Warriors' tales of bravado and why they fight |

- For decades the banditry crisis in Baringo County has given different government administrations a headache on how to resolve it. Dozens of security personnel sent to quell violence in the troubled region have lost their lives in a quest to bring law and order. 24 people including women and children have so far been killed in the latest violent battles that started on November 2016, with over 4,300 people displaced.
The persistent clashes over grazing land are said to have evolved from a fight for resources to an extension of boundaries by one community. In an exclusive interview with warriors from the warring communities, NTVs Investigative Editor Dennis Okari visited the troubled territory and spoke to warriors from the Pokot, Ilchamus and Tugen communities on banditry and what really is fuelling the war. Here is Pokot Territory.

"Tuwapige kiasi"😅bunduki inapiga kiasi ama ni kumaliza
Ati "tungeachiwa hawa tupige mpaka waridhike," 😅😅😅
My country kenya 🙌🇰🇪
Very educative documentary. I agree education will open up the mind to venture outside the tribal territories like other groups have done.
That pokot warrior jho ..ati wawapige kiasi kiasi hadi waridhike....wah apa tu labda Mungu ashuke
Candy Baib,it's only God sweetie
This was a very excellent investigative move Dennis Okari.
Your key points should be handed over to our President for action.
Wise men are known by their words and looks. Big up Samuel Akak.
I take my hat off to Mr.Okari for such informative documentary. The government deploying security agencies to such risk areas to restore peace isn't a solution.
Tuwachape kiasi, kiasi tu hadi waridhike!
Bro Dennis be blessed for the work, u a really playing right role in ur proffesion to bring peace in the area of my people
Great work. Ompartial reporting. Great information. Grateful to you NTV and your brave journilts.
Napenda advice ya Samuel Akak....Enrollment ifanyike kwa shule.
that last warrior from pokot has talked something good ni ujinga mingi
Excellent report. Such, a beautiful peaceful-looking area. Resources and everything. Nkt.
Yes, force these people into school. Asap!
Holy shit😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝❤️
Ati tungewapiga kiasi mpaka wakuwe marafiki wetu
Pokot ni shida
The pokot guy knows something we don’t...I ain’t mad at him , but he is playing by different rules
This documentary should be published again.....NTV please
Definitely..
The last man is the MOST LEARNED PERSON in the HISTORY OF KENYA, especially in this SIDE of the WAR, HE NEED TO BE ENCOURAGED TO SPEAK TO HIS PEOPLE
24:16 pure wisdom. Kudos Samuel Akak
Great work Denis and NTV, Kudos
Thanks Dennis for the brilliant and informative feature. What's coming out is crazy ignorance and long marginalized mindset. To end the war, its going to take a deliberate effort from all parties including the Government.
These areas must be modernized with schools, good roads and Industries. Deliberate effort to kill illiteracy and give the locals descent living needs to be initiated. I come from Turkana and it just saddens me to see same people killing each other for no apparent sensible reason. Why would my fellow Kenyan be my enemy? Honestly why? What happened to humanity and patriotism? Kenya is almost 57 years independent and yet Kenyans in these areas still exist in fear.
An urgent task force to establish the route cause of the all the thing must be established ASAP. Death penalty to anybody involved in this kind of issues must be activated. I just don't understand seeing Kenyans in this century feeding on a snake with thousands of cows and goats around them! I think it's a curse....
Poverty is a mindset. They value their livestock so much but when drought comes they all perish .
Education, Religion, Law and Other economical activities is the best approach.
What i know is that gava hawajawahi support wapokot lakini wanajisimamia
Brilliant reporting!
This is good research and it nothing but the truth.Kindly Government using force will not help.
Very informative script, good job Dennis
Great work Dennis. And again, as you say, the government got it all wrong. You don't fight a mind hellbent on wrecking havoc using the same methods over and over again! A change of mindset is required here.
Ĺĺ
This was the best discovery man. And seeing this definitely there is a long lasting solution if right actions is taken for communities brought together. Not govt forcing thing to happen
"I saw a snake they saw a meal" very good, narrator Dennis
In Uganda they're very people in media who can report lik u. Keep it up brother.
Such documentaries👌👌👌
Soo beautiful! !!!Is this the same baringo where moi family have dynasty?ati wapigwe paka aridhike !
Very nice Denis Okari
very informative, like it!
Good reporting and a great job
Very informative documentary.
i,m resident from this area guys a place call lomut but part of west pokot boundaring east pokot to east what is needed here is only a matter of education and civilisation our people are still primitive and brutal to themselves, using of guns is like person who normal uses a pen to write i mean something normal to anybody, they are not bad people. the best way to eradicate this behavior educating the importance of peace, human dignity and constitution laws example article 26 on matter of civilisation the way to do is that opening up va rious institution colleges, universities and even prison to keep intact to western education last one is irrigation schemes as many as possible along the kerio river
You said well, but in my country they never want education because their religion their politicians and Emirs have us religion of Islam to make them hate education they more you bring development to them they move inside bushes, Most of them now live in west Africa mostly in Nigeria killing the farmers that own the land, they carry guns like walking stick
Exactly thoo it takes time
The Government and specifically the interior Ministry should analyse the facts in this documentary to pave way for developping a lasting solution for Pokot community for them to have a sense of belonging as Kenyans. Give them food, water, fodder for their livestock, hospitals, build schools, build goverment stores for food supplies. The Pokot Commandant is a well informed warrior and he speaks a lot of sense. Kindiki review your strategy as you disarm the Pokot and other neighbouring communities. Pokot acknowledged Kibaki's good governance. wow!
Ruto gave the Marakwets guns!!!huh
God we need you in kenya like never before
Every time I remember my friends and I getting lost inside Kerio Valley, taking a diversion almost leading us to Kapedo, to Barpello and ending up in Chemolingot in the dead of the night, I am thankful to God for helping us out of the bushes. Surely, the worriors must've been tracking us all the way long
I have been through that route barpelo chemolingot
So you were going astray and deeper and deeper into dangerous territory and to make matters worse, it was at night! You people must have been very lucky indeed!
It’s funny that people are saying that Matiangi can fix this mess. They don’t understand that this issue was present when he was CS and he wasn’t able to resolve it
Ati niachie nipige kiasi😂😂
@@timmusumba5846 yes, we were youthful travellers who got lost in the way of adventure, and didn't know how dangerous that place was. We're glad we came out unattacked
thank you for this
Who came back to watch after the deployment of KDF to the north? Please hit a like
Infact I thought this is a newly released INTERVIEW, kumbe ni ya mwaka mzima
Here we are.
One guy has talked pure wisdom....he's said ni ujinga...
This guys can be absorbed into disciplined forces as service men/women
now am enlightened about this conflict. Seems the same people on war has a way of solving their problems.... Samuel akak also puts it clear ni ujinga continuing this way....that was nice ntv
You heard the Pokot only, what about the Turkanas, Marakwets and Samburus ?
Mwaura Njuguna One warrior who said its ujinga is the voice of reason in this remote location. I loved
What of elders from pokot, marakwet and Turgen and other Learners to come out and stop this battle
Whatever this guy is smoking I need it, "wacha tuwapige kiasi Hadi waridhike"
Though this is a very serious issue, I couldn't help chuckling at Nicholas suggestion that they be left to 'pia Marakwet hadi waridhike na wainue mikono yao juu'.
He is saying like a joke
wow! big up dennis.
The Pokot warrior is the real deal!!!
Good advice from Samuel
Samuel I like his wisdom
u a really a worrier to visit the place and come up with the news, ur conclusion is right bro.I'm one of the pokot, I may say that government is truly encouraging the war indirectly by always attacking one side of the people without engaging in conversation with them to really know about the problem between the tribe and look for a favourable solution to this problem which can favour both sides, I can say that the favourable solution is to change their minds through education building more school on both side and if the war happens the government should not attack them because this can't make them to cease from it but to say that government is not fair.
paul nangoria kachol
i am a pokot living in the states its just shocking how my people roll..they should enroll all of them to go fight alshabaab
I think Samuel Akak's solution should be headed. He is a wise man.
I love this Dennis the government got it all wrong. the war won't end by heavy security rather the education systems to be set that will change the minds of these people.
I agree with u Vivian because I'm one of the tribe from the place which is more worst than the one u watch its between us pokot, karamojong of Uganda and turkana on the other side and by now I'm learned but no day I can participate the fight which always happens in the area
vivian thats true but pokots are deaf, dumb and blind ...... kenyan gvnt should find a way of doing away with them... they are a disgrace to the world
waaa hapa ni Kenya? eeee noma sana .
Ruto didn't literally give the Marakwets guns, instead he hired KPRs , the Kenya Police reservists operate within our laws.
Eddie kimutai correct
Yes. Marakwets are constantly being attacked for their resources. KPRs are within the law. And we thank government for seeing our plight. We have been mislabelled constantly as archaic and backward, yet, we only fight back to save our ancestral land.
how do i register to join pokot warriors
Pokot are well trained, they should join kdf wapelekwe huko somali and government should build more schools, introduce an alternative economic activities.
ati wapelekwe huku Somalia? miskini sana wewe tena kweli mjenga, you want to to wipe this poor innocent men? Somalis are lions they will wipe in less then 30 minutes. KDF are just there to eat Ugali and drink Tusker lol they are not engagin any battle. It is the SNA or Somali National Army battling the notorious Al shabaab terrorists. By the I really feel pity for these fellow Black Africans suffering like this what a pity what a shame.
@@abshir2010
Omg dude just delete your channel as soon as possible.
@@nationalist5422 The channel belongs to NTV KENYA sio yangu. Vipi mzee you need glasses or what?
@@foundationalblackamerican1682 Well, Somalis are Africans becuase they are Cushites, while other Africans are Bantus, or Nilotes. Africans are diverse but all trace their origin to Cush son of Ham, though the name is given to Somalis, Oromo, Beja, Saho, Rendille. We are all Cushites in other words the sons of Cush, the grand sons of Ham, the great grand sons of Noah. and if this theory of Ham is just a story then there must be a one source where all Africans trace their origin as their common ancestors.
@@abshir2010 Dude, one pokot man can handle 20 Al Shabaabs. These are the guys who eat snakes, and I bet they may as well feast on dead Al Shabaabs😂😂😂
Very smart man!
11.30....ati who gave out the guns to marakwet? Weuh mambo imechemka
17:25,a warrior in the making, very innocent face,he's among the intelligence rings...Note that
Educating the people is the solution
If only the livestock could talk, they've got a lot in mind...
Nice work there sir, some thoughts. 1. Government needs to take same approach, facilitate honest conversation with all sides separately then together in well organised fora.
2. Build several schools with boarding facilities for all children may be from class 4 with all basic necessities. and those below that level have food and clothes provided.
3. Begin irrigation schemes with that water that is already available to give residents some better way of providing for themselves.
4. Open up those areas by good road networks to improve interaction between communities and also trade.
5. Encourage intermarriage, may be if a pokot marries a marakwet wanapewa kama 20-50K ya kuanza maisha na mtoto was kwanza wanapata Bure in gov hospital😉.
Those are my thoughts premised on what several other commentators have said: that this war is fuelled by primitiveness among the communities. And what we would call marginalization...
My auntie was a teacher in Pokot for the kids the came to school because of free lunch the moment there is no lunch they don't turn up for school.
A very educative documentary
Good job Dennis, maybe if they both see it might be debated
19:58
''Ni vile tu unawezapigwa mpaka uridhike'' SERIOUSLY??
hahahaha soo funny ...
😂😂😂
lmaoo too funny
agree to be beaten and we can be friends hahaha funny
If this Pocket Warrior is still alive, (No offense since surviving this conflict is a day- to-day business) all I can say he got some BIG BALLZ!! Belittling other communities and making sure their numbers and might is felt across Baringo and Marakwet territories!
good report
Wow how interesting
Kalenjin are the most humble people, but dare to threaten...mlango zote na dirisha zitakupotelea
Not all of them hehe
That one is a real Warrior
Great.
@NTV why dont you have English subtitles for some of us African who follow your current affairs but aint learned in Kiswahili?
you're not the target audience
Learn Swahili
oooh that means you missed the juicy part where the pokot worrior requests the government to leave the area and allow every man to fight for their respect and honor
@@plus254ke8 teach me please
@@evakatiwa4067 yes... teach me Kiswahili please
Wisdom, wisdom.
They should elect Samuel Akak as Pokot spokesperson, he seems so bright.
Watu wote wahuko wapate job kama polosi in Nairobi track gangsta they don't miss a shot... Alafu they don't favor... We need this people in Mombasa and Nairobi
I want this document of pokot to be done in 2022
That place would be good for modern agriculture if theirs no war
For me it's the part " Tupigane mpaka turidhike"
I've happened to be in Baringo and West Pokot this month. A Pokot teacher said that it's only education that could end this. If the government could build schools and make it mandatory for every newborn, the warrior generation will slowly fade away.
100% i agree with u bro,,,education changed us, in fact it were not education I would have been the worst warrior, because I'm from the worst place ever
What are the roles of pokot leaders.
The areas seems to be a good for caltivation. Better to generate new borns.
@@mohmedhamzaabdi unfortunately they're the people who buy guns for their community to kick away other communities during elections so that they can win elections, they aren't interested in peace, the central government is the only institution that can save them through education and morden ways of farming, even those people are tired of the violence and want a way to feed their cattles peacefully
Plus also build dams and agriculture education
...tupige wao kiasi waridhike alafu heshima i dumu
The pokot guy has a point
I miss pokot
the snake part realy thrilled me. av never touched snake let alone eating. this boy come dragging one.
The solutions to the banditry problem are within the communities...The use of force won't change anything
That warrior clearly says that there can be no peace if you were not fighting. So they first fight and then start peace process.
Education Is the solution here....illitracy is high
Peaceful negotiation must be embraced inthe mean time
FREE I-PHONES..
Education cannot help.
To us this thing is like a sport.
How can one help the guy at the end of the documentary...The Pokot guy?
The government should use the same methods that they have used in Tana River between the Orma and the POKOMOS it was successful in Tana River elder’s and the religious elders worked hard to bring peace and tranquility in Tana River county
This information is applicable in laikipia
The government should be able to bring different economic activities like irrigation farming to create wealth to replace cattle
I dint know things like this happen in kenya both the tribes are very much behind mungu waokoe
25:27-28, wonderful
Niujinga mtupu. That was a good one
16:38 tungewachiwa hawa tupige, tupige kiasi hadi waridhike 😂😂
In other words what this guy is trying to say is that, they want the Marakwets to show Submission.
🤣🤣 Me I have feared
Watoe saprano.🤣🤣🤣
He wants vawulence 😅😅😅
The pokot warrior in a hat is smart.vita ni ujinga mtupu
......True the conflict won't be won by heavy security presence but by social and economical empowerment of the communities and maybe introducing something like kenya meat commission in the region as it has a lot of cattle's.
The kind of education required here isn't ile ya kawaida/ya kila mtu...these guys are resilient...these are the people who would have given us victory in El Adde...they have domesticated the AK...this is a resource we're wasting!
MrBabujinga ....myopic kind of thinking though. fair attempt
oolivear u want to be told that these are useless folks? ur the one who is myopic..modern human development dynamics is much more complicated than u think...u got western education and ur still third world how better are you than these fellow africans? in war u need bushcraft(these guys have it naturally) they need to be tapped I still insist!! A normal KDF soldier at 25 barely gets over shell shock(the bang of a gun) and we claim they're ready..these guys don't have shell shock...You can't fight, they can fight!! we have a fight in Somalia, we need them!! end of discussion
When the pokot warrior said "tuachiwe tupige hao, tuheshimiane". 😂
Mistake ni guns zinasemwa gava ilitoa. What I do see on my way to Turkana land, is horror
did heard tht guy testify he started using gun at 10yrs then kurutu amepassout Jana ametumwua uko.atakua shosa kwao
