  • My personal story to illustrate how your posture, pain, and movement is the result of how your brain uses your senses to move through space and how you breathe. You can not improve posture or movement without knowing this. Your brain and body do not care that you want to improve your posture or your movement. It only cares about what it senses, the influence of gravity, and threat. Your posture and movement are based off of these three things.

    Its so absurd that I catched myself walking normally when I walk on the street with my mind occupied with thinking.
    Exactly at the moment I realise that I'm walking normally BUM I start dragging my right foot.

    I lost central vision in my right eye, perinatally. Makes sense why I have to work quite hard at this. Prism glasses and postural insoles are helping. Sensory integration is better. More work to do yet lol.

      That's an interesting issue, because in the normal pattern, the left eye loves to focus centrally and the right eye loves to focus ambiently, and one of the goals is get the left eye paying more attention to the periphery and the right eye pay attention focally (which is associated with being in "left stance").

      ⁠​⁠@@NealHallinanI’m not entirely sure all the terminology so apologies, I think I am in the boat you mentioned I’m right hand and side dominant, though I have noticed since my vision going a bit weird the left side of body feels slightly more dominant and like everything is connected how it normally is but my ride side feels like like a stroke nothing is in cooperation or functioning properly, if it’s not too much trouble to ask, what would that sound like to you or am I just overly conscious of it now perhaps than before? Not sure tbh.

    Neil I stopped wearing my retainer and that was the cause of all of my dissociation, visual snow and brain fog that was unexplainable. I tried every treatment under the sun until I found your videos on PRI. Your videos and the information about how teeth are so important and everything else literally saved my life. Now I am just wearing my retainer and all my symptoms are improving at the same time. It's like I'm crawling out of hell you are a godsend

    OMG your video hits the spot in all the same places I’m suffering with. Big toes don’t bend/ touch the floor, right arch higher than my left, feet fall out when lying down (no IR), tight upper traps, neck breathing, anterior tilt, left pain in shoulder and piriformus, hip flexor tightness. More recently jaw tightness and my right canine tooth noticeably sticks out so much too.…I think this has shifted more in the last 6 months. Also can’t seem to engage my breath all the way down to my pelvic floor and no back rib expansion. My right hand and wrist hurt, and my right eye twitches too! I now think my issues started in 2019 when I first suffered with right temporal headaches and maybe became a mouth & neck breather after several left ankle sprains over the last 10 years. Working from home with flat floors and in front of a screen too. I really need to see someone like you but there’s nobody PRI certified in the UK 😢

    Hey, Neal I been watching your videos for a long time. I went and saw a PRI PT in Monterey, CA 4 months ago and I saw him 4 times. It was a great experience and he said I just need to see him one more time. All the exercises he gave me for homework cause major changes and my body. He said that I should be all good to go and back to powerlifting. But to be sure to see him one more time. People this stuff works and I'm 95-98 percent healed and it feel amazing. I just gotta do this months homework(exercises) that I got.

    Neal, I have an urgent question. Do you know if posture and breathing can be linked to GI symptoms like reflux or constipation? Is it possible that bad posture/breathing can lead to esophageal sphincter muscles getting weak and not properly closing?

      I believe so, yes. It's all the autonomic nervous system, which your gut is heavily linked to via the vagus nerve. A forward head posture can create a lot of disharmony in anything associated with the neck/throat.

    In the past 2 weeks I’ve been using toes spread and dr scholl toe corrector. I’ve felt huge relief on my neck and shoulders tension. Finally im really sensing the ground, especially on the right where i had a really big arch. No shoe or paper towel got me to sense this as spreading my toes. I also massage ball the feet and at the beginning it was so tender! Now it’s getting stronger and better.

      I started with toe spreaders (I used correct toes) and wow did I have a lot of tension in my feet! One extra thing I discovered is that using a foam roller on my calves helps a lot with tension through the plantar fascia. I couldn't believe how good my whole body felt after stretching my calves properly!
      You are definitely on the right track if neck and shoulder tension is easing! Hope you'll keep seeing improvement.

      @@acardinalconsideration824 I'm not the OP. I did sleep with my correct toes on in the first few weeks I had them after I got used to wearing them for a few hours. I tended to take them off half way through the night if they shifted and pressed in where they weren't meant to.
      The tension in my feet improved very quickly once they remembered how to feel the ground and I only rarely use them now.

    I've been walking barefoot my whole life. But I only began wearing barefoot shoes a couple of years ago. My barefoot habit made it easy to wear barefoot shoes. I already know how to walk normally barefoot as humans have done for millions of years. So, to put it simply, if you know how to walk barefoot like humans evolved to walk, barefoot shoes are awesome. The problem is most modern people no longer know how to walk barefoot, not to mention their feet have been structurally altered by modern shoes and they have weak foot muscles.

    Hey Neal, can you expand on how looking at our screens and lacking of movement for an extended period of time could potentially cause our brains to drop our left eyes and causing us to develop patterns? I think this is invaluable for the general public and if there's someone who can explain this, it would be you.

    23 years old right here with your exact symptoms! I just started to make UA-cam content and it’s crazy how you can see how I live in a compromised occipital state.(feel free to take a quick Look at my videos) I also feel kind of relieved, that the bunion on my right acromion definitely comes from neck breathing… as soon as I put a guard in my mouth I I can use my left side again and my extreme headaches sometimes go away almost immediately… Thank you for sharing!

    I have every single symptom you have AND I have the right torsion/head twist to the right and the bend to the right, going toward my right shoulder. My right side is dominating my entire body. Over the past 2 or so years the torsion has become increasingly worse, I guess.. because it’s twisting my esophagus, and my organs, I can feel it. I have a hard time using the restroom now, #1 & #2 and I’m developing ED, I’m 29yo… I’ve lived with the pain my entire life as I believe this stems from a head/neck injury when I was 6yo.. but the OCD and mental fog/discombobulation of not seeing/feeling centered is eating away at who I used to be. I can’t even think. The ‘fight or flight’ is unbearable. Heart rate is constantly spiked and mouth dry 24/7. I’ve gone to a PRI specialist 3 times now and he’s recommended a dentist I should see about a splint. I just pray that my cranium gets fixed. I used to be so alive and happy & outgoing. The orthotics I got ($500) have slightly turned off the left side of my neck and allow me to swallow/breathe a bit better. I just want to say thank you so much because I never knew what was wrong with me and it makes you feel actually insane. Thank you.

      @@네임네임-x2y So the ‘splint’ on the bottom teeth is called a ‘pada’ I believe, that’s what the dentist told me. & the ‘ALF’ stands for ‘Alternative lightwire forces’ or ‘Alternative lightwire functional’ is like a retainer that goes in the top of the mouth around the inside of the teeth.

    Are you aware of why my sense of touch/skin on the general right side of my body has gotten weaker after the age of 18 ?
    At the same time, I do sense that my dominant eye also changed from right to left and molar & heel sensitivity is now also left dominant.
    Is it bc (1) my right side sensitivity got weaker that Im left dominant, or (2) my left side just became more sensitive on its own, or (3) both, or (4) num1 scenario causing num2? I’m pretty sure it’s (4) but I don’t know the reasons. The starting point is probably vision related

    I know someone. Who has very much neck forward position. They also have tethered cord. Low back pain numbing legs with walking or standing. He is also missing teeth. And as they aged they developed seizures. Seems like that person needs this kind of therapy evaluation . Where would one find such therapy in Idaho?

    Sensory doesn’t drive biomechanics. It’s a paradoxical causal loop. They both drive each other. That’s why when you train a muscle it feels extremely active and there’s more sensory stimulation. It’s called neuro mechanical matching.

    I had this problem since I was nine years old which cause pinched nerves that cause sensitivity to the cold and heat. Through out the years it cause depression, muscle aches, muscle weakness, knee pain. I’ve been watching yours videos and with that I was able to figured out what is actually going on.

    Thank you, Neal. I discovered you on YT months ago, I have no idea why. I seldom watch videos like yours, but YT Algy decided in your case, I must. Now I have to tell you, your constant use of technical terms made what you were saying very hard to understand though I am reasonably well educated. I persisted and began to consciously straighten my walk, my spine, my height-shoulders back with tucked in tailbone. It takes 13 steps to walk my hallway. There I practice when I walk from the living room to the kitchen and back, a frequent occurrence. To correct that left big toe dominance thing, I’d walk saying “heel, ball of foot, heel, *center* ball, heel, ball, heel, ball.” In the beginning more than once I had to reach for the hallway walls to keep balance. That left toe dominance is insistent! That alone astounded me. Walking since a baby and I still haven’t learned how?! I knew it was working when I bit down one day and bit into my left cheek. I began to practice shifting my jaw over to the right, hoping to straighten my bite. I know I’m a work in progress but your instructions have helped so much. Calluses on the side of my feet have not returned after I removed them with file and lotion after every shower. A strange pain in my left leg has mostly disappeared. It’s now slight infrequent twinge just signals me to not forget the hallway practice. Thanks again and may all who watch you experience similar benefit. Blessings.

    My body seems to do just the opposite of what you’re saying my foot that’s turned out is my right foot. My hip hurts more on the right side.

    That half a pattern on each side is the thing that resonates with me the most. I feel exactly this way. Everything your saying sounds familiar except flipped. Left arch higher, right more pronated. Right big toe joint stiff and my right foot is outward

      @@jakobblake6860 I've started seeing a chiropractor. Turns out my right hip is higher, my right side of my lumbar spine is a bit fucked and same for my right neck vertebrae. The biggest shock was just how locked down my hips were. Even after multiple sessions the range of motion change is slow despite strong adjustments. Also I didn't realise how much my body wanted to release the tension in my neck, was really necessary.
      You might be in a similar position to me. I have done stretching, massage gun and pri techniques for 2 years on my own but I simply could not get my hips to align no matter what I did. I guess I'd compensated for so long that even when I felt like I was generating movement I either wasn't or it was extremely small. After initial assesment I've been advised 2 sessions a week for 3 weeks then 1 session for 3 weeks then after that should just be routine check up appointments. Had 4 sessions so far 2 being part of this treatment course and I can definitely tell I'm gaining movement in my spine and hips and I have increased sensation around my spine, it used to be a dull sort of feeling when my spine and surrounding area was touched, now I can feel him actually going between the vertebrae and exactly where it is.

    You have no idea how helpful your content is. You are saving people man. I would like to hear your opinion on the "Repetitive Rotation Superior T8 Syndrome pattern". Did not find a video about it. It turns out that I have no right at all, and I had to sense my right big toe, or right sitbone, or anything on the right to get my vision after loosing it with the splint on. HaHa crazy!!! So when you say "do not fit in any pattern", it really talks to me and makes it harder. I really need that right sitbone, my right femur is stuck in er. Does not make any sense to me! Working with Jennifer now and will also meet Ron. Thank you bro for everything! You are a savior, and I will send you an update soon!

      Jennifer in Texas? I needed my left big toe sense to feel my right proximal hamstring. I can get it in any position except "long seated". It's very strange. It always perplexed me, but I think it's the combination of lack of left big toe and my oral cavity deviation.

    Neal, I figured out that my left eye was slighlyt more close than the right. This indirectly caused the right side of my body to rotate towards the midline. When I raise my eye, it stopped. However it's not the eye. Squinting or opening the eye caused my ears to shift every so slightly, which is connected to the vestibular system.

    3:30 that is definitely what is happening on my right foot. I have no real strength to push the big toe into the ground but the second toe digs in hard.

      It's very normal in the left AIC pattern for the right big toe to lose its "push", which means it's hard to transition from your right to left without some sort of compensation.

    Good to speak to you the other day Neal! The pearl of wisdom "you have a stopping problem not a movement problem" has been ringing in my ears ever since you said it. Completely changed the way I view PRI and the resulting patterns from the stress response caused by (too) asymmetrical lateralisation

      No. For the most part, I'm not in pain. Besides tinnitus, I have no real complaints.

    I would be interested to hear your opinion about putting all this together with Mewing and The Starecta Method. For me, Mewing + The Starecta Method + these videos have helped me out a lot! I now have more energy than before, my facial asymmetries have improved, giving me more confidence in how I look, and my TMJ is also almost completely gone.

    At this point im not sure if it was the chicken or the egg.
    I broke my jaw and had it wired and then splinted to solve my resulting tmj problems. Problem was it was splinted so that i lost molar sense. Then i had bunion surgery on my left foot (no pt after of course aince i was only 21 and would surely figure out how to walk properly again 🙄) so now have a left big toe that doesnt touch the ground and is stiff.
    Neal, i think you might find this interesting. Been determined to be patho pec, i think relatively hypermobile, extended back position maybe since my jaw accident, maybe also since birth. Mom had spinal fusion, then my son was born with umbilical hernia. With my heel orthotics and a fantastic pilates teacher whos teaching me how to feel my core, and having found a PRI practitioner i like here in austin, im on the road to recovery.

      That's awesome. I'm happy to hear that. The simple fact is that the feet/ankle heavily influence the jaw/neck and vice versa. It's a feedback loop. Won't really matter what the chicken or egg was, once it is there, it's there, and has to be addressed. But of course, you still WANT to know the "origin story" to give you a sense of closure.

    Thank you for this information!!! It's amazing that the cranium can change. My mouth has changed shape over the years from extraction on the upper left. The good news is using mewing and a good prosthodontist. My mouth is returning to the a healthy bite I had in my twenties. Also, mewing helps my neck, creating more movement when I turn my head. I'm 67 years old!

    The heel cup is what Vibram Fivefingers shoes do for you. I get feedback from my arches and heels all the time.
    I've been working on myself since 2018 learning from UA-cam and other books and wearing fivefingers. A doctor who truly understands these issues may help get you straight sooner but all my efforts have changed me in a way that a doctor never could.

    Does PRI literature address the contra lateral forces created by the left SCM in contrast with the right canine / right pterygoids? I had a breakthrough today completely unexpectedly related to that, it was something preventing me from staying neutral. I heard your voice in my head saying "the overactive right side of the neck" and then I had a breakthrough when I finally activated my left SCM fully, allowed me to get into left stance (in my torso) much more fully than ever, and allowed me to occlude my left molars and canine better than ever. Combining that with right canine occlusion "locked" everything in place and gave me stability I have never had before, it was apparently the key preventing me from staying neutral.

      The contra lateral forces of the left SCM pulling my torso into left stance counter balanced by right canine occlusion, but ONLY when combined in sequence with extremely strong left molar and left canine occlusion; which anecdotally I could feel my right temporal bone rotate externally (with this new stronger leftside SCM activation and left dental occlusion) and the right canine occlusion is the last sequential step that "locked" the right temporal bone in the correct orientation. The sequence was: Left SCM -> STRONG left molar occlusion -> strong left canine occlusion (which I could never maintain more than a few seconds before today) -> noticably feel my right temporal bone rotate externally as the left canine really occludes -> right canine locks everything in place and allows me to finally maintain everything. Is this discussed in PRI because I am almost certain of what I am experiencing, I was having inexplicable severe pain in my right canine as my PRI program progressed and now I feel like I finally understand why.

      Yes, the left SCM, left molar, and right canine sense are necessary for appropriate left stance/right trunk rotation. It's all a normal part of PRI.     I’ve been looking for this video since I broke my left tibia 6 years ago and had two operations. I’ve suffered from that imbalance non-stop since then. I went straight back into overtraining with incorrect form to make sure the damage i’ve done can go as deep as possible. Anyways that was in my twenties; trying to fix things with pilates now. Multiple doctors said my symmetry was just fine, but I couldn’t understand why I still felt very different and uncomfortable all the time. Thank you, thank you and thank you.

    When you do a self-test like the heel cup when listening to the audiobook, how do you know whether your subconscious is making you do (or not do) something to meet your expected outcome, as opposed to it being purely neurosensory?

      Because I do it with other people, and they have no idea what I’m doing so they have no expectation. I’ve shown the same ideas in numerous videos.

      @@sciencensorcery Definitely a legitimate question. I’ve thought about that myself “is my brain just messing with me”? but when I can replicate similar things with other people, I realize it is legit. It’s all pressure and frequencies.

    I would recommend Nike zoom freak 5 or KD 17 for proper pronation. But you have to deal with jaw problem simutanously, otherwise you won't get proper arch as long as the jaw is locked.

    I had crooked teeth but they were in functional balance.
    After poorly done orthodontics with invisible aligners, problems began.
    I have had a crossbite on the left side of my mouth with the first and second premolars that don't close, the canines on the left have "opened" and the molars do not close in the correct position, all this on the left side of my mouth, on the right I have a good occlusion.
    All this creates imbalances and compensations that translate into pain, all on the right side of the body perhaps due to excessive activation of the cytene chains and hyperactivation of the muscles, Metatarsalgia on the right foot, painful right ankle and painful right gluteus (gluteus medius), I believe that the malocclusion problems have ruined the distribution of body weight.
    I use a Cervera Bracco plate at night to compensate for the nocturnal clenching and finally with my gnathologist we have started a process of correcting the occlusion with orthodontics.
    Any advice to give me? Is this the right path in your experience?

    Nice Video 👍🏼. Iam struggeling with this left AIC pattern since at least 6-7 years now. i tried several techniques but nothing really helped me long term. I always felt off when walking or standing. i had an interesting experience last summer. i was partying and drinking one night and couldnt sleep well after that so i decided to smoke some weed to get some sleep. For the first time i didnt think about my problem, i didnt care at all. so the same day after 2-3 hours a felt a shift in my body. suddenly my entire perception of sensing the ground and my Field of Vision was totally different. it felt like „relaxed attention“ . my body suddenly felt perfect aligned wothout doing any exercises. i just „let go“ in my head and i felt more of myself. i thought in my head „thats it, thats who i really am. i wonder how my body managed to do all this without and exercise.

    I was hit in the eye with a baseball in 9th grade around the time my condition got a lot worse. I almost lost that eye. I don't think that eye is is wrong as it used to be. Maybe there's some exercises I can do for it

    hi neal , i just want to know your opinion according my case , so i have a left aic right bc with left tmcc pattern which caused my neck to be tight in the left and my face became asymmetrical because of that (higher right eye, nose...) and i think the problem of that has to be my right glute (max and medius) because i have a less developed right glute comparing it to the left and i have a tight right tfl muscle . my question is does strength training my right glute will fix the problem because i was doing some pri on my own for 4 months without a difference. sorry for my bad english i am not a native english speaker .

      You need to complete your gait left heel all the way back, but that right arch, R big toe, and access to your right molar sense needs to happen if you want that right glute to work.

      You need to walk with intention driving your left heel behind you strongly. I didn't specify any exercises you need to achieve those sensory aspects I mentioned on the right side

      Not necessarily. Ron Hruska called those , "disharmony on top of of dysfunction" especially for those with forward necks. He's not against them, but need to be at the right time

      Oi, tudo bem, guilherme! Thanks for the offer. My nervous system in very sensitive and wouldn't be able to handle the pressure of braces/invisalign to straighten the teeth if they got shifted during the ALF, so I don't want to risk losing the contact that I have.

    What about flat feet? Both of my feet have no arch. I’ve always had issues with my feet and when I walk for exercise I have so much pain in the outside of my left hip. I’ve lost a lot of weight and lost my butt and I feel so much weaker not stronger eventhough I workout! It’s so disheartening. I felt stronger when I weighed more. I don’t know what to do 😢

      Maybe look at Caroline Jordans videos on front butt. I need to rewatch her story too. :) Have tarsal tunnel waiting on Podiatrist to evaluate and I am limping with no pain. Really. Had ankle roll last fall and over time it has made an issue. Plus new vision with glasses and contacts and I am off balance. It sucks but I am working on it.

    Can you please speak more on vestibular system and how your eyes etc play a role in posture and walking? I have been struggling for years with feeling off balance while walking and being visually dependent.

      Your vestibular system is responsible for posture, and the visual system is a major input into the vestibular system. When people become unstable, they often overuse their vision to stabilize themselves.

    Few days ago my body are imbalanced what happen exactly don't know but I'm going to neurologist doctor he said open your mouth and press your teeth and bite ok I'm doing well than going to x ray my nerve system and i feel better and my teeth and mouth tongue and jaw correct position and I'm doing well i feel my neck and shoulders and spine in straight and my face also my jaw and teeth and tongue correct position and i feel I'm eating upper and lower teeth and jaw correctly and swallowing correctly breathing by nose my sinus also clear ear also correct position eye focus also increased this all parts also doing well eat together jaws speech and swallowing teeth mouth tongue jaw correct position but now my jaw changed and little bit of pain and not bite comfortable neck and jaw painful and teeth also not correct what happen my teeth also some gaps formed my face also one side dropped my jaw also uncomfortable i think i have tmj dysfunction and neck also not straight i don't know i have cross bite over bite open bite open jet edge to edge i don't known i feel my teeth are not correct posture i would like to meet you give me your appointment please sir you can solve my problem i know you're genius in this cases please help me and reply me

    Another great video! I’m curious, you mention you had a significant regression during peak Covid, but outside of factors like a world shut down, I am wondering if periods of regression during PRI therapy is “normal“? I am going through what I feel is a regression (significant right QL tension & TFL aggravation ) after doing so well for months. Is it more common with someone who has cranial issues? I am torsioned and I do wear a splint. I also have mild scoliosis, which already puts me in an unpredictable category. Just wondering how often you see clients regress for a period. It’s so mentally challenging because I fear getting stuck there.

    well our olfactory system is asymmetric to a degree since the dominant side of your nose which you breathe through alternates every couple of hours! of course you’re still breathing through both sides, but one becomes primary till they swap!

    Hi Neal thank you for all your support 😅 excuse the pun. You are giving me some information that I think will get me into balance. My right foot has arthritis between the 4 big bones on top. I have much pain barefoot so I’m gradually finding the right shoes but I know more is needed
    I’m watching your videos and expect my 30 years of dysfunctional movement trying not to fall over in hospitality keeping my body balanced as I carried hot heavy plates while almost running will start to unwind and eliminate pain ❤🤩

    Hey neal, serious inquiry. I was a patho pec but after meeting with you and getting referred to a pri trainer in my area, she was able to get me back in the left aic right bc, however, i am a right torsion and just got a splint. Since you had a similar experience (I've watched your videos) what are my chances of making a full recovery and completely eliminating the grueling neck tension I have been dealing with. (My jaw is off to the right so based ok your videos I am a right torsion - super asymmetrical face as well)

    Just got a oral splint from PRI dentist in Minnesota. My teeth midline was off before I got splint and is STILL OFF CENTER with splint (I do not have a crossbite). Is this a concern?

      Happened to me. It’s been like 8 months with my splint and nothing changed. You just got scammed like me. Get away from pri ASAP.

      @@FordJackson-HBC hold on there. I wouldn’t go so far and say they are a “scam.” PRI is a very excellent tool for correctly analyzing the ASSYMETRICAL body. Definitely not a scam. I just need to check in with my PRI trainer and ask what’s going on.

      @@joshuaroberts5083 because I’ve been to 4 PRI trainers, and been to Lincoln Nebraska to the PRI headquarters for treatment and paid thousands of dollars for pri treatment over the years and had them give me glasses and the splint and the orthotics. Did everything they said to do to a tee and nothing changed.
      I use to defend PRI to everyone because it described how my body looked and felt (left aic, right bc) and I was really bought into it like you probably are now. I’ve literally gone up the PRI chain of command to the people who founded it so I can firmly come to a conclusion it’s a scam. The two trainers there literally told me different things and still to this day can’t give me a clear answer. Which is a bummer cause for years I bought into it and firmly believed it was the solution. In hindsight they aren’t necessarily wrong in terms of how the body works and the natural asymmetries of it. But they make people believe only their magic way of thinking can fix it when in reality these asymmetries are commonly understood across healthcare.
      But if you got money to swing around by all means keep doing PRI. All you are doing is paying your PRI trainer’s bills for them lol.

    Neal my right neck always stiffens when trying to inhale in all on fours. I feel left i/o, left serratus, left ql was hurting but not so much anymore but its always the right neck that turns on. Its like nothing is expanding when breathing because of that right neck. Its frustrating.

      And that’s why I say it always comes back to the neck. If the neck won’t let go, you won’t be able to do the technique effectively. But why your neck won’t let go, I can’t say.
