Amazing Luffa Farming and Harvesting - How Luffa Sponges Are Made - Loofa Cultivation Process
- Luffa, a.k.a. loofa or loofah, refers to two species of gourd: Luffa aegyptiaca. Luffas are usually grown for loofah sponges so the fruits are allowed to mature on the vine until they turn yellow or brownish, and then peeled to reveal the matrix of tough fibrous tissues inside that act as wonderful natural sponges. Luffa-derived sponges are tough on dirt but non-abrasive and perfect for washing your face, body, dishes, floor, or car. Crafters even use slices of the dried sponge in soaps to create pretty and useful all-in-one luffa soap rounds.

My friends couldn't believe it when they watched me grow some and make luffas. Minds. Blown.
Called silk gourd in Taiwan and China. A much better material than plastic, totally environment friendly. Great for doing dishes and general scrubbing. People also use them to scrub body when taking bath or shower. Should use them as is. Does not make sense to attach them to plastic pad then seal in plastic bag.
They're turning it into a more "complete" dishwashing sponge by adding cloth to one side and a sponge in the middle to hold water.

I agree completely. They are perfect in their design.
The plastic wrap is for hygiene in transport and sale, it makes perfect sense as for what they're used for thanks but everything you said was in the video anyway.

In Egypt it has been used and still is for hundreds of years.. it was more popular than now but still the majority of Egyptian houses have it.. it's so good to read all the comments of different countries use it.. Loofah union 😄
In panjabi... It's called koocha
Not bad for a plant that came from West Africa
Loofah is a jewel of human domestic economy
Why are so dirty then
This plant is mentioned in the Qur’an and is linked to the name of Egypt
In the past, Egypt may have been the only source of this product
We really have wonderful things, but we do not benefit from them economically like other countries

I'm an Indonesian...we call it 'gambas' for making some vegetable soups, sayur bayam (spinach soup) or sayur bening (Indonesian clear soup). We only use vegetables (loofa, spinach, corn, or raw papaya), without broth in the soup. It tastes refreshing and sweet because we add some sugar and the side dish is corn pancake.

Fifty five years ago, someone gave me a loofa sponge for my birthday. I had never seen or heard of it. I have never been without one since then. They are wonderful.
I thought it came from the ocean like sponge. This is neat

My wife grows it in the backyard the young tender ones are eaten, and the over-ripped ones are turning into luffa sponges. The seed is saved for next year's crop.
In Andhra Pradesh( India) we used to call them in Telugu ‘Ammadi Beera kai’ and ‘Neti Beerakai’. It is very auspicious to eat in Kartikamasam (November December months).
In Nepal it's called Ghiraula ( घिरौंला) which is basically a vegetable but when it gets matured used as body scrubber, dish cleaning etc🙏
What does it taste like?
In india too we eat it
@@SisterDogmata it tastes sweet you can stir fry it and add it to soup too

It's so stupid how they take something biodegradable and natural and mix it with plastic sponge and fabric.
If it's a cotton fabric is it still an issue? Theoretically you could make these and have it plant based....just sayin'. But I do understand your point that blending renewable and non renewable is foolish.
Es verdad, that's what my abuelos used to call it. Estropajo.

Amazing Luffa Farming and Harvesting - How Luffa Sponges Are Made - Loofa Cultivation Process. Interesting and engaging video. I support your video. Watched the video on Aug 27, 2022 very like. Thank you very much
In Sri Lanka it is a mostly used as a food called, Wetakolu. Specifically recommended for the patients who are recovering from the fever, cold or a similar sickness. Of course it is often used as a scrub item too.
Both the young fruit and flower are edible, the leaves can be used as food wrap as well as grape leaves. Quite a good plant though.
I agree with you

Awesome video, thank you!
In Pakistan we have both kind of this plant / crop , one with rough skin and the other with smooth skin . Both kinds are grow and consumedas vegitables and eaten alone or with some combinations of food. It always picked when its seeds are very very smaal and the size is also very smaal but when it is grown up and become over sized and too riped , then people take seeds to preserve for the next season and use the rest of product as cleaning material in house holds .
In the Philippines we called it Patola. It is very delicious when it is cooked. A good source of protein as well.❤️
Oh! Yes that is true it's my favorite I love the smell and I like the sweet taste so delicious ♥️
Malay called it petola
Amazing how many different names it has in different countries.
We also eat the young one of that here in Philippines.

We use the dry fruit (they are sold like that). We remove the outer skin by hand and make a slit to remove the black seeds. No processing is needed and we use the whole fruit as the scrubber. It last about 6-12 months on a regular use. Excellent scrubber for dead skin (do not use on face).

Very useful thing,👌
Toss a fresh loofah in the washing machine for a hot water cycle. After its done it will soften up each time you use it. It will become really soft and comfy to scrub yourself in the bath/shower. Run it in the washing machine once in a while to get rid of soap scum and skin particles.
