    Really enjoyable to shoot Fuji X cameras with film lenses. I used to throw one of my favorite Minolta lenses, the 50mm f/1.4 Rokkor X on my XT3 for wedding and portrait work. Really great look.

    Zoom in plus focus peaking made shooting vintage lenses so easy and enjoying on mirrorless. I actually think xs10 is even better because of IBIS. It makes a lot difference when on 85mm or 135mm. Also zone focusing is really cool! You don't even need to check the screen or view finder, just confident that you can have the subject in focus.

    You're killin' me, man! After being a dedicated Leica-M user for decades, the bad taste in my mouth from their bungled first digital, the M8, caused me to sell the entire kit: bodies plus all my Leica lenses. Now (years later) I've discovered the Fuji X-E3 and sorely wish I still had my Summicron 35mm f/2 lens. Love your videos.

    This is EXACTLY the reason I've pre-ordered an X-E4, I'm so happy you made this video. I have a couple of M-mount lenses I use with an M6 and really wanted a tiny camera that I could use that glass with. Super excited for it to arrive. Great video!

    I do use zone focusing all the time with my Fuji lenses. The only thing I do is to use an elastic around focus ring to prevent me to turn it accidentally and then use a pre defined button to focus at a determined range zone. Then I am ready to “hit” the street. Btw great as always!

    On your x100V you should easily be able to zone focus and the speed and mushiness of the focus by wire becomes irrelevant as you shoot your zone. In manual focus just set it to your distance and know your zone for the aperture set. If you change your manual focus scale (enable for screen and or viewfinder) to film rather than pixel then the blue bar shown will better represent the acceptable depth of focus for current settings. Hope it helps a bit.

    You can zone focus with any Fuji lens/camera combination by using the distance/DoF scale in the viewfinder. Focus on a point and then adjust the aperture for the 'zone' of DoF you want. If I could live with a .62x VF mag. and no IBIS I'd get one, but 70 year old eyes and hands preclude that.

    I really enjoy the Voigtlander 35mm nokton adapted onto my xpro 3. it's a great little 50ish equivalent and produces some of my fav work I've made with the camera. with focus peaking turned on it worked well
    One drawback of that setup is unfortunately the OVF doesn't correct for parallax anymore but felt really natural to use regardless!

    I've got both the the Urth M-to-X and F-to-X mount adapters for my X-Pro2. I usually only throw them on when I'm feeling a little bored, but lately, they're all I've been using.
    I just tried the M-Rokkor 40mm--which is an awesome little lens (and which you can get for pretty cheap for M-mount glass. The quality was excellent, but the ~60ish focal length was a little strange for me.
    Usually, I'm using my Nikkor 28mm f2.8 or my Zeiss Biogon f2. I don't get anything other than a standard angle, but put things on 16:9 and you get movie frames.
    The focus peaking and OVF viewer make manual lenses a joy to use on the X-Pro system. I just wish the ranges were accurate (the M-mount lenses, in particular, seem to think they're a little closer than they are).

    Almost my entire kit uses my vintage Pentax, Nikon, Minolta, and even Mamiya glass. I shoot a ton of Mamiya (645 Pro TL, RB67 ProSD, C220, and C330) these days and the rest are either from me shooting Pentax or Nikon/Minoltas I've been given over the years or spotted dirt cheap in good/restorable condition at flea markets. When I shot Sony I think the only lens I had was the kit lens I got bundled for free on special. Now I shoot MFT with an E-M5 II and Pana G9. I've been trying to decide if I want to get an E-M1 III for handheld hi-res + improved IBIS or a Fuji X-pro(2/3)/X-S10/X-T30 to accompany my XF10 compact camera. The film simulations are a big draw, they complement that softer look/feel of vintage glass quite well.

    Man I wish Fujifilm made a Full frame X-E4 with a true rangefinder (or a larger digital viewfinder). I love both my X-E3 and Minolta CLE, but the crop factor isn’t that great for film era lenses, and the small viewfinder on the X-E cameras makes manual focus less fun.
    The Minolta is a small and light Camera, so the X-pro series is too bulky and heavy to make the shooting experience similar.

    Quick question: when adapting your Leica lens onto this, did the focus distance scale actually correspond to the distance you focused to? I'm thinking of buying a Voightlander lens to adapt on this or an XE3 because I prefer zone focusing. I can't confidently do that with the infinite wire focus on most Fuji lenses with the way I work on the street. I prefer to prefocus and just shoot when my subject walks into the zone I'm in. But I've read reviews elsewhere that the distance scale doesn't match up because of the different distance between the sensor and the back element of the lens vs film cameras or a full frame digital Leica. wonky question, but just wondering what your experience was?

      I've been using M-mount adapters since the XE2. The frustrating answer is that most adapters are slightly too thin to accommodate variances in manufacturing tolerances and so your zone focus will be a little back focused. But there is a work around! And that's the close-focus adapter version. With it you can put your M lens at infinity, then focus the adapter to infinity. Then you have a solid starting point for zone focusing.

  • @REMY.C.
    @REMY.C. 3 роки тому +1

    Thank you for the video because it answers questions I had.
    I don't get why Fuji didn't implement the focus ring locking mechanism in it's small lenses or X100 like there's on the 23mm 1.4. I prefer to shoot with zone focusing but Fuji's focusing rings are so smooth that they are unreliable without this locking mechanism. I bought the Mitakon 35mm 0.95 just to have a cheap reliable manual lens with a gorgeous zone focusing chart (I miss that so much). I was looking into that Fuji's adapter thinking about acquiring some good manual lenses and I'm looking to use my old Pentax ones too.
    It's really not about being kind of a snob, it's just that there's times for reliable autofocus and times for manual focusing.

If you want the film experience, get some gaffer tape and tape over the screen. It took me some time to adjust but after a bit, I really enjoy shooting with it. The should have made it much cheaper though. Voigtlander Cosina also makes a nice but horribly overpriced Leica adapter that incorporates a close-focus mechanism.

    I like the black taping. looks cool!. The P mode in dial button can not be used as auto mode? Is there no aperture priority or shutter priority mode? If I want to use this as back up camera to take wedding pics with prime camera, is this fine? Or should go for T-30?

    It is the focus zone accurate tell by the lens even if you use it on an apsc sensor? or you have to apply the crop sensor also?

    I almost exclusively just shoot my X-E2 with vintage glass. My only native Fuji mount lens is the 23mmF2 and a Rokinon 12mm. How do you like the Minolta M mount IQ on the X-E4? I'm sure it comes out different from your film shots considering it's cropped.
    Seriously tempted to get the X-E4 with 29mm kit lens to get that CLE aesthetic.

    What a good idea! Thought I will find nothing on internet about M lens to Fuji, thanks for doing this. But is the M lens and XE4 body combo limited to shoot with screen and doesnt work with the viewfinder?

    Set your x100v manual focus from linear to non-linear then it will focus more like a manual lens.

    Hi Faizal! Thank you for your videos/reviews! They´re very useful. I´m thinking about buying a X-E4 with a 16mm and a 35mm f2 lenses and I´m also planning to use it with dozens of vintage lenses that I have. Is it easy to use the fuji X-E4 with focus peaking? I never used a fuji camera before but I have/had a lot of canon, sony and leica cameras (dslr and mirrorless).

    Do you just leave it on AF-S when using manual lenses since it doesn’t matter if you are using zone focusing anyways?

    Interesting video, thank you. I now own both the X-e3 and 100v. The former with an adaptor. Trying to figure out which one to keep. Leaning towards the X-e3 and mixing up different lenses. Did you end up keeping both the 100v and x-e4?

    weird question, u know, cause even in the good'ol 2012, x-pro 1 had adapter included for leica M..

    Somebody says that the picture in EVF is quite soft when taking photo. But it is sharp when playback in EVF. Do you have problem to use peaking focus with Leica lens? Is it clear and easy to see peaking focus point in EVF? I have some LEICA lenses and would like to use them with XE-4. I would appreciate for your advice.

    Hey Faizal!
    Quick question about the zone focusing.
    Your 28 is like a 42 with the crop sensor, so you have to adapt it when using the marks on the lens right? Because the focus zone won't be the same than a 28 on a FF sensor?
    Am I right or not?
    Keep doing the good work, your chanel is great :)

    Cool video! But I see that you shoot more B/W photos recently. Any special reason? I'm just wondering because your colour photos are always really awesome and inspiring. I never really got into B/W-photos personally, but Your compositions are pretty cool!

    hi, great video! I've actully pre-ordered the X-e4 for that purpose. can you still use aperture priority when you use "shoot without lens"? ie does the light meter still work and does the camera still selects the right shutter speed for you even if it does'nt know what the aperture setting is? thanks for your work

    • @FaizalWestcott
      @FaizalWestcott  3 роки тому +2

      Metering, aperture priority, and auto shutter speed all work with the adapted lens still! You just don't get the aperture reading on the back screen

    I hate the X-E4 logo in this camera and is the main reason I haven´t purchased it. How did you hide it? It´s only a black tape or is something else? Because it looks so beautiful! Thank you!

    It doesn't make sense to call a lens a 'full frame equivalent lens' as you stated. A 28mm lens designed for full frame will have the crop factor on the Fuji as as 28mm lens designed for APS-C.

    • @fredbloggs545
      @fredbloggs545 3 роки тому

      Yes, he knows. It's just a phrase used to simplify FoV between APS-C and FF without having to go into some massive technical discussion.

    Thanks for your video! I wanna find a apsc camera using m lens, I thought CL. But still a little expensive, I have used Fujifilm before, but it’s photo looks “flat” and not so pop contrast as Leica or FF feeling, how about you feeling when lens using on Fujifilm?
