- My 2010 Street Glide. I go over what parts have been installed and my personal feeling on the 120R Motor. I also go over the status of the 2016 Dyna Low Rider S project. Please hit the like button and subscribe to the channel.
I have a 120r with 10,000 miles and it's still running strong. Live in Cali been to Sturgis twice still running strong.
How’s it holding up? What type of maintenance you have to do?
pyro707 I also have one, running strong. Put S&S lifters and pushrods in. Other then that, change the fluids.
THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR THE HONESTY
I was just about to drop over 8K in buying one and putting it in my ultra classic!
I’m going 110 or 103!
Thank you again
Ride safe 👊🏽
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT MOTOR I had one for a few years in a 2015 fatbob had to mod the front breaks and rear suspension so as to live longer sold it to a good mate so I can still let loose every now and then also changed the throttle body it's a beast that can handle a Vee Rod destroyer I swear my arm's got longer in no time 🕊
Great thanks for taking us along. I think your style of candid honesty is a nice change from some of these others who try to be too over the top cool and end up all sounding the same. Looking forward to Dyna updates. Nice bagger sounds/looks damn nice!
Kris Harris thanks for the kind words. I will def do an episode on the Dyna when I finally get it back.
I've got a '12 FLHX and had the 120R swap done in 2013. Dyno'd at 125 RWHP & 125 RWTQ. Then 3 years ago got a Trask turbo which dyno'd at 165 RWHP & 165 RWTQ with 8.5 lbs boost on 87 octane gas. It would e easy to tune it for more power but when you start pushing towards 200 RWHP & TQ you need to start thinking about switching to a rear chain drive. I'm not in any pissing contest. I like what I have just fine. I've never really had any issues with the 120R in the 7 years I've had it. FYI I've got a Baker +1.5 oil pan and two Jagg thermo switch fan powered oil coolers, WardsFanWeks cylinder cooling fans and I run Amsoil 20-50 synthetic oil. All the extra cooling accessories cost me over $1,000 but worth it. I've never really had any overheating issues, even in Sturgis in August.
I actually enjoyed this video, and appreciate your honesty about the 120 R engine.
John Vargo thanks I am glad you enjoyed the review. Hope you enjoy the channel .
Thanks , appreciate your comments.
Yo nice job! I love direct and honest people. Like it or not gotta respect it. Can't wait to see the dyna! Keep the vids coming. I especially like the product unboxing and reviews. Thank you..
QU13TM4N thanks there is more to come
love the set up on your street glide. aquatic av, polk audio speakers. this is what I want. you're comments are hilarious. 👍👍
Just bought a '16 Limited and completed the 1000 mi. service. Appreciate the heads up for Harley low-end maintenance every 10k miles. Added new exhaust, V&H Air Filter, FP3 fuel/air mixer... Planned to add 585 cams and S&S Tappets, cam plate kit w/oil pump and push rods. Now, I don't know that it's worth the trouble because of the lower quality crank! Just turning out to become a money pit. Your info is valuable in making my decision if I quit while I'm ahead.
Edward Bruce no problem it's just one of those things you will deal with when you crank out mote power. Enjoy your bike please stop back and check out the rest of my videos. Merry Christmas
Great video and I really appreciate all the honesty about the motor.
PAUZED appreciate the comments , hope you enjoy the channel.
When I have my 2015 Road Glide paid off, in about 12 months, I will be buying a Limited for my daily rider. I'm keeping the Road Glide though, as I have plans for it. Currently, it has a Stage IV 103 CI with D&D Exhaust. It puts out 115/115, so it is no slouch. But it will be made into my weekend bar hopper/cruiser. I'm not sure if I'm going with the 120R crate motor or the 143 S&S. I have a need for speed. Thanks for the videos.
Hoss! I bought my RK from Bmore Harley about 2months before you posted this!!! Great people up there. take care, ride safe Bub.
Jay Freeman congratulations enjoy it !
Cool bikes thx for sharing. Wish I had seen this before you started; having gone through the same I would have had the same comment re mods and leaving bikes stock.
Thanks Brother, was considering a 120RX. Sounds like too much heat. Hey, Trump 2024. 🤙
just going to go with a wood 222 cam in my stage 1 2009 96ci electra glide love the vid
I have a 2011 107" Fuelmoto 121Hp 137 Tq, compresion relase heads 777 Night Prowler cams, same pipes just in black, same bars, hog pod, speakers, and amp, 21" PM Luxe front wheel. Road in to Sturgis 2011 and 2012 from Morehaed City, NC in (2) days.... Love the bike.
Shane DeBord very impressive numbers, I have seen that fuel motor will get those kind of numbers if they do the installation and tuning is that correct? Sounds like you have a very nice bike .
Even though it is 2019 the advice is excellent. Was thinking of 120ci but concerned about heat. Got me thinking of smaller ci for reliability.
2002drumsonly I think the best overall engine is the 107 kit from t man performance, you get good performance yet it’s reliable
I just wanted to commend you or who ever worked on your ride. THE biggest take away I have for your ride, is that when idling, it sounds very smooth with VERY little loping. Every other 120R motor job I've heard in a video fire up, has this horrible lope that almost sounds as if the vehicle is going to stall at any moment. It shows that the tuning of the rpms on idle is well done. Hats off to ya
Raging Tyga thank you very much, that bike was a great bike. I had to sell it unfortunately. Thanks for watching my channel
Did you decat the motor? The cat gives off a lot of heat. I had a 103” motor stage 3 on a FXD a couple years ago, it was BADASS! I put it on a Dyno and it got over 120 hp and over 100 lbs of torque. I forgot the exacts.
That bassani 2 into 1 is an awesome pipe for the twin cam motor. I have the stainless one for my built 103
Geat taste in bikes I have a 2010 glide 120r and a 2016 lowrider s. The 120r has over 25k of hard miles on her with no problems she'll get ya home.
Ken Foley rock on .... that's awesome. What kind of oil temps do you see in the summer time with 120r?
KnuckleUpFightClub I don't have a oil temp gauge. It will get hot in the summer traffic. I ride in the country most of the time trying to stay away from the cages.
any thing u buy and want to enhance becomes a money pit, doent matter if its a Honda or a flat head, its gona need work, love your passion for your scooter bro, cool ass engine
Nice ride. Enjoyed the video.
hey on your positive battery lead I use Loctite on mind works awesome
Glenn Lewis I will give that a try thanks
Just so you know, Harley makes an oil cooler that will fit your bike. Makes the engine run a lot cooler!!
Very nice bike! Love it.
Sweet bike and the sound is bad ass
Great video. I have a Road Glide Special, getting the 103 stage 3 installed and Vance and Hines power duel headers with 450 slip ones. Live near Ocean City, Maryland, April bike week coming up, just some info if you ride down.
Torence Smith Thanks for the heads up. Didn't realize OC had two bike weeks. Let's hope April is a dry month
Good to know, I have thought about the 120 R .my old 97,has 120 ultima, I Love the torque. 88inches in my Twin cam.,some time's need a little more.
I can feel you on the 120R motor, have one on my Road Glide, challenging motor but wow does it make power. There are payoffs to have this type of power... great job
Stop crying, why do you think they call it an "R" motor it's for RACING not the best choice for the street. I went with the 120St for my 2015 St Glide, milder cam, installed roller rockers, TP lifters, Baker compensator and attitude adjuster, Baker DD7, 34 tooth tranny output sprocket, Full Sac exhaust, CVO 2" re-cored mufflers, Command 5 with fuel module, wide ban O2 sensors, Screaming Eagle heavy breather, Barnett 10 disc kevlar clutch with SE centrifugal assist, 5.5 qt SE oil pan, Jagg's fan assist oil cooler, Sprial front and rear fan cylinders coolers, Big Boar 600cca battery and Terry 1.8 kw starter. 121 hp with 129 ft tq. 52 miles to the gallon, purr's at idle, docile till you crack the throttle open then you better be hanging on tight when you do.
Ok looks like that was 4 Year's ago!! Still have it any changes
Any engine you buy from Harley is Machine built on a production line - if you get a 'Stage kit' whatever size or stage, it is a stock engine with a "stock kit" fitted by a fitter and the work is warrantied but not built as well as when you go to a good renowned and experienced builder who builds it by hand to your specs - not some 'one-size-fits-all' type thing ! BUT you have to remember it is not a stock bike, so you cannot treat or ride it like a stock (read underpowered) bike and expect it to last as long. I am not trashing Harleys or their stage kits - I have two Harleys both with modified engines - but when you make an engine produce twice as much power it won't be as 'reliable'. They are after all made out of the same metals and those metals are only so durable !
Leaving stock is best, never have any problems!
life is to boring too have stock vehicles
Good job Dude!!! 😎
smiley42 thanks hope you like the topics
a have a 2013 street glide with the 103 was thinking about 120r but now I ill keep it stock thanks for info
Awesome stuff! Keep 'em comin'!
RSMF
Maikeli7: Motovlogger Since 2007 appreciate the feed back thanks
Sounds really nice, is there not any after market cooling aids to help you with the motor, never realised that you had to replace loads of parts after 10,000 miles. When I lived in Oz I had a Laverda Jota (1000cc), they raved at how it was hand made, well the guy who built mine must of been on the vino all bloody week. You said you had 3 bikes what's the other one 👍😎
Geoff Evans if you view its alive video you will see my bobber ... check it out .
my jims 120 very powerful and reliable smoke rice rockets on it
I know this is from a while back but if you still have the bike and haven’t found any fix for the heating issue I have a 110ci street glide with a Zipper’s 587 cam and it always overheated even in cool weather, until I installed Love Jugs. Now I can’t get it hot enough to shut off the rear cylinder even on a hot day! And before it shut off the rear cylinder as soon as I stopped.
there is no warranty on the 120r because it is a not street legal - it's a racing motor. I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but that engine lasts only a few thousand miles before it needs an overhaul. HD should have told you that. You'd been far better off getting a 120st - a little less umph, but it's street legal and comes with a warranty.
lol ok. Got 50k on my 120r and it still runs great.
So I have a 2009 Ultra and I’m keeping it as long as I can balance a bike. Only had one recall on it unlike the 13s and newer. So with that said, I have 113,000 on a stock engine and I’m researching the best upgrade without having to change out the tranny. I’m looking at the 120r and 110. Somewhere in a UA-cam video I thought I heard the lower end had to be changed annually with a 120r?
Harley-Davidson man here always funny how so many horror people want big big motor so many good bugs out there
yes could you please comment on your stereo upgrades sounds very interesting
Glenn Lewis there head unit is made by Aquatic , the front speakers are Polk & rear by JBL 6x9 .
I've always like hotrods but but what you're saying and what I've heard about the 120r I'm better off leaving the bike stock but man the breakout looks like a drag bike and to have the power to match it would be something , I'm gonna have to stick with stock . The maintenance and Bill's on that engine would suck .
Fine bike and love them ladies
Hey that bikes fuckin bad ass brother!.... Wow
I'm thinking of buying a 2011Fatboy with a 120r motor with 50000 miles Can someone advise me on issues/problemthe 120r motor has
Thanks
Have you looked into oil coolers?
great info bro.
wouldn't running it a little richer get it to run cooler?
Christopher Snyder that’s what I had to do.
Camera angles fine man...
Good video,,, what tuner is best for 120 R,, tts or vance and hines fp3?
I know this video was along time ago, but the tribodyn will keep your motor running and from overheating...
Camera angle was perfect !! Audio was pretty bad tho buddy could hardly understand what ya said sometimes ,,its to muffled...
Sheesh this video has me extremely nervous I just bought a bike with a 120r on it its brand new supposed to be tuned well I got it from a harley davidson service manager but man I'm worried now
How much quicker is the 120R over the 117 SE, just if fitted early, within I think 2 months of new it's covered by H.D. warranty.
Nice blog
easyglide the 117 and the 120R it's an apple and orange comparison on torque and horse power. Your are correct the 117 comes with a warranty. Which is a big advantage .
easyglide I have not had a chance to ride a bike yet with the 117 motor. The fuel system and the cams are smaller or the 117 than the 120R .
KnuckleUpFightClub
I upgraded my 2014 CVO Ultra to the 117 & I'm happy as hell with it.
120hp & 124 on the torque. Got my extended warranty to cover it too!
Can you clear this for me, Did you upgrade your 2014 CVO Ultra motor with the 117 cubic inch or did you upgrade to the new 2017 model with 117 cubic inch Milwaukee 8
Sorry I get it now, I was considering doing the same on my 2015 CVO SG, went to the dealer and by the time I had paid for the Kit and fitting and the bike was ready for a rear tire and oil change the difference to upgrade to the 2017 CVO was only a little more, so did the deal. 117 cube I am sure is more powerful than the 114 of the Milwaukee 8 . I read good things on the 117 upgrade, pleased you're happy.
would buy a S&S crate motor anyday over 120R.. sucks you have problems with it
Thanks
sounds good
Kole Mussel thanks
Where can you get a 120r motor. And does harley sale them.
You're so close to the Chesapeake Harley, why do you go to the Baltimore dealer?
Deon Holloman I like the Baltimore dealer much better.
where did you get auxiliary light housing?
Mine will max out at 145 miles per hour with 106 horsepower with a 600 supermax T-man cam
my dyna with jims 120 motor nuf said
On the back
Put love jugs on your 120R but keep that engine cool
Jax teller wore air force ones!
man, what a money pit! your a stubborn dude!
My SG. has been 127mph.. and let me tell you.. there is NOTHING fun about that. These bikes are just nor for that.
Jody had my 12fltrx at 110 last night, didn't even notice lol
If God wanted man to settle for Harley he wouldn't have created Victory and Indian. Just kidding, ride what makes you happy but if you want to see a fast, reliable, bagger have a look at Tony Carbajal and his turbo charged Magnum. He tears it up. Your bike has a nice note to it. Liked.
servicarrider I will have to check it out. Thanks for watching my video and checking out my channel.
servicarrider
Oh no ...victory..... lol ....VICTORY IS GONE BABY!!!!!!!!
And Indian?..... got nothing on the Milwaukee8 engine..... Harley hit it out of the ball park with the new engine buddy....that's why victory is gone out of business...... lol.
Too bad about all of the failures with the Milwaukee 8 but not that anyone would ever expect anything other than low to no quality from the MoCo. They never have seen their customers as anything but suckers and beta testers. After all, they are best known for marketing the same garbage decade after decade with the same known engineering flaws. If you ever get yourself one, hang on. You don't want it to shake you off going down the road or kill you as it daftly tries to wobble itself around a sweeping curve. Can't have that. Good luck to you, Evel. Say hi to Elvis if you run into him on your Hog.
A hater if there ever was one. mi have had 2 Harley-Davidson's and they are excellent machines.
+PeterDad60 Wrong guess there, slow mo. I have had Harley's since the mid seventies. Have one in the garage right now. Always have. Had several. I prefer Victory / Indian technology. Who wouldn't? I prefer Vincent motorcycles. Again, who wouldn't. Don't get me wrong...Harley's have their place. Antique, especially pre-teen, Harley's are a popular choice for investors / collectors / aficionados / tinkerers. Demanding riders. Not so much, but you keep the dream alive there, Marlboro Man. My neighbor and frequent riding partner has a garage full of bikes from BMW on down. We ride several times a week and the bike he prefers is a 2017 Honda PCX150 and we can have a great time riding to the corner store. It really is a great scooter. We just prefer to spend our money on gas and tires as opposed to parts, or worse, parts and labor. I am no market expert, by any means, but I think that there is a logical reason that they make more than one marquee. You just can't even begin to imagine how over the moon that I am to know that you are happy with your MoCo purchase.
harley fuckn rules.
Fuel it on the e85 that should keep it cool
Went with a S&S wouldn't have that problem, Harley motors are boat anchors
Wanna sell it
Brother you have to put tribodyn 20/50 in there, heat will be cut significantly.... Tatromachine.com
get a fan assisted oil cooler.
103 my ass
Harley build the engines by computer controlled robots and there is the problem. If you want to build a big engine, get a human being to build it otherwise you are just throwing money away. If you want to dress a bike up, well it's your bike and money but I prefer to have a stock looking bike with a well built engine. My engine is built to last - crankshaft (trued and welded) wise as well as bearings, solid sprocket and manual chain adjuster along with gear driven cams. Twincams and M8's are cheap built rubbish from the factory and the dealers are incompetent. My Streetbob has a 113 inch motor making over 122ftlbs and 127bhp at the wheel, with reworked CVO cylinders and heads that are second hand off ebay.
sounds like you have to much money
Blades 22 maybe had... bike was sold . Going through a divorce ...
Yeah it might not be so street friendly but when you wanna hand the business to somebody it’s a done deal 🛵💨
