I can't wait for Alpha 2 just for the ability to have your own plot and I'm very interested in the crafting as a casual person especially the animal husbandry.
@Liniker180 your right to be honest, they said that in a monthly update didn't they, you will need a zerg to be able to own land and upkeep alone, sad times they are catering for the zergs as appose to a 4 man, which is usually the max group I play in...
Unless you play in a mega guild and can devote 14+ hours a day you'll have no plot. Ohh and BTW they are still selling Plot accessories on the website knowing that 95% or more of the playerbase won't be able to have one. SCAM mode activate.
After New World, I can’t really get excited about tab target/directional target games, which is unfortunate cause it looks like a really nice world to explore.
@jay-ti4bt what isn't wrong with that dumpster fire of a studio. I can go on for days what's wrong with the game. The only good thing I can say is it's pretty and has good sounds on mining.
Agreed with everything you've said here. The open world PVP mechanics, the hybrid combat style, how they handle the node system .. all of these factors could make or break the game for many people. And while I have been known to back games on Kickstarter or in early access before, this one is too rich for my blood. I have no doubt a game will come out that some may love but I'm not sure if I will be among those lovers. I'm fine hanging back and waiting longer to find out.
What would make or break it for me is the world PvP, and a structured PvP ranking system. In New World, most players had PvP turned off, even though it'd give you a levelling exp bonus with it on, and there wasn't any structured PvP gameplay with a ranking system, at least on launch when I played. I'd go out into the world levelling, the exploration was boring, there was no other players around to fight and kill. There was a decently big world, but it was completely empty with nothing to do. I want zones I can go into and attack everyone I can see, world PvP is my favorite part, structured ranked PvP is my second, and dungeon/raid content is my third.
ehhh. 2024 and it'll still be in alpha. We've got years to go before the game is released and in the mean time I don't care with what ever hype the devs/ content creators do for the game. I'll get excited once it's complete and the announce a release date.
200+ hours to level up - I'm casual and that is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm so tired of blasting through levels because it's catering to easily leveling. I want to obtain (or craft) an item while leveling that has some significance for many hours of leveling and not just dematerialized into a worthless dust the day after I obtain it!
I was in the alpha's for New World. I said, not ready, needs another two years at least. Didn't listen. Bad Start. I was in the Alpha 1 for Ashes of Creation. I said it's likely to be two years at least until A2, because they want most of the systems in place, but it will very likely last a year or two once it starts. So far it seems on track to me. THAT SAID, the AoC A1 test was 999.999% better than NW ever was in ANY of their Alpha tests. I'm an old gamer who's done lots of software testing, not just games, although my first Beta test was Merdian59. I have very little hope left, and almost all of it is invested in AoC.
Thank you for this very interesting video. My main fear is the amount of skills accumulated with about twenty buttons.... I'm not an octopus with 8 arms and some modern MMOs have limited the number of skills and are fun (GW2...)
9:30 I think the majority of MMO players are aware of and ready for the grind/time sink and they want to spend time developing their character. I think 200 hours is relatively low to get max level in an MMO. Runescape takes up to 50 hours to max a single skill to 99, and there are like what 23 skills? Runescape is much more niche and I'd say less popular these days than it was in the mid-late 2000's. But I'm also thinking of my first character in WoW, who I had /played 19 days and some hours when I was level 67 in Burning Crusade back in the day (that's 19 days worth of in game time played on that character). That's over double the projected 200 hours in AoC and I wasn't even max level yet. I think that was probably a lot of players experience in WoW, especially newer players who didn't know what they were doing but just wanted to go out and explore the world and have fun. I don't get the casual players MMO experience argument personally. I think the genre is designed to be a time sink and "Second Life" type of experience. If it's designed for casuals like current WoW is, then the game becomes too easy and quick for players who spend more time in game. I think there are better games for "casual" gamers to play if they don't have the time or desire to sink hours into the game. And I think it takes away from the experience of more dedicated players, when a game caters to casuals. I think that was a massive downfall of WoW personally, because they stripped away a lot of the game to make it more accessible for casuals. And in the end Blizzard wanted more casuals playing because it was more money in their pockets. It's worth being said that I don't think grinding is fun either just for the sake of grinding. If there's a large time investment involved then you should get a proper reward for that time, which makes it worth it.
I love new world . But there expansion pack should have had two or three new zones . Mounts were great , but not enough for expansion . But I will keep playing till ashes comes out
as for people having opinions about the game because of A2 and disliking it, I feel that everyone who chooses not to play have a right to their opinion, but thankfully they won't be around. I really want players who WANT to be there playing. People have gotten too spoiled and Investment should be a thing again. /EDIT I want to tell you, A1 was designed for Network Optimization data collection, A2 should be smooth.
To have non tab target and tab target together, that's an interesting balancing act. Also jay now you have experienced with new world, you can see the whole raft of problems, and how long it takes to make changes to key mechanics when they don't work as designed .

The best thing they could do is ditch the always on pvp mode. This will push the majority of their playerbase out, not being able to opt in to pvp. unfortunately there is no longevity ina solely pvp based mmo... games continue to come out and prove that. Let's take a look at New World, and the 180 it did from alpha-beta to launch...they had to create a whole pve game to balance it out. If AoC doenst do that, the hype is going to kill the game faster than anything before
It will probably leech a large niche of players. Probably a bunch of players scattered over multiple games. The modern crossover with survival games and full loot pvp games will probably help the game. Other games coming out seem to be attempting to segment different zones to cater to different audiences. We will have to see which approach works better.
I’m honestly excited for the pvp cuz my goal in new world was to be so tanky and be able to heal so much in pvp it would need 3 people to focus me to kill me, but after 700 hours of new world I never reached my goal and got bored so I’m hoping I can do it in ashes of creation
People just need to accept when a game isn't for them and move on. Instead they shit on it for whatever reason to justify their own game choice. Not every mmo needs to be the next WoW in terms of success.

I appreciate your content but the title of your videos are getting a little click bait esque and borderline false. This one and the pax dei titles are pushing it a bit far.
I think that it is a given that the mass audience will not enjoy AoC. The game is not designed for the "modern" player and has no financial need to cater to their playstyles. The development of the game is an unrivaled success at this point, as it has already been funded. If no one plays the game at launch, it will not be a failure. Most of the people in the broader community who have been attracted to the game in the last two years have projected upon it their own preconceptions as to what an "MMORPG" is and their expectations will absolutely not be fulfilled. This is the constant refrain that has been heard on forums and social media: "Game X does PvP/PvE/Crafting/Quests/Etc this way and that's the way that AoC should do it." AoC will be the game that SS has designed. It's the game that HE wants to play. All other opinions, in the final analysis, approach irrelevancy. The broader MMO community should expect to be disappointed, rebuffed, and outraged. AoC will not be a world wide phenomenon.
I completely agree. Everyone gets their hopes up and then when the games finally releases and the hype dies off after a few months then it becomes just another niche MMO. This game will not have any more average players than new world in 6 months after releasing. They simply take too long to get things done and dev teams seem too small to make a Goliath of a game and keep people interested.
@@WhoFlungDung This is based on literally zero knowledge or evidence. "Dev team seems too small" They're pushing 200, WoW had 40 for a large portion of it's development and only around 80 when it released. Valheim had 5 developers and it was one the largest successes for it's genre and sits at over 12 million copies in sales. It's also slightly stupid to say or agree that the mass audience will not enjoy the game. It's an open development game. There's more than enough information out about the game to determine if you will enjoy it or not based on the concepts. Obviously, that will be determined as well if they are capable of pulling it off.
@@Babayugah Jesus, someones feelings got hurt. The game looks mediocre at best and I doubt it will change much. We'll see a year after release if it's a fail or not, if it ever releases that is.. I wouldn't bet on it doing any better than what New World is doing right now.
@@WhoFlungDung My feelings are hurt because you have zero understanding of game development and make stupid comments? Sure, we can go with that. New World was garbage at launch & still doesn't look fun. Lack of depth in literally anything in that game. I think it'll do a little better :D
@@Babayugah Nope, not a stupid comment, an honest opinion on what I see and judging by all the "WoW killers" that failed miserably over the last 2 decades I would be safe to assume this will fair the same. You're under the impression that I want it to fail, incorrect.. I just don't see anything mind blowing or revolutionary to the MMO genre and with how long it's taking, I don't expect this game to be the exception. If I'm wrong then I'll play it and I'll play it for years, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Btw, unless you're are developer yourself, then you have no idea about it anymore than I do and even if you did it wouldn't change the cycle of history where these games end up being subpar and end up with a lower niche player base. I wish we could bet money on this, I wonder how much you'd throw down 🤣
I’ve been playing triple A games for years, they always ruined in some ways because of the businessmen sucking the life out of the game for speedy profits. With all the companies that have shit on us, support ashes.
@@RMartian76 you don't know that, theres no modern mmos with open world pvp that is 3rd person and is an actual mmorpg, but we have mmos like EVE, going strong after 20 years with a +100k playerbase being an old niche hardcore ship game, and thriving full loot games like rust in the market, so yea
I am the opposite. If there is no open world pvp except some small out the way niche areas whats the point. Open world pvp is to me what makes the game dangerous and exciting.
AoC is one of those games that has never even hit my radar. I have my doubts it will ever even release and that this is just a game to keep developers employed and build resumes. They are ambitious in some of the things I have been hearing about and some of the stuff just seems like it wont survive very long if it does launch.
Only spend 250 dollars, it use to be 500. Signs they are already willing to compromise for a larger player base. That mentality will eventually seep itself in to more decisions in the future and the game will not be as it is advertised now. One day a game for hardcore and the next casual so they can keep the lights on
This is what year 7 and second alpha if it isn’t spectacular then the click bait money grabbing content creators will decimate it for revenue that is what has dropped so many games that are good and the mindless lemmings will go to the next one
the potential this game has is insane. Tempering my hope-ium because New World also had/has tons of potential, but it's been made very clear by now that NW will simply not be able to live up to it. The one thing they said that gives me reason to hope is they they have increased their staff up to 170 devs now. Q3 will tell :)
Think about it this way, technically, the potential of every game coming out is insane. 99.9% of them don't live up to the potential. At best, I hope this game is as fun as New World is (until the dreadful "endgame").
Saying AoC could fail and still hoping for new world to do something good is kinda fuc@#$ up lolll... Sure AoC hasn't proved anything really yet ... but geez ... st least AoC is refreshing for the MMO community and respectfully to it...
wdym "all the systems or all the core systems"? it is said multiple times that a2 WONT have the naval system at launch, nor nodes to the max level. we wont be able to hit either max lvl on our characters. and prob like 2 classes will be left out summoner at the launch/start of a2 and maybe nor the bard one. also a2 wont launch on the full map of aoc. (there are other things that I mentioned as well) so when you go and make a video and state big words like ALL THE CORE SYSTEMS at the start and later at 03:10 you said the FULL CONTENT. please, do your job correctly and stop missleading people to thinking that a2 will launch with everything that aoc has to offer.-
I didn't mean to imply it was the full game and I could have been more clear that obviously things will change but I do say that alpha is not the final build.
@jayoddity look mate, I just watched until 3:20 cause then you were talking about full content, and it kinda triggered me cause I m following aoc since kickstarter and I want it to succeed (one can call me a fanboy of this mmo that it's not out yet) I got strong feelings for it hence the correction. I might came out a bit more aggressive than I wanted, that's on me.
@@jimmyn7t No worries, I might not get everything right in my videos, and happy to be corrected but I did legitimately research that exact topic. I haven't watched every single update video, so I might have missed some things for sure.
It's not releasing in 2024. 2025 at earliest and I'm not sold on the game yet. I'm still wary of games where other players can steal your stuff or everything you built can be destroyed in a war. It's just ripe for abuse. 24 years of MMO's and a majority of players are about building up and enjoying the game, not rebuilding, etc. They're shooting for a very broke and very cheap playerset with PVP, but at the same time are not really offering players who want stability in a game when the world is so chaotic. They'll stick with WoW, Guild Wars 2, or 14.
It already looks dated and the movement is clunky. I honestly don’t see it reaching to the hype. Maybe if it were released 5 years ago, but now? Looks like 2015 game tbh
@@VeliarsonDoes not look promising to YOU, it is fine. It is your opinion and not a fact. I can atleast share it does look promising to me and looking forward to follow this games progress.
8 years I reckon is fair amount of time for full release, it's been 8 years now and it's not even in second stage of alpha, how much time do they want? 😂
@@varietynews3512 The Alpha 2 is kinda a big deal. I think that the game is supposed to be completely persistent at that point. It’s like an Early Access launch. In order for them to go into A2, most of the key systems need to be functioning.
My main interest in this game is to see how it will not remotely live up to the hype. I've followed it like everyone else and it all looks ... okay ... very generic in a lot of ways. People can think that because this game is made by "indie" studio that it can "do what it wants" and doesn't have to cater towards making money but the game has to make money. The most money comes from the most players, not the niche, unless the niche is all whales.
With the $250 pack - you get A2/Beta1&2 access. 6 months subscription time, $100 cash shop currency (cosmetic only) & several cosmetics as well. It's not JUST for Alpha access. Though, if the other things are irrelevant to you, then yes it seems less worth it.
No game can make a better combat then gw2 no game ! I played all the game from wow until new world and gw2 is by far best and hard to master combat in all games .
It'll be exciting for a month. Then it'll die like all other MMO's because it takes it's inspiration from a failed MMO called Aion and has an always on PvP system. Those are the biggest hurdles it faces for supremacy but there are tens of other concerns a lot have with the game. From the lien the state of California placed on Steven Shariff. To the backtracking on purchasable items for your plots, to the way only whales can compete in the server economy. I ain't calling this a game a scam in the same way The Day Before was but it is pretty damned close and a cursory glance at any MMO sub-Reddit, or MMO/Gaming forum site will show you the vast majority are apprehensive at best about the game.
It doesn't take inspiration from Aion. Nice try though. Also, if the corruption system is implemented properly, it won't be a gank fest out in the open world like Aion was despite that game not being relevant to the development of Ashes. "Purchasable items for your plots" - literally EVERYTHING that has been sold is purely cosmetic. any MMO sub reddit or gaming forum are a bunch of trolls who don't put effort into researching for a proper opinion. Good talk though :D
@@Babayugah Steven has literally said on multiple occasions that AoC's main inspiration comes from Aion and other Failed Eastern MMO's. You have a naive opinion on the role of open world PvP. No system ever put in place will stop griefing and ganking. It is a fact, AoC will devolve into a PvE'ers worst nightmare.
@@Zederok Show me a quote that Ashes' main inspiration comes from Aion. Go on, I'll wait. You have a naive opinion on the blanket concept of open world PvP. Majority of people do it because it's entertaining, not for rewards. Offer that entertainment elsewhere that has the potential for rewards and then it becomes less of an issue. I'm not saying it won't happen, but the frequency in which all the people who whine about open world PvP is less likely lol.
@@Babayugah Steven has mentioned in the past as Aion being the main inspiration. It is a well known fact. Open world PvP has never been successful. It will severely limit the playerbase for AoC for no good reason. I'm done, arguing and won't respond any more so quit being a twit.
The path this game is following is a lot like The Day Before. We will see how this finally goes when it releases someday. It was also hyped as one of the best looking MMOs when it was announced but I wonder how this will hold up seeing this will release year and years later.

Hopefully we can get a steady player base like WoW, I see new world is down to 18k average after all its efforts.
Smart. Jump from the new world wreckage onto the new mmo wagon xD
You are right, if I will be forced to PvP then I don't want to play the game. They need to get that right. Thumbs up for the videos!
it is right, you don't need to play the game, its for those who like forced pvp
@@Liniker180 Which is a tiny fraction of the MMO base, so I guess AoC wants to shoot itself in the foot?
@@RMartian76 you don't know that, theres no modern mmos with open world pvp that is 3rd person and is an actual mmorpg, but we have mmos like EVE, going strong after 20 years with a +100k playerbase being an old niche hardcore ship game, and thriving full loot games like rust in the market, so yea
I am the opposite. If there is no open world pvp except some small out the way niche areas whats the point. Open world pvp is to me what makes the game dangerous and exciting.
damn they moving slow... still only alpha 2 in fall 24 -_____- late 25 release no doubt
AoC is one of those games that has never even hit my radar. I have my doubts it will ever even release and that this is just a game to keep developers employed and build resumes. They are ambitious in some of the things I have been hearing about and some of the stuff just seems like it wont survive very long if it does launch.
Imagine putting this much time and effort to a scam seems like they are actually working ?! Durrrrrrrrrr a scam is the day before mmo.
Most of the devs are vets from the mmo industry no resumes need to be built. It could still fail but your assumption is incorrect
I dont think former everquest 1 lead designer Bill Trost has a need to build a resume, not to mention the others
Yes, the Creative Director is putting tens of millions of his own money to build other people's resumes.
Only spend 250 dollars, it use to be 500. Signs they are already willing to compromise for a larger player base. That mentality will eventually seep itself in to more decisions in the future and the game will not be as it is advertised now. One day a game for hardcore and the next casual so they can keep the lights on
Smh
Same thing happened to new world. Game used to be way harder and now it's babyfied
This is what year 7 and second alpha if it isn’t spectacular then the click bait money grabbing content creators will decimate it for revenue that is what has dropped so many games that are good and the mindless lemmings will go to the next one
They started with less than a dozen people at the end of 2015 :)
I believe AOC releases in 2052.
Is AoC going to have a trinity?
Yes
@@jayoddity Nice!
Release time
the potential this game has is insane. Tempering my hope-ium because New World also had/has tons of potential, but it's been made very clear by now that NW will simply not be able to live up to it. The one thing they said that gives me reason to hope is they they have increased their staff up to 170 devs now. Q3 will tell :)
Definitely don't get your hopes up. These dev teams in mmos seem too small to push out content fast enough.
I'm not a massive new world defender and I'm hopeful for ashes
wdym "all the systems or all the core systems"? it is said multiple times that a2 WONT have the naval system at launch, nor nodes to the max level. we wont be able to hit either max lvl on our characters. and prob like 2 classes will be left out summoner at the launch/start of a2 and maybe nor the bard one. also a2 wont launch on the full map of aoc. (there are other things that I mentioned as well) so when you go and make a video and state big words like ALL THE CORE SYSTEMS at the start and later at 03:10 you said the FULL CONTENT. please, do your job correctly and stop missleading people to thinking that a2 will launch with everything that aoc has to offer.-
I literally quoted steven from the wiki page, it's representive of the systems.
On this page it mentions navel content - ashesofcreation.wiki/Alpha-2 - If I got something wrong fait enough but I can cite my source.
*grabs popcorn* oh boy this should be a good one 😅
Solid video.
This is the day before 2.0.
Explain
@@Babayugah they milked tons of money out of people for skins and keys and whatever else way pre-launch, and then quit updating their site in July
I am not claiming it's coming in 2024 mate. Just Alpha 2. The gap from Alpha 1 to Alpha 2 was 3 years!
@@jayoddityI wasnt saying you were lol!
It already looks dated and the movement is clunky. I honestly don’t see it reaching to the hype. Maybe if it were released 5 years ago, but now? Looks like 2015 game tbh
its not even the final look of the game tho, fyi
@@mikoyb.1291 yeah I know it will be polished probably but it just doesn’t look promising
@@VeliarsonDoes not look promising to YOU, it is fine. It is your opinion and not a fact.
I can atleast share it does look promising to me and looking forward to follow this games progress.
@@mucool328 I certainly hope you are right. I want great mmorpg so bad. I’m just cocious to be excited
Imo it’s already broken. Too much hype and way too long for delivery.
It's an mmo ... what "delivery time" do you think is reasonable?
8 years I reckon is fair amount of time for full release, it's been 8 years now and it's not even in second stage of alpha, how much time do they want? 😂
@@varietynews3512 The Alpha 2 is kinda a big deal. I think that the game is supposed to be completely persistent at that point. It’s like an Early Access launch.
In order for them to go into A2, most of the key systems need to be functioning.
@Greg__K that's good news, but how long till beta 1 then once alpha 2 is out? In your opinion.
broken? how? care to explain further?
My main interest in this game is to see how it will not remotely live up to the hype. I've followed it like everyone else and it all looks ... okay ... very generic in a lot of ways.
People can think that because this game is made by "indie" studio that it can "do what it wants" and doesn't have to cater towards making money but the game has to make money. The most money comes from the most players, not the niche, unless the niche is all whales.
So you're following the project to see it fail? Sounds like you need a hobby my guy
This game was so promising but they fell off a cliff
Cliff? Explain what cliff
@@kingarklingar they haven't even updated their website since July 14
Wait 250$ for ALPHA? Hahaha, that is hilarious
I played all the game from wow until new world and gw2 is by far best and hard to master combat in all games .
u think too much lol
Having deeply followed both games and devs .. this is nothing like the path the day before took... at all.
This statement 😅 do you cook your brain in the microwave?
This game is a complete joke
