I couldn't find any callibration/settings guides for the Samsung QN85D but I set all these up and SDR/HDR TV and Gaming look 👌 thanks so much for posting this!
Sharpness around 10 is clearly the native setting. I keep seeing forums and articles saying it should be 0 for these panels, but at 0 the screen is a blurry mess when reading text and I can't see the compression artifacts in low bitrate video. Maybe my eyesight is too good or something. I also turn off local dimming completely for SDR content. Update: it's 10 for HDMI inputs, 0 for native. Good one, Samsung.
Using these settings on my Samsung Q70 and works great with SDR and HDR for both movies and gaming. I do use CE on Low for gaming as found on the HDR Gaming it was a little dim with it off. Thanks for the video.
Great video. I very much agree to color on 35 for HDR gaming on the QN90B. That's what I set, even before watching this. Also, SDR movies and UA-cam, backlight 20 seems enough, even in daylight. That's how bright this TV is.
Pretty much exactly how I've set it up on my qn90a 😂. Personally, i feel like the CE looks great on animated stuff, but i don't wanna keep changing settings so off still seems fine to me.
Call me pervert but my saturation is at 35, contrast at 50 and contrast enhancer and local dimming at high. Movie mode and warm2. Probably the setting is a trillion km away from accurate but I like it. And nobody else complained yet too.
Appreciate the video. Just bought the 75" QN90B and excited to start fine tuning. Couple of questions: How do I get the setting menu on the side of the TV. Only quick settings menu I have is at the bottom and has way more detail. Also, are you setting your game settings in game mode, under custom? Thanks in advance
I just bought an 85QN90B and I've been playing around with different settings and no matter what I do, there's this yellow tint to the picture, I will copy this setting when I get home and see if it will do some magic, at the moment, the picture quality on my 2019 Q90R is better than what I have on my QN90B sadly.

Hi kg, something is really off in my new 55 qn90b on 1420 firmware, in sdr game mode there is a brightness and contrast in hightlights that look "hdr like" and dont make sense, looks simply wrong. Also local dimming standard and high is the same in game sdr and hdr. In movie mode, local dimming changes if i go low to standart, high back to standard doenst change and looks like it stays in high. Hdr movie mode works normal, is that some 1420 bug?
Are you using game hdr on or off? It looks like game hdr under tracks the eotf with the most recent firmware on the s95b. Was curious if that is also true for the qn90b since they share the same firmware
What are the best TV settings to be used with a cable box providing a 1080p signal to the TV through a HDMI port. I noticed horrible blurriness and picture artifacting on a new QN90B and had to return it. I had all new HDMI 2.1 48Gbs cables as well. Just couldn't get it to look great. I may have just had a bad TV, nothing ever looked great.
the problem with 'auto' on color space is that it will use the color space that is set on 'Personal' so when we chose 'auto' it sets to 'DCI-P3', it's an issue samsung never fixed hehe.
I found that for games in HDR local dimming standard and high dimm the small bright higlights too aggressively, and since it is bumpung up overall brightness of image which is nice, it also totally destroys the white text when it is on larger black background (like some game menus). Text appears gray, sometimes it is even barely visible, and it should be bright white. I dont like it very much and i'm wondering if i chose good tv (I have QN91B). I will be experimenting with setting local dimming to low, but what is the point of getting fancy (and expensive...) mini-led panel then? Propably should have bought oled for just a little more money. About sharpness, I set this to zero according to rtings recommendation, but lately I connected TV to PC and set 100% scale to check the image quality and it looks like every sharpness below 10 is actually blurring, not sharpening. I see this especially on the text. Like 10 was 0, and all below 10 should be in fact negative values... Strange, did you notice same on yours?
@@TechWithKG I actually have the S95B and it’s in my living room. The room is well lit during the day but I gotta say it looks great. I’m second guessing my decision because a worker suggested I go the QN90B route.. not sure if you’d still recommend it given that situation

The brightness does not equal the backlight only. This new circuit combines the luminance level and the LED backlight to be controlled together at a predetermined level witch was set by engineering at Samsung. This new way of controlling the backlight and the luminance together makes it easier to adjust like the way old school CRT TVs worked.
@@TechWithKG Yeah, that's what I figured. I use it for desktop use and in HDR, there's no black crush without having to mess with anything. On SDR though, even in a dark room with high brightness, I can't see the first 5 squares in the lagom dark test, so I lose a lot of details in dark scenes. Ideally shadow detail 2 or 3 worked better for black crush, but then I start to lose some of the rich color, so I made a compromise of using +1 instead.

I've had the 85" QN90B since Sept. of 2022, and maybe I just hit the jackpot and won the panel lottery, as I know that all LCD/LED-back-lit TV models can vary from panel to panel. Because honestly, ever since our TV was delivered here on Sept. 8 of last year (same day the Queen of England died) the TV's screen when filled with an entirely white image shows NO dirty screen effect (DSE) at all, but only a white picture image with NO gray in it, or any dark spots in the white picture. And as critical as I've long been about TV picture quality (my Dad worked on repairing & adjusting TVs in the late 1960s as I was in my teens) DSE would make me mad if I noticed it in viewing Blu-rays or 4k UHD Blu-rays of movies that, for example, have outdoor scenes of a light blue sky that reveals dirty screen effect, as viewers can see gray areas or dark splotches on a cloudless clear sky, which is just supposed to be light blue. BTW, OLED panels can also suffer from DSE, though that picture shortcoming does tend to be found somewhat less often in OLED TVs that pass quality control standards than is the case with LCD TVs.
My picture settings for the 2021 55" QN85A: SDR Brightness usually 20's Contrast 40 Sharpness 2 Color 25 CE Off Color tone Warm2 Color Space Auto Gamma BT.1886 / 0 Shadow detail 0 Local dimming Standard HDR Brightness 50 Contrast 50 Sharpness 3 Color 25 CE Off Color tone Warm2 Color Space Auto Gamma ST.2084 / 0 Shadow detail +1 Local dimming High for dark room, Standard for lit room Games about the same, but I keep shadow detail at zero for HDR. All motion smoothing disabled on all modes.
Pretty much the same as me, each to their own but seeing people putting CE on and changing gamma and SD to 1 extreme or the other baffles me, don't think it looks natural at all.
@@phillydavison Yeah, agreed. Worse yet some people using standard, dynamic or "intelligent" modes. But that's personal taste, to each its own. I personally like a neutral picture calibrated to D65, which is actually the "true standard". And most TVs nowadays get very close to this on their movie and filmmaker presets. Without individual hardware measured calibration, people would be better just choosing these presets and not touching them at all.
I mostly followed this advice for my 80 inch 8K QLED TV except I bumped the shadow detail up to +1 and keep the brightness down at 25 (this is to save my eyesight). Sharpness I set at 8, rather than 7. Looking at fine text up close to the screen clearly shows that this is the sweet spot. At least for me on non-native 4k resolution. This TV tends to have blinding brights and lacks shadow detail to a horrible degree. Overall, it's simply not a good display. It's completely sugar coated so that it looks nice and bright on display in stores, but you get it home and it's anything but accurate and just simply awful. Samsung should have done a better job on engineering these TVs. Perhaps even worse than the picture is the sound quality.

It's completely sugar coated so that it looks nice and bright on display in stores, but you get it home and it's anything but accurate and just simply awful. Samsung should have done a better job on engineering these TVs. Perhaps even worse than the picture is the sound quality.
My QN90B has a yellow tint overall, could you pls share how to specifically fix that? Thanks.
@@eigh8plus 99% of people will be fine with a few little changes all these TV picky people that have issues with otherwise rather amazing pictures is laughable....calling a TV trash because expect it to perform like 10k television for a 2k price but something better then.
Did you send it back?
I don't agree about sharpness
20. And use optimized mode.
lot of Samsung hate in here lol....go buy a Sony for 3k more then.
