      A ninja in today's world would want to watch something that really bleeds color in orange light though. Even though they should stick to high ground when possible, I find it almost inevitable that they will be on street level eventually, and orange street lights are known for leeching the color out of certain fabrics.

      Maybe it's kind of a Batman or TF Spy scenario, where it's more about the techniques and their application. You gotta admit, the MGS saga and its gameplay mechanics draw heavily from historical ninja techniques (disguises, infiltration, tricking the enemy, unorthodox techniques, stuff like that)

    Watching this series just trips me out some times because I occasionally find myself using some of these techniques without even knowing about it.
    Like when at 4:56 "ninja feet" were mentioned and when I heard how they did it I realized that I've been using that same technique to walk around places without making a sound. And I didn't even know that it had anything to do with ninja.
    Then there was a time when some of my friends and I were playing hide and seek at night on campus. I was the only one to climb up in the tree to hide while every one hid on the ground. And no one figured out where I was, even though I was wearing sorta noticeable clothing. Then when I heard about the Tanuki Gakure no Jutsu, I was amazed that I've been using real ninja techniques without even knowing it.

    • @ShinKyuubi
      @ShinKyuubi 6 років тому +9

      Sometimes it's just luck or instinct to do such things. I'm a rather heavyset guy but I would constantly scare my classmates or family on accident because despite my weight I can move rather silently and quickly when I'm not even trying. This was before and after I took a heavy interest in ninja but before any really good books like Antony Cummins' books about them were available so it was just something I did and still do naturally.

  • @karfsma778
    @karfsma778 6 років тому +18

    • @shadowsketch926
      @shadowsketch926 5 років тому +1

      to be fair, this show is about validating ninja's, and it's not a point off just for double jump, it's a few small pointers double jump included, i mean, he could have taken a point off because the messenger is just fighting his way through hordes, which a real ninja would always try to not do.
      they could have made it so the grappling hook allows for a swing after a jump instead of a double jump, to make it feel more ninja like, but it's such an ingrained platformer trope that everyone just expects it nowadays

    Hooray for (mostly) historically accurate ninja in an Indie game! The Messenger certainly looked like an interesting choice for the Nindies at Night back in June/July, and I recognized a lot of previous concepts and items covered in previous episodes, specifically the Amigasa hat and medicine pouch from the Shinobi no Rokubu, the human sized kites, plated chainmail armor (used for strength/agility training; looks like Rock Lee had some reason behind those leg weights after all) and of course "real ninja wear blue!".

    • @ShinKyuubi
      @ShinKyuubi 6 років тому +1

      I played the game a little on the Japanese setting and Gaijin bringing up the kite festival is rather accurate as the kanji they gave the wing suit in Japanese is 凧布 which (pardon me for using google translate for this) comes out as "Kite Cloth" so he got that one without even knowing it it seems.

    • @AnaxErik4ever

    I really love these videos. Ninja and unconventional warfare throughout history has become a big interest to me. Something I find fascinating is that a lot of people call SOF units like the Navy SEALs modern day ninja, and they're not necessarily wrong but not in the way they think. SOF units do a lot more than kick in doors and take out their targets. They do a lot of reconnaissance, finding out what certain groups or people do, find out their routines, gather information/intel, and a lot of other stuff that ninja did. Fascinating subject!
    I'm also still waiting for an episode on Scorpion from Mortal Kombat!

    May I suggest looking into _Mega Man 11_ , specifically the companies listed as making the robot masters. For example, Torch Man was made by “Tsubakuro Precision Machining”. In Japanese, the _tsuba_ is the name of a sword hilt, while _kuro_ means black. So the company is named “Black sword hilt”. Appropriate for a Robot Master that fancies himself a warrior.

    You can potentially “run on lava”, photographers have stood on platforms the place in the lava then run off usually with melted shoes, because of the density of lava you wouldn’t actually sink into it quickly but rather slowly melt as long as you can stand

  • @Tedris4
    @Tedris4 6 років тому

    Providing you have a material that both won't burst into flames and is non-conductive enough to not transfer heat to your feet, you could feasibly run on lava without much feet-largening. Lava is incredibly dense (I mean, IS is melted rock), so much so that people actually float on top of lava when they fall in rather than sink like all the movies.

I had so much fun with that game even though I didn't know any of the controls other than the attack and run buttons. It's not your traditional "beat'em up" or VS game. All it takes to win is one good strike. And you can even put your opponent at a disadvantage by injuring them, from hitting their arm so they can't use it, or even their legs to where they can't stand. And for some reason, one of the weapons you can select is a sledgehammer. Yes, I always picked that one.

    Ah yes very ninja-like for the messenger to run into a fight without any sort of stealth involved, ever.

    the double jump for genji could make sense if they put an actual animation for it, all that tech? he could have a silent booster that lets him double jump,but the only other characters that have double jumps that can be explained is dante and bayonetta due to them being magic users

    I am gonna look into Rioichi Cooper from the Sly Cooper series. also the reason for the double jump is because of gameplay.

  • @lunarshadow5584
    @lunarshadow5584 6 років тому

    I keep thinking about the double jump and I think it is more like they jump off of a surface fast enough to make it seem like they were double jumping. For instance, the slicing before making a second jump could just be that he is using the enemy he just killed as a spring pad. Also likely the wall behind him but it can't be used more than once because people usually push themselves outwards when using a foot against the wall. So just like most Ninja myths that were blown out of proportion, it was an Illusionary technique that made them seem super human.

    to be fair, the double jump is a common video game trope, and if it makes any sense at all it's with the ninja

    I'd love an open world Ninja game where you take on contracts or orders from your lord to sabotage, assassinate, or gather Intel from your enemy. You aren't going around killing randos by the bucketload, you have to be stealthy, use real Ninja tools and techniques. Know what I mean?

    On the Cloud Step issue. Aside from game mechanic convenience, it's a common power found in Chinese cultivation fiction. In many anime/games it one of the most often appropriated. Dragon Ball even introduced it with that exact name as the precursor to the flight in DBZ by one of the most Chinese influenced characters, Tien.

    Technically, you would stand on the lava due to its high density, you just wouldn't be standing for very long, considering your clothes would immediately catch fire, your feet would begin blistering away, and as you breathed your respiratory system would almost evaporate, among other just oh so fun things.

    Maybe, and this is just video idea, you can cover Koga, the shinobi from Paladins, like you made video about Genji. I play a lot with him and I applied strategies you mentioned in Genji vid and my gameplay improved so much. Keep the good work😊👌

    I don't walk like that, but my mom would say I have Ninja Feet since she never hears me coming. I've lost count of how many times I've startled her just by walking to the kitchen. I actually tend to walk by placing my toes first and then rolling to the rest of my foot.

    Hey I have been thinking, while sly cooper is never officially called a ninja I think he’s a better shinobi then lot of other “ninjas” right. He can’t just fight and must only do so if absolutely necessary. He scouts missions out before hand, which in your how to genji video you said they did. And his cane is just like a ninja weapon. A common item used sometimes for fighting but mostly for moving around. And while there is no direct ninja counterpart it would work similarly to the Kusarigama in concept. On a smaller note his family is the cooper clan much like the koga. As well as his ninja ancestor. I thought it might be worth a which ninja episode

    I suggest Black Star from Soul Eater.
    Ok, he is obnoxiously loud, and he ones of his weapons is that overcompensating shuriken but his other weapons seems reasonable. He has a Kusarigama (though both ends are sickles), smoke bomb, Bushin no Jutsu and the correct size for a ninja sword (until he got the demon sword). Also, something new that can be discussed is hand to hand combat and his rules of assassination.
