It doesn't get much better than a long, thin weapon that you can quickly stab your opponent with from outside their range. So, I wouldn't say that's a problem unique to DS2 lol.

I can confirm everything Saint said in the first portion of this video is *not* exaggerated even a little. Saint, do you remember near the end of last year when I livestreamed Ds3 for a week (the "Week of Sorrow") and then switched to Bloodborne for the last hour or so on the final day? I remember someone invading me in the Hunter's Nightmare (first area) and giving my BoM+Flamesprayer character quite possibly the greatest Bloodborne PvP fight I've ever had, despite me winding up getting rocked in the end. I didn't find out until later that this was you who invaded, but it made sense right away when I thought back to that fight. No ordinary "beat the game and move on" player would ever even _move around_ in a battle the way you do, or the way Ghost or Question would. Then, in the same day, I try checking the Frontier for activity with the same character, and the only player I'm able to find is some dude hanging out right at the start of the stage, camping there (refusing to play the level), wearing Kos Parasite and doing nothing but spamming quickstepR1 until he won. Chat and I were both disgusted as we watched him robotically do the honorable bow gesture afterward both times. I feel those moments were a perfect example of what you're talking about here, about the PvP being absolute balls-to-the-wall incredible when you meet a player putting forward the same love and energy that you're putting, but awful and un-fun if not. I really regret not saving our fight, too (the whole week was stressful for me and at the time I just wanted it to fade away so I'd never be reminded of that stress, but I regret it now if not solely because of our short epic moment). As for these invasions in this video, those were legit some of the *SICKEST* attack sequences I may have ever seen, and I about _screamed_ when Draco started using Delayed Molotovs and they actually worked! I've ALWAYS been wanting to see someone pull that. I honestly hope this game stays active forever. It took time, but I love the direction the BB PvP community ended up. You guys are warriors, survivors, inspirations.

The parasite guy literally could've been me. You wouldn't believe the amount of hate mail I got for playing it, seeing as that quickstep R1 hits for nearly 600 if you got the rights gems. However, I also incorporate the Executioner's Gloves, Cursed Brew and Blacksky Eye in my play style. If you ever sent the parasite guy some whiny hate mail and got Rosmarinus + bone marrow ash as your answer, it most probably was me ;)
The only times I send hatemail are when both of these conditions apply: A) it's Dark Souls 3 (the only Souls game I can confidently claim any sort of expertise on, since I've been away from the Ds2 scene for so long), and B) I win the fight, rather than losing, because only Might Makes Right. I was livestreaming at the time and if I remember correctly my comments to my viewers amounted to something like "man that would be laughable if it weren't so disappointing". So if that was the sort of reaction you were hoping for, I'll gladly take that Rosmarius and Ash now, thank you. If you had been a Ds3 opponent and you played like scum but I managed to beat you, you might have gotten a PM from me saying something like "you are a disgrace to anyone that calls themselves an invader" with a picture of a SchwaAkari Point Down. That's the only time hatemail is allowed to be sent by me. I don't make the rules man, this is just the way the world works!

I don't know what I'm doing but I loved Dark Souls so I'm looking forward to this and glad they fixed that issue.
My first pvp experience in bloodborne was a guy appearing out of nowhere only to use some ability to one shot kill me and my friend. After that i mostly avoided pvp altogether. I think i will stay with ds 3 pvp x D
@The Ancestor ds3 has stricter matchmaking rules than bloodborne, which avoids scenarios like the OP described. It doesn't make the pvp "better" exactly, but it does keep the odds even.
@The Ancestor By even odds I mean that an invader cant come in with blatantly powerful +10 weapons to effortlessly kill a lower level. Glass cannon builds in ds3 are usually niche mages that will go down in a swing or two because they have to sacrifice something for their damage output and stay within summoning SL range. They're hardly as unstoppable even when up against a decent pve player. Newer players who neglect prioritizing 50 vigor asap is more prevalent than you'd think. If a slow weapon won't fool them, then a faster weapon that kills in two hits surely will. You're right that this can be avoided with enough experience, but the experience bar is higher to reach in BB than in ds3. I agree that it's a huge (HUGE) waste to neglect bloodborne pvp for this, but I dont think the ds3 pvp loopholes you listed are as unforgivable as bloodborne's, at least from a newcomers point of view.
The Ancestor I loved the DS3 pvp because at the time that I played it, everyone used different builds and weapons. Everyone would meet up for fight clubs and would show up with pyromancy builds, magic builds, dual wielding great swords, using only one shield and nothing else, whip, fists only, etc. I used a mage build that also made use of a unqiue sword that was powered by the magic stat (I forgot what it’s called in the game it’s been so long) and it felt so unique because I never saw anyone else use it. Also in most of the fight clubs we would gank in anyone who showed up with a scummy attack spam build lmaooo. The invasions were also great because I had so many ways to deal with the invaders, I usually liked to transform myself Into an object from the area and then just wait for the gankers to walk by and I would unleash my stupid powerful spells on them.
I never had a PS4 so I never got a chance to try Bloodborne so this is a really great summary of all the problems that got in the way of what looks like it could've been a really sick PVP experience. Also, I just watched your DS3 invasion video where you talked about the Lucerne and after trying it out it's now it's my favorite invasion weapon, so thanks for that
It’s genuinely going to be the biggest fucking surprise if Sony pulls the pineapple outta their ass and does something “for the players” for once. Watch them just try and shill as much fucking cash as possible out of the PS5 by not including any backward compatibility, and on top they’ll just install a PS4 disc drive into the body so you can buy ps4 games to play on it You’ll still be getting shit on if you wanna play old games
For me, Bloodborne pvp is still the most fun so I'm still sticking to it even in 2019. When I get that one perfect 3v1 with minimal bullshit, it's just amazing. I stopped imagining "what ifs" and "they could have done x to fix x" thinking, nowadays I just play and forget the rest, you know? I just love the gameplay so much that I had to keep at it. So in a way, I'm a lore friendly player: just another blood drunk hunter looking for a fight. Gems were still a mistake though, fuck that shit. Good stuff, saint. Glad to see some more BB stuff.
I’m a blood borne fanatic and I quit after a while of playing other games but this video really makes me want to visit bloodborne. Subbed and liked broski keep em up
Great video as always, saint. Nitty gritty question: at 8:30 you’re using empty phantasm shell, which I thought kind of sucked? What gems did you put in that saw cleaver?
Nothing good. I made this character to do random invasions and kind of show off that you don't need really good gems against AVERAGE players. Probably some 15% gems in the cleaver, farmed from the DLC hunters. But buffs add flat amount of damage. While they might be lackluster at higher levels, that same boost to AR pays off at lower levels.
For anyone thinking about it, i got invasions maybe 5-10 min apart last week. Nightmare frontier, tomb of oedon. Didn’t even try dlc, guarantee they’re there too.
I always thought bloodborne pvp was a joke based on what people have said since I had never participated myself, but this video has truly given me a deep appreciation for what could've been if it got popular thank you Saint this is a great video.
Since your last Halloween sinister run I have been invading in blood borne about 1 day a week about 5-30 invasions depending on how i feel that day, so thanks saint it has been fun also dash catching with the Ludwig is ridiculously good
Been invading in the fishing hamlet for a bit now and its safe to say hosts with overleveled phantoms are quite litteraly brain dead; They all follow the same format, let the phantom fight while you sit in the back not doing anything useful, run back to the lamp if the phantom dies, never attack only parry and dissconnect/stand still if parrying doesn't work. If i had a way to make them move from the "bonfire" I would but at lvl 80 I haven't invested in bloodtinge or arcane, probably gonna make a new build some time soon. Also seems like allot of people summon for help with the two fish giants, and won't run through the level once they kill them.
Start memorizing where they show up, most hosts summon either right at the beginning or in the lighthouse. Optimize your builds to ambush them at choke points.
Can someone help me with something? Why should anyone put a cursed gem on a weapon? Like I get so many of them but they make me weaker why should I even use them?
Was doing some PVP just today because I love this game and I always think about how amazing it is and come back. With that said I agree with everything you said in this video
This was good sh*t, saint. Bloodborne PvP, when the matchmaking is working, is so, so good. Also.... BB was 2015?!?!? DS3 2016. JFC. New Game WHEN?! New Game PLEEEEEEAAAAAASE!!!!!
Cathedral Ward is a weird ass place to look for invasions. You cant summon or be invaded till you open the gate on the graveyard plaza and if you already did, the boss is just a quick run ahead and the level is almost done
Watching this had seriously provided good insight into the game's PvP mechanics, and has really convinced me to try to make a BL43 and BL80 chars for Bloodborne.
The thing about breaking the AI, it just feels. Harder for me, when they're constantly on my ass, it's easier for me to follow their pattern. That random, pause, and switching has me thrown offset. Due to sometimes the agro is random. But then again, difficulty is subjective to the person. So I understand what you're saying.
@@saintriot Dear lord don't remind me, Midir and Kos on co-op were the worst choices of my life. I can't handle them with a bud by my side. Well, now that I've seen this vid though, I'll get back into bb. I enjoyed the, and it made me want to return.
I’m One of those people who plays offline. Bloodborne is my favorite game, and I play it almost everyday (pve) and speedrun it. Never Pvp much in any souls games.
Great video Saint! just a side note: The no heal mindset of DS1 was conceived through duels. But that's why even before the dlc DS1 had "designated areas" of pvp. People who were invading the burg were expecting duels, the people who were invading the Forest were expecting 3v1s or 3v2s. The no heal stuff was mostly something that came from organized duels more so than invasions, then again; since DS1 has no health penalty over invaders there was not much of a problem to have a duel with a host who is in the same level as you (regarding health options). The people who remain in DSR, at least, are invaders looking for those 3v2s, 3v1s(in fact, it's seen with bad eyes to bring duel builds to Township or the forest, but instead of "go to the arena" people usually say "go to the burg" lol ). Mostly the duelist crowd remained in PC ptde.
I had always suspected it, but after watching this gameplay, I'm certain that I have never played Bloodborne properly. There are so many tools and weapons I had access to, but I can count all the ones I actually used across my 5+ play-throughs on one hand.
Remembering to use consumables is actually something that takes consistent practice. A lot of Dark Souls 3 players are the same way honestly. Though, Bloodborne does make this a bit harder thanks to not auto-replenishing things like Molotovs from the storage box after every death. Having to revisit the Dream to get another full stack of 10 every time they're out is a little irritating, though also a rustic, charming relic of the game's time period in Souls history I suppose.
Most of the reasons why you mentioned why bb pvp is great is how I feel about ds3s pvp, but I do agree in souls it can really feel like it's more build v build, and when that happens tactics do get thrown out the window. But when 2 efficient builds go against eachother, it can add a whole new element that makes the fight really rewarding.
I wished that you could be summoned or invade from the Hunter's Dream in the same way you can be summoned or invade for Chalice Dungeons. Why did they not do this?
... because the hunters dream doesnt have any where to progress? in a way, it does exist. trigger the gerhnam boss, mark out and then you can summon. only coop summon. if you wanna pvp, use the vileblood and summon a vileblood hunter (or the other way around), they auto pvp if summoned for coop (me and a friend learned that the hard way). now you can pvp in the hunters dream
Bro this video make my memory back , i play all the souls game and right now im playing demon souls on ps5, but i never felt in love like blood borne did , however im in high level and Ng+7 i cant find people to play with ,so what i do about it ?
BB PvP is a hidden gem that got slept on by the larger souls community. Consider asking around for active discords with players willing to give you a good stream of fights or invasions. 👍
@@dangitjm Yes, sadly the online activity outside planned pvp is very empty, with the only exceptions being the chalice dungeon arena and 2nd-3rd floor Mergo Spooky Mansion. This lack of activity discourage new players who have no idea about when/where to pvp or try invasions, expecially when they met gank zones (nightmare frontier - forest areas). A simple summoning sign mechanic would have preserved the player count for a very long time. Along with a free vials/bullets refill when invading, because you need to spend time farming for them, or might stand in extreme disadvantage in a long fight. Anyway, lets hope that the next soulsborne will have better online elements (blessed may be ds2 covenant system, curses upon soul memory), because they're the only thing which prevents those games from falling down after all this time.
I think in Dark Souls you have to use humanity to reverse hollowing. And you cant co-op without doing that. So its invasions pertain to coop too. I think at least. However you are totally right about everything else. Bloodborne is my favorite in general. P.S. Your content is always great. Deserves more views and recognition.

Haven’t completed this. Might download it again sometime but that’s unlikely. I got up to the one reborn and died losing a bunch of echoes when it wouldn’t let me tele out using the bold hunters mark. deleted the game when I realised I had no vials in storage. cba for the grind. you guys that can just sit there repeating the same levels all day are another breed.
I think Midir was an excellent attempt at making co op's usual advantages disappear, since you WANT Midir to behave as predictably and focused as possible
I will get killed for this comment. But fights are way more satisfying in bloodborne than ds3 (if it works correctly). To me just an opinion. Trying to see if this is popular opinion though.

Based on your reply, formatted and lengthy like a Penthouse Letters Erotic Encounter Experience anon letter. Sounds like you had a almost real life social experience. And one to remember, at that. Firsts are always speeeshul.
Just like you to know that i was asking about your whereabouts on Chase the bros' live stream about a week ago.love your content and hope you are successful in your endeavors.
I used to fight the parasite with the cane, you just need to know it.
I don't make the rules man, this is just the way the world works!
i was Devout Phrenesis and if you were wondering how i died around 21:54 i missed a plunging attack and ate a counter hit from a transformed Bloodletter. RIP. Bloodborne is the best pvp, end of story. Great video Saint!

My first playthrough of bloodborne was last october
What an incredible game to play for October
Bloodborne is my first Souls-type game, and I just started it this week. I'm addicted, and after this video I can't wait to finish a build and do a PvP stream.
Super entertaining vid, man. You earned a sub.
Up until this point I was 100% convinced that Bloodborne didn't even have multiplayer, save from NPCs you could summon to assist you.
Feels like 2015 all over again
13:21 Dude's been fighting for almost five minutes straight, then gets tired of the Mace bs and switches to Ludwig's blade. Opponent proceeds to commit suicide.
The narrated fight at around 15:23 was almost poetry.
Edit: Just your narration in general is superb.
If they ever make a bloodborne 2 first on the list of things to do should be changing how lanterns work my God is it annoying to have to warp to replenish health
You put a lot of passion in this video. It's amazing!! I'm a huge Bloodborne fan and it's great to see that people still care about it as well.
I appreciate you saint.
I'm a souls boi and I finally got a chance to get a PS4 and play bloodborne for the first time last week and holy shit. Now I see what you've been saying for a long time. The game design and fighting mechanics in this game feel so good. It's definitely different from souls 1-3. But it's amazing and beautiful in its own way.
Thanks for being you and shit man
around 10 minutes when you're just chasing down the beckoner and taunting him with the tonitrus. absolute gold.
"Dark Souls 2 was balanced" I'm sorry I can't hear you over the sound of r1 Estoc spam
Or the crystal buff on the blue moon sword "yikes"
Something something “60 agility”
Moreso balanced than Bloodborne :^)
DS2 is by far the most balanced Soulsborne game, it's not even slightly close either
Ds 2 had the BEST online exp of all the souls games...Maybe the short sucked but the devs did a good job with that
This was my first Fromsoftgame and it is to this day the best of them all.

Ah 2015 Bloodbourne. We were born by the loading screen, made men by the loading screen, and finally undone by the loading screen. I just started playing again after not playing since launch since I just heard they actually fixed the loading issue in a patch and I never played it much due to the damn loading. I don't know what I'm doing but I loved Dark Souls so I'm looking forward to this and glad they fixed that issue.
How are you doing now
Underrated lol
Some incredible fights. I don't often make it to the streams so i'm really glad to see some of these here
My first pvp experience in bloodborne was a guy appearing out of nowhere only to use some ability to one shot kill me and my friend.
Im still playing bloodborne in 2021. I ring it at the nightmare of menis. I usually get connected in like 3 mins but sometimes it disconnects.
Same, wanna go for some playing sometimes?
I never had a PS4 so I never got a chance to try Bloodborne so this is a really great summary of all the problems that got in the way of what looks like it could've been a really sick PVP experience.
Also, I just watched your DS3 invasion video where you talked about the Lucerne and after trying it out it's now it's my favorite invasion weapon, so thanks for that
Lucy
Man, watching the fights and listening to you talk about this game's pvp is just thirst quenching, what a word 🤣🤣🤣
I love it
Pls PS5 backwards compatibility be REAL
All the rumors say it is but we'll see.
@@saintriot I feel like they'll do BC with PS4 titles but why would they give up reselling old titles?
It’s genuinely going to be the biggest fucking surprise if Sony pulls the pineapple outta their ass and does something “for the players” for once.
Watch them just try and shill as much fucking cash as possible out of the PS5 by not including any backward compatibility, and on top they’ll just install a PS4 disc drive into the body so you can buy ps4 games to play on it
You’ll still be getting shit on if you wanna play old games
Sure, getting invaded early game by someone with high level dlc weapons or blood gems is just so beautiful

I didn't knew pvp was this much alive, I always invade my brother so that we can find someone relatively quick
True. I can; with some waiting; always find someone to invade even at BL 193.
>Bloodborne was 4 years ago
:(
For anyone thinking about it, i got invasions maybe 5-10 min apart last week. Nightmare frontier, tomb of oedon. Didn’t even try dlc, guarantee they’re there too.
They should release this on steam, they could make alot more money and revive the multiplayer and intrest in the game.
Sony contract
I always thought bloodborne pvp was a joke based on what people have said since I had never participated myself, but this video has truly given me a deep appreciation for what could've been if it got popular thank you Saint this is a great video.

@ripples L DS3 for weapons, for overall pvp balance, ds2
ds2 is actually one of the most balanced games in the series, lmao. SoTFS, of course
This encouraged me to come back to the game, thanks for this video man. I really miss Bloodborne.
What's the best BL for pvp now?
43 for low level. 60-70ish for end game. Meta duels at 98 and 120.
BL80 for a lot of frontier actions
Since your last Halloween sinister run I have been invading in blood borne about 1 day a week about 5-30 invasions depending on how i feel that day, so thanks saint it has been fun also dash catching with the Ludwig is ridiculously good
Imagine waiting 30 mins in between invasions
Or having to wait for streamers to play so you can have fun
bloodborne is one of my all time favorites! I still play it as much asni can. love the vid please keep it up!
No stats necessary for poison knives! Monocular can help you aim from farther distances.
@@saintriot Good idea, i'll give it a shot in my next invasions, hopefully they don't have any antidotes on hand at the time.
Start memorizing where they show up, most hosts summon either right at the beginning or in the lighthouse. Optimize your builds to ambush them at choke points.
Can someone help me with something? Why should anyone put a cursed gem on a weapon? Like I get so many of them but they make me weaker why should I even use them?
everyone put your psn so we can play together

3 years later and this is basically Elden rings PvP with no guns
Oh my God Bloodborne yes! I love it! Instant like
Cathedral Ward is a weird ass place to look for invasions.

There are definitely bosses that are harder with co-op. Midir in DS3 is a great example and exhibits all the traits you mentioned.
@@saintriot Dear lord don't remind me, Midir and Kos on co-op were the worst choices of my life. I can't handle them with a bud by my side. Well, now that I've seen this vid though, I'll get back into bb. I enjoyed the, and it made me want to return.
I salute your dedication to these glorious games, Saint
I’m One of those people who plays offline. Bloodborne is my favorite game, and I play it almost everyday (pve) and speedrun it. Never Pvp much in any souls games.
I hate pvp man, ESPECIALLY invasions
Still waiting for the 60fps
Why did they not do this?
... because the hunters dream doesnt have any where to progress?
in a way, it does exist. trigger the gerhnam boss, mark out and then you can summon. only coop summon. if you wanna pvp, use the vileblood and summon a vileblood hunter (or the other way around), they auto pvp if summoned for coop (me and a friend learned that the hard way). now you can pvp in the hunters dream

i never played Bloodborne pvp but it looks so awesome! goddamn... a masterpiece
bb pvp is pretty bad actually :/
Wow ure blind
Its alright, when it goes at a medium pace. Its more satisfying than Dark souls at times honestly
