Hi Guys! Just want to say Thank You for the great advice for the settings! I just bought the QN90A Europe version(with the ADS panel) a week ago, and the Color Space Settings and 20points white balance settings from the QN85A(with the similar ADS panel) just work excellent with SDR content! It's not matter using for movie, or sport, or just watching the news. You made a Filmmaker Mode without the "yellowish" picture, the red, yellow, magenta colors is no more oversaturated, just great! I defenetly recommend this settings(especially CPS and 20points wb) for the owners of the NeoQled with ADS panel, it's really worth it a try! Keep up the good work, greetings from Budapest,Hungary!
I think we need an updated guide/setting overview for this tv as its had updates from samsung, more in depth SD/HD and specific gaming settings. So far I'm using what's been posted on your website but noticed when I watch UA-cam 4k the settings that I prev set as per your website and I even set as all sources when I changed the settings didn't port over to 4k content and were at default tv settings?? Not sure why? Also need more specific game mode picture settings
In your demo, I see that you are able to change "picture mode" while "Intelligent mode" is on. But on my QN90A "picture mode" is disabled when I turn on"Intelligent mode". Can you let me know how did you do that. And also can you let us know your inputs on "intelligent mode"
Whatever the adjustment they showed, I couldn’t do. I am using tv from last 5 months, intelligent mode is good during bright day light and movie mode is good during night.
That’s the main difference between you guys and others. You suggest but not force to. Most people try to convince that 24p is the best we can have. But what if I don’t like it? Should I throw away my tv? No. You can explain what motion settings are but everyone should find best settings.
Thank you for once again helping me calibrate a new tv. This time the QN90A! I just finished so I don’t have much feedback but I peeked at Cyberpunk and Outriders and they look amazing. Now for TV shows….
I've had my 90a about 2 weeks.. I'm here now (maybe I can improve its picture) but I've had it at moviemaker mode since day 1.. had to get rid of the soap opera effect.. it's done well for various content. If you do only one thing and this is video is much, just do that. Filmmaker mode. Its super easy and gives a great picture.
Hey Robert! In this case, it might help to take a look at some of the resources available online. Like this one: www.trustedreviews.com/explainer/what-is-filmmaker-mode-3970954 We don’t recommend intelligent mode though but this is all personal preference choices!
Can’t find this answer anywhere so a reply would be so helpful. It’s well established in your videos that on Samsung TV’s, “judder reduction” is responsible for motion interpolation, and therefore, the ‘soap opera effect’. You guys never, however, talk about “blur reduction”. What exactly is that, and does increasing that contribute to the ‘soap opera effect’?
The Judder Reduction slider adjusts the interpolation of low frame rate content (30fps), and Blur Reduction is for 60fps content! So the effect will be the same, it just depends on the content you're watching.
We usually recommend leaving them at their default unless otherwise specified in the review. For some of our tests, we do set it to high. But honestly, it's up to you. Try both and see which one you think looks best!
I will know when and Why use gamma 2.2 instead bb.1886 default setting also for filmaker mode that si supposed to be the most correct set. Thanks for answer.
I also would like to calibrate the Samsung tv, can I do it just following your wonderful videos and articles, or do I need any special equipment? Thank you again Fernando
Hi, i jist want to ask what are the reasons why QN90A tv remote suddenly not working? I notice that the red light from the remote didn't show at all. What are the things we need to do? Please help us. Thank you in advance.
Default gamma is set to by.1886 If I switch into 2.2 in movie mode it will change also in filmmaker mode default … it’s no change the original intents??
I bought the 55QN90A (VA panel) version. There are extremely high light bursts (diffusion) on the edges, whether in subtitles or text in dark places. Is there a method I can solve this problem? If I make these settings, will my problem be solved a little bit?
I have 85 inches QN90A. Recently bought it. How do i know my TV is playing HDR 10+. I'm using HDMI 2.0B and i learnt that it unofficially supports HDR 10+. Does the TV display the metadata information or is there a way to enable it. And also, what are the best HDR 10+ contents in Blu Ray and in Amazon Prime. Please Advise.
Screen saver and auto power off wouldn't have any changes outside of the obvious ones, but the other settings on that page can impact it for sure. We just disable everything there by default, but if you want either option you will be fine to use them!
My 85AA is always brightening up the Black Format bars while watching a movie when the area at the bars is very bright (for example bright skies) while the rest of the image is pretty dark - is there any way to fix it?
Can you tell me which brightness setting level would make SDR content at 100 cd/m^2 on this QN90A? Also I saw on your website the best setting for this TV is with Local Dimming leave on "High", but in the video you said should leave it on "Standard", so which one is correct for SDR contents? Thanks
We calibrate as close as we can do 100 nits, so whatever we recommend in our video/settings page would be the recommendation! As for local dimming, our recommendation can change as the TV receives firmware updates, so the information in our review on our website would be the most up to date review!
i think it should be mandatory to start mentioning panel type. for example i purchased the q80t for pc gaming because of its overwhelming positive reviews and specs but nothing was ever mentioned about its panel type and why it matters. well for me the va panel type causing dark smearing effectively turns the tv in to a strobe light under common pc gaming conditions. this is why im looking to get the ips or rather ada panel type of the qn85a right now.
Bought a 50-inch QN90A today. Got dead pixels (1 spot, 4-pixel cluster). Also, on full screen pure blue test I can see some grid pattern probably related to the lighting zones. Four edges are noticeably darker than the rest.
I just bought QN95A (in UK). This TV has major issues compared to Q7F that it replaced. HDR gets dim for no reason, when local dimming is set to anything other than LOW then it drops saturation of certain parts of the screen, black text just smears when you scroll up and down. I am really disappointed with you and other reviewerers for not mentioning thos issues at all.
Hi! Great video, very helpful! My PS5 just updated and can now use VRR, which my q90a supports (HDMI4). However, I am having trouble with the game mode pop-up (pressed the play/pause button). It shows VRR as "off". However, when I check the signal setting it says free sync is running. Is this just a glitch due to the new update or is VRR not really working?
Hey Adam, We've seen a few similar comments recently, so it's possible this might be a Samsung UI related bug. Unfortunately, there's not much more you can do if the PS5 says its working but the TV doesn't. You can verify if it is actually working by clicking the center button and pulling up the HDMI details at the top of the screen, the refresh rate should fluctuate. Hope this helps!
Someone asked about this in the comments under another video and I think the answer was it is actually working but doesn't show it in the game mode popup. But does show it in other places. Not familiar with this and don't know where I saw it. I tried to find it for you but couldn't. Sorry.
Finding it really hard to get an answer on this; What is the brightness of this TV when using with a gaming PC? I have a Q90R and looking to get one of these as a replacement but it depends is the brightness is a decent jump up.
Does this TV or the LG or Sony allow you to customize the “default” picture settings (ie standard, movies, etc.)? I’m going to have a sources going through my AV receiver and into input 4, so it would be nice to be able to have settings saved so I can change them easily based on what I’m watching/playing.
How accurately does it reproduce color? Is it possible to calibrate it at home in order to use it, both for working with graphics (video, photographs, 2D/3D), and for working with text (for programming, but so that the eyes do not get tired). I want to buy a good TV instead of a monitor and use it as an all-in-one display: for games, movies and work. I wanted to buy LG OLED, but I realized that I couldn't afford to throw it out every three years. And I did not find a monitor from 40 inches for this money that could do all of the above well.
What is the setting to that makes this TV not randomly change brightness levels. I love the picture but I have an issue where the TV will randomly get dark in the middle of a scene. Any suggestions? I have all the eco settings in power and energy turned off.
Hello! We actually touch on this in our review: www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/qn85a-qled But what you're experiencing is likely the result of the TVs ABL feature. It isn't something you can turn off unfortunately.

Hi , my name is Mark and I am looking for Samsung TV Such as: 85” 4K UHD HDR QLED Tizen OS smart TV. The model number is: QN85Q70AAFXZC , I don’t know the difference between this and the previous QN85A (model number: QN85Q70AAFXZC ), Are they all real QLEDs? Is there really a big difference between the two? Please tell me , I really need to know, thank you so much
For the most part, it shouldn't make much of a difference. If you look at it from an energy saving standpoint, it'll be more efficient if you unplug the TV, but probably not by much. Also, some TVs perform software upgrades at night, so you may miss some of them if you're constantly unplugging your TV at night. Ultimately, it's your choice, but either option is fine!
They're different TVs, so it'll be at least a little different. Here are the settings from our website though: www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/qn90b-qled/settings Hope it helps!

Thanks for the Great Channel. I relied on it before I bought the QN85A (It just fit our budget!) I am appalled at both the Manual included with the TV, and eManual supplied by Samsung. I expected much more detail for what the TV cost. I can't seem to find how to upscale the 1080P TV signals (via HDMI) from the Shaw Cable box to "near" 4K, with their Intelligent AI upscaling. (Unfortunately Shaw offers no native 4K content unlike Telus. Of course I just signed 2 year contract with Shaw before buying this TV!) Can you advise how to toggle this upscaling on - or is it just supposed to do it automatically? Thanks for the assist.

Hello! For stuff like this, it's best to contact the manufacturer as they can assist you with technical support. We don't like to speculate with product issues because lots of different things can have an impact. You could already try a different cable, but otherwise, tech support from the manufacturer would be the best choice!

Hi just worked it out how to get red on movie mode for TV freeview HD I had to change colour space settings to native. On auto and custom the red is orange dose that seem right to you ?
To be honest these TVs seem way too complicated for the average viewer. I just got the QN85A and I'm trying the preset picture modes. "Standard" is supposed to be the default mode on my TV, but I'm having big problems in Standard mode. The reset values for the Standard on my TV are Brightness 36, Contrast 50, Sharpness 10, and Color 25. At first the picture in the Standard mode looks a bit brighter than the Natural mode and a bit less brighter than the Dynamic mode. But the picture in the Standard mode slowly loses brightness and in just about 30 seconds the picture looks much darker than even the Movie or Filmmaker modes, even though the "expert settings" don't change. Only when I change the mode to something other than Standard and then quickly back to Standard does it return to the proper brightness. But then it keeps getting darker after about 30 seconds. This happens in the Standard mode when playing TV content, cable box content, and BluRay content, but strangely enough keeps its brightness on my Firestick input. Do I just have a bad TV or is there some other setting(s) causing this? Any help would be appreciated.
I recently bought a qn90a model, has there been any reports of white glow patches on the screen after its been turned off? Seems to last a couple of minutes and is intermittent
Congratulations on your information. It seems that the QN90A in Europe has an IPS display, the Tv will be delivered to me next week 9 Dec, I would like to know your opinion if it’s worth to change the order to QN95A with a VA display and pay a bit more? Looking forward to hear from you, Many thanks and Greetings from Portugal Fernando Almeida

Love the idea of Filmmaker Mode, but found it to be INCREDIBLY dark. Seems like it would only be ideal if the room is pitch black. Really a shame that the default settings (Standard) are so terrible and that so much effort is needed to get a decent picture.
Did you manually deselect the adaptive brightness while in filmmaker mode? I didn't realize that needs to be separately turned off while in filmmaker mode. I turned it off while in Standard and couldn't understand why things were so dim sometimes in filmmaker mode. This made a huge difference in brightness to me while in filmmaker mode.
@@dustinwkeys I think so but I'll have to double check (it's my parents' TV). I thought it would have turned it off in that mode. Thanks for the reply!
Question, is there a big difference between Movie and FILMMAKER Mode? I do in fact game a lot in the dark, but does it really matter, I've tweaked my Movie mode settings to fit most recommendations, should I bother going into FILMMAKER mode, tune the settings for that, to compare the 2 modes? Won't it be basically the same regardless of mode when you tune the settings to recommendations either way?
You should try to just follow the prompts on screen and stick with what you think looks best. Everyone is different, so unfortunately we don't have any recommendations for it. Sorry about that!

While we haven't published a video yet, we always include a settings page to go along with our full reviews on our website. So, it's probably best to use the QN90B specific settings, which you can see here: www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/qn90b-qled/settings Hope they help! :)
Hi, I have a QN90A and I'm trying to find out why when I go into the Input Signal Plus menu, the only one I can toggle on/off is HDMI 1. The other three are checked (filled in blue), but are faded out and when I click them it says, "This function isn't available." Any idea what that's about?
On our end, all we had to do was make sure that we accessed the external device manager menu for the input you have your source plugged into. Once we did that, we were able to enable Input Signal Plus.
@@RTINGSdotcom hmm ok. I have my ps5 plugged into 4 and that's one of the grayed out ones. When I'm playing my ps5 in game mode, the game mode dash thing has HDR as "on" so i guess it doesn't matter. So weird. Thank you for responding. You guys are awesome.
your video says VRR/game mode turns on automatically when it detects a console, but i’m on PC. when i start a game, it says VRR is off. at 9:46 in the video you say to get the most out of your gaming experience turn on VRR. you show a menu that manually enables VRR, but at the bottom you have a caption that says: there is no setting to enable VRR, even though you show one. i am very confused, how do i turn on VRR with my PC? firmware is current, game mode auto/on, input set to PC, nvidia control panel g-sync on. also, when game mode is on, it blows out all my colors, like its trying to force HDR, when its not an HDR game. this persists at the desktop when no game is running. HDR says off in game bar in and out of game.
So just to be clear, what we're showing at the 9:48 mark is the actual Xbox menu, not the TV menu. You should make sure Game Mode is set to Auto and make sure to enable Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) in the 'External Device Manager'. VRR should be working at that point as long as you have the hardware to support it (like an RTX card or a FreeSync GPU) and you're in Game Mode. You can try copying our settings while in Game Mode as well if you don't like the picture. We're not sure if you're talking about the same issue but, some owners have reported an issue with colors washing out in certain picture modes. We tried to reproduce the issue on our unit, but it's nowhere near as bad as other owners have reported. It appears that this varies between individual units, and some regional variants, like the Samsung QN91A QLED, might perform worse.
I just got the qn90a and quite disappointed actually , whenever I use hdmi port 4 every cable I use says it recommends a different cable even though I've tried 4 cables , 3 of which are new and whenever game mode is active it says I need to change cable. Picture is either too bright or too dark aswell which is annoying, any help would be appreciated
Hey there, For something like this, it does seem like it might be best to reach out to Samsung directly if you're running into weird issues with the cable. It isn't something we've seen at all, so we're not sure why that would be happening. Sorry about that!
It's actually explained in the video, it was the same for me using PC with the TV. The TV will recognize the source as PC and thus there will be no Movie mode. You need to edit the source tab for the PC, to something else, then Movie mode will unlock.
The Sony X95J is a bit of a downgrade from the Sony X950H in some ways. The X95J has a much better local dimming feature, but the X950H has better black uniformity and better contrast. The X95J is a bit better for gaming, though, with two HDMI 2.1 ports, and it's supposed to receive an update for variable refresh rate support later in the year. You can compare them here: www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/sony-x95j-vs-sony-x950h/21566/1777?usage=1&threshold=0.10

Hello. Can you help me pls. I need to put on game mode if i use tv as monitor for games and i take pc source on tv.? Or pc source no need to put on game mode too? If i try pc source and game mode, my tv starts issue, many white spots on dark screen. Maybe its because of hdmi cable but its issue start only in pc source with gaming mode and hdr but not always...
We noticed you commented this on two difference videos that account for 5 different TVs. Could you confirm specifically what TV you have? If we take the QN85A for example, For 4:4:4 to be displayed properly, the TV must be in 'PC' mode with Input Signal Plus enabled. We also have more detailed settings here: www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/qn85a-qled/settings that could be useful. If you continue to experience technical issues though, you'd have to reach out to the manufacturer for support. Sorry about that!
@@RTINGSdotcom i have 7000 series samsung. Thx for answer. I think i must use pc source with tv as monitor and game made for playstation. No need to use pc source with game mode.
Just got my QN90A, one thing I really hate is Samsung no longer off Analog audio out, so we all need that optical digital to Analog converter box…. Which then leak to another issue, Audios are out of sync. I know we can change the delay, but only limit to 1 source…. When you have local TV, ATV, PC, NAS…. Etc,…. You can only pick 1…. Samsung need to create multiple audio profiles for different source!!! For LCD, picture is top of the line right under OLED. But less than half the price, I’ll wait until OLED fix burn in issues. Only thing weaker than Sony is color, skin tone is not match. Sony has the best skin tone.
If you want proper 4:4:4 while using this TV as a monitor, you'll want to make sure both PC Mode and Game mode are enable for the QN85A and for the QN90A make sure you set the input to 'PC' then have it in game mode as well. Otherwise, you could also check out the pc gaming section of our recommended settings: www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/qn85a-qled/settings Hope this helps!

Great info. Question: I've just got the QN90A and so far it's pretty stellar (coming from an older OLED from LG that had burn-in). One thing I can't seem to get rid of is some stutter on older broadcast cable shows. My wife watches a ton of reruns of stuff like Law & Order. So I know there's some upscaling going on. I don't want to set the judder up as I hate soap opera effect. It only seems to happen on a few channels/shows - USA network, and this show being the main culprit. I'm assuming this is because they're broadcasting a really low rate through my cable box, but maybe I'm missing something. Nearly all other content is looking pretty great so far and I'm following the majority of your setting recommendations.

I have a question please before I buy, what do you prefer samsung qn90a 65 inch or lg c1 65 inch or sony x90j 75 inch or qn85a 75 inch
In your demo, I see that you are able to change "picture mode" while "Intelligent mode" is on. But on my QN90A "picture mode" is disabled when I turn on"Intelligent mode". Can you let me know how did you do that. And also can you let us know your inputs on "intelligent mode"
I have the same question!!

What’s the difference between Filmmaker mode and movie mode? Should we turn on Intelligent Mode on with Filmmaker? And what about Adaptive Picture ?
Hey Robert! In this case, it might help to take a look at some of the resources available online. Like this one: www.trustedreviews.com/explainer/what-is-filmmaker-mode-3970954
We don’t recommend intelligent mode though but this is all personal preference choices!
@@RTINGSdotcom Just a FYI, on your video "Intelligent Mode" shows as "On".

Hi, in the video you leave local dimming setting on standart in HDR. But in review you use high setting. Which one Is better and why ?
We usually recommend leaving them at their default unless otherwise specified in the review. For some of our tests, we do set it to high. But honestly, it's up to you. Try both and see which one you think looks best!
Is there a service menu walkthrough on how to disable local dimming for the QN90A out there?
I will know when and Why use gamma 2.2 instead bb.1886 default setting also for filmaker mode that si supposed to be the most correct set. Thanks for answer.
I also would like to calibrate the Samsung tv, can I do it just following your wonderful videos and articles, or do I need any special equipment?

Hi, i jist want to ask what are the reasons why QN90A tv remote suddenly not working? I notice that the red light from the remote didn't show at all. What are the things we need to do? Please help us. Thank you in advance.
Default gamma is set to by.1886
If I switch into 2.2 in movie mode it will change also in filmmaker mode default … it’s no change the original intents??
Amazing work as usual thanks! Just got my 85" QN85A with VA panel and this helped a lot!

@@lightsshades9778 Yes but only the 85" one ...do some research.
How can I know what's panel my tv has?
What about pictures settings colour brightness gamma etc for gaming?
I bought the 55QN90A (VA panel) version. There are extremely high light bursts (diffusion) on the edges, whether in subtitles or text in dark places. Is there a method I can solve this problem? If I make these settings, will my problem be solved a little bit?
Just a note about your tests you shoukd defiantly start doing a "contrast ratio" in game mode.
For SOME Samsung TVs, you can check what picture modes you have. If you're playing HDR10+ content, then movie mode will show as HDR10+ icon!
3:13 Even "Screen Saver" and "Auto Power Off" affects the brightness and picture quality? I would assume this is not the case right?
Screen saver and auto power off wouldn't have any changes outside of the obvious ones, but the other settings on that page can impact it for sure. We just disable everything there by default, but if you want either option you will be fine to use them!
Thanks so much for this helpful guide!! Liked and Subbed on the basis of the video. Cheers!!
Pleas don´t use the Gamma 2.2, it´s old fashioned. The BT 1.886 ist the standard for HD Content.
i think it should be mandatory to start mentioning panel type. for example i purchased the q80t for pc gaming because of its overwhelming positive reviews and specs but nothing was ever mentioned about its panel type and why it matters. well for me the va panel type causing dark smearing effectively turns the tv in to a strobe light under common pc gaming conditions. this is why im looking to get the ips or rather ada panel type of the qn85a right now.
Bought a 50-inch QN90A today. Got dead pixels (1 spot, 4-pixel cluster).
Also, on full screen pure blue test I can see some grid pattern probably related to the lighting zones.
Four edges are noticeably darker than the rest.
Did you buy in US or Europe?
How did you do these test?

Hey Adam,
We've seen a few similar comments recently, so it's possible this might be a Samsung UI related bug.
Sorry.
make sure the game supports it, and if not you have to force VRR on PS5
Thank you. That was quick and easy.
Finding it really hard to get an answer on this; What is the brightness of this TV when using with a gaming PC? I have a Q90R and looking to get one of these as a replacement but it depends is the brightness is a decent jump up.
Hello Thank you for the video....."Picture Size Settings" is grayed out,,, could you please help me enabling this?
Same here! Some help would be great!
Does this TV or the LG or Sony allow you to customize the “default” picture settings (ie standard, movies, etc.)? I’m going to have a sources going through my AV receiver and into input 4, so it would be nice to be able to have settings saved so I can change them easily based on what I’m watching/playing.
Thanks. Nice video. But why my picture clarity settings is greyed?
do you run through a PC?

Is it best to put the TV on standby when your not using it or knock the plug off On the wall?
For the most part, it shouldn't make much of a difference. If you look at it from an energy saving standpoint, it'll be more efficient if you unplug the TV, but probably not by much. Also, some TVs perform software upgrades at night, so you may miss some of them if you're constantly unplugging your TV at night. Ultimately, it's your choice, but either option is fine!
Would all the same settings apply also to the QN90B or would there be any differences? Thanks :)

For stuff like this, it's best to contact the manufacturer as they can assist you with technical support. We don't like to speculate with product issues because lots of different things can have an impact. You could already try a different cable, but otherwise, tech support from the manufacturer would be the best choice!

The Filmaker is the best option, the movie one not saved. Once TV restarted the setting you done removed.

We haven't reviewed the QN95A, but you can try out the settings for sure! They are probably pretty close.
your video says VRR/game mode turns on automatically when it detects a console, but i’m on PC. when i start a game, it says VRR is off. at 9:46 in the video you say to get the most out of your gaming experience turn on VRR. you show a menu that manually enables VRR, but at the bottom you have a caption that says: there is no setting to enable VRR, even though you show one. i am very confused, how do i turn on VRR with my PC? firmware is current, game mode auto/on, input set to PC, nvidia control panel g-sync on. also, when game mode is on, it blows out all my colors, like its trying to force HDR, when its not an HDR game. this persists at the desktop when no game is running.

For something like this, it does seem like it might be best to reach out to Samsung directly if you're running into weird issues with the cable. It isn't something we've seen at all, so we're not sure why that would be happening. Sorry about that!
How can i adjust picture size? Its not avaible.. i dont like wide screen.
Mine doesn't have a movie mode or filmmaker mode. Could it be because I am using it as a gaming monitor and internet?
Go to system admin (general menu) user mode: domestic (not commercial mode). See if you can now see the filmmaker filter.
change your source from the main menu tab
It's actually explained in the video, it was the same for me using PC with the TV. The TV will recognize the source as PC and thus there will be no Movie mode. You need to edit the source tab for the PC, to something else, then Movie mode will unlock.

No picture quality setting changes suggested for game mode?
If you want, you can copy our SDR settings over to the Game Mode if you want the more accurate picture.

Anyone know how to set a home screen background on the QN90a? In this video they have a bridge background...
Is 50" should be same ?
Guys i need help or at least answer. I bought qn85A with ADS panel. All works great but some red colours are just blowing my eyes for exalmple on app list „RakutenTV”. This red is too bright but there are red colours that looks great. Pls tell me is this something that can be calibrated or its some kind of damage in TV.
If you can try to send us a picture or video of the issue on one of our other social platforms, it might help us better assess the situation. If you're worried about it being damage to the TV though, then you may want to contact Samsung support directly!
@@RTINGSdotcom should i post the screens on your facebook or on messanger ?? Ill try to catch the ptoblem on the phone.
game mode picture settings is different from movie mode and filmmaker mode, so should I change game mode picture settings to match the movie mode you recommended or it will raise the input lag ?
as long as you have Game Mode enabled the input lag will be good, you can still change settings within Game Mode to get your preferred picture
