I think that the best reaction I've watch to this movie. Seeing how much you enjoy it, how much you recognize (almost) all big names , the joy in your face when you se them and watching you enjoy musical scenes. This was priceless :)
Amazing sound track! Cab Calloway, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Johnny Lee Hooker, Peter Gunn theme... and Princess Lea! That was an actual shopping mall they were about to tear down as well!
This reaction was fantastic! Instant subscription! You're the only reactor I've seen recognize Chaka Khan in that church scene! You're the only reactor who instantly recognized Aretha Franklin the second she was on the screen. Your laughter made me laugh at this movie all over again! Thanks!!!!!!! It's a really special movie! When it came out, I just took it for granted! It was just a fun comedy to me! Now I see it as so precious! I mean, even just for John Belushi, who died two years later. And of course, all of these legendary genius musicians. We sure won't see the likes of them again, that's for sure. Jeez: Ray, Aretha and James all in the same movie........plus John Lee Hooker, Cab Calloway,. etc etc.....
The Blues Brothers Band was actually a legitimate band formed by Ackroyd and Belushi in 1978. They toured, put out records, and had a hit single with 'Soul Man'. The band itself consisted of some legendary musicians, including: Donald 'Duck' Dunn and Steve 'The Colonel' Cropper, who were part of Booker T and the MG's, as well as the Stax Records house band, playing with the likes of Otis Redding and Sam and Dave; and Matt 'Guitar' Murphy, a legendary Blues Guitarist who worked with the likes of Howlin' Wolf, Chuck Berry, Sonny Boy Williamson, Etta James, Buddy Guy and Otis Rush.
Cab Calloway was a famous band leader and performer from the 30s to the 60s. If you enjoyed his performance in the movie, check out some videos of him back in the day. His performance with the Nicolas Brothers in the movie Stormy Weather is pretty epic.
So refreshing to see someone enjoy this movie AND recognize Half the guest stars. So many reactors try to be MST3000 but you just enjoyed the film! Thank you.
Loved your reaction!, especially joyfully laughing at the white boys dancing in the black congregation church, made my white belly hurt, grateful to have shared that ridiculous (w)holy healing moment. Best Blues Brothers reaction ever!
John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd were of the original cast of the famous Saturday Night Live. unbelievable but the guy handing out the belongings at the prison is Frank Oz, of the Muppets...he did may voices/puppets most famously Miss Piggie!!! Kathleen Freeman playing the nun...she had along career as a character actor and was often hysterical, you'll see her in dozens of old movies and TV shows. Cab Calloway was 72, playing the old gent at the orphanage...he was major singing star n the 1930's and 40's with his own band, played the Cotton Club, had dozens of hit records. He revived his career for a short time because of this movie. One of his biggest hits was Minnie the Moocher...i love the guy, he was a bad ass entertainer, skat singing and all. the old guy still had it, and millions of young people at the times thought he was a cool dude.
A classic! Loved that you had so much fun watching this. Jake and Elwood, John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd are original cast members of Saturday Night Live from the seventies… very nostalgic for a lot of us. ❤
The woman scorned was played by the late "Carrie Fisher" aka Princess Leia in Star Wars. The prison scene was filmed at the now closed Illinois State Penitentiary, in Joliet, Illinois. The mall scene was filmed at the long gone "Dixie Square Mall," in Harvey Illinois. The Hotel is an SRO, or Single Room Occupancy hotel. Usually rented by men who couldn't afford a standard apartment. Chicago used to have quite a few SRO's. Most have been closed now.
When I was 12, I saw this in the theater in Calumet City, IL--the town just south of Chicago that the Blues Brothers are supposed to be from. I couldn't hold still in my seat either.
That's right Shaka Kahn, you really know your stuff girl. The groovy song you're hearing as they drive to Elwood's apartment is Peter Gunn, the TV theme from the late 1950's detective show. the lady in the car with the bazooka and stuff is Carrie Fisher aka "Princess Leia" from Star Wars. The Nazi guy is comedian Henry Gibson...he was well known in the late 1960's, early 1970's for being a member of the comedy variety show Rowan and Martin's Laugh In, and supporting parts in movies and TV shows after ward. He was really a very sweet guy, now gone. John Lee Hooker playing outside, well known blues artist. Matt "Guitar" Murphy, famous real life guitar player, plays Aretha's man. "Rawhide" old TV Western, theme song .Clint Eastwood starred in that!
Classic! I snuck into the theater with a couple of buddies to see this movie back when it was new and I was twelve or thirteen, old enough to ride a bicycle to the theater but not yet old enough to feel embarrassed about sneaking inside. The R rating given the film barred us from buying tickets for it, so we bought tickets to something else that was showing and then snuck in to see this. That was also in the early days of the "movieplex", a movie theater built with smaller theaters inside so that each could play a different movie. I don't remember which movie we bought tickets for, but I do remember that The Blues Brothers ran as a double feature with Cheech & Chong's Next Movie. So we sat and watched that one too and then watched The Blues Brothers again. It was a hot summer afternoon and hanging out at the movies was one of the ways we would beat the heat.
"I shouldn't be laughing at this" (the church scene). Oh yes you should. Doesn't the Lord say "make a joyous sound?" :) And he appreciates amazing dancing. If my church was like that I'd be there twice a week.
They spent millions to rebuild the mall just to destroy it. The movie made big news for the ever-growing budget they had. Chicago was so busy with a few films going on at that time. It was fun and plenty to do. The killer woman is from Star Wars. By the way I love your character and the way you laugh sweetheart!
15:00 you're watching the extended cut with this parking scene. In the script, Dan Aykroyd supposed the car had supernatural qualities because being parked so long next to that electrical transformer...like a Frankenstein monster. That's why the car's silly jumps, stunts, and willpower to exist until they abandon it to run up the tower.
Famous movie producer/director Stephen Spielberg plays the tax office clerk a the end. that cop car pile up was stunt driver's masterpiece if i eve r saw one...makes Smokey and the Bandit look like a tea party. during the jailhouse rock, the prisoner who gets up on the table to dance is famous musician Joe Walsh formerly of the band The Eagles.
Didn't get the notification till now. My apologies for the late response as i'm one of many who probably suggested this film. Ok now to watch this with you. Hope it lived up to the hype lol
Lost count of how many times I laughed and grooved along with you. Such a pleasure. Not gonna lie I've watched other reactions to this classic but no one appreciated the storyline and music like I was sure you would. Be re-watching no doubt 😊
"Trooper LaFong" (driving the police car that flipped over in the Mall) was John Landis, the Director (and co-writer) of the movie. The Mall BTW was the Dixie Square Mall, in Harvey, Ill . - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dixie_Square_Mall
Major cities in the 70's were nasty with smog in the USA. L.A. was the worst. Things like catalytic converters and strict rules from the EPA and other state related laws help clean it up. This is one of my favorite movies, watching it in a theater with an audience responding was a great experience. I watch it at least every year. The music makes it so rewatchable. Something that seemed mostly lost in film production. Thanks to movies like Guardians of the Galaxy it seems to be coming back. But, record companies want so much up front plus royalties that it's a tough call.
That terrific music played at the transient hotel and on their way to put the band back together is from an old tv show, "Peter Gunn", composed by Henry Mancini and produced by Edward Blake. They often worked together in movies, and Mancini gave us another really famous tune: ua-cam.com/video/R4amWTwO1GM/v-deo.html And here's the Peter Gunn theme: ua-cam.com/video/Emg_6ANjWzo/v-deo.html Pretty much every note of music in this movie is a classic or part of one! For a bit later on, the song they play at Bob's Country and Western place is from an old tv show, "Rawhide", which featured a very young Clint Eastwood. This was a show my father watched and which he used to help him learn English. Unfortunately, he never got the lyrics right, and until this movie, I never knew the words were not "ora heema, heema, heema, ora heema, Raw Hide! Hey lala, Hey lala, Hey lala. Ida Em, Raw Hide!" ua-cam.com/video/PFGyhSifqzA/v-deo.html
The mall was being renovated so they could do whatever they wanted. The Chicago police were updating their cars so the movie bought the old ones cheap.
Hi Sheray, Might I suggest reacting to Game of Thrones? It will get you a lot of views and maybe more subscribers. I think it has like 8 seasons and 70something episodes. It's a great show but he prepared to be shocked watching some episodes 😊
The kid who ried to steal the guitar at Ray's was De'voreaux White. He later later played "Argyle" in the movie "DIE HARD". The prisoner who started the riot at the end of the movie was Joe Walsh of The James Gang & The Eagles (and a hell of a solo career). The Mall was the Dixie Square Mall in Harvey, Illinois -- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dixie_Square_Mall

I was about to write this same comment!

The kid trying to steal a guitar from Ray's music exchange is the limo driver in the Die Hard movie...
This is the first piece of trivia I've heard of this movie I didn't know in years

So many stars in this the movie,
you should definitely do more reactions to movies, I love the way how you react to the Blues Brothers.
The man singing Minnie the Moocher is the famous Cab Calloway.
My dad was in a blues band so he showed me these movies asap, it shaped my music taste and comedy so much
Honey, This movie is riddled with stars.
the guy handing over the tax receipt to the blues brothers at the end when they finally get arrested is director Steven Spielberg.
So refreshing to see someone enjoy this movie AND recognize Half the guest stars. So many reactors try to be MST3000 but you just enjoyed the film! Thank you.

One of the best movie soundtracks ever created.

If you liked it this much, please do a reaction to the Making Of this movie!! The IMDB trivia is also amazing!

Bitter sweet as so many of the great people in this film have passed. They left us so much joy and humor though.

Cab Calloway had a hit in every decade from the 1930's to the 1980's
Have never seen someone laugh so much at this movie before :) Can't wait til you watch Airplane if you haven't yet :)

That was John Candy
The woman trying to kill John Belushi throughout the movie is none other than Carrie Fisher.
People dont recognize or forget about Chaka Kahn was also in the church choir

Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
Fun fact-The guy at the tax office is a young Steven Spielberg!

If you like rock movies, I recommend "A hard day's night" with the Beatles.
This movie was Great on the big screen !!!

A great musical movie. I don't know if *any* movie could be quite as good that way, but another good one is O Brother Where Art Thou.
A great book about the making of this movie just came out a few months ago.
Amazing reaction! Lots of love from Scotland 💛
Don't know, why Elwood went to prison, but a wild guess here: traffic violation. A lot. 😂
この映画メッチャ好き!!メチャクチャ面白かった!!
Nice reaction.
The mall was being renovated so they could do whatever they wanted. The Chicago police were updating their cars so the movie bought the old ones cheap.
The stalker girl was Carrie Fisher
