His voice is stronger, more nuanced, perfect. So many rockers lose their range and clarity. He is fantastic.
Gary Numan is from the future .
This epic synth line still cuts glass. The goosebumps still there after 40 years, clearly one of the better synth lines ever put together.
It's as iconic as the opening bars of Beethoven's 5th symphony: repeats throughout. Same with the bassline. Two great rhythms in one.
beeep bopbop beep bop
44 years
45 and still cutting
It's the sound of the 80s making a Grand Entrance
I'm a black dude and always loved this song, this guy have really did a great job taking care of his self. Big ups
Black lady, always loved this too
This live version has so much energy! Great performance.
Please see also the Gary and NiN version!!!!
Going to see Gary Numan on my birthday Tuesday in Liverpool, I know I'll just burst out crying when he sings this. Memories. Remember this from eons ago......❤
Vous avez bien de la chance !!!
The soundtrack of my teenage years. Thanks Gary. It was fun.
It sure was! Grateful our childhoods had such a killer soundtrack.
A timeless classic, it's hard to believe that next year Cars will be 40 years old. Ffff I'm getting old I bought it in 1979 as a single .when it was released in the UK. It still sounds good though. Glad to see Gary still plays it live.
wait this song came out in 1979? i thought it came out in the 90's i heard it from the PS1 game called Test Drive 6,wtf that means this song was wayyyy ahead of its time!
Of course hes going to play it it's the song that made him
Well I am also a metal head but I love this stuff still have the LP and single from 79 😁
@@Ballterra I saw Gary on his (R)evolution tour. He's still one of the most underated greats I am a metslhead BUT I'm a Numanoid first
You're not wrong there m'dear......polo?
Voice hasn't changed!!! Gives me chills!!
I really think it has gotten even better even more power & raw emotion Loooove it 🥰
Makes me wonder if it's REALLY live voices/music.
I think he actually sounds better now.
@@xymox61 It's obviously live. The Top of The Pops video from 1979 was mimed.
@@markcheetah4960 nah I think it might actually have been re-recorded in the studio. Not to say that he doesn't sound amazing live (I saw him just over a week ago!), but these recordings sound a bit too polished. I don't really care either way, still love this.
You are so damn ahead of your time. What is it like watching the world trying to catch up to you?
exactly
Ladies and Gentlemen: MR GARY NUMAN!!!! THE Pioneer of Elecronic Music!!! No words to describe his Mega Talent, his Greatness!!!
Perhaps Kraftwerk are the pioneers of electronic music.
@@carstenmarquardt9416 😂🤘🤘👌👌👍👍👍
@@carstenmarquardt9416 none of them are pioneers but amazing artists yes they are!
@@renanalves5981 - That would be Delia Derbyshire’s legacy.
Absolutely right!
Years, decades, later--Gary Numan keeps kicking fucking ass.
Great performance! Gary Numan has been consistent since his beginning, certainly an irreplaceable artist.
I'm five years away from social security but Gary Numan is about the only artist who can perform like time stood still ... Sad to say, the rest are either dead or sound like they're almost there.
The layers of sound and how it just keeps stacking and building throughout the whole song until it just epically ends! Wow what a performance!!! So good!!
This song always had such momentum, but when they drop the bass line by two octaves it sounds like some great leviathan lifting off the sea floor. Absolutely incredible.
This is still one of the greatest from the 80s, and his music is still stand the time !!
I love his moves and I love everything about Gary numan
That is because he is literally money.
Got to meet him and he is absolutely lovely
Gary Numan is a unique specimen .
The first time I met Cars in GTA: Vice City at the age of 6-7 (15-16 years ago) and now I unerstand that I do love such music
am loving since I was child
thank you for your art, Gary
*with Russia from love :D*
I listen Gary Numan since 80 wonderful music 🎶🎹🎤♥️🙂👍
The first time I heard Cars was when I saw the video for the first time in 1989.
Я тоже слышал эту британскую музыку из Вайс Сити. Эх, ностальгия...
You are deep. Thanks for sharing! I was 9 when I lost my mind over this song.
42 years on and this still sends shivers up this Numanoids spine!
60+, lookin damn good in his see-thru shirt & putting on a great show... 💛💯
He has taken very good care of himself
WOW!!!! Just listened to the original, and BOOMMMMM, this popped up!!! Freakin' awesome!! 🔥🤘🔥
such a classic l miss those good old days over 3 decades ago, l met my 1st boyfriend and best friend via Gary Numan, who remembers tik n tok loved them too 😁
You know, I think he sounds even better now! That’s magic 😗🥰❤
I remember back in 1979 when I was in middle school we had a jukebox in our lunchroom and I always praised anyone who played this song besides me! :p
The whole song is an exclamation mark! So intense and close it almost hurts. Brilliant is not enough. It is simply the Song.
I remember... Thankyou... I'm 63 now and still love this song ... your Amazing... Mr. GARY Numan.🌷
Love Gary, the song, and this performance.. but the performance of Cars with Nine Inch Nails.. is just mind-blowing.
@MSL .MSL was lucky enough to be there
The Fear Factory cover featuring him in the video is pretty decent too
It was absolutely amazing. The first few seconds of the intro and watching the crowd explode with excitement. Best thing I've seen on UA-cam in a while.
100%
Sounds so much more powerful and rich played live! This could stand up to any track being released here in 2022!
Gary just rocks live ... I've seen him twice and nothing but the best from him... he lives to perform
This has got to be the SICKEST LIVE VERSION OF THIS SONG....EVER! The acoustics are just awesome
CARS, this is the song!
Hearing this revamped version last night was a dream. The synth & bass were my heartbeat, my lifeline, if only for a short while. Pure magic.
I love Gary Numan because he doesn't suckup to the fans .
Man he is great, bought this record when it came out 1980ish... the drummer is freaking amazing
the love for the world, is our love.
43 years old song and still could be a song from today...fantastic artist, and fantastic music that never get old.
Love Gary Numan . Love the unique wardrobe . Love the ass kicking band .
Gary Numan doesn't age .
Voice is deeper and has more texture. Amazing!
Forty eight thumbs down? Unthinkable. You can all Naff Off and leave the rest of us to enjoy this magnificent performance. Thank you Gary, for many years of music but nothing is as special for me as this song. The first one I purchased on 45rpm.
This is NASCAR theme song.🏍️🚗🏎️⛽
Toujours aussi bon sa musique !
This song was ahead of its time.. said many times, said nuf
Love the version. I'm glad he is still kicking it. Love the energy he emits to his audience. ❤❤
What a great time in music. The B52s had just come out, the Ramones were killing, Plasmatics were selling records and this simple song "Cars" was fantastic and memorable. Glad to see he's still out and about.
Ur so right. 1979 was Gold. Ty
Gary Neuman is an amazing artist- i have listened to him since I was 12 years old
Back in the day and he still is a creative genius that keeps bringing new ideas and artistry that is unmatched today- so eternally grateful
Still sounds fresh! Still remember every word. Brought this 7" single 💖🥰
Can’t wait to see him and the band in Edinburgh next year…Scotland welcomes you
What an awesome song!! Damn!! And he's aged well.
This kicks ass! Hello from Tyler Texas!
The first new wave song I ever listened to back in 1979.
A Gary Numan classic
I love this song
I got to know this song in 2020 playing GTA Vice City and immediately loved it
2022 I listened to it on Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy game and immediately fell in love.
My mentor.
Saved to buy and teach myself to play a Moog in JrHS in 79 after hearing his magical music.
He is the godfather of electronic music.
I see him in concert everytime he performs in SoCal. Just saw him in Pomona a few weeks ago.
GN 🤙🤙🎤🎤💥💥🙏🏼🙏🏼
You know what's crazy I'm only 27 but my dad was always playing Gary Numan all the time and constantly when I was growing up and still till this day I'll listen and there's no doubt I'll carry on listening even when I'm in my 60s/70s 😂
I was in grade 6 when I first heard it I and it was really fun crazy dance.
Excellent performance, great set and outfits are perfect
Sounds amazing!! Absolutely magical ❤️🇬🇧🎼🎹🚗🇬🇧❤️
Dude is a musical genius, one of the best
Absolutely iconic sound!!
I grew up with this music as I left school. It’s timeless and so 80’s UK, cutting edge. I always loved music that was different. The beginning of the synth era and I was hooked. Thanks Gary 🇦🇺👍🙏
Love everything about Gary Numan still....was my favourite band in the 80s. He is still fab!!!
Always the best!
Yeah
This makes me so happy! ❤️
Puts the rock and roll into electronic music ❤
Wow...even more transporting than ever. Gary Numan is a performance artist, my gosh, the passion he exudes.
40 years old today. Happy birthday, Cars!
Absolute Genius still gives me Goosebumps 40 years on. ❤❤❤❤
40 years later and still get chills wow
The inspiration for the song:
The idea for “Cars” first came to me in my car in 1977. I was driving my Ford Cortina in West London when traffic came to a halt.
For some reason, two men in the van ahead of me got out and walked toward my car. They looked angry.
As they approached, I assumed I must have done something to them. Maybe I cut them off or they thought I was someone else. Because of my Asperger’s, I had no clue.
When they reached my car, they shouted, banged on the hood and tried to open my door. They even attempted to smash my window. To get away, I drove up onto the sidewalk.
Fortunately, the pavement was quite wide. I drove along, with people leaping to one side. Finally, I reached a cross street and drove off. I never did find out what the fuss was about.
I’ve always dreaded crowds, yet I’m noticeably relaxed in a car. I come down several notches in there. A locked car is a quiet, controlled environment. I feel safe from crowds.
Since it's release, this song still takes me to destinations unknown til this day!
Drummer is just on Fire Killin it
Still EPIC after more than 40 years...
I love that he is still doing this!
A must see and best live performance of Cars: NIN backing Newman as their special appearance w/ Trent on tambourine -still under my skin. Newman in an interview spoke of having Aspergers and how it contributed to his writing. So damn humble, present and still everyone’s favorite resident alien.
That NIN video makes this one just seem dull. When you have Trent Reznor sweating his ass off rocking a tambourine, you know you have something special going on.
hell i didn't expect this, amazing, on the borders of metal, beautiful noise, gary always in the future.
Always the best!
Absolute Genius still gives me Goosebumps 40 years on. ❤❤❤❤
Pure pleasure!
Did you get the tingles, nice. I remember too :-) KEEP IT TECHNO
Es impresionante este hombre perdura en el tiempo .....
My mother used to play this for me like 40 years ago. I was 9 and would lose my damn mind. What a legend Gary Numan is.
Cool mum 😋
Es uno de mis temas favoritos, me recuerda a inicios de los 80s, al punto que cuando compre mi primer coche, puse esa canción y fue la primera canción que lo escuche en mi Renault nuevo.
I absolutely love this track.reminds me of my youth..i had such a crush on gary,he still looks good and voice.. wow.. just as good 😙
Storytime: First time I ever seen the official video...I was about 6 years old. It was 3 in the morning, give or take. I don't know if I was drawn to the music or what...but I recall entering the pitch black kitchen and entering the well lit living room where "Cars" was playing. I have no idea where my parents were, or why the TV and lights were on, or why is was set to the video channel (which was brand new at the time) I also am unsure of what happened after the video, or seeing ANYBODY in particular, but the hard synth line had me in its deadlights and I've been hooked on synth keyboards ever since.
Can’t wait to see this song live this Saturday 🖤🥁🎤🎼
i for one am glad you took out the audience. moreover, this live release is exponentially better than the 80s release despite it being a timeless classic - well done my friend
I thought I knew these melodies from somewhere it's sang by you Gary , I've heard this song ages ago but I didn't know who the singer was. Now I know Gary. Fabulous vibey song performance. I love it. 😄😄🙆🙆🎶🎶🎶🎶🎸🎹👍👍👏👏❤
Pure awesomeness!! It gave me chills....Long Live Gary
Gary:
Grettings Saludos from Tijuana México !!
He still look so young. I'm 55yrs old now and heard this song growing up. This song is a classic. God bless you Gary Newman. ❤
Best numan song ever.kim ❤
Wow this is just pure classic awesomeness ! His voice not changed ! Thei was the 2nd song I ever bought in 1979 when I was 7! First song I ever bought with pocket money was “Are Friends Electric” by Tubeway Army .... wow Gary ! You Rock ! Xx
I was born in 1972 and, sadly, I never knew much about him until the last few years. Love discovering his music now. Amazing how great he STILL sounds.
@@GASHUBOY I was born same year ! Xx
Im way to young to know wen this song came out im ony 29 years old but i have hard this song over millions of times and i a huge classic rock fan gary is a grate singer and a wonderful paformer i still liston to this song every day lol
Not only great music, thats a light show also .(bonus)😂
People today, still hear this and say: "oh it's that great song from the 80s"...not gonna lie, sometime around 2002 I heard this amazing song from an Apple iTunes (punk/synth rock) list recommendation with epic music from the 80s. It opened my door to the wonders of Gary Numan. I only heard this song on the radio when it came out (I was a baby two years old) maybe heard it again once or twice during my childhood. I'm glad I caught onto it, bought many Gary's albums because of it!! ❤❤
It was the hook that got me hooked in 1980. Been a fan since. Keeps getting better. I feel Like Gary is the God of industrial rock like Ozzy is the God of metal. Two of my favorites.
Big fan from the early days. Never saw you live, I seriously need to change that!
... sarap kasama sa E-Numan si G-Numan ... Yahuhuhuy !
God there so into it !!!!
