I made him a mortal savant he is great at dodging and making crits
@@procrazyman6853 I got crazy lucky with him and he has become a monster sniper for me to the point where he is/was critting almost every other attack so since he'd get two shots on most enemies he was pretty much guaranteed to crit.
Claude has a crit quote that says "Shall we dance?" when i heard that I decided that I HAD to make him the dancer.

@@shadowpixie01 Claude has Sword of Begalta which has compatibility with the Crest of Riegan. Otherwise, he is there just for the sword avoid and nothing else. Miraculously, his reason spell list is solid (It’s the same as Yuri’s). But yeah with a sacred relic as well, I expect he will perform amazingly.

I made Sylvain my dancer and it was the best thing ever from an in universe perspective. He had a March Ring so he could move the same amounts of spaces as a mounted unit. I imagined Sylvain running at full speed across an open field just to dance for Ingrid to give her another attack. Beautiful.

I gave every Mv to my Dancer Bernie, and she somehow move more distance then the mounted units.
I can image Bernie running like a headless chicken to her teammates to give then extra turns.

I saw a tumblr post with dancer Sylvain is that he is doing crits left and right.
Also with his VA in real life is a part time magician, makes sense for his budding talent of reason.

The fact that he has great charm & a hidden talent in Reason (Black Mag avoid +20) made me choose him as my dancer in my BL playthrough. He was underperforming as a cavalier anyways. plus he gets a unique dancer outfit too!

I picked Dorothea for my dancer, because she was the best pick character wise. But I did pick Flayn as my dancer for Blue Lions because she seemed like she really wanted to be one.
Dorothea also has meteor which allows her be potentially active offensively during player phase even if your squad went too farm from her. Her magic growth are enough that by the time you make her into a dancer her magic is still potent and you don't sacrifice a healer while gaining that juicy exp.
If Dorothea wasn't available (easy to recruit by chapter 4), I would pick Flayn if dorothea wasn't so good just because flayn is that bad of a unit.
- She doesn't have what it takes to be a flyer due to her strength growth (despite joining as a flyer ready character)
- Except for fortify (rank A mind you) and gimmicky rescue hit&run strat she doesn't have that good of a faith spell list (no physics, no warp) so if you use rescue because you fudged up you might as well use divine pulse for better effect
- Her reason spells are not cutting it considering you unlock minor wind spells until rank A (when she start E rank with budding talent asking that much investment)
- Her base stats at join time are weak as fudge and her growth isn't exceptionnal:
15mag for level 11 when your other units start at 11 mag for level 1 (meaning she leveled up her stat 40% of the time before recruiting) which not only is 1: behind other character level at this point but 2: the worst growth rate of all mage considering the only other is commoner dorothea so not considering future stat bonuses she might have received. Defenses are just as weak (4 more HP than level 1 dorother and 25% growth for only 10% more def growth) only the glass canon lysithea compare but at least lysithea has the speed not to get doubled by the world and can tank sustain using nosferatu with higher stats and better offensive spells for player phase if she tries to make use of the power she has.
But yeah, because I can recruit Dorothea and I can't have so many units covering similar utility (heal+ range offensive magic for safety (as I hate dodge tanking for how many reset it made me do due to Lyn in Blazing Blade)+armor melting) especially when Dorothea pack a bigger humph in spells, has access to both 3 range (no mage/beast counter) and long range (meteor) and finally early physics for easy exp and long range healing (while remaining inferior to fortify except for uses). Keep in mind that I'm using Dorothea because she's the lowest growth offensive mage out of magecore group and that she doesn't specialize well enough (Hubert/Lysithea Ultimate BossKiller and Mercedes AbsoluteHealer while Linhard warp utility and stacking that with dancing is a waste when you can dance to send an unit under steroids into ennemy lines in 1 turn by adding warp. And to the bench Flayn goes.
To be fair, Dorothea is the obvious choice while Flayn's really only good in a support role like dancer's.
As for me, I picked Leonie. Why? Because someone told me I needed a high charm but left out the part where I couldn't swap the class.
But nothing beats the classics, like Dimitri, Bernadetta, and Marianne (with gauntlets~)

I chose Flayn because i didnt want to impede on the class routes i had going in the Blue Lion Class. Plus she practically begged to dance in the competition. After weighing out her charm compared to my other characters i aquiesced to her wishes. She is an excellent utility unit with powerful magic!
My friend made Flayne his dancer on Edlegard’s route

For those who don’t know, if you choose Edlegard’s route you lose Flayne as a unit. He didn’t know and I enjoyed his suffering
Same thing happened to me. Worst thing about it was I was playing on a fresh Hard Classic file. Suffice it to say, that was an...enjoyable experience.

MrHdog111 he gets a pretty good spell list, making him a viable Dark Knight for a master class! I made him dark knight in my last BL run and he was my second main tank for the first half of the game after Bow knight Leonie
While Dorothea excels as a dancer, I still think it's a bit of a waste on her. She's the main character in the game who massively benefits being a Gremory, thanks to her getting access to a 2nd meteor and being able to use Physic more or less when she pleases. Having 8 Thorons is pretty neat too.
That is true. However, as a dancer, she can use both magic and Gaughtlets. That's what I did. I made her punch things like the inner jojo she is.

In an odd way a lot of characters tend to miss out on something by becoming a pure utility character.

Don't worry about the lack of swords because a well-trained Flyan can use Levin sword for magic combat
Flayn is a great choice for BL and GD. However you should advice new players not to choose her in BE due to the route split.

@@benyager3355 Yep I did that as well. Having gone into the game blind I made a number of long term mistakes. I didn't plan what class route I wanted my Byleth to take so he ended up stuck as a Mercenary or Cavalier until the very end when I could finally make him a Paladin. I also didn't recruit any other students until very late. And, like you, I made Flayn my dancer. I did one thing right though, I didn't like the idea of Edelgard being an armoured unit so early on I decided she'll be a Wyvern Lord. She completely carried me through the entire game and I didn't even use her personal weapon. I would highly recommend the Daenarys Targaryen route.

I think you forgot the sword avoid +20 skill on top of swords dance. Even if you're not actually gonna use a dancer, the skill is still highly beneficial for swordies.
Yeah, My Ferdinand in Church Route had 100 % Avoid rate against the Final Boss as a Sword Master. I wanted to use him as a Dancer, but when I realized, that I used him as a frontliner instead of as support I reclassed him.
That's why I've put petra and Ingrid as dancer before putting them in pegasus / falcon knight. Sure the grind is real for those reclass, but they get quite overpowered and dodgy later on. Ferdinand would have maybe outclassed them if he could access the pegasus knight class. He is still quite dodgy as a wyvern lord though, or as a swordmaster/assassin (but then he lacks canto and movement).
@@Negens343 Wyvern Lord has avoid +10 as well. Base speed isn't that much lower as well.
@@AB54099 base speed is a bit lower, though not significantly indeed. The problem here is that the grind is even worse than pegasus because you need axe, lance and fly at an even bigger rank to get the supreme class. Which is why, for a sword character, pegasus are the way to go if possible
@@Negens343 I guess but I really don't see it. That technical extra investment was consistently never that much of a problem for me unless we're talking about a Felix that joins later.

One thing should be noted about Flayn; If you're playing the Black Eagle route and are intent on siding with Edelgard at chapter 11, *you should not make Flayn your dancer, if use her at all*
Siding with Edelgard means that Flayn leaves your army. So don't throw the opportunity for a dancer away like a friend of mine did.
You can however spare her later in game if you attack setteth 1.st
@@Bullminator I tried to spare her but first time I didn't really know where her spawn was. She instantly attacked Bernadetta and with Bernie beeing one of the best snipers in the game... you may propably know how this ended...

This is a amazing idea
I commented on this a few days ago, but I will always put my vote in for Sylvain. My combat style is based on mobility rather than brute strength, so I didn't get much utility out of dancers in previous FE games -- they were too squishy and couldn't keep up with my cavaliers and fliers on the field. Maybe I just got lucky with Sylvain's stat growths, but not only is he a thematically hilarious choice, he's fast, strong, and can stand up to a LOT of abuse. Pair him with Mercedes and you get twice the healing on a difficult map.
Even if he wasn't, we've waited far too long for male dancers in FE for me to waste this opportunity on a female unit. XD

Bards were essentially male dancers. And while I agree that it is annoying to have a dancer that dies in 1 or 2 hits, all dancers save for 1 in the franchise are amazing at providing utility, and should not be overlooked.
Movement for dancers has traditionally been stingy, even with Boots. This game finally bucked the trend. Their squishiness isn't the reason I reclass them -- it's that a dancer who can't keep up with the rest of the army is shaking their tail for an empty audience. Close combat specialists get more mileage out of them; my teams focus on high mobility and speed, so my dancers are too busy frantically chasing after them to see much practical use.
Believe me, no one's overlooking Sylvain in that outfit, least of all me.
I completely agree with Sylvain. He's actually great at it, he's got naturally high charm, he gets Black Magic avoid as his hidden talent, has decent stat growths across the board and it's a great class choice on the way to making him a Dark Knight. Teaching him both Reason and Faith magic makes him the most versatile unit in my entire army. He can attack with magic or lance, he has huge range, he can tank both magic and physical damage and he even dodges real well.
On top of that he learns both Physic and Seraphim. Perfect utility.
Plus, he even has a dancer outfit different from the general Blue Lions dancer color scheme. Obviously it was meant to be ;)
@@shenai2187 - ^ THIS, THANK YOU. I have a hard time convincing people that it really isn't just for the lulz or the memes: at the end of the day, Sylvain truly does have a unique skillset that allows him to excel in the role. Knowing I can toss him in as melee or support without having to worry about whether or not he can take a hit has really spoiled me. Replaying previous FEs from this point on will probably give me a few rude reminders of how squishy Dancers usually are.
And it was DEFINITELY meant to be. XD
@@Chaeley He's really perfect for it. In any situation he can fill any role you need. Magic or physical attacker, face tank or dodge tank and even refresh or heal. Anyone who doesn't teach him magic has wasted his immense potential.
In my first playthrough, Felix was my dancer.
That was a meme pick, but it actually worked incredibly well! He has Thoron to abuse rather early and his combat kinda falls off at some point (or rather, was basically completely eclipsed by Dimitri, who is one of the only combat units you'll ever need) anyway.
And seeing him in that outfit was kinda funny.
I made Ignatz my dancer and he's doing a good job and is a sweetie. He was already a pretty strong sword boy bc he was training up as assassin, so I don't have to worry too much about him not being able to defend himself if I put him in an enemy's path. Plus with his bowskills I can always park him at a ballista if there's one on the map and my mounted units get too far ahead of him.

I know this came out probably before the Ashen Wolves DLC but I personally prefer to make Yuri my dancer bc of his relic
Runs to unit, dances, and continues to move to set up another dance for the next turn or to get him back out of danger if necessary
Using the galewind shoes on him makes him even better. He can cover a massive distance. I set him up that way and never regretted it. He was amazing!
I feel like for lunatic or inferno, a tanky dancer would be nice.
Pd: Dancer Dedue?
Dedue is a terrible dancer. You will want your dancer to do SOMETHING at the end of his or her turn, and that directly conflicts woth Dedue's personal skill.
I don't think tank stats will matter, if the rumors of everyone having poison strike is true. It's just better to have someone fast, with mediocre defense and resistance than a slow character with high defense and resistance but gets doubled

I had Casper for my first play through because I love him but then I realize he kinda suck as a dancer. Then Golden Deer I had Claude because...I mean cmon. Then I had Sylvain because Ghast said he was a good Dancer and he was. Amazing and combat and support. Now I’m thinking Ignatz because of your video.
Admittedly Marianne was my own #1 pick for dancer just because... well I learned about Blutgang from some friends and was like "okay, you get to be a dancer"
On my first playthrough Sylvain recruited himself (I was f!Byleth and talked to him by mistake) and so in retaliation I made him my dancer so I might find a niche for him. He was actually a pretty solid physical unit/dancer, but mostly I liked the idea of him defecting from Faerghus just so he could dance in Claude's harem
I had no idea the Dancer class was even in the game so didn't plan in advance, I just made Annette my Dancer since she was the character who most wanted to be the class representative, it worked out well since Mercedes and Flayn were still better Healers than her and Dancer got Magic, unfortunately it meant her Rallies were pointless but by then I wasn't too far away from getting Alois for the Rally Strength (plus I didn't find much of a use for Rallies later on), she didn't get any use out of Sword Dance though due to her bad Strength stat, I'll probably look into Dancer Marianne since I'm using her in my second Blue Lions playthrough, Ignatz for my Golden Deer run and Dorothea for my Black Eagles run.
K T I know that, I didn't research if it'd be good or not I just saw Annette wanted to do the competition and just went for it, she wasn't awful luckily since she could still use Magic although her growths weren't helped by the class and I could've definitely used it better on another unit. Still brought her to endgame though, refreshing was just too good.
@K T Annette has a horrible spell list and is better with a Levin Sword then casting spells.
Dancer is great for sword units but more importantly for magic units too. I believe the dancer has 6 movement, a huge step up from being locked to 4 or 5 movement as a mage. As such, I think mages benefit strongly from this movement boost.
Dorothea was my first recruit on Blue Lions and she was my dancer. I think she's probably the best suited for that role in the game with her swords and magic at default.
For my current Golden Deer route, I just made Ignatz a dancer. I taught him magic as a monk beforehand because he learns physic and a few good black magic spells. He already has swords so it just fit perfectly. Although honestly his growths are so bad in attack and magic that I feel like dancer is his main salvation as a unit sadly. But with physic, dancer and rally authority skills he's an amazing support unit overall.
When I replay Blue Lions on new game + then I'll make Annette my dancer this time around. She already uses magic so it works. She prefer axes over swords but honestly my dancer Dorothea never used swords when she attacked: I always just used thunder or thoron and that's exactly what Annette will do - use black magic offensively as a dancer vs swords.
Annette has the worst spell list of all the high magic characters so she can make great use out of a Levin Sword
Ingrid for my first BL play through, Flayn for Golden Deer, and then Dorthea for Black Eagles and Silver Snow.

i found that mortal savant marianne makes her a great frontline unit while also being able to take a hit if she needs to heal someone for a turn (like everyone, she has nosferatu, so she can even use that the next turn)

I made Sylvain my dancer, and I was shocked at how perfectly he for the role for me. Also, he looks FABULOUS!
Ingrid makes a pretty decent dancer. Shes good with swords and has a good magic growth. Not to mention her personal skill works well with Authority, which dancer specialises in alongside swords

I picked edelgard mine too, but not cause she my waifu, but because my edelgard somehow had over 30 charm BEFORE training her to be a dancer.
Flayn dancer downsides: Seteth will be extremely mad at you
I feel like Ingrid could also work as a dancer. But that's mostly because her str and mag growths are equal to one another, as well as the fact that she has a proficiency in swords.
I thought this too how she checked the boxes for me but I love her as a flier still so I feel Marianne for me is the best choice with Flayn and Dorothea as well. Ingrid is still in my opinion in my top 5 best choices for Dancer since she fits it so well.

I haven't made Dimitri a dancer but the combination of royal lineage+, sword prowess lv. 5, sword avoid +20, and an avoid boosting battalion make me consider it.
Go with with Wyvern Lord as well for avoid +10
I already tried this. Got to chapter 10 and pretty much beat the game. Dimitri had 93 avoid. Nobody could hit him and with Retribution he counterattacked like the Death knight. That's before time skip shenanigans. He had sword prowess lv. 5, sword avoid +20, and Jeralt's Mercs. That's 55 avoid. Royal lineage+, Wyvern Lord's +10 avoid, and an evasion ring stacked on top equals 95 avoid before speed/luck. That's higher than chapter 21 enemy Petra.

I chose Dedue.. but I never used him as a dancer. I just wanted to see him look dumb hehe-

The beauty of fe3h is the fact all of the characters in the game are viable on the battle field even the weakest candidates can be useful with the right strategy.
My Annette wasn’t fling very well offensively but she became an awesome support character by being able to both rally and special dance. She also had basic healing and could weaken enemies with Group flames
I always make Ashe my dancer since he has Locktouch as his personal, he can get Steal from the Thief class, and Dancer lets him, well, dance. Give him a few levels in Faith and he can be a really good Thief Dancer with healing utility in case he needs it

Lysithea was an amazing dancer as the 20 avoid while equipped with a sword helps her survive longer, and she can still use her most powerful tool: Magic. That with thyrsus and blutgang and she can kill anything in one turn
Very good dancer suggestions my dude. Though I feel I should add a few points to some of the characters you listed.
*Marianne & Ferdinand:* They have Riding Proficiency, and while they're not gonna reach it until a fair ways into the game, they can gain Movement +1 at A+ rank. If you have your dancer planned out from the start, you can set their focus to sword and Riding and put them on Stable Duty, letting them get a head start on getting to the goal of being a 7 move dancer.
*Flayn/Dorothea:* Both of these have supportive personal skills making them very good for staying on a supportive role, since at least their personal ability will still see use. Hilda also qualifies, but unless you're like me and just want to see best lazy grill in that glorious toga, she's made more for direct combat.
*Dorothea:* I dunno how much truth there is to this one, but I read on Serenes that if you equip Meteor on her, any ally in her attack range benefits from her for supports and gambits. If this is true, just leaving a siege tome equipped improves their supportive utility considerably even if you don't plan to actually use it. It's also very nice if you dance a flier and they go far away from the group, because they can still get benefits from 10 spaces away. Again, this is something that Hilda can do (she learns Bolting) but it's probably too much of a hassle to force it on her.
*Hilda:* On the off chance she gets really screwed or you just want to do something fun, I genuinely think that Hilda makes one of the best dancers since she has 2/3 of the qualities I listed above. A purely supportive personal skill, and a siege time for long ranged passive support. Shame she doesn't have Riding Proficiency; she was one step away from being the best dancer, imo. Well that, as well as the fact that you'd have to force Reason and Riding on her, and that she is too good to be relegated to full-time support. But it's an option!
Again, very good list, I think you picked some of the genuinely best options for dancers but these reasons are also really good boons to consider when making the big choice.
Can confirm the meteor support does work, and it is so broken. I've been using it with Hanneman.
This has motivated me to do what few people do, since putting her on the front lines just to spite her is only natural I guess, and respect Hilda's wishes to focus her down the support role. Not as big a loss if you're going to be recruiting early to make up for her being a less than ideal mage. Always wanted an excuse to take advantage of the fact she has access to Bolting. (Also makes me want to field all 4 siege spell wielders, plus longbow Bow Knights and tactical nuke Lysithea, all at once for big advantage.)
About the movement +1 i had lorenz as a dark knight in a previous GD run and i wanted to try him as a dark bishop this time around so i did and just bought the A+ riding with renown and boy oh boy a 5 move dark bishop is damn nice
Annette because she is the ultimate utility character in this game... She has like 4 different rally skills and being capable of using magic she can heal or just blow someone up with her high Mag stat. Also she really blooms into a beautiful young woman with the time skip.
I had a charm stat of 23 on dorothea when she won a narrow victory against the other houses. Manuela announced dimitri and my heart skipped a beat.
I chose Flayn as my dancer simply because she REALLY wanted to be our house representative. I was going to go with Annie until I felt really bad that Flayn has never had an opportunity like this before.
So having her as my dancer was a complete accident.
She Dances, she Heals, she Rescues, she has black magic, she has a Levin sword, and she has extra range with her staff.
She perfect

So, I recruited Dorothea in my first run (Golden Deer) and made her my dancer because it just fit so well. And for my secund run, Blue Lions.. Felix because it was way too fun sksk
Golden Deer - Hilda; and I didn't use her as such. I had little clue what was going on this was my first run
Black Eagles - Hubert! 6 move Hubert is amazing!
Blue Lions - I used the Fish Girl for this one; I intended to use Mercedes; but she was too busy *murdering everything* and also rolled low CHA; so I just went Flayn [Who comes with enough CHA to basically instantly win]
Worth noting a lot of the worst characters in the game [Ashe; Ignatz] have really low CHA so are hard to make Dancers
i almost always choose Flayn. It gives her a better boost in magic and she needs it if you count her as ur final party member in Golden Deer/Blue Lions/ Silver Snow route
I’ve gone Dorothea in the past simply because she’s best girl and an amazing dancer, but this video is making me really want to try out Marianne as a dancer. Not only would she be good at it and lovely, but I can see it giving her a real confidence boost, and Seiros knows she needs that more than anything.
I made Sylvain my dancer in one of my playthroughs because Sylvain in the dancer outfit is pretty hot
tbh anyone that doesn't want to be a dancer but benefits from sword dancer is a good option. (Like I did with Ingrid lul.)
I've seen some say Linhardt due to being a good offensive and supportive magic user, and he would appreciate the great move. Gotta love the sleepy boi!
tho iirc the only bane of being a dancer instead of a bishop etc is that he loses out on 2x white magic, which can sometimes be important since warp can be rare. (Thank lord I recruited both Lysithea and Linhardt.)
Every character that have good utility can be a good dancer.
Ashe is a very good option btw, lockpit is a cool ability to have
Flayn was my initial pick on my first playthough, Blue Lions. Now that I'm going for Golden Deer, I actually chose Marianne because her Charm growth was just nuts, but also her Crest is good for melee combat.
I picked dancer Hubert just for the laughs lol. He ended up being one of my most helpful units in the end🤔
Hubert does have a lot going for him as a Dancer. He's packing both immense Magic and Batallion damage, Banshee(C Encloser), Mire, Rally Magic in the magic house, an Authority Boon and Frozen Lance BT.
He's practically built for dancing to Edelgard's (dis)pleasure.
For Black Eagles I recruited Sylvain and made him a dancer (his talent is really nice for that) and for Blue Lions I recruited Hilda and made her one, because I really wanted to use Bolting for (chip)damage
I made my Petra a dancer for a playthrough, not for dancing but for Sword Dance and Sword Avoid +20. With the evasion ring, Alert Stance+, Axebreaker and Sword Prowess 5 she constantly had enemy hit rates at 20% or lower in the Assassin Class.
Petra is an amazing choice for Dancer more than Felix honestly.
I was really gung ho about turning Marianne into my dancer, but then I realized I was also training her to be a mounted class, because I've noticed she's been auto healing herself when she's a cavalier (I needed to raise her riding...) And I didn't want to lose out on that reliably activating when she's on the ground. So in a last minute change I have the role to Lysithea, since I was training her to use sword and magic anyway. And she was also in the back sniping things anyway.
I fucked up by not making Lysithea or Marianne

I would like to say that Dancer is the only class outside of noble/commoner that allows the use of both magic and Gaughtlets. So if you want to use that combination like I did (Dorothea because jojo memes) then you certainly can make it work.
Enlightened One lets you use them too. I built my Byleth around being a brawling caster.

In my first run, I didn't have anyone I wanted to be a dancer, so I recruited Petra solely for that purpose. I'm glad I did, because not only do I personally think she looks the best in the dancer outfit, both her academy and her war design, but she's probably one of my absolute favorite characters, and I almost straight up missed out on her.
I didn't know what the dance competition did so I chose Hubert as my guy bc I like the thought of him being in a dance competition and now I'm sad

Yeah, it sound like a bad idea. And needed to grind her up for her Charm and did a few reset to get those points, but she make a good fighter dancer.
Her Speed and Strength mix with Sword Dance and Close Counter made her a tank supporter for me.
I also went out of my way for her to use Lance, Bow, Brawler and Authority to see how this help her strengths.
She now carry my team as a Tank Dancer with Healing force with Heavy hitter Hilda.
Basically I made a power duo.
I just did Dancer Bernie to torture her. She needed to come out of her shell dammit!
in my current run where I made Marianne my dancer I made almost everyone I'm using a magic class while focusing on Marianne's speed stat
I’m using Lyssthia as my on again off again Dancer and it’s pretty good. Her budding talent in Swords gets her Soulblade and Levin swords give her really good damage on top of her terrifying spells that (at least in my case) never seem to be too lacking in uses.
Interesting choices to break the norm from the obvious choice in Dorothea.
Lysithea makes a pretty good dancer (but you need movement ring on her + 1 movepoint herb)
While her sword is weak -- you only need to unlock 3 stars for the skill. As then you can use normal swords (instead of magic ones) to do magical damage.
She does benefit from other 2 dancer uses.
But once you hit endgame and anyone ends on horses, you can turn her into gremory or death knight as her warp support is even more usefull then.
Lysithea is insane if you give her Catherine's sword and Lorenz' staff (from the paralogue).
Flayn will forever be my dancer. She's just so cute in that outfit

Claude is an awesome dancer! I would use him as a dancer during grinding maps, and a Barbarossa in chapter battles. This resulted in him having absolutely MASSIVE dex, spd, and cha. He was a bit more delicate than he may otherwise be, but reliable multicrits with a brave bow and enemies having 0-15% HIT while he’s using Rapier+ is excellent. HIGHLY recommended.
I always make the character I won’t use for that run a dancer and sword dance is super fun with an avoid ring
It's crimson flower only. But Edelgard is the best dancer. Raging storm to move her up more, gambit damage that's through the roof because of dancer charm + Edelgard charm, and she uses both phys and levin sword well for sword avoid. Plus you can let your dancer frontline without fear because it's Edelgard.
The downside to this is playing Crimson Flower at all.
I made Annette my dancer, and though she didn't encounter a lot of combat, she could still nuke the enemy.
I made Dimitri my dancer with the BL run just to disturb a certain unit when they have him dance to them. He also had so much charm by the time the cup was on

I personally made Hubert my dancer because:
1.its funny
2. it's pretty, useful when the dancer unit is also a unit that can tank a few hits.
How is dancer bad mortal savant
If you're using it as a sword/magic hybrid class it doesn't really do much for you in the long run since all of its combat utility comes from skills you can just take to another class. Mortal Savant is just more specialized for the few units that actually want to go down that route.
So basically nobody
If your going into dancer for offensive purposes just go be a mortal savant is what I meant.
I always decide who to make a dancer starting with the question "who would I actively miss if they weren't doing what they normally do?" These are typically all your busted units, but once I filter it out I'm left with either bad units or average units and then I just pick who gives me the most utility in addition to dancing.
Marianne as a dancer with Mercedes recruited to be main healer works really well on all of the routes
I started with this thought from the beginning, hired Mercedes, and now I'm at the point of picking my dancer and starting to have second thoughts.
Was going to grit thru Flayn's riding bane to make her a holy knight, but now I'm questioning if that would be better for Marianne while making Flayn the dancer - which I had mostly been using her for stride.
Best Dancers (In my opinion)
1.) Dorothea : Lots of supports and siege tome. : Great for BL and BE
2.) Constance : More team specific but same rules apply as Doro, also rescue. : CF only, unless lots of wolves.
3.) Flayn : Rescue, Restore and Fortify are more situational spells, good for a dancer to have since they can just normally dance when they are not needed. High Charm : Great on any team.
4.) Yuri : Boosted charm, good sword, silence.
5.) Ferdinand/Felix. Fast, high avoid, good sword usage. Ferdie has higher charm and his passive, Felix has better growths. Both also have restore. : Great on any team.
Unrelated, but Manuela would have been #1 for CF and SS if she could be a dancer. Between bolting, warp, silence, easy sword prowess, great charm and high speed, she had every tool a dancer could ever hope for. Such a shame tbh.
I made my dancer dedue on accident. I don’t regret anything now
I made Bernadetta my dancer for that sweet Pass dancing utility. Being able to bypass enemies so that my fliers can get another turn was utility that I found to be really useful.
My first dancer was Petra. From that point on I had to use Flayn. She is very effective because of that rescue ability. She can basically help you cover the whole map and then retrieve you for safety.
The only thing to consider when making a unit a dancer is the thiccness. Therefore, always make Raphael the dancer
One way to work around Flayn’s weak sword skills is just giving her a Levin Sword. Making it a Levin Sword+ gives it Range 3 and helps a lot when doing Gambits, since she’ll randomly be in range a lot of the time to give a Gambit Boost
I chose Marianne as my dancer since I was romancing her (her CHA was pretty high) on the BL route. Holy shit she only got hit maybe 8x after the class change. Soul blade plus high crit sword = OHKOs. Also she looked happy :)
Agreed, I rarely get hit with Dancer Marianne and Soul Blade is a godsend for her as well

Sylvain. I just picked the person on the blue lions who I thought had the most charisma. I didn’t realize it was a class choice. That and I didn’t learn how to change classes aside from the test menu...
