    Thanks for dropping by my hometown in Bidor! There's more foodies in the neighbouring shops but Pun Chun is definitely the most popular to visitors and tourists.

    • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  6 років тому

      I wish we'd had longer in Bidor C.Y Wong! Looking forward to returning and exploring more! What are your favourite spots to eat? Thanks for watching and commenting mate. Cheers, Sheena 😄

    • @cywongs
      @cywongs 6 років тому +2

      Pun Chun due to it's legacy and long standing status as a touristy spot for visitors are less frequented by town folks. Town folks usually go to other spots where the food is slightly cheaper. I am a wantan mee fan, so I will usually go to Mee Wah, the food court that is located opposite of KFC for my dose of wantan mee. You can find awesome kon loh mee there as well - both are equally popular. Our town is famous for it's roast pork (siew yok) too, you can find them fresh in the market, and they usually sold out fast, so you need to grab them early in the morning like 7am. There's a curry mee and a claypot rice joint , just across the road where the government clinic is. Just right beside Pun Chun you can find stuffed curry chicken in the bread, that's pretty famous. Near Caltex, there's a 'tung fan' (glass noodles) in a restaurant called Sin Thean Thean. Southward Bidor in Taman Bidor Jaya on the outskirts, there's a restaurant that serves wild boar curry with wantan mee. Don't forget the guava stalls where you can find seedless guavas (jambu batu) and jambu air (Java apple). Dip them in plum powder, yums..they are out of this world!

    • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  6 років тому

      Wow amazing C.Y Wong! Great recommendations- thank you! Love the sound of it all especially the claypot rice and the wild boar curry. Oh and the siew yok! TASTY! We'll have to get back to Bidor very soon to eat more! Thanks for taking the time to write mate. Cheers, Sheena

    Perak famous for its pekasam, i.e fermented fish..best fermented fishes are river fishes like loma (Perak's famous riverine fish), lampam sungai (river carp)..but stillwater fishes like tilapia is good as well..fish fermented in pounded rice..please go to Raban Lake, a beautiful lake in north Perak, you can find some restaurants there (Malay) including ikan bakar, fish freshly caught from Raban Lake..nearest town to Lake is Lenggong and to get to Lenggong you need to take Kuala Kangsar Exit from the highway..scenic place, you can take boat cruise on the lake..if you lucky the boatman will take you to visit his relatives yonder in the remote part of the lake coastline, you can visit these kampung people home, they'll invite you to stay for dinner or lunch..I was there (Kampung Beng) and invited for coffee, the old lady asked us to stay for dinner but we had to turn down for lack of time..

    • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  6 років тому +1

      Wow sounds like such a memorable experience Esperalzi Esperal! We love pekasam SO much but you know what? I don't think we ate it when in Perak. Crazy?! We had lots in Perlis.... Hmm we must return and take your advice and head to Raban Lake. We've heard it's a beautiful spot! Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope you enjoyed this one! Cheers, Sheena 😄

    OMG u manage to come to Jeram. My grandma house is there. Yes its really rare, lui cha/thunder tea rice. Possibly you ould try the yong taufu/stuffed fried tofu if any. Its really different, pork n salted fish stuffing. You should really try cham (kopi+tea) when u are in ipoh, Jeram, Kampar. Kampar market food stalls hv very kaw n thick coffee/tea during breakfast.

    • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  6 років тому

      Jeram was amazing Cheng Yi Choong! All the locals were so friendly! The lui cha was so tasty- I'm so glad we got to eat it finally! Can't wait to return to that area of Perak and to explore more. Yong taufu and cham sound a treat! Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope you enjoyed this one! Cheers, Sheena 😄

    *_Lui Cha_* - I know the key to this dish is the soup but I eat something similar a few times a month - brown rice topped with black beans, corn, steamed spinach, peanuts, carrots, pickled peppers, anchovy paste, etc. Healthy rice bowls called *_Buddha Bowls_* are pretty much all or mostly veg and are _(supposedly)_ super popular in the states. I don't know many people who regularly eat them but a million people sure love to Instagram their latest beautiful creation. 😂 I love all rice bowls, healthy or not. Another fun day, guys. 👍

    • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  6 років тому +1

      That sounds great Tosh! I’m a fan of rice bowls too although I gotta say I’m probably more of a fan of the ones that err towards the unhealthier side 😂 I loved trying this one though as we’ve heard so much about it- the soup was fantastic- such a distinctive flavour. So glad you enjoyed this one mate, thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Sheena

    For me Rendang Tok is the most delicious and the most difficult to cook. It can take 8 hours to make it dry ( my mom version ). Thats why i only can have it during Hari Raya celebration... because my mom is "Too Lazy" with the process of making that dish... No wonder it was knowing The most expensive Rendang in the human kind LOL . I am very sure if you go to kampung side during Hari Raya time you can get a very good version of Rendang Tok cooking by Makcik Or Grandma (Opah) . and... congrats Sheena and Thomas for 20K Subscribe..... Road to million... :)

    • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  6 років тому +1

      Woo hoo road to a million! Bring it on! Thanks for your support Marwan Masir! I can totally understand why rendang tok is usually only served during Hari Raya- it seems like such a time consuming dish to cook. It's so delicious- I hope we're in Malaysia around that time! If I'm not mistaken, the rendang tok was cooked until the gravy dried out so that the dish can be kept long. Because in the old days like hundred years ago there was no fridge to keep the dish and the native are usually sailor. So they cooked it until the moisture in the food dried out. The rendang tok in that form can last until few months.

    Your Kuala Kangsar video made me homesick and now this made me miss my uni life in Kampar A LOTS !!!
    There's a stall in the pasar selling super tall Dragonfruits or Coffee or Milo Smoothies , nothing special but it's fun to drink lol. And u guys left Kampar without trying the Kampar's signature Claypot Chicken Rice , Curry Chicken Bun , and the Chicken Biscuits ( OMG I just realized it's all Chicken related lol ) Take a tour around the Kampar New Town and the university area, they have some sick lake and sunset views there. Then heads to Tualang to get some really nice freshwater prawns and seafoods ! I need to go back there !

    • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  6 років тому

      Hi Reaz zL! Kampar was such a cool town- we really enjoyed visiting! We tried to visit the stall with the smoothies but they were shut which is why we had to film the sticky rice instead! We didn't get a chance to try the curry chicken bun or biscuits but we did eat the Claypot Chicken Rice- we just had it on a non-filming day though- it was taaaaasty! Perak is such an awesome state to road-trip around- we can't wait to do it again soon! Thanks for all those tips and suggestions! Fully making a note for next time woo hoo. Nice video as always 👍.
    The 1st mix vege dish is a bit like Nasi Ambeng (originated from Indonesia mostly found in Selangor). The green soup looks like pandan water. Does it used any pandan in it ?
    The tender duck meat make me want to eat duck again. Haven’t had any for years. Duck meat usually are quite tough which is why I don’t usually eat it.
    Thomas: What’s that dog name type from 100 Dalmatians. Sheena: Dalmatian ! . (Funny 😅).
    Cheers 😃.

    Btw i would love try that chee cheong fun, it looks halal. I always thought the goodness of chee cheong fun lies in the sauce so it kinda pique my interest to see how plain chee cheong fun would taste like.

    I’m so intrigued by durian. I want to try it so badly, but, I’m so aroma challenged I’m afraid.

      If you get a chance to 5cats 2kids you totally should! It’s so unique 😍 it doesn’t smell at all “bad” to us- it’s definitely distinctive but it’s quite fragrant 😄 thanks for watching and commenting on this one- hope you enjoyed it! Cheers, Sheena

      Chasing a Plate - Food and Travel Channel It's called nyekak and isu one of them have a sweet taste but not as smelly as durian and the other one is more orange in colour but have this earthy smell and the texture is harder and less sweet,i can't really differentiate the two because they are almosy identical asside from one of them has a more sharper thorn than the other and also,i think Isu is only native to Sarawak,im not sure but you can do some research
      Edit:I havent seen any foreigners making any video eating them,so you guys might be one of the first

      We'll definitely have to look into them! I remember someone telling us about the orange fruit which is only found in Borneo actually! We'll have to hunt them down when we're next back there! Thanks for that Brusselssprout Wuh! Cheers, Sheena

    for Noi Cha , the correct way of eating is dipping the rice and stuff inside the soup and not eat it seperately.

      Hi joon kit Choy! I think it's a dish that people like to eat in various ways, that's what the owner of the stall told us anyway. It was great getting to taste the soup on it's own to really taste the flavour and then dipping the rice inside the soup later gave it a whole other texture. Such a delicious dish! Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers, Sheena

    Is it easy to drive around in Malaysia? Do you need special license?

    • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  4 роки тому

      We didn’t have any problems! As Kiwis we were able to use our NZ licenses but you’ll have to check your own national driver’s licence against Malaysian law 😄 otherwise an international drivers licence would be fine. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Sheena
