especially cinelifter guys. I realize this is related to a lot of factors, but be nice to add in the mix on same quad (same hardware) across different firmwares.
4.3 with 'By RPM' PWM on BLHeli32 has made a old problem quad fly perfect in that regard. I was always tuning around mid throttle oscillations and/or horizon jitter and could never find myself perfectly happy with the non-stabilized footage. Now its damn near perfect!
Awesome video! If you want raw power AND you know how to tune, use betaflight, but me, I love the feel I get from kiss, I'm not Awesome at tuning. It does seem that kiss "or fettec" esc's trade power for that smooth feeling bc its not as powerful but love the feel. I've got the kiss 25amp 4in1 on several builds running 6s 1950kv motors and no issues.
I wish people flew more of their own tunes instead of the hypersmooth. Especially with the 4.30, it flies so good cutting FOV for stabilization is almost insulting.
@@MCsCreations Well, we all agree for cinematic stuff it's ok. But if you're trying to improve yourself, nothing keeps you as honest and humble as your non-stabilized footage 😁
Top. Hoping you've seen Rosser esc comparison today. I prefer a scientific approach. You will not persuade anyone who has paid a fortune for kiss etc that a freebie is better. It won't compute as its not the norm. Many thanks.
We all know that on the stock they are terrible. I'm more interested in seeing them all pushed to the edge. Thank you for the videos. I know they take a lot of time to do them.
I’ve found that most guys actually don’t tune at all, so this is pretty informative to see the differences at stock setting,as that is what most guys tend to fly. I personally can’t leave a tune alone haha I’m always tweaking one of my rigs
What’s your best hypothesis as to why people prefer KISS/FETTEC over BF? Like I get that some of it is hype-driven, but it can’t be ALL hype, right? I feel like some people legitimately get good or better results with it but I don’t understand why when your testing uniformly shows it to be inferior. Just doesn’t make sense. Could it all just be placebo and/or lack of objectivity? Seems like a stretch to suggest that everyone who likes those firmwares has an agenda.
Trying to explain humans sometimes is a fool's errand. F1, Helio, ButtFlight all had evangelists that say things that just don't add up. So, I would say, it's a human tendency for tribalism what you want to put a pin on it.
@@uavtech I don’t want it to be just tribalism and hype - I want better things as much as the next guy - but I’m sorta concluding the same. Pretty sure Occam’s razor never dulls, after all… PS - isn’t the expression “a fool’s errand”? I hope I haven’t been saying that wrong this whole time…
Different defaults feel different. I think a lot of why KISS feels different and why I prefer it on my freestyle rigs is KISS/FETTEC doesn't seem to do much filtering on the RC commands. 1k gyro/pid loop probably also has something to do with it. When I turned my rc input filtering off, or really low in betaflight it really start to feel like KISS/Fettec. Its not tribalism when I always reach for my KISS/FETTEC rig over my Betaflight rig when I goto fly freestyle. There is a feeling thats hard(BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE) to replicate on Betaflight. ESC firmware is also likely playing a role in why people prefer kiss/fettec for freestyle.
The problem is in no way is it smooth. RC steps are choppy. My issue is every KISS taking point I have heard just doesn't add up. To each their own, but ...
Awesome flying and testing, Mark! Thanks! 😃 Pretty interesting results indeed! And thanks for all the tips about tuning! Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

thats was a nice practical pid tuning guide
Awesome 👌 can't wait for the no bb tuning video thanks boss
how to tell the difference between bounceback fast and bounceback slow? I hard to distinguishing
Solid objective review.
That was a great comparison video. 😎
great comparison and explanations.
Nice work, bubba. Looking forward to seeing how good your alpha tune is. Was these kiss and fettec test done on the f7 from fettec?
Yes. F7
Awesome 👍👍👍👍 would love to see your approach of tuning different fcs without blackbox 👍👍👍

U don't need to know how to tune though. The default is just better.

Not trying to persuade.
But the fact is more heads (devs) seem to be better than one?
Wrong choice of word.
I don't think you are. I do like being presented with scientific facts to make informed choices.
Yup. Fly what ya want, just want to get facts straight.
Pure technical and mathematical facts. 👍👌 Unfortunately, not suitable for some people. 😉🙃😁
