    I used the same container and agree, I had to build a structure to keep the sides straight. I'm using a swirl filter built from a garbage container and a 5 gal bucket.

    So I think they cam lubes in the same water, I know the other fish will eat alot of them,...
    So I need to know how many should I out in it at 1 time and how large they should be before I put them in, to discourage the other fish from eating them all..

    Where would one buy prawns for breeding?
    How would this do upscaled to a children's wading pool?
    Could this be done in a garage?
    The water heater is set for 80F, what if the air average temperature is over 100, making the water hotter like in the 90s?
    Can prawns be raised with other animals for farming too?

      I raised my in the basement so you can raise in a garage. Just make sure water temperature is around 80°F, 90°F is fine. Prawns should be raised on it own, no other animals with it.

      Pricing is on my website. I believed my pricing is very good compared to others. I do this as a hobby and just wanted to make enough to cover operating costs.
      Make sure Lake temperature is at least above 70°F. You shouldn't have to add anything, just make sure you don't have any large fishes in it.
      How do you plan to harvest the Prawns?
      You'll need to grow the Prawns to about 1" before stocking your lake. This will give them a better chance of survival if conditions changed.

I want to try to hatch and raise the babies. From what I understand once the eggs hatch the larvae must be put into brackish water at about 4% salinity. I can't find the ratio of marine salt to water to mix. Please help!!!!!

    • @philipp7382

    • @KTPrawns
      @KTPrawns  4 місяці тому

      Use a hydrometer. Slowly add marine salt to your water. Add marine salt in small amounts to your water and measure your water using the hydrometer until it reaches a salinity level you want.

      When raising Freshwater Prawns, square footage of crawl space is more important. Second would be the amount/quantity of water in the container. Depending on harvest size you wants, will determine on the amount of Prawns you can have in the container. Your 1000 liters could be container size of 6ft long x 3ft wide x 2ft depth but I'm not sure. Please visit my website at www.ktprawns.com to find stocking density. Thanks

      That OneGuy The netting help add more crawl space to the container because they like their space. It also give them a chance to get away from other when they are molting or they will get kill/eaten.

      because they are cannibalistic and territorial ... but when each has their own "tiny house" they can stay in there and protect themselves. They all go through life cycles .. they can't grow unless they shed their outer skin (MOLT) when they do this their new skin is very soft and they are vulnerable to attack from other prawn and could get eaten... However with their lil tiny individual homes they just sit there and take whatever food floats by and not leave during this molting time.. then come out only when their hard outer shell is healthy again.

      KT Prawns i visited your website and saw that you sell prawns do you ship them to europe ? In our shops those prawns cost 14€ each prawn and you cant even see if its a male or female.

      +Stefan Strohbach Hi. Sorry but I don't ship outside the US. You country may have laws regarding importing Freshwater Prawns.
      So what is that in US dollars?

      KT Prawns 14 € are 16,72 $ . I mean, when i couuld breed them somehow, than that would really helpful. I personaly raise and breed 2 local saltwater shrimp species ownly even smaller. What do you say ? How much adult prawns can i raise in a 53 gallon tank ? Maybe 1 or 2 ?

    • @KTPrawns
      @KTPrawns  6 років тому

      Stefan Strohbach If you have a substrate in you 50 gallons tank, you can easily raise 3-6 Prawns to full adult size of 6-7 inches.

    How long does it take for them to reach maturity? I am thinking about creating a farm in a caged off section of the lake I live on. The water temps will be ideal during the summer. Maybe there are other breeds that are better suited to temperate climates? Maybe even survive winters? Please let me know your thoughts sir.

      Michael Earnest no crawdads in the lake? Be much simpler to have a few traps in the water...

    • @ChaosAttractor13
      @ChaosAttractor13 5 років тому

      Not in any real big numbers. Catfish pretty much took over and decimated everything. I have not seen one in a very very long time.

    • @TheFrogfeeder

      Well, catfish are good eating, and sounds like they would be free...
      I’m not trying to piss on your parade, just seems like you are creating work where there doesn’t need to be any...
      Catch catfish all summer to get the population in control, filling your freezer in the process, then try to repopulate the lake with crawdads or shrimp or both.
      If I had a 1 acre lake, I’d be in heaven and eating good :)
      Good luck man!

    Can you use a sponge filter. What type food do you feed them? Can you breed them easily? Do have a harvest to plate video? Sorry all the questions I thinking next spring to get them for my family aquaponics. I don't eat prawn but wife and mom does. Thank you for the video and answering my questions. I been following channel for a while. And love it if think raising prawn would be fun.

      Hi. Sponge filter can be use but it can't handle lots of Prawns as the main filter. Purina sink pellets would be a good feed for the Prawns. I don't have any video of harvest to plate but do have some photos on my Facebook page facebook.com/freshwaterprawns/
