    Super nice set-up. I plan to get one of these at some point and would run it pretty similarly to how you have it set up. I'd just add a handle on the left with a wireless follow focus. I"m a solo shooter too - love working that way and spinning many plates. I just want the extra benefits of this camera to pair with my P4K.

    • @cinechimp
      @cinechimp  11 місяців тому +1

      oh benefits of the 12k over the pocket 4k are massive, not just in resolution but everything

    • @JonasStuart
      @JonasStuart 11 місяців тому +1

      @@cinechimp main things I'm looking for are the impressive HFR options, better DR, bigger sensor (perfect to pair with my Zeiss Milvus superspeeds) and that fantastic image. not looking forward to the massive file sizes. I'd probably work mainly in 8k (purely for oversampling)... What's the 4K footage like compared to say the P4K?

    • @cinechimp
      @cinechimp  11 місяців тому +2

      @@JonasStuart oh its night and day in terms resolution, rolling shutter performance in 8k and HFR. The sensors not that much bigger than the 4k .The DR is better, but for anyone worth their salt as a DP, they should be able to use both in a manner that will please a client. The files sizes in 8k aren't that bad when I compare them to my Canon cameras when shooting RAW - I mean Canon’s RAW is just stupid big. I think you’d have a lot of fun with an Ursa, but the release of the 6K FF pocket could foreshadow what BMD is going to release next in the URSA lineup, so it might pay to lock up your wallet for a while. But if you need one now, look for a good used one for a fair price. I wouldn't recommend buying a 12k now as I think another substantial price drop is coming ...

    • @JonasStuart
      @JonasStuart 11 місяців тому +1

      @@cinechimp I hope you're right on all of the above. I think BMD are behind on shipping new cameras and hopefully it's for a good reason. I want to see more in-house sensors as the 12k sensor was such a revolution - and they dropped it like it was easy. Surely if some of that tech trickles down into cheaper products they would be giant killers.
      For now, we're not in a position to upgrade so I'm doing a lot of musing and hoping that while I wait for the right time to buy, we see some nice new products coming in - somehwere between the UMP 12K and the 6KFF - both in terms of price, and capability. Hopefully what ever's next includes dual ISO though, after the P4K, I'd find that difficult in some situations with the 12k

    • @cinechimp
      @cinechimp  11 місяців тому +2

      @@JonasStuart Oh I totally agree with you mate. The 12k sensor is amazing. At first I was like who needs 12k, we have barely transitioned to 4k. But then I started using the camera and was totally blown away. I have used it extensively now and it still blows my mind how under rated the camera is. If BMD had just launched the first 3 cameras without so many issues, the brand and 12k in real professional circles would be viewed differently.
      The 12k sensor is phenomenal - but yes it does like the light.

    How are the signals coming out of that C-Box hdmi? I see that it’s only HD, but is it still a useable HD on modern monitors when this c-box dropped 9+ years ago? Thanks for putting together this video. It’s been really helpful in setting up my 12K. I’ve been on the hunt for one of these discontinued c-box’s but I sometimes wonder if it’s really worth it or if the HD signal it supplies still holds up.

    • @cinechimp
      @cinechimp  7 місяців тому +2

      Hey great question - its great and works perfectly for HDMI. You nailed the exact the point of the video, accessories are a better investment over time. That c-box has been used with countless cameras that have come and gone from my arsenal. Im sure Wooden camera has a newer version, if not someone should make one, but I still wouldn't update as mine still works perfectly.

    • @TheJ_G
      @TheJ_G 7 місяців тому +1

      @@cinechimpThanks so much for the response. Unfortunately, wooden camera hasn’t updated it to keep the HDMI’s included. The closet available is the 12K D-Box, but I really want to keep HDMI as an option. This older C-box is really the only option, but they can be incredibly difficult to find sometimes. So hang onto that one if you like it. Ha. There’s really nothing else like it right now that offers a similarly convenient hdmi conversion.

      Oh man what a bummer. Oh I didn’t know that, but know I do - will do sir. @mid49films Ryan is there any chance MID49 could make an updated version of the Wooden Camera C-box? Even I would like to get another one…???

    Sad that you missed out to make a statement that in some Cases even the Angelbild CF Cards with max. 480MB are not fast enough writing down the immense data rate of the 12K. For that reason I just only use an Samsung T7 Shield SSD with max. data rate of over 1000MB and this can handle almost all settings of the 12K. And of the best Accessoiries is the original URSA Viewfinder. It give you so much opportunities so that you dont need an external monitor. A good top handle is the most important while using the URSA.

    • @cinechimp
      @cinechimp  2 роки тому +3

      Hey there, I use the dual record function which is fine for all modes with my cards. Maybe my 1tb cards have a bigger buffer. I dont have any issues. Im pretty sure the "sustained write speed is 450MB/s" x 2 is a "sustained" write speed of 900MB/s all the way to the end of the cards. But I only need to do this is HF mode.
      From my experience the external drives, once they hit the buffer slow way down and start to drop frames like crazy. My Angelbird cards dont do that in dual card record mode.
      Granted you are correct in single card mode, literally every card on the market will drop frames, but I gather thats why BMD added the dual card record mode.
      I really hope BMD release a new version of the camera soon that uses CFexpress cards for higher frame rates, and a 16 Bit record mode.
      I own the EVF, but its not height adjustable, so I find its uncomfortable to use. The image quality is amazing - but I have never found it great for focus and I cant stand using focus peaking. So currently the external monitor is a better option for the way most people shoot and its cheaper than the EVF, which also offers no signal loop out. But hey man, each to their own.

    • @cinechimp
      @cinechimp  8 місяців тому +2

      No not at all mate. As you may know, the monitor on the side of the Ursa mini cameras doesn't fully rotate around, its range of movement is quite limited. Its also small and not great in terms of image quality. The pocket camera screens are far better quality. Another important thing to consider is that the 12k resolution means you require a lager monitor to really see critical focus.
