I might be visual novel poisoned but I actually liked the CGs more than prerendered cutscreens. A CG can focus on the important emotions of the scene, the relief of Edelgard seeing that her teacher is still alive, the tragedy of one sibling having to kill the other. Really the only scene that I think that needed a prerendered was the ending which got one since it goes though a roller-coaster of emotions that can't be covered by only one CG.
@@sam7559 I don’t mind visual novel if it has voice acting. But CF needed some cutscenes. Like the javelin, dimitri, rheas speech, and a map with the agarthans.
The alt scene at Tailtean with Dimitri and Dedue being just a black background was a travesty. The emotions were so good and the dialogue between them was excellent, but a black background just hammered home how lazy the route felt.
@l.n.3372 I didn't have an issue with it being a black screen. Not everything needs to be shown. Going to use another FE game as an example, FE8. Part of the strength with Monica in FE 8 is that fact that we never see her and only get one line from her which adds to the screen compared to if IS made a sprite for her. If you need context for it play FE 8 since it's a great game in the series that isn't too long and explaining it would be a spoiler.
@sam7559 that isn't remotely comparable. I have played FE8 and I know what you're talking about. And this isn't anywhere near the same thing as the CF Tailtean dialogue between Dimitri and Dedue. Some things lose the emotional impact if they are a black screen, and this is one of them.
Nice video, keep it up! Crimson Flower was the first route I played and I completely agree with it being the Best and Worst at the same time LOL Looking forward for your videos on the other routes.

I dislike the writing of CF but I liked the idea of it, in theory. I just wish the writing was better handled. The eagles are my second favorite house after the lions. I enjoy most of the eagles students. I think there was wasted potential with them tho, as CF shafted all of them save for Byleth, Edelgard and Hubert. Ferdinand should have had a much larger role in the plot. And the route didn't do enough to show why they stay with Edelgard. Most students say they're just doing it for the professor instead of for Edelgard, which makes the whole route ring false as Edelgard isn't really winning them over if they stayed for Byleth. People give CF too much credit for being unique gameplay, but the only unique map in this route was Tailtean plains. Every other map was used in other routes too, such as Arianrhod in Dimitri's paralogue or Fhirdiad in Dimitri's route. Yes, the map objectives and starting positions vary slightly which is a nice change, but they're not as drastically different as people seemingly claim them to be. 3H as a whole just suffers too much from re used maps.
either route the in house units feel shoehorned in mostly. I like to saw it felt the most original gameplay wise yes 3h reuses a lot but skightky changing starting positions and all make it feel different I think it's a change good enought for the reused maps aside from SS and GD being word for word bar for bar.
@abeefypig re: the units, it's very different for CF vs the other routes. It makes sense that the lions would defend their homeland, the kingdom. Ditto for the deer and their homeland, the alliance. In SS, the eagles are opposing Edelgard and the empire. In AM, they're not fighting FOR Dimitri: they're fighting to defend their homeland. Ditto for VW and the deer. In CF tho, they are invading their former homelands. But CF doesn't justify why students would fight their homelands and invade their homelands. After all, Edelgard didn't convince them at all. They joined because of Byleth only.
@abeefypig unfortunately yes and that's part of why I dislike the writing in CF. In AM, Felix and the lions constantly say that they don't agree with Dimitri's actions, but the eagles are never allowed to challenge Edelgard. They just blindly do whatever she wants with questioning her morality. She never even tells them the truth about shit like the Agarthans destroying Arianrhod, but she falsely blames the church instead. But Dimitri tells his friends the truth about Edelgard being his stepsister, and he even takes their advice by meeting with Edelgard before the final battle. Dimitri respects his friends with trust in a way that Edelgard never did. Edelgard just wanted Byleth and nobody else.
Yeah it’s such a shame Crimson Flower didn’t get the resources it needed, it’s such a fun route but it’s held back by less maps. If they ever make a route split game like 3H again, I hope every route gets to be fleshed out and more unique!
