    During our family's "lean years", our mother frequently fed us plain flour & water pancakes... The same ingredients as in her wallpaper paste... & paper machete.
    No wonder they "stuck to our ribs!" 😨
    Love your program, your methods & creativity. Thank-you 😄

    With all this quarantine happening all around I got so much free time! lol! Your tips are very helpful! now I see where I went wrong. I guess small pieces of paper really is the trick instead of wanting to cover a big area all in one go. Also the tearing of the paper is really neat i usually fold it which turn out to be a crease and that's not pretty. I tried tearing them like you showed here, I got a really a smooth outcome. Thank you very much!

      Hi Ana. I have a PDF pattern for the cow - you print it and past it onto cardboard, cut it out, and tape it together. It isn't a 'mold' exactly, but it does create all the shapes for you. You can find it here: www.ultimatepapermache.com/cow-mask

    When do you use the blue shop towels to do mache?

    • @UltimatePaperMache
      @UltimatePaperMache  Рік тому

      I haven't been using the shop towels lately, because the ones they're now selling aren't stretchy, like the old ones were. And the stretchiness was kind of the point of using them. I'm mostly using either newspaper or the brown paper from amazon.com boxes now.

    I love these paper mache videos, I can't really use clay, so do you think it would be a good idea to try to "clone" a doll and modify the clone to become a ball-jointed doll? (Taking it off the doll once dried and fortifying it underneath.)

    • @UltimatePaperMache
      @UltimatePaperMache  4 роки тому

      I'm not really a doll-maker, so I don't understand what you mean. You might want to ask an expert in the field.

    • @love2learn-itsastorynotasu40
      @love2learn-itsastorynotasu40 4 роки тому

      @@UltimatePaperMacheok, I was just wondering if you can replicate things by paper mache-ing it and then cutting it off and putting it back together. (but I tried it yesterday and it failed miserably lol) Thanks! I love your videos so much!

    • @UltimatePaperMache
      @UltimatePaperMache  4 роки тому +2

      @@love2learn-itsastorynotasu40 If there aren't any undercuts and the paper mache is strong enough (and completely dry) it can work. But even without undercuts, the paper mache tends to change shape as soon as it's cut apart, and putting it back together is tricky. If it's really important to make an exact copy, you would probably need to make a silicone mold first, and put your paper mache inside it - not an easy process, I'm afraid.

    • @UltimatePaperMache
      @UltimatePaperMache  2 роки тому

      Whatever sandpaper I happen to have on hand. You'll want to use a fairly fine grit, though, so you don't tear up the paper.

    wouldn't the paper mache paste without the salt get moldy? i heard that the salt in there is used to make it not moldy

    • @UltimatePaperMache
      @UltimatePaperMache  4 роки тому

      It can only get moldy if it stays wet. I always dry my paper mache as fast as possible. If you intend to use a lot of layers and you think it will take several days or longer to dry, the salt might slow down the mold. But the only way to stop mold is to make sure it doesn't have any water.

    Can you use corn starch?
    .

    • @UltimatePaperMache
      @UltimatePaperMache  3 роки тому

      Maybe. I tried it once and it took a long time to dry because the corn starch absorbed water from the air. But it's possible I didn't do it wrong, so give it a try.

      I make a clay sculpture, make a silicone mold of it, and then make multiple paper mache copies, cutting them into pieces and taping them together. With the entire process, including the instructions and videos, it takes about a month for each pattern, working full time.

    how do you make an armature with a animals open jaw sgowing teeth an tongue?

    • @UltimatePaperMache
      @UltimatePaperMache  2 роки тому

      Dan Reeder makes his dragon heads with crumpled paper, and when the first few layers of paper mache are dry he opens the mouth, takes out all the paper, and adds the teeth. You can see his work on the GourmetPaperMache channel. I rarely sculpt an animal with teeth showing. I prefer them to look happy instead of angry - that works better in my house. 😊

    • @UltimatePaperMache

      If you want to make one without my pattern, you can sculpt it with clay and then cover the clay with paper mache. I have a video that shows that process, but with an African mask instead of a cow. ua-cam.com/video/BBqBnrtAwUQ/v-deo.html
      I also have one showing how I made a Highland cow from scratch. I don't think I'd do it the same way again, but it worked. 😊 ua-cam.com/video/blo61rAfaGM/v-deo.html

    Can i make separate parts of a sculpture and later join them ?

    • @UltimatePaperMache
      @UltimatePaperMache  6 років тому

      Absolutely! I do that all the time. You can join them up with more strips of paper mache and paste. If you're putting the paper mache on separate forms and then removing the forms to create a hollow sculpture, be sure the paper mache is dry all the way through before removing the forms. If you don't, the pieces will change shape as they continue drying, and they won't line up properly when you try to put them together.
