Pedro - I met you in the Naples store a week or two ago asking about your preference between the 688 and 694. You confidently said the 688 and explained the serviceability/longevity of the 680 series over the 690 series. Any chance you could do a video on that? (or at minimum explain it again, lol) It was nice meeting you! I appreciate it.
I had the chance to handle the 688 last week, and I absolutely agree with you on how good the gun feels between the hands. I do prefer it to the feel of a 694. If it shoots as well as it feels, Beretta really has a winner on its hands.
I really enjoy and appreciate all your reviews. I particularly appreciate your knowledge and straight talking. You are always worth listening to and your opinions carry weight. This gun would not be on my radar, but it will be now.
Great video Pedro. Can you change your camera lens in the next video please? The current lens gives a stretched wide angle view which does not give an accurate view of the gun.
Some of the best info so far. The first time we understand the dimensions are significantly different. This seems like an evolution of the 686 and I wonder what it means for that gun.
I've seen multiple videos on the 688, eceryone seems to love it. The Browning 825 came out a few weeks before and no videos. Whats going on? Waiting for a comparison video between the two, you up for it?
Unfortunately i do not specialize on Brownings. I am focused mainly on Italian guns with the exception of Blaser. I do not have the expertise to make an informational video about it.
Hi Pedro, a great video and really appreciate the information your provide. I am currently shopping for a new gun, but the 688 is at the upper end of my price range. I have narrowed my list to the BR110 and the 688, but I cant decide which way to go. My question, would you trade in your BR110 for the 688?
they made the 686 a few ounces heavier in the receiver and added heavy laminate stocks for extra weight and charged an extra 1000 bucks. I think its ripping people off honestly. Everyone is raving about absolutely nothing but they're afraid to admit it and get scorned by their peers. Just put a magnet on the side of your 686 and boom, it feels the same lol. Edit: Feels the same balance wise. obviously over all heavy due to laminate stocks. I know would know what I meant, but you know how the internet is.
Thanks for the video! This new 688 almost looks like the more true evolution of the 682 than the 694. I can see where this would be picked up by a couple different Beretta shooters. The shooter that is a long time 682 shooter that has a pile of chokes, parts, etc. The shooter that has a DT that may be looking for a foul weather or spare. The shooter that wants something not common in the line. And the shooter that may not care for how the 694 feels but wants "more" than their current 686. Just a few thoughts.
When I picked up a 688 it immediately felt just like the later Gold E, which is good if you don't own a 682 but if you do it's just the laminate that's different to me.
It will be very hard to find a completely original 682. If im not mistaken (i could be) the dimensions were 1 1/2 x 2 3/8. As far as the TSK goes. The grips come oversized so we always have to shave the sides down in order not to be to proud from the side. So it will work just fine. Soon you will be able to get black laminate grips to match the forend
@@LetsTalkShotguns thanks for your quick reply :) I have allway´s liked the old 682´s better than the Gold E. That is why I went with a Zoli some 16 years ago, just better handling (for me). The 688 looks like it will compete hard with guns like the Zoli Kronos and simliar models
I weighed my old S682 receiver and it is 2lb 3oz. , about the same as the 688. The width is 1.660 compared to 1.654 for the 688. Hope that helps. I have Optima barrels on my gun, so it's very similar to the feel of the 688.
So my took my S682 receiver and weighed on a postal scale to get a more accurate weight and came up with 2lbs 3.6oz, or just over 1009 grams. That's just over 1/4oz lighter than the 688. I was hoping there was enough difference to justify buying a new gun, but there's not. I have 5 S682 receivers and put Gold E Optima barrels on all of them. That really makes them quite a different gun than with the Mobil choke barrels and I imagine very much like the 688. I shot Krieghoff for almost 50 years and also owned many others including Perazzi and Kolar, and wouldn't trade what I'm shooting now for any of 'em.
You are correct that 11g are not much of a difference if your barrels are not heavier. I do prefer the old 682. Whats is the weight of your barrels and what length?
All of the 68x models are basically the same. It's a time and performance proven design you can't go wrong with. The 69x guns have not quite the same success.
As far as Beretta’s website shows, there isn’t even an American/DTL version. It’s a shame that we don’t get a lot of cool versions that other countries do (e.g. the 694 Skeet or the gazillion models of 725 that Browning sells in Europe), despite being such a massive market on our own. That being said, it might be slightly justified in this case; the number of people in the US who shoot Olympic trap is probably in the triple, if not double, digits.
That's a pity that I can't understand, we have the 694 Dtl flat rib and Dtl step rib, as well as the 694 trench fixed choke version stamped as trap. GL do like the reviews
No matter what other manufacturers make, Beretta will always be the biggest among shooters. It is the oldest and largest by far. The end of the video tells you why you should buy it, only of it feels good in your hands. Its a good thing to have many options. No monopoly.
Too expensive. They should have brought back the 682 and added features on that one. It is interesting to see that they did go back to the 680 platform. 690 hadd the triggergroup failure and the changed the design slightly on 694. The 680 design is in that meaning much stronger design. If they added interchangable recoil shoulders it would have be a new version of 682.
@chunk4572 i'd say depending on what country you are in- not a chance, over here you can get a Miroku mk10 competition sporter grade 3 for under half what the 688 is, a grade 4 yildiz pro for half, and in spec its the same, adjustable, palm swell, overbore barrels, thin wall chokes etc. The 688 is what the 686 sporter should be spec'd as, it's not a special gun- just has the hallmarks of a modern sporter, the 686 sporter is no better spec than a base model mk70, there is no getting arpund italy is one of the worst places for labour charge, add on the brand price of it saying beretta, they are not worth what they ask, none of the big names are, in mechanical advantage a 694 isn't 3 times for gun than a 686 etc

I think it would look even better with a TSK stock with the orange length of pull adjustment.
Coming soon
Agreed
This is next on my list.
It feels the same as my 682 gold E . You should compair it with that. I hope the make a 32 with an adjustable rib. I will be buying one for sure.
Love this gun.
Which would be a better gun to buy, the beretta 688 performance or browning ultra xs black laminate, can't decide between the two?

How much does the 30" barrel weigh? Just the barrel. Thanks!
Excellent video once again
Glad you enjoyed it
I think this is the new 682 gold e
Beretta’s website doesn’t say, but what steelium barrels does the 688 have?
Regular Steelium
When do you get around to the price ??

Do you have shoot it and if yes how is the trigger feeling compare to 692/694 ?
Only dryfired. Same as the 686 and 694.

How is the weight and dimensions of the 688 versus the original 682 (1980´s). And with the added width of the receiver, how does the TSK stock fit ?

Great video. Is and when wil this be available in the USA?
Thank you Tim.
They are available now. Limited quantities but available
The services rate that it needs 688 is similar to 686 or 692/694 ? Thank you

It is the dame as the 686 which is the same as the 692 and 694. However, you get more services out of the 680s
Thank you for the informations !!@@LetsTalkShotguns
Are you guys in the US being offered the trap (Olympic trench) version of this gun as in Australia?

Are these in stock at your Naples location?
Yes they are. Give us a call
Major question after watching this: why would a new but comitted sporting clays shooter pick this instead of a Rizzini BR-110?
No matter what other manufacturers make, Beretta will always be the biggest among shooters. It is the oldest and largest by far. The end of the video tells you why you should buy it, only of it feels good in your hands. Its a good thing to have many options. No monopoly.
Hi Pedro, will you guys be at the Southern Grand, thanks Morgan
Hi, we will not be attending the Southern Grand. The next shoot we will be going to is the JackLinks Cup
Do you have demo gun of this to shoot?
Not yet since it just came out
@@LetsTalkShotguns I heard you have them in stock now. Do you have a demo to shoot now?
Beretta 688 or Rizzini 240 Cole Special?
Persona choice, the Rizzini is heavier

B-fast?
Yes
Appreciate you noting the weight differences between the different actions.
Its a extremely important aspect of the gun
👍
Needs better wood.
Overpriced as all beretta guns are
Normally I would tend to agree, but I think this sits perfectly in the price range with other manufacturers.
